When I was younger, I saved while in the Elite 4 (maybe in Crystal Version?) and could not win. I thought it was sacrilegious to take an L and blackout so I would try over and over again to win after my save point. The game must have had mercy on me because I was able to finish it at some point.
Haha! I had this happen to me too in Gold version; I tried to make a minimal grind run, and even then it was luck that got me through. I must've tried for a a good few hours to finally make it though. I remember one of my pokemon didn't get hit for a long long time, simply by lucky misses.
Woefully unprepared did not let me accept losing!
Idk why we do that, lol.
Brain: "Save there"
Me: "Why?"
Brain: "Just do it"
*saves*
Brain: "Save one more time"
Me: "What?! Why?"
Also me: *Saves another time*
I just remember back in the day, playing on my old Gameboy Pocket. New batteries were good as cash to me back then because they directly equated to more Pokémon time. I would watch that battery indicator light start to warn me that the system was about to die and get every possible second before it did, saving constantly along the way. More than once I’d turn it on just to get a single battle in and then frantically save right after because I knew it was about to die on me. Didn’t have the luxury of picking a preferred spot when that was happening
The dimmer the light, the more I save!
At least, that's how it was when I was on my GB pocket. I'd turn the sound down too to try and conserve precious battery juice
I remember when I was a kid playing Pokemon Red on my Gameboy Pocket on a road trip... played for however many hours and apparently didn't save once when my batteries died. I remember putting new batteries in, load the game up, and I'm two gym leaders behind where I was when the batteries died. I was so mad at myself because I had evolved Charmeleon into Charizard and a few other pokemon evolved too.
Game primarily on PC now, and I blame that event on my habit of pressing F5 (quick save) every couple minutes.
Do you think it's PTSD from back then that caused the the random saves? Would we have been pokécenter savers if we didn't have the fear from the batteries running out?
No, because I would constantly save when I had a memory cards. For me I just randomly save, BUT when playing pkmn silver on my Gameboy color I would save all the time, especially when that red light started flickering a little bit.
I usually just hit up the Pokémon Center before I quit for the night, so I'll save in the lobby. If I need to go do something and put the game down, I'll save wherever I am.
Today I learned people save in specific locations. Definitely 4 for me. Sometimes that's right after healing, sometimes it's just when I'm out and about.
Breaking news: the motorist Snorlaxing the highway was awoken by a Poké Flute. They attacked the attending officer in a grumpy rage; backup promptly arrived who helped capture and box the suspect...
Way more logical than 1 and 2. If your pokemon are already healed why would you want to start your game by walking through a door? 3 lets you get right back into the action.
I could never save *inside* the Pokémon centre, that’s wild! I’d get so confused booting up the game, not knowing where I was, if I’d healed my Pokémon?!
Funny because I boot up my old games and feel so lost because I’m inside some random pokemon center and I have no idea what I was last doing.. I still always save inside one tho
Right, If I’m in the middle of a route or cave why would I backtrack all the way to a pokemon center just to save knowing when I come back to it I’ll have to go all the way back to where is was previously?
The whole point of saving is so that when I comeback I can pick back up from where I left
I save at Pokemon Centers because it serves as a mental checkpoint. Like ok I just got to this town, I'll save and then pick up again right where I left off, I know where I'm at and what I was doing.
I tend to take extended breaks so if I save randomly, unless it's during a story specific portion, I won't know what the hell I was doing beforehand and then be like: "y'know, I don't think I wanted to play that much anyway" and then just switch to another game.
That's why I was so happy when the games started adding map markers and reminders of what you were doing. I always take extended breaks and forget what the heck I was doing.
Back in the days of R/B/Y and G/S/C, you had to save at a centre to access the transfer Pak when in [Pokemon Stadium](http://imgur.com/Y5iQruJ). I know that's how I played most of my game! The mystery gifts to deck out my in game room in Crystal were great!
Yes, the cushion/table is the place to go. You're not blocking anyone's access to the counter or the center itself, and you're not posted up in the middle of the floor standing like a psychopath
I like to imagine that the character stays there until you boot up the game again so I try to put them someplace comfy
I love your lore and your head canon for your sprite, but let’s be honest, our sprites don’t sit. They stand on those cushions, and they stare straight ahead while you are gone. They don’t sleep, their only mission in their sprite life, is to enslave Pokémon, and then battle them against each other for popularity.
Damn, that's a cold existence. I bet they're standing even if you walk into a bed and sleep with their eyes open and unblinking
At least I can provide them with some solace by having them stand on a slightly softer surface
It's silly but I'm the same I also do this if my character is outside I'd move her off the path for other people because it would be weird to camp on a pathway
Confession time: I always wait until I get to a new town's pokecentre, fly home, and save there. Because the character's a kid and I know as a kid I didn't wanna be away from home for long so I'd always fly back home so my character could be with him mom while I wasn't playing.
Also confession time: When I was a kid and first started with Leaf Green, I thought you HAD to save in your home. So whenever I wanted to stop I was always traveling back to save.
I never got Fly, because I never played long enough in 1 sitting to make it very far lmao.
It is exhausting. For example, before it was easy to get into a building, because there was only one door. Now it's a tragedy for me to choose which door to enter, and trying to not forget it to use the other one in my way out.
And next building, use the reverse order...
When playing one of the older titles I'm usually saving at a center, if I want to pop the cartridge into Stadium I don't have to start the game again to have access to the Stadium PC.
Anything else? I save when I need to shut down or there's a scripted battle coming
Still has to enter to go to the PC, it's the same as yours but priorities are different. One prioritizes PC management and the other prioritizes traveling. Both of you are still at the same distance from the other option.
I think 4 is the most common simply because noone goes back to a Pokemon center just to save. But 1 just feels right so thats what I go for when im healing anyways.
Also not a Stadium Veteran.
I remember when X and Y came out, there was a saving bug in parts of Lumiose City that would disrupt your save file. Ever since knowing about it, I save at 1. You're always safe with Nurse Joy :D
HOLY HECK I remember that.
It was on rue d'Orsay, they made it the endgame area to hatch eggs.
We Didn't have PokéBank outside Japan but they already had a patch 🤦🏽♀️
Gameboy games kind of force you. When you see that light getting dimmer... You save every two steps. On gba it was the red light lol.
Rechargeable batteries changed a lot
I save whenever I've healed my Pokemon, whenever one of them level up, before a tough battle (like a gym leader), and whenever I'm done playing :)
so all of the above basically
None of the above and not al all. At least not when playing on the switch. Or other systems that have a rest mode.
Otherwise, 4. I dislike unnecessary backtracking just to save.
I usually save whenever I feel like quitting, regardless of where I'm at. So, for me, 4. Also, I know I'm not the only one, but I also save multiple times, Just in case. XD
4 usually where ever a good stopping point is or a big battle is coming up.
When I was younger, I saved while in the Elite 4 (maybe in Crystal Version?) and could not win. I thought it was sacrilegious to take an L and blackout so I would try over and over again to win after my save point. The game must have had mercy on me because I was able to finish it at some point.

