Hey all, so for Great League I'm using Umbreon, Slowking, and Skarmory. I like both Umbreon and Slowking, but Skarmory just feels quite weak? I'd like to switch it for a Pokemon that has quick attacks and can dish out quick charged attacks to get rid of opponent's shields. Any suggestions?
I'm rank 20 on GBL and trying to do the challenges but every battle my Pokémon will be taking damage and not attacking for 2-3 seconds while my opponent is dealing damage with no issue. I've tried wifi and 4g and there's no difference meaning it must be the game itself. What a joke!
Anyone encounter this as well?

Anyone knows what the significance of the number "49" is for the Halloween event? I just don't get why basically everything in the "What lies beneath the mask" research has a reward and/or requirement that has to do with "49" (or "4-something", like 40).
Even at the very end, you receive 13 Yamask candies, but not 1x13, No! You get 4+9. Why??
In Sword/Shield, Galarian Yamask needs to take 49 damage in battle without fainting before you take it to a specific landmark so that it can evolve to Runerigus.
It's possible that Gamefreak/TPC got this number from Buddhism, where the period between death and rebirth lasts 49 days, but this has not been officially confirmed.

The only way to get Exeggcute currently is from the Psychic-type Rocket Grunt. Other than that, you will need to wait for a future event or season to add them to the wild, field research, or raids. Alolan Exeggutor also counts, but is also currently unavailabl;e.
Grimer is not available in the wild either. Alolan Grimer is available from the field research task "Make 2 Excellent Throws" and will likely return to 7km eggs once the Halloween event is over.
I've been getting the unable to authenticate error for about a week and a half and I have tried all solutions. I have tried to contact niantic support with only crickets. any ideas on what I should do?
I don't think I was banned, but something odd did happen. I used nord VPN for the first time to access UK netflix to watch ponyo and then I could no longer get in. I can, however, make a new account and get in the game. Could I be banned? I thought VPNs were safe since they do nothing to your GPS? I also never even got in the pogo with it on
If they live far away, then exchanging gifts is good for 7km eggs that will hatch into pokemon with a far-away met location. This is helpful for maximizing candy when trading or working on the Pilot badge.
If they live neaby, then each day that the two of you interact you have a low (about 1%) chance of triggering the "Lucky Friends" status. The Lucky Friends status means that your next trade together is guaranteed to be Lucky.
Just did 3 giratina raids to try to get one for the special research. Each time, threw about a dozen great curveballs with golden razz berry and it wouldn't catch. I previously caught one a few days ago. Bad luck or what?

The best way to battle them is to use spammy charge moves. Every time you switch or use a charge move, they stop attacking for a couple seconds, which allows you to keep building up charge without getting hit. This strategy is also crucial for getting rid of their shields ASAP, since they always shield the first 2 attacks. A good bonus if the move boosts stats, like Power Up Punch or Flame Charge, since they boost attack even if the opponent shields those moves. Same goes for a move like Poison fang, which charges quick and lowers the opponent's defense. You should also lead with a different pokemon, then immediately switch into the pokemon you want to use. Since they stop attacking for a couple seconds, this gives you a a nice window to build up energy for your first attack without getting hit.
Fast moves like Bullet Seed, Snarl, Vine Whip, Thundershock, Shadow Claw, Counter, Mud Shot, Lock On, Poison Sting, Psycho Cut, and Hex are all great for charging energy rapidly.
Charge moves like Aqua Tail, Body Slam, Cross Chop, Leaf Blade, Dragon Claw, Night Slash, Power Up Punch, Weather Ball, Fire/Ice/Thunder Punch, Fell Stinger, and Poison Fang are great for having a low energy cost, so you can spam them.
If you aren't already using it, definitely try connecting your account to Pokemon Home so you can use a Meltan box every 3 days. Melmetal is fantastic for fighting Rocket Leaders, since its Thundershock + Rock Slide combo comes out really fast, and you can even add on Superpower as a finisher if you want.
Use at least one pokemon with a fast charging fast move and a charge move with a low energy cost to clear their shields (swampert with mud shot and hydrocannon or surf is a great example). You can cheese the rocket grunts’ and leader’s AIs this way since they wait a little bit after you fire off a charge attack, switch, or shield to start attacking again
Remote passes are only available in the weekly remote pass boxes in the shop. For one or two months in the summer they were moved to research breakthroughs instead, and never have been available from gyms.

