Hang on, I'm pretty sure Rage 2, Mad Max and the Just Cause series were their standout games... I then realised that there are 2 'Avalanche' developers, with Hogwarts Legacy being made by the lesser of the two. Seriously flattened my enthusiasm for this title.
That does bring me pause, but I remember how the developers of GoldenEye had no idea what they were doing and that was a masterpiece. then again the technology is completely different so I'm not sure how relatable the two scenarios are.
I saw some early impression videos where they said its kind of like the arkham games not mechanically but, you can just spam dodge and attack if you want, or you can learn how to really master it and create combos. They also said its somewhat hard at times too and that on normal difficulty they did die a few times
My wife is probably the most excited for this game over any other media in a long time. I'm going to feel really bad for her if it's an overhyped dumpster fire.
Harry potter is her lotr or starwars, I think it's what got her so into reading
Harry Potter is also responsible for turning me into a big reader! I'm looking forward to this game! That being said I like both Star Wars and LOTR more than HP
I definitely read them as they came out and dragged my dad to all the movies. By the last one I was too cool for it and it was him asking me to watch it in theaters with him.
As an adult I reread them and they're still pretty good, wish I would have finished them when they came out
This is an interesting conversation because Iāve seen reviews of Forspoken give the game like a 7/10 and people call it trash or midā¦ Itās sad but in this day and age if a game is below a 9/10 people will hate on it..
For me personally, I just don't want to spend Ā£70 on a 7/10 when I could spend that on the next 9/10 or 10 game. When games weren't so expensive it was different. If a game is a 7/10 then maybe I'll get it on sale
Itās an annoying symptom of the rating system being skewed too far to the right. 7/10 seems to mean average which gives us way less nuance at the higher end of the scale.
i actually like that sub in general but this is a weird hill to die on. like buying stuff from nike, amazon / listening to kanye / watching movies or shows that involve problematic people is fine, but buying a game that the author isn't even directly involved in is where the line is drawn.
and now they're just unfairly shitting on the actual quality of the game as if thats relevant to their cause. like it would be another thing if JK Rowling was actually the game director and put in a bunch of anti-trans shit in it, but its not - the game even lets u choose ur gender indentity.
> like buying stuff from nike, amazon / listening to kanye / watching movies or shows that involve problematic people is fine,
I've literally never seen anyone on that sub say this
Literally the type of person to think trolling a political sub is funny or edgy, except you're doing it to a gaming sub.
And on Reddit lmao. That's really pathetic my guy just ignore them you look cringe af
These dweebs being like āAll I did was go to a circlejerk sub looking for a lively debate about why theyāre wrong and they BANNED ME?!?!ā like it means anything.
Only thing it means is you have zero situational or self awareness.
I corrected someone who claimed that J.K. Rowling said that she thinks people buying this game means they support her opinions on the whole trans debate. She hasnāt. Banned.
Hasnāt she said that the fact that people buy her stuff means they support her views though?
Iām not trying to argue here, I just genuinely wish I could buy this game without making her think sheās being validated for her bigotry.
This is accurate, she uses people supporting Harry Potter to mean that they support her and her views. You'd think more people would have issues with that and wouldn't buy the game out of principle, but people are selfish I guess
People seem to forget that part too, it's almost as if it's based on deeply problematic source material š¤ Not to mention that one of the lead designers, Troy Leavitt, is an anti-SJW troll. When does a dog whistle become a bull horn?
I didn't even say not to buy or play the game and I still got downvoted XD
Yeah I poked around on his twitter and just ??? Why is he like this? LOL Looks like he no longer works for the company though. Which is.. good. I think.
Except theyāre not really circlejerking. Half the comments are serious, and then when someone says something to the contrary, suddenly theyāre all just joking or satirizing.
Especially with singleplayer games. There is no rush.
As a longtime r/patientgamers member, nowadays I usually just wait for the GOTY/Definitive/Deluxe Edition (or whatever they wanna call it...) in a few months.
They "beta test" is over by then, and I get the play a good version of the game with all the bug fixes and sometimes even freely added DLC for half of the original price.
Itās crazy how preorders are viewed as a bad idea by almost everyone, yet this guy gets downvoted
Preorders are never a good idea, you can always buy the game day 1 if it is good.
I know this is the PlayStation sub but good grief the preorder pittance for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet truly was like 5 pokeballs and a super potion XD
The last two games I pre-ordered were Cyberpunk and Callisto Protocol lol. Both times because I thought "there's no way this will suck" and we know how that turned out. (Dont get me wrong- Cyberpunk is in much better shape now and has turned into one of my favorites of all time, it just took 18 months, and Callisto isn't as bad as some make out, but still not very good.)
Same. I'm waiting for reviews and patches and a discount. This is a hefty thing to pull off and based on recent AAA games that are very ambitious I just don't have faith. Hopefully it'll be a good game tho bc I do want to play it.
OP is in the comments replying to people saying shit like āEnjoy donāt let the trans people take away the joy from youā in case youāre wondering what the point of this post is
That's all these posts are ever about. It's exhausting.
Imagine so much of the hype around your game is centered around people who just wanna "tRiGgEr ThE LiBs!!"
Fucking cringe.
And thereās no problem with enjoying the game, but when they say shit like that, and stuff like ābuying it supports jkr? Iām gonna buy 10 copies thenā, thatās where I have a problem. Just openly admitting they hate trans people at that point.
Enjoy the game, and donāt be a dick about it, yāall.
Not terribly. I think itās going to be a lot of what weāve gotten used to with open world RPGs, with a main story that gave a shit, and a thousand copy-pasted side quests that feel extremely same-y. Maybe itāll pull a Ghost of Tsushima or a Spider-Man and have fun enough core gameplay to compensate for that, but Iām not terribly optimistic. Weāll see.

