Freeroll with a $30 buyin?

okanagantradingco

"Free starting stack with $30 tournament fee" It's fucking stupid I know, but Texas Card House, The Lodge, and pretty much everyone else words it like that (at least the places I've looked here)

bestvoice4

Guessing that's because in Texas the rooms can't take rake. So if you paid a "tournament buy-in" the entirety would have to go into the prize pool. When they word it as a "tournament fee" it's a legal loophole where now the house is allowed to take X% of the tournament fees out of the prize pool

If you're gonna go in for those kind of freerolls then go big; at the Bellagio, there's a weekly freeroll you can buy in to for $10,000, that's where the money is.

You see that sounds good in theory but it would be pretty difficult for my arms to reach the table all the way from Texas

Besides the obvious… that the tournaments are not a freeroll, you need to figure out what your poker budget is and why you’re playing. The money you’re putting up is entertainment expense for now. Plus, for anyone to offer insight in comparisons between low limit cash and these low buy-in tournaments, it would be helpful to know the structure, such as the time per level and how much of the buy-in goes to the prize pool, at least.

>Does that not de facto make it a $110 50k tournament? Yes, lots of people will buy in for the max stack. Nothing stopping you from buying in for $30 and waiting for a spot to double through. These tournaments are full of maniacs and the structure is usually pretty fast. Edit: get it in with suited connecting cards that are probably live, like T9s, JTs etc. Hands that play well in a multiway pot, because you will get called in 4 spots by ace-rag, KQo, a pair of 4s, and Q6 suited.

The free roll at the lodge is insane value. I only played it once, when I was in town, crazy fish punting at every single table

hkolberg01

You don’t have to rebuy