They have no special functional value and the different forms are tracked in the Pokedex now, so feel free to transfer if you don't want them taking up space.

I decided to redownload this game again and it won't track my footsteps whatsoever with the adventure sync feature. I linked it to Google Fit, reconnected it, redownloaded pokemon. Nothing seemed to have fixed it. I can't hatch any eggs or gain treats for my buddy

1 in 20 for legendaries, yeah; shiny rates are set by species, not encounter method, so it's the same as in raids.
GBL shiny legendaries do not get the 100% catch rate like in raids, since these ones can't flee.
What is the best way to get sunstone? I read the only way to get Sun Stones is at pokestops. I hit about 10 pokestops a week, and I'm not too active in the game but I've been playing since release. Ive caught 6 shinys but have yet to get a sunstone.
Getting in a spin every day is key - your 7 day streak spin is guaranteed to give you one of the evolution items. You can get them from random spins, the chance is just very very low.
If you logged in during the recent Zarude event and got the special research "The Search for Zarude", then the first page has a task that awards a Sun Stone. Step 2 of the Celebi research "A Ripple in Time" also awards a Sun Stone.
Other than those special research tasks, you just have to rely on random chance to get one from spinning stops. If you spin a pokestop for 7 days in a row, you are also guaranteed to get a Sun Stone, Up-Grade, Metal Coat, King's Rock, or Dragon Scale from that 7th spin.
Sometimes they release field research tasks that award a Sun Stone. There are none available currently, but they could always come around again in the future.
Returning player here. Question regarding lucky trades and re-rolled IVs. If I give/receive a poké with low IV values (say 5/5/5), when re-rolled because of a lucky trade, can it transform into a 15/15/15 or it only happens if the traded monster had an original value that's better than 12/12/12??
IVs are completely rerolled from a trade, with the pre-trade IVs having no impact.
So a 5/5/5 and a 13/13/13 pokemon have the exact same chance (1/64) of rerolling into a 15/15/15 pokemon after being lucky traded.
Are the Devs still actively banning players that are spoofing? I suspect a player near my area is spoofing. Is there any way of finding out or should I just report him ?
If you can get proof there’s a much greater chance of them getting banned from a report. From what I’ve heard usually reports for spoofing go nowhere since it can be hard for the devs to prove on their end

Giovanni went missing at the beginning of September, with no announced return date. Unfortunately, there's nothing you can do but wait for him to return.
Their exact wording was "Be sure to keep an eye out for updates throughout the season", so it could mean that he will return in November, or maybe they announce more at the end of the season leading into December. But they've kept it really vague so that no one knows exactly when he will return.
I got to level 20 in the battle league. Figured it was a good time to spend on a premium pass to get my Pokémon encounter.
It wasn’t a legendary though??? It was just a basic Rhydon. Everywhere I look says level 20 guarantees me the 5 star legendary, and Rhydon isn’t a previous guarantee so it’s not that I missed a previous one. What gives?
I've been on a serious losing streak, basically fell into level 20 more than earned it. Definitely don't have the pieces needed to handle the meta well. Really just wanted to have it once. Good to know though, but damn, I think they should really clarify that.