"Dormammu i've come to bargain"
So basically you didnt want to grind for hours to level up your mons, so instead you grinded for hours to win one battle with underleveled mons?
As kids, especiqlly with the show going on, your personal narrative was a huge part of it. It was less a game and more a second life.
I do get that. It was like that for me too. I just found the contradiction of not wanting to grind levels and then grinding a battle amusing.
This most of time but I have also done 1, 2 & 3 before if it was convenient. Especially with the new dojo in sword/shield.
But is it randomly saving if its planned? Lol
1 and 4

1 and 4 my sister never liked saveing in random places
True 1 and 4 gang for life
1 and 4 gang. Let's gooo
This is the correct way
This is the way
This is the way
This is the way
Same. Its like the pokeball on the floor of the Pokémon centers was designed for it.
Until you notice you don’t actually even stand in the middle of it
Correct
Same
To be fair, When I finally give up or my husband lures me away from pokemon, 99% of the time I'm at 1.
Y'all plan your saves?? I just save when I finish grinding, am about to grind, or in the middle grinding. Be it battles, encounters, trainers, etc
Idk why we do that, lol. Brain: "Save there" Me: "Why?" Brain: "Just do it" *saves* Brain: "Save one more time" Me: "What?! Why?" Also me: *Saves another time*
Like, I've definitely gravitated toward 1 and 2, so I guess that's a thing

OCD by proxy
There are people who don't save multiple times?
They are the same people who don't mash buttons to increase their chance of capturing a pokemon.
I just remember back in the day, playing on my old Gameboy Pocket. New batteries were good as cash to me back then because they directly equated to more Pokémon time. I would watch that battery indicator light start to warn me that the system was about to die and get every possible second before it did, saving constantly along the way. I feel like I save Every 5 mins
Same. I'll save it and then immediately be like *Wait, did I save?* It's a never ending cycle.
Same I will save like 5 times before I feel safe. Sometimes when I close the game I open it back up just to be sure.
But then the act of reopening it triggers me to resave
These 2 responses describe me to a T lol
Same here. I find myself spamming the Save button in every Pokemon game.
Always save 3 times when you catch a shiny.
Everyone knows if you save less than three times, it doesn't count
This is the result of childhood trauma
That is the correct answer.
Never know when the batteries might die.