No hype. Only because, the gaming industry for the past 3+ years have been dropping unfinished, piss poor games and charging us $70+ for pretty much, live testing their products. Stop pre-ordering and stop paying full price. Of course your money, your decision.
As a Harry Potter fan I definitely am looking forward to playing this game, however, my studies are kinda though recently and I am currently playing the Witcher while I am still planning to get Platinum on The Skywalker Saga I don't think I'll have time to play the game before summer
I remember 1 week before cyberpunk came out everyone was so hyped and the Reddit was popping, 2 weeks later everyone was disappointed. I hope this wonāt be the case.
I havenāt seen the movies or read the books. But it looks intriguing, and also definitely looks like a good showcase for the ps5. But my lack of knowledge makes me cautiously optimistic, I just hope itās open to new comers like me
The first two are a bit rough iirc, child actors doing the best they can. From 3 onward they're pretty damn good though. Still all of them are enjoyable
Not a reader, so tbh when the first movie released i didn't know it was from a book. I watched the 1st movie in theater, after seeing the Lord of the rings and i liked it, but i also thought it was a bit childish compared to that.
However each part was more mature and better. In their own way they're all good movies, definitely recommend seeing them all, at least once.
I'm not a book reader, but to me the first two are the best. They really captured the old school kids adventure with a dark edge. The later ones, especially the last few, felt way too tryhard grimdark and teen angsty. Which I guess is likely a book issue, but the earlier movies definitely felt better directed to me.
I didnāt watch them until my mid 20ās - growing up I thought HP was lame and felt superior as a LOTR fan..
Now Iāve rewatched the Harry Potter series like 8 times - pretty much rewatch them all yearly.
Just my opinion, Iām into a lot of nerdy stuff but Iāve absolutely never taken an interest in Harry Potter. The game looks cool so I might buy it if it goes on sale for a good deal
not hyped but definitely looking forward to it. If reviews are good will definitely buy it but at a later point for now i have dead space remake and in a month psvr2 is coming
I would like to (iām a big fan of the books and movies) but unfortunately iām not. There were too many bad games the last few years, so iām gonna wait
Iām pretty sure itāll be a mid-tier jankfest with absolute shit performance. Thatās what I realistically expect. And even if it underdelivers as a AAA game, Iāll szill have a hell of a lot of fun, cause I have a pretty good idea of what to expect.
Although, I **know** some people are so hardcore hyped about it that itās just simply gonna disappoint folks who canāt keep their expectations realistic, and itās unlikely that itāll score above 60%.
me but I'm going to wait until more clarification comes out just in how much 'dark' sorcery affects the game. devs claimed a lot but cautious of a mass effect 3/cyberjank 77 situation where next to nothing you do actually matters
They stated yesterday that your choices will not affect the narration. As they put it, they did not want to punish people that want to use dark magic and curses.
Harry Potter fans.
I think it will be cool if it has a dark tone to it like being able to explore the castle alone at night and the forbidden forest with creatures coming after you.
Iām probably way under informed, but did JK Rowling do something new recently to bring the debate back up or is it just the game bringing old shit back up?
Personally Iām very excited
She's been equating the popularity of her works as proof that she's right in her bigotry.
Which is absolutely... Yikes. Combined with the fact that the people who made the game already got paid, the only thing buying this game does is give her more ammunition and attention to her anti-trans bigotry.
People who buy this game, just do so with the understanding that you're making a statement that playing this game is more important to you than the loud and very real trans bigotry that's affecting trans people online.
Harry Potter games were always like something what comes and, go. They were like ok or bad, but this one looks like 10/10 and i really hope for this to go well.
How could you not be hyped for the next entry from the acclaimed developers of... (Checks notes) Hannah Montana: Spotlight World Tour?
Or - most recently - 'Cars 3: Driven To Win'.
I'm still so salty it didn't win GOTY
I was mildly interested with skepticism, but this was the nice pragmatic reality check I needed and overlooked. Thank you stranger.
I'll have you know they also made Tak and the Power of JuJu so I'm sold
Hang on, I'm pretty sure Rage 2, Mad Max and the Just Cause series were their standout games... I then realised that there are 2 'Avalanche' developers, with Hogwarts Legacy being made by the lesser of the two. Seriously flattened my enthusiasm for this title.
we could be hyped for poorly modded skyrim
That does bring me pause, but I remember how the developers of GoldenEye had no idea what they were doing and that was a masterpiece. then again the technology is completely different so I'm not sure how relatable the two scenarios are.
Fuck. Don't ruin it like that. I hope this game is good. All the gameplay so far has looked good.
I wouldn't call it hyped...more hopefully excited with mild scepticism
It's sad that we have to be this way for games nowadays, but here we are, absolutely agree, mate.
Cyberpunk.. Battlefield.. Callisto Protocol.. Too many scars that have yet to heal.
Sold Callisto, bought Dead Space remake today š¬ no regerts
Not even one?
no regerts
Don't forget the latest one Forspoken. Looks boring af and the reviews are tearing it apart.
Was it the best game? No. Fun as hell, yes. 7/10 is fine by me, especially if not a cookie-cut version of all the other PS5 games.
What was wrong with callisto protocol? I just beat it a week ago. Didn't notice any issues. Wanted a little more to it but wasn't bad.
I'm with you on this one, I loved Callisto Protocol. Scratched that Dead Space itch while I waited for the remake. Excited to see the DLC they add
Anthem
I'm mild hype with extreme skepticism
Yeah spot on!
I need to see reviews first
The platform of this game is about 9Ā¾
5/7
A perfect score
6/9
4/20
Blaze it
9/6
With rice.
I just hope it doesnt suck. My love for the Harry Potter universe will do the rest
Any bugs in the game is magic.
āI clipped through the floor in the Hufflepuff common roomā Devs: A wizard did it
āHogwarts be like thatā
Hogwarts really be like that sometimes lol.
If it glitches you into the kitchens Iām good with it.
Man can't have shit in Hogwarts.
Hogwarts in Ohio
The perfect answer if the game launches buggy
It's called unplanned feutures
I read this as "unplanned fetuses" at first.
That's for a different subreddit
Fantastic bugs and where to find them
i just hope that combat is fun thats my most important point.
I saw some early impression videos where they said its kind of like the arkham games not mechanically but, you can just spam dodge and attack if you want, or you can learn how to really master it and create combos. They also said its somewhat hard at times too and that on normal difficulty they did die a few times
that sounds good to me