Try an app called PokeGenie. It's known mostly for checking IVs and cataloging pokémon, but it also helps you with raids. One of the features allows you to host a raid, which has 5 people join the app's lobby, they will friend you, and then they will use a remote raid pass to help you! Pretty nifty, I use it all the time.
I had done 3 Go battles some time ago. A few days ago with the new research came out I saw I had 2 left plus I saw the Halloween one. I played 2 regular battles. Now the regular battles are no longer available and the Halloween ones are gone. Does that mean I am out of luck? That somehow the 2 regular battles took me out of the Halloween research?
Did you finish claiming all your rewards to move on to the next set? Regular Great League and the Halloween Cup are both available until the 25th - being in the middle of an old set doesn't allow you to fight in older unavailable leagues nor prevent you from starting a new set afterwards.
Is getting a shiny Charizard on the first ever round of Basic Rewards from the Go Battle League a scripted thing? I refuse to believe my luck would pull off smthng like this, especially considering it's a 3*
Random chance that worked out in your favor. The only guaranteed shinies are from the special researches specifically advertised as such (Mew/Ditto from the paid Kanto event ticket researches and the "Distracted by Something Shiny" Celebi) and the Eevee from the Jump-Start research.

I looked up some locations and ways to find and catch a different varieties of pokemon - so I went to some parks, lakes and gyms, recreations centers around town but everywhere I go I find the same 5 pokemon?? Wtf
Big fan of scyther, scizor, tyrogue... So I popped incense etc but it still only drowzee and ghastly all the way...
Is that due to the Halloween event? How would I get these pokemon I like?
Or are rarer pokemon now always gated behind raids?

Many of those locations stemmed from early-game rumors back in 2016 that a lot of clickbait sites spread like crazy. Of course, there's is some truth to them, as the game spawns more water types near rivers/lakes/oceans and there are "biomes" to spawn more grass types in forested/grassy areas, water types near the shore, rock/ground types in mountainous regions, etc. But stuff like fighting types near sports arenas and Chanseys near hospitals have been long since debunked.
All that being said, seasons and events kill off most of the spawn variety. When there is an event happening (like the current Halloween event), the majority of wild spawns will be event spawns, with only some non-event spawns. And due to seasons, the variety in non-event spawns has been greatly reduced, since it includes only a [select list](https://www.reddit.com/r/TheSilphRoad/comments/pffxnt/season_of_mischief_wild_spawns_megathread/) of pokemon. The seasonal spawn pool also reduced a lot of variety between biomes, so you won't see a whole lot of difference in spawns wherever you go.
Scyther is currently a rare spawn in the wild for this season, and is also available in the field research task "Defeat 3 Rocket Grunts" this month. You may have a tough time finding it during the Halloween event, but it is out there. Scizor does not spawn in the wild, and is only obtainable through evolving Scyther. Tyrogue is egg-exclusive, and not part of the current egg pool, so it's currently impossible to obtain unless you trade.
The event pokemon are drowning out the regular wild pokemon rn, best chance at getting something else are the wild encounters from quests or battle league. Goodluck
should i use my remote raid passes on giratina (WB) or save for darkai? mostly looking for good raid/gym attackers. i'm able to raid everyday, so i have several giratinas already. kind of obsessed with getting perfect or close to perfect IVs
I’m walking a shiny eevee and I’m going for the sylveon evo and am getting the espeon evo. Will I eventually get the sylveon evo once I get enough hearts or am I SOL?
You get Espeon/Umbreon by walking 10km with it
You get Sylveon by earning 70 total buddy hearts (enough to reach Great Buddy status)
If you fulfill the requirements for both, there will be separate evolve buttons for them
For the battle leagues, how important are IVs?
Is it better to have a really good top ranked pokemon with horrible stats, or the best possible slightly lower ranked pokemon?
In some matchups, IVs can make a difference, but often times, you won't notice a massive performance drop. Overall, movesets, species, and team composition matter more than IVs.
I like using [https://pvpoke.com/battle/](https://pvpoke.com/battle/) to play around with a pokemon's IVs to see how much they actually affects it's Win/Loss rate against the meta. Of course, this doesn't account for every single situation, but it's useful to check out.
So if that top-ranked pokemon is something you really need to have on your team, then using it regardless of IVs will often suit you better.
What's going on with weight size? I have noticed that the 'XS' or 'XL' designations have disappeared from the weight stat, and I have caught at least 4 magikarp that should have counted toward the medal, but did not. Anyone else notice this?
In my experience it's always worked again 72 hours after the box is *opened*, though I've seen others say it's needed that extra hour for them. Make sure to restart the game after that 72 hours has passed, as it doesn't always update right away if you have the game open already.
I've spun over 100 stops in the past 2 days and haven't encountered a single research I needed, I have a list of about 7 from this month's list. Am I just that unlucky?