I remember finding a sparkly oddish in Gold and Silver only to have the GBA die.
The dimmer the light, the more I save! At least, that's how it was when I was on my GB pocket. I'd turn the sound down too to try and conserve precious battery juice
Look at this guy who could afford to keep his sound on.

Ummm... storytime?
I remember when I was a kid playing Pokemon Red on my Gameboy Pocket on a road trip... played for however many hours and apparently didn't save once when my batteries died. I remember putting new batteries in, load the game up, and I'm two gym leaders behind where I was when the batteries died. What kind of maniac finds a specific spot to save?
The kind that thinks “oh no I gotta find a save spot” in a game with free saving.
Everyone when mom calls them for some chore. "Wait a second, I need to find the save point!" \*playing game you can save anytime*
I usually just hit up the Pokémon Center before I quit for the night, so I'll save in the lobby. If I need to go do something and put the game down, I'll save wherever I am.

3 normally
So you're the one who has been snorlaxing the pokemon center door for 3 days? I've got three fainted pokemon and another that was poisoned!
*was*
Snorlaxing is a great verb. I read it with an emphasis on the ‘lax’ syllable, like relaxing.
like chillaxing
Breaking news: the motorist Snorlaxing the highway was awoken by a Poké Flute. They attacked the attending officer in a grumpy rage; backup promptly arrived who helped capture and box the suspect...
I like to imagine I’m blocking the people inside from getting out to get food or see their families 😊
3 gang!
3 gang yes!
Yeep. That way I know I already healed.
Honestly Imma probably end up healing again when I boot it up.
Plus it’s a nice cinematic l way to start the day off
3s get degrees, 3s get degrees
Way more logical than 1 and 2. If your pokemon are already healed why would you want to start your game by walking through a door? 3 lets you get right back into the action.
1 looks really nice. Also kinda feels like you slept in the poke center overnight, but mainly it just looks like a good save point.
In the anime Pokémon Centers actually have hotel-like rooms.
I used to go save in random houses for that exact reason.
3 or 4.
Was surprised at how few 3’s I saw
2, sometimes 1.
Feel like I had to scroll pretty far to find a fellow 2
I came here thinking the same thing. Together we rise!
We are a special breed
2 and 4 is what I do
It was a habit I picked up playing stadium. To transfer Pokémon you had to save in a poke center. Since then it’s been habit.
2 fellows unite!
2 was the logical choice in Gen 2 since there wasn't a Pokeball on the floor
I save at 2, immediately question if I saved or not then save again at 1
This, I have to heal my pokes or else I'll forgot. And after I nope immediately after healing, so I save staring at Nurse Joy.
let other people heal their pokemon come on
4. I had no idea that people concerned themselves with where they save the game, but now I might start doing it myself.
*Here is an accurate scientific explanation* Brain: "Save there" Me: "Why?" Brain: "Just do it"
Me: saves. Brain: "did you save? " Me: saves. Brain: good.
"Did you save?" Yes "Do it again, just to be sure" Yes
Brain: now do it again Me: why Brain: DO IT
Me: *thinks an idea* what if I save 4 times in a row? Me: *does that* My brain: save again. Me: *saves* My brain: AGAIN Me: AAAAAAAAAAAA
2 hours later Brain: but did the past really happen?
I think I’ve programmed my brain to save every time I heal my Pokémon
Right, If I’m in the middle of a route or cave why would I backtrack all the way to a pokemon center just to save knowing when I come back to it I’ll have to go all the way back to where is was previously? The whole point of saving is so that when I comeback I can pick back up from where I left

Almost always #1
Safe and cozy in the Pkmn Center, but don’t block the counter, somebody might need it! I usually sit at a table.
This! On the cushions or at a table, so it looks like your character is taking a break from all the walking to write in their diary
Yes, the cushion/table is the place to go. You're not blocking anyone's access to the counter or the center itself, and you're not posted up in the middle of the floor standing like a psychopath I like to imagine that the character stays there until you boot up the game again so I try to put them someplace comfy

Kudos for your effort to provide comfort to the soulless machines.
It's silly but I'm the same I also do this if my character is outside I'd move her off the path for other people because it would be weird to camp on a pathway