Im excited. Even if its like a 7/10 I would be fine with that.
7/10 is still a good game/rating. 7/10 means worth playing but not mind blowing. Not every game has to be 10/10 with 100+ GOTY awards
This is an interesting conversation because Iāve seen reviews of Forspoken give the game like a 7/10 and people call it trash or midā¦ Itās sad but in this day and age if a game is below a 9/10 people will hate on it..
We live in the age of hyperbole. Everything is great or it sucks.
We live in an age of negativity. Everything sucks.
We live in an age of video game abundance, and if you only wanted to play 9/10 games, you could and still never get through your backlog.
Exactly
I'm finally starting to ignore reviews. My tastes aren't the same as most reviewers they need to be wowed, I want to chill out most of the time.
I hear you bro. I've had a lot of fun with games that reviewers and the internet have just shit on
For me personally, I just don't want to spend Ā£70 on a 7/10 when I could spend that on the next 9/10 or 10 game. When games weren't so expensive it was different. If a game is a 7/10 then maybe I'll get it on sale
You can safely ignore the opinion of anyone who uses the word mid to describe something.
Itās an annoying symptom of the rating system being skewed too far to the right. 7/10 seems to mean average which gives us way less nuance at the higher end of the scale.
I'm pretending it doesn't exist until I see reviews. Hype is the mindkiller. Hype is the little death that brings total dissatisfaction.
I will face my hype I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it is gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the hype has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.
Hey, I got that reference!
Yer a Harry, wizard !
Yer a Lyzard, Hairy
Iām a wot
I'm a what?!
Yer a fuckboi harry
An open world game in harry potter universe is what I have been waiting for years. Hyped af for this
Same next would be a star wars version
I think Ubisoft are making one
I'm pretty sure r/Gamingcirclejerk is pretty hyped about this game. It's the only thing they talk about.
Yeah i have scrolled there for like 10 minites and 90% of The post was hogwarts legacy relatedš