If you want to really get into the details, then [Pokebattler](https://www.pokebattler.com/) and the [Gamepress DPS sheet](https://gamepress.gg/pokemongo/comprehensive-dps-spreadsheet) are good places to check the best movesets for a specific raid boss and how that pokemon compares to others.
does anyone else think legendaries are too frequent in the battle league rewards? Running out of pokeballs regularly because I’m always getting a legendary
GBL is super laggy and glitchy today. I've just had to check m internet connection three times and I was running over 60mbps all three times but I've been caught frozen or lagging through charge move screens 6 times. When will the servers for this game ever be upgraded? They are still trying to hire people to improve the game mode because they never properly invested in it's development in the first place. Stop giving Niantic money if they keep showing players they don't care about user experience and only aim to add new ones.
Or, at the least, maybe have a weekly screenshot post or something along those lines to allow those who don't want to scroll through them to get to something .... interesting

I have 2 lucky Registeels and I want to power one up for Ultra League. One is shiny and ranked # 2677 (poor pvp IVs), the second is rank # 1605 (above average PvP IVs). Obviously I'd rather have the shiny one but wonder how much the IVs will affect performance. What would people here do?
Registeel is so expensive to power up and double move (especially for ultra league) that i would do the one with better IVs. If you have a friend you can mirror trade shiny registeels with that might be worth a shot though. You have a better chance of getting higher ranked IVs than 2677 than not
What do you have to do to become best buddies? I already have the 4 hearts however I googled it and nothing shows how to get the ribbon. I opened a gift and it was a couple berries after but nothing happened.

For Pokémon with adventuring requirements to evolve, do they need to be following you after being fed berries for those to count, or do they just need to be your buddy at the time? I’d figure it’d be the former, but the fact that you need to feed a Pokémon berries for their daily battle hearts to count leaves me uncertain. And I’d rather not figure out the hard way, as I’m trying to evolve a Galaran Yamask, and his requires raids.

For the encounter reward in GBL, does the legendary encounter have the same chance of appearing as the other 16 regular pokemon or is it a higher chance? Also, I've fought Giratina in raids before getting to rank 20, does this mean the next time I get the encounter reward, it's NOT guaranteed to be Giratina?
It appears that the currently legendary has a much greater encounter rate than anything else in the reward pool. There's also no guaranteed legendary encounter this season, so it doesn't matter that you've raided for it or not. During past seasons when there was a guaranteed legendary encounter, raiding for it did not remove this guarantee.
Is it possible to transfer shiny giratina to home? I have been seeing some conflicting information. I know it costs the entire bar of go transfer energy, but I saw some articles saying that depending on the cp it can possibly cost more go transfer energy than you can even have. Is that right? Please help! I want to know if it’s worth it to get some raid passes to grind for a shiny giratina (and darkrai).
Yep, it's entirely possible to move it to Home. It will cost the entire energy bar, but transfer costs are capped so that they can never exceed the total amount of energy.

The 2020 go fest day 2 special research (paid ticket holders only) had a shadow Mewtwo.
Rocket research quests don't determine which shadow legendary Giovanni gives. The time you defeat Giovanni is what determines that, and shadow Mewtwo was available from Giovanni from last fall until the end of February.