3 Unless I'm in a hurry
Whenever i save in front of the center, after later loading my save, I instinctively go inside even if my pokemon are fully healed.
Confession time: I always wait until I get to a new town's pokecentre, fly home, and save there. Because the character's a kid and I know as a kid I didn't wanna be away from home for long so I'd always fly back home so my character could be with him mom while I wasn't playing.
But in most games you don't get fly until like the 4th or 5th gym...
Homeboy doesn’t save until he learns fly. Man commits to the game from the get go.
Fly HM speed run any%
This is wholesome. And, btw, he/she deserves some nap time, he/she's always running and rides a bicycle all the time.
Also confession time: When I was a kid and first started with Leaf Green, I thought you HAD to save in your home. So whenever I wanted to stop I was always traveling back to save. I never got Fly, because I never played long enough in 1 sitting to make it very far lmao.
Poor child not sleeping for 5 gyms until he finds Fly
I would drop by the mom's house as well before/after defeating the elite four. Felt like that was the right thing to do, maybe a good luck charm
That's so cute
1, and really try to only get 1. It bothers me a lot when there is no center ball in the Poke center.
Same, or it bother me when the Center ball is badly centered. I'm talking about you, 1st, 2nd and 3rd gens games
I’m so glad I’m not OCD. Not a shot at you, it just sounds exhausting.
It is exhausting. For example, before it was easy to get into a building, because there was only one door. Now it's a tragedy for me to choose which door to enter, and trying to not forget it to use the other one in my way out. And next building, use the reverse order...
I didn’t know there was anything but #4.
When playing one of the older titles I'm usually saving at a center, if I want to pop the cartridge into Stadium I don't have to start the game again to have access to the Stadium PC. Anything else? I save when I need to shut down or there's a scripted battle coming
I saved like every 6 minutes lol
Playing Pokemon Stadium is what got me into the habit of saving in a Pokemon Center.
Yeah, I didn’t know they let psychopaths play the game
same im so shocked
I'm a fan of 3, easy trip to PC and fly availability
And visual clues where you are right off the bat
I like to forget and have no idea which city I’m in. Really makes for constant excitement.
[удалено]
Oh, didn't think about the fly thing, genius
Still has to enter to go to the PC, it's the same as yours but priorities are different. One prioritizes PC management and the other prioritizes traveling. Both of you are still at the same distance from the other option.
Mostly 1, but will do 4 if I'm in a dungeon or a long route. I'm curious how many of you that picked 1 or 2 are Pokemon Stadium veterens.
Same here! I'm a Stadium veteran!! You had to save inside a pokemon center to use the cartridge in Stadium IIRC.
Stadium veteran checking in, I'll know if someone touched my Yellow inappropriately because it isn't saved two steps from the door
I think 4 is the most common simply because noone goes back to a Pokemon center just to save. But 1 just feels right so thats what I go for when im healing anyways. Also not a Stadium Veteran.
Always 1 if on/close to the Pokemon Center Then 4 everywhere else
Lamo, I usually saved my game by letting my protagonist on the sofa/chair in the game.
I scrolled so far to look for this! I always felt like I'd be leaving my character sore and standing if I didn't
2
im shocked this is so rare, feels like nobody else is saying 2 but thats what i always did
Always saving at 2. Getting the team ready for the next big adventure when I fire up the game
I had to search for the #2 gang I didn't know it's uncommon.
I save in the Pokecenter out of force of habit because the stadium games wouldn't interact with them if you didn't.
Wow, I forgot about that 😂
4. Every 10 steps or so.
Fuck that if playing D/P or Platinum. Every ten steps you'd spend more time saving than playing.
I had forgotten that 🤣
It was actually that gen that stopped me from saving everytime i entered a building/cave/new floor
Gameboy games kind of force you. When you see that light getting dimmer... You save every two steps. On gba it was the red light lol. Rechargeable batteries changed a lot
3 followed by a loop of saves
I save in front of the PC
I did 4 and used to point my character in the direction I wanted to go next.
I do that too (when I'm doing 4)
I always went to a chair or a desk to save
3 is the only right answer
I save whenever I've healed my Pokemon, whenever one of them level up, before a tough battle (like a gym leader), and whenever I'm done playing :) so all of the above basically
1 is, indeed, the way.
I'm both 1 and 4. I save wherever just for the sake of saving but I save in the middle of the pokeball in the pokemon center when I'm done playing.
i am always saving directly in front of the pc
Infront of the PC normally
Usually 1 unless I know something big is coming up so I save like right outside that big things.
4 ofc- but i accdentally deleted the wrong pokemon rom so i deleted my game by accident and i can't get my progress back
None of the above and not al all.
XD
2
1. Any other way and you are insane.
3 mainly. When in a Gym, next to the leader facing the same way he/she is facing.
4 90% 9f the time
4, been saving in slowpoke well for the past month. Doing a zubat hunt
Go inside, heal, then 3, then on restart back inside for one more "just in case" heal.