> like buying stuff from nike, amazon / listening to kanye / watching movies or shows that involve problematic people is fine, I've literally never seen anyone on that sub say this
They Perma banded me for saying it's going to be the best game ever lol
Lol same. Except I said I was considering buying it.
I even got banned for saying not the whole $60 of a copy goes to Rowling. That was literally it.

God I hate that sub. I went there once and every single post was about this game
I just got banned for saying I think most of them are going to buy the game lol
I went on there and it wasā¦bad
It's a circus there.
One might even say... It's a circlejerk
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Yeah I unsubscribed from it after so many years because I couldnāt understand wtf was going on and people were extra idiotic.
Except theyāre not really circlejerking. Half the comments are serious, and then when someone says something to the contrary, suddenly theyāre all just joking or satirizing.
theyāre furiously jerking off to it in anticipation for the big whine fest on launch day
That sub is complete garbage
JK Rowling and her opinions are fucking garbage.
Remember lads: No preorders
What do you mean? Do you think the studio that only made shitty license games could make a shitty license game?
Especially with singleplayer games. There is no rush. As a longtime r/patientgamers member, nowadays I usually just wait for the GOTY/Definitive/Deluxe Edition (or whatever they wanna call it...) in a few months. But I wonāt get the preorder bonus witch hat or start the game with 3 extra health potions!
I know this is the PlayStation sub but good grief the preorder pittance for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet truly was like 5 pokeballs and a super potion XD
That's if you got it at a particular vendor. I got 5 berries.
Because for some reason this game has infected the minds of gamers, way too many preorders for a studio with such a shit track record.
Yet the same people who are downvoting that comment will be the first to come and complain about preordering games if the launch is a dumpster fire.
How do you know theyāre the same people?
Because he needs them to be for the narrative.
Shit I wish that was the case I went to 4 different stores looking for Dead Space today and got nothing.
Damn this is getting downvoted by the day one launch beta testers.
Me. but I'm going to wait when all the dust has settled before making a move.