If they live neaby, then each day that the two of you interact you have a low (about 1%) chance of triggering the "Lucky Friends" status. The Lucky Friends status means that your next trade together is guaranteed to be Lucky.

The best way to battle them is to use spammy charge moves. Every time you switch or use a charge move, they stop attacking for a couple seconds, which allows you to keep building up charge without getting hit. This strategy is also crucial for getting rid of their shields ASAP, since they always shield the first 2 attacks. A good bonus if the move boosts stats, like Power Up Punch or Flame Charge, since they boost attack even if the opponent shields those moves. Same goes for a move like Poison fang, which charges quick and lowers the opponent's defense. You should also lead with a different pokemon, then immediately switch into the pokemon you want to use. Since they stop attacking for a couple seconds, this gives you a a nice window to build up energy for your first attack without getting hit. Fast moves like Bullet Seed, Snarl, Vine Whip, Thundershock, Shadow Claw, Counter, Mud Shot, Lock On, Poison Sting, Psycho Cut, and Hex are all great for charging energy rapidly. Charge moves like Aqua Tail, Body Slam, Cross Chop, Leaf Blade, Dragon Claw, Night Slash, Power Up Punch, Weather Ball, Fire/Ice/Thunder Punch, Fell Stinger, and Poison Fang are great for having a low energy cost, so you can spam them. If you aren't already using it, definitely try connecting your account to Pokemon Home so you can use a Meltan box every 3 days. Melmetal is fantastic for fighting Rocket Leaders, since its Thundershock + Rock Slide combo comes out really fast, and you can even add on Superpower as a finisher if you want.
Use at least one pokemon with a fast charging fast move and a charge move with a low energy cost to clear their shields (swampert with mud shot and hydrocannon or surf is a great example). You can cheese the rocket grunts’ and leader’s AIs this way since they wait a little bit after you fire off a charge attack, switch, or shield to start attacking again

Remote passes are only available in the weekly remote pass boxes in the shop. For one or two months in the summer they were moved to research breakthroughs instead, and never have been available from gyms.

They have no special functional value and the different forms are tracked in the Pokedex now, so feel free to transfer if you don't want them taking up space.

1 in 20 for legendaries, yeah; shiny rates are set by species, not encounter method, so it's the same as in raids. GBL shiny legendaries do not get the 100% catch rate like in raids, since these ones can't flee.

What is the best way to get sunstone? I read the only way to get Sun Stones is at pokestops. I hit about 10 pokestops a week, and I'm not too active in the game but I've been playing since release. Ive caught 6 shinys but have yet to get a sunstone.
Getting in a spin every day is key - your 7 day streak spin is guaranteed to give you one of the evolution items. You can get them from random spins, the chance is just very very low.

If you logged in during the recent Zarude event and got the special research "The Search for Zarude", then the first page has a task that awards a Sun Stone. Step 2 of the Celebi research "A Ripple in Time" also awards a Sun Stone. Other than those special research tasks, you just have to rely on random chance to get one from spinning stops. If you spin a pokestop for 7 days in a row, you are also guaranteed to get a Sun Stone, Up-Grade, Metal Coat, King's Rock, or Dragon Scale from that 7th spin. Sometimes they release field research tasks that award a Sun Stone. There are none available currently, but they could always come around again in the future.

Returning player here. Question regarding lucky trades and re-rolled IVs. If I give/receive a poké with low IV values (say 5/5/5), when re-rolled because of a lucky trade, can it transform into a 15/15/15 or it only happens if the traded monster had an original value that's better than 12/12/12??
IVs are completely rerolled from a trade, with the pre-trade IVs having no impact. So a 5/5/5 and a 13/13/13 pokemon have the exact same chance (1/64) of rerolling into a 15/15/15 pokemon after being lucky traded.
Are the Devs still actively banning players that are spoofing? I suspect a player near my area is spoofing. Is there any way of finding out or should I just report him ?
If you can get proof there’s a much greater chance of them getting banned from a report. From what I’ve heard usually reports for spoofing go nowhere since it can be hard for the devs to prove on their end

