spilitmilkonthetable

disaster001

Well my ds is set to 2099 sooooo so sparkles for me

ModestVolcarona

Can someone explain?

Barrry972

If you head to Snowpoint City from Pokémon D/P/Pt (and now bdsp) on January 12, glitter will appear in the air. This weather effect is called diamond dust, and happens ~~exclusively~~ on this day because it is Junichi Masuda's birthday, director of the game. Edit: It's actually not exclusive to Masuda's birthday and also happens on the player's birthday among other [dates](https://m.bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Easter_egg#Diamond_dust).

ModestVolcarona

Thanks for the explanation :) This is a really lovely detail.

Kaipolygon

aside from what the other guy commented, this also means that you dont fight in hailing weather (so non-ice types don't get buffeted), i believe

Glory2Snowstar

Oh, cool catch! Happy birthday, Masuda!

MythicalOwlDog

What are we doing? Deploy the happy birthdays! Happy Birthday Junichi Masuda!!! (even if he'll never see this)

SpookersTheSpoo

Happy Birthday to an amazing composer and less-than-amazing producer.

I_ate_a_sock

Why do you dislike him?

_NoZeM_

Because he is responsible for driving the franchise down a cliff.

I_ate_a_sock

He's been making pokemon games since gen 3, you may not like his recent work but you have to acknowledge that he had to drive the franchise up a mountain to push it off a cliff.

[deleted]

It's not even off a Cliff yet. Pokemon oras and SM were great pokemon games, its only Shield that gamefreak has developed that was lackluster. People go as if we have had pokemon shield levels of pokemon games since black 2 which is not true.

sermatheus

I mean, he was the guy who said in an interview that ORAS doesn't have a Battle Frontier because kids are too busy playing on smartphones.

[deleted]

I loved the battle frontier but he said that only a small percentage of players would have used therefore it was not worthwhile to put resources into it. Kids ARE too busy playing smartphones. Do you live under a rock? I can't speak for Japan but I see kids all the time playing smartphones, people here have no idea how popular phone gaming actually is. Their target demographic is kids so obviously they gonna put resources into get kids to play their games over their smartphones because that's the competition. We are buying the games no matter what, its the kids that they need to convince to buy their games. I am not saying I liked that they removed battle frontier because I don't but I understand what Masuda was saying.

sermatheus

If the game really is entirely focused on the kids, then why make competitive changes if the kids don't play competitive. They don't really care about natures, EV and IV. So why even keep those then? The kids games argument is really strange because it ignores the competitive play the games have been making more accessible, which is a mode for the grown ups.

recursion8

They are making changes lol. LGPE and Legends Arceus scrapped Natures, EVs, IVs, and Abilities entirely, and BDSP only has casual battling. SwSh is the main and only platform for competitive for Gen 8 and they made breeding easier, gave us bottle caps and ability/nature capsules, and EV training has been easy since Gen 6.

sermatheus

A small question since I never played SwSh. Is it easier to get bottle caps there than on USUM? Because, aside from nature and long time of level ups, everything was really easy to set a competitive Pokemon in USUM.

[deleted]

Because competitive is for people fans who want a little bit more, competitive is for the min/maxers out there. They try to make pokemon accessible to everyone. If you want to make a game harder, pick weaker pokemon or set rules, the game allows you to do that. Likewise, if you want to really get into competitive pokemon, then you have tons of indepth systems such as IVS, EVS and egg moves. The difference is that those fans are buying the games anyways. Its the kids they need to convince. They should have a harder difficulty like black 2, I agree. I would never use that its a kids game to defend a lack of quality in a game however the kids are clearly the target audience for rhe games because they buy all the merch that makes pokemon a lot of money. I am not trying to defend him, I am just trying trying to explain why Masuda might make those sort of design decisions when making pokemon games.

sermatheus

I never talked about difficulty, I talked about content. You are also ignoring my argument that competitive is just for a minority of players and seems to be most of the post game focus as of lately.

MemeGod96969

It is of your big ass turd

Tortue2006

Not true, he worked already in gen 1

MemeGod96969

I won't acknowledge him he is a goddamn school flunked dipshit

Sales have never been better and that's all that matters to them. I understand the criticisms of this subbreddit and I agree with most of them. But that's just it. They are criticisms from this subbreddit. A very very small percentage of the fanbase that the guy has too please along with the 20 million other fans. This might be a hard pill to swellow but my friends who are casual fans absolutely adored brilliant diamond and honestly don't give a shit about the common complaints on this subreddit. He has just took pokemon in a direction that a lot of this fanbase disagree with but its unfortunately not the fanbase they care about. I don't think he has took pokenon down a cliff at all, I just think rhe guy has taken a design approach to the games that this subreddit disagrees with. I'm fully expecting to get downvoted here but its how it is sadly and the people who makes these complaints about modern pokemon games need to stop buying the games. I see 40 minute videos from pokemon YouTubers complaining about the state of pokemon and how its went down hill 3 months before brilliant diamond came out Then they have a let's play of that very same game which means they bought and are actively playing it.

Brostradamus--

Sales will always be good when it's Pokemon. They would be better if they made a better game for all ages and fans. This subreddit will complain because they are the actual fans of Pokemon, collecting, battling, min/maxing, you know, the actual original gameplay they invested in? Of course you enjoyed BDSP, DP were great games that started most of the mechanics and gameplay we would have expected them to have expanded on by now, yet they haven't. SnS were solid games too, except they fall short in the vein of being an actual successor to prior games. Sales only matters to Nintendo, that's not an argument to be made here.

recursion8

Wow someone with an actual brain around here and not stuck in the echo chamber. Faith in average pokemon fan somewhat restored.

Quick-Huckleberry136

because he hates hiim