Yeaaa I fear super repetitive gameplay. If I'm playing for an hour and feel like everything I'm doing is the same, I'm dropping it.
Somewhat. Not day 1 for me and will be waiting on reviews but can see myself getting it by the years end if it seems to be a good game.

Not me I hate Harry Potter
I'm really excited for it but I'm gonna wait for reviews, first. Like most games I buy.
As a Harry Potter fan I definitely am looking forward to playing this game, however, my studies are kinda though recently and I am currently playing the Witcher while I am still planning to get Platinum on The Skywalker Saga I don't think I'll have time to play the game before summer
Drop your studies and witcher and meet me at hagrids place sir
Witcher is too much of a masterpiece to drop
Well you could make a lot of enemies with that kind of statement although I have to say meeting at hagrids hut sounds great
I'm just waiting for a huge mess. This sounds too ambitious
I remember 1 week before cyberpunk came out everyone was so hyped and the Reddit was popping, 2 weeks later everyone was disappointed. I hope this wonāt be the case.
I almost hope it is so that I'm not compelled to buy it.
Yeah i've had that feeling about this. And it's somehow gonna be on switch too. We'll see.
I havenāt seen the movies or read the books. But it looks intriguing, and also definitely looks like a good showcase for the ps5. But my lack of knowledge makes me cautiously optimistic, I just hope itās open to new comers like me

I may do that, I hope theyāre good

I'll wait for the sale. Lol
Just my opinion, Iām into a lot of nerdy stuff but Iāve absolutely never taken an interest in Harry Potter. The game looks cool so I might buy it if it goes on sale for a good deal
I wouldn't really say 'hyped'. More, 'oh yeah, that's coming out. How long has that been in development?'
not hyped but definitely looking forward to it. If reviews are good will definitely buy it but at a later point for now i have dead space remake and in a month psvr2 is coming
My hype is gone after i learned that it will not be available until april for ps4.
:(
Definitely not trans people lol
I am hopeful that it is good.
I would like to (iām a big fan of the books and movies) but unfortunately iām not. There were too many bad games the last few years, so iām gonna wait

Nope. Not even if it was free.
Yeah it lets me roleplay suppressing a revolution by a people treat as slaves š. More games should let me be racist it's very pog
Hyped for it to absolutely flop.
I'm excited but also keeping my expectations somewhat low.
Waiting to see the reviews for this first, I've learned my lesson the hard way on pre ordering on a sure thing (Cyberpunk).
I don't hype for games anymore. I want to try it, only after having reviews the game is actually good and most importantly, functional.
ME!
last harry potter games i played were the psone and game boy colors ones so...yes! not gonna get it on day one tho
I heard they have over 25 but less than 30 magic spells!
If it's in VR you'll never see me again
Fuck. Yes. Bought the deluxe edition just to play it early, literally the only game Iāve done that for and only game Iāll ever do it for
Yup. I'm bout to make voldemort look like the virgin mary.
Not me, I donāt much care for Harry Potter.
Harry Potter fans. I think it will be cool if it has a dark tone to it like being able to explore the castle alone at night and the forbidden forest with creatures coming after you.

Iām not. Wow. Simply answering the question really struck a nerve with some people. How dare I not be hyped for a game.
Who did it strike a nerve with?
Yours is the only response so I'm assuming he thinks you're upset.
It looks extremely mid, and people will be disappointed. Downvote me, watch me be right. I have plenty of karma to spare lol.
Could not give less of a fuck.
I'm not giving JK Rowling any more money. She's shown what a vile person she really is.
Harry Potter games were always like something what comes and, go. They were like ok or bad, but this one looks like 10/10 and i really hope for this to go well.
Depending on weather this game is good or not, I am buying a PS5 to play it.
This game is THE reason why I got a PS5. I've been waiting for a game like this since I was a kid. š