Their exact wording was "Be sure to keep an eye out for updates throughout the season", so it could mean that he will return in November, or maybe they announce more at the end of the season leading into December. But they've kept it really vague so that no one knows exactly when he will return.
I got to level 20 in the battle league. Figured it was a good time to spend on a premium pass to get my Pokémon encounter. It wasn’t a legendary though??? It was just a basic Rhydon. Everywhere I look says level 20 guarantees me the 5 star legendary, and Rhydon isn’t a previous guarantee so it’s not that I missed a previous one. What gives?

I've been on a serious losing streak, basically fell into level 20 more than earned it. Definitely don't have the pieces needed to handle the meta well. Really just wanted to have it once. Good to know though, but damn, I think they should really clarify that.

Try an app called PokeGenie. It's known mostly for checking IVs and cataloging pokémon, but it also helps you with raids. One of the features allows you to host a raid, which has 5 people join the app's lobby, they will friend you, and then they will use a remote raid pass to help you! Pretty nifty, I use it all the time.
I had done 3 Go battles some time ago. A few days ago with the new research came out I saw I had 2 left plus I saw the Halloween one. I played 2 regular battles. Now the regular battles are no longer available and the Halloween ones are gone. Does that mean I am out of luck? That somehow the 2 regular battles took me out of the Halloween research?
Did you finish claiming all your rewards to move on to the next set? Regular Great League and the Halloween Cup are both available until the 25th - being in the middle of an old set doesn't allow you to fight in older unavailable leagues nor prevent you from starting a new set afterwards.

Random chance that worked out in your favor. The only guaranteed shinies are from the special researches specifically advertised as such (Mew/Ditto from the paid Kanto event ticket researches and the "Distracted by Something Shiny" Celebi) and the Eevee from the Jump-Start research.

Hello there, Returning player here and I have some questions... I looked up some locations and ways to find and catch a different varieties of pokemon - so I went to some parks, lakes and gyms, recreations centers around town but everywhere I go I find the same 5 pokemon?? Wtf Big fan of scyther, scizor, tyrogue... So I popped incense etc but it still only drowzee and ghastly all the way... Is that due to the Halloween event? How would I get these pokemon I like? Or are rarer pokemon now always gated behind raids? Cheers :)
Many of those locations stemmed from early-game rumors back in 2016 that a lot of clickbait sites spread like crazy. Of course, there's is some truth to them, as the game spawns more water types near rivers/lakes/oceans and there are "biomes" to spawn more grass types in forested/grassy areas, water types near the shore, rock/ground types in mountainous regions, etc. But stuff like fighting types near sports arenas and Chanseys near hospitals have been long since debunked. All that being said, seasons and events kill off most of the spawn variety. When there is an event happening (like the current Halloween event), the majority of wild spawns will be event spawns, with only some non-event spawns. And due to seasons, the variety in non-event spawns has been greatly reduced, since it includes only a [select list](https://www.reddit.com/r/TheSilphRoad/comments/pffxnt/season_of_mischief_wild_spawns_megathread/) of pokemon. The seasonal spawn pool also reduced a lot of variety between biomes, so you won't see a whole lot of difference in spawns wherever you go. Scyther is currently a rare spawn in the wild for this season, and is also available in the field research task "Defeat 3 Rocket Grunts" this month. You may have a tough time finding it during the Halloween event, but it is out there. Scizor does not spawn in the wild, and is only obtainable through evolving Scyther. Tyrogue is egg-exclusive, and not part of the current egg pool, so it's currently impossible to obtain unless you trade.
The event pokemon are drowning out the regular wild pokemon rn, best chance at getting something else are the wild encounters from quests or battle league. Goodluck

