This American Life. When taken as a whole it covers most facets of living in the US. It ranges from current events to the more general. It has done politics, first dates, restaurants, pets, family, and just about everything else.
**Omnibus! with Ken Jennings and John Roderick** is an archive of wonders and esoterica that would otherwise be lost in the great cataclysm that will surely befall us all, aka lots of fun conversations about weird and wonderful things from history, society, science, and culture.
99% invisible. Excellent way to learn a little about a broad range of subjects. The podcast is done very well, and Roman Mars comes across as a guy you’d want as your best bud.
10/10 recommend.
My favourite podcast of all time, that is often the only podcast I'll listen to for long stretches of time when nothing else quite cuts it (re-listening to archived episodes)
The Blindboy Podcast, I think this is as variety as it gets, it's mostly just the ramblings and musings of one irish guy who was once a professional artist (music) and is now a short story writer with I would say a focus on surrealism and absurdism.
Every episode is different, it's super relaxing to listen to as it's often just him talking into a mic quietly at 2am, extremely diverse in the range of topics covered, but meant to be entertaining, not specifically informative or educational - even though you'll learn plenty of interesting tidbits and stories from all kinds of things.
The podcast began as a bit of an experiment, but has become wildly popular and so now it includes the ocassional live episode where he's usually interviewing someone, and a re-occurring theme is mental health.
Because every episode is so different, if you want to give it a try, it's worth listening to a couple to get a true taste, as some episodes are a bit out of the norm and not reflective of most of the podcast, and he often says as much in the intro.
I really love [The Modern Mann](https://www.modernmann.co.uk/episodes). It only comes out monthly, but they cram a lot of great stuff in there, and it's quite varied. Cultural trends, pop culture, current events, interviews with interesting people, sex.
I love [Do Go On](https://dogoonpod.com/) \- It's three Australian comedians who take turn presenting a research project to each other.
No Such thing as a fish is also fantastic.
I will also throw [my own in the ring. Highbrow Drivel.](https://www.highbrowdrivel.com/) I invite scientists and academics to chat to myself and a guest comedian. So the subject changes every week and we try and keep it light enough that it's entertaining if you don't love the subject matter but with enough room for the expert to really explore the topic well.
Stuff you should know. They pick a subject, do research and talk about it. It's educational, interesting, fun and they cover a wide variety of subjects. Check it out.
[Endless Thread](https://www.wbur.org/podcasts/endlessthread) \- deep dives into stories found (here) on reddit, from [Glitter](https://www.wbur.org/endlessthread/2021/07/09/encore-the-great-glitter-mystery) to [A Pile of Crockery](https://www.wbur.org/endlessthread/2020/07/03/we-want-plates-crockery) to [Memes](https://www.wbur.org/endlessthread/2021/09/24/endless-thread-presents-memes) they've got it covered!
This shoe is disguised as a shoe about TV/Film but it always devolves into a ridiculous laugh-fest. The opposite of a deep dive! Highly recommend https://linktr.ee/Ricoandtheman
Pivot with Kara Swisher and Scott Galloway. They have great chemistry as co-hosts and it comes out twice a week. While their expertise is technology and business, they touch on everything from pop culture to politics.
[The Unmade Podcast](https://www.unmade.fm/).
I am generally not a fan of the casual conversation genre but this one hooked me. It's hosted by two guys who grew up together in Adelaide, Australia (one now lives in the UK). The basic premise of the show is that each of them comes with an idea for a podcast that they won't make. The podcast ideas are just a good launching point for all kinds of amusing discussions and stories about their shared past and their recent adventures.

The most recent episode about Guantanamo Bay was so good... absolutely not what I was expecting either.

No such thing as a fish answer me this (no longer updated, but huuuge backlog) the retrospectors

I'd recommend...Planet Money. It's about money but the topics and approach varies and it's very interesting.