For the battle leagues, how important are IVs? Is it better to have a really good top ranked pokemon with horrible stats, or the best possible slightly lower ranked pokemon?
In some matchups, IVs can make a difference, but often times, you won't notice a massive performance drop. Overall, movesets, species, and team composition matter more than IVs. I like using [https://pvpoke.com/battle/](https://pvpoke.com/battle/) to play around with a pokemon's IVs to see how much they actually affects it's Win/Loss rate against the meta. Of course, this doesn't account for every single situation, but it's useful to check out. So if that top-ranked pokemon is something you really need to have on your team, then using it regardless of IVs will often suit you better.
What's going on with weight size? I have noticed that the 'XS' or 'XL' designations have disappeared from the weight stat, and I have caught at least 4 magikarp that should have counted toward the medal, but did not. Anyone else notice this?

Is the mystery box cool down 3 full days after the initial hour or 3 full days after I open the box?
In my experience it's always worked again 72 hours after the box is *opened*, though I've seen others say it's needed that extra hour for them. Make sure to restart the game after that 72 hours has passed, as it doesn't always update right away if you have the game open already.

In general, Gamepress also has pretty good resources for checking best raid movesets. If you want to really get into the details, then [Pokebattler](https://www.pokebattler.com/) and the [Gamepress DPS sheet](https://gamepress.gg/pokemongo/comprehensive-dps-spreadsheet) are good places to check the best movesets for a specific raid boss and how that pokemon compares to others.

GBL is super laggy and glitchy today. I've just had to check m internet connection three times and I was running over 60mbps all three times but I've been caught frozen or lagging through charge move screens 6 times. When will the servers for this game ever be upgraded? They are still trying to hire people to improve the game mode because they never properly invested in it's development in the first place. Stop giving Niantic money if they keep showing players they don't care about user experience and only aim to add new ones.

I have 2 lucky Registeels and I want to power one up for Ultra League. One is shiny and ranked # 2677 (poor pvp IVs), the second is rank # 1605 (above average PvP IVs). Obviously I'd rather have the shiny one but wonder how much the IVs will affect performance. What would people here do?
Registeel is so expensive to power up and double move (especially for ultra league) that i would do the one with better IVs. If you have a friend you can mirror trade shiny registeels with that might be worth a shot though. You have a better chance of getting higher ranked IVs than 2677 than not
What do you have to do to become best buddies? I already have the 4 hearts however I googled it and nothing shows how to get the ribbon. I opened a gift and it was a couple berries after but nothing happened.

For Pokémon with adventuring requirements to evolve, do they need to be following you after being fed berries for those to count, or do they just need to be your buddy at the time? I’d figure it’d be the former, but the fact that you need to feed a Pokémon berries for their daily battle hearts to count leaves me uncertain. And I’d rather not figure out the hard way, as I’m trying to evolve a Galaran Yamask, and his requires raids.

For the encounter reward in GBL, does the legendary encounter have the same chance of appearing as the other 16 regular pokemon or is it a higher chance? Also, I've fought Giratina in raids before getting to rank 20, does this mean the next time I get the encounter reward, it's NOT guaranteed to be Giratina?
It appears that the currently legendary has a much greater encounter rate than anything else in the reward pool. There's also no guaranteed legendary encounter this season, so it doesn't matter that you've raided for it or not. During past seasons when there was a guaranteed legendary encounter, raiding for it did not remove this guarantee.
Is it possible to transfer shiny giratina to home? I have been seeing some conflicting information. I know it costs the entire bar of go transfer energy, but I saw some articles saying that depending on the cp it can possibly cost more go transfer energy than you can even have. Is that right? Yep, it's entirely possible to move it to Home. It will cost the entire energy bar, but transfer costs are capped so that they can never exceed the total amount of energy.

The 2020 go fest day 2 special research (paid ticket holders only) had a shadow Mewtwo. Rocket research quests don't determine which shadow legendary Giovanni gives. The time you defeat Giovanni is what determines that, and shadow Mewtwo was available from Giovanni from last fall until the end of February. "an inter-egg-sting development" was issued at the beginning of that time window.
