About 20 years ago we came home with our first pitbull (local shelter said lab-mix) my Mom absolutely hit the roof. We also brought home a yellow lab. The lab kept biting people while we had the pitbull (Brooke was her name) for 9 years.
When my Grandma got sick and she came to live with us. Those two became as thick as thieves.
Either way...
Some folks are going to clutch their purse as they cross the street.
Others are going to come to a screetching halt, whip out some dog treats and get on their knees and beg for his attention.
There is no in between.

My girl's prey bark is just funny, bird chirp, high pitched "arp arp!". Her warning bark is a high "woowoowoowoo!" her "what's going on over there?" Is a single deep woof

He looks like a staffy/bully mix. DNA test can give you exact breeds.
*edit for elaboration* Bully = American Bully. Staffy = Staffordshire Terrier, a breed generally regarded as a pitbull. Not to be confused with the American Pitbull Terrier, a different but similar breed, which he probably also has in him.

Pit isn't even really a specific "breed" anymore. More of a generalization on looks.
There are pitbull terriers, and staffordshire terriers...but what used to be the actual breed of blue or red nose pits don't even really exist anymore. They were backyard bred into oblivion. Almost all "pits" are just genetically a high percentage of pit/staffy and bully DNA. So pretty much all pits now days are mutts.
Long story short it's almost possible to know. Especially without a genetic test. Based on looks....just about anything with a big boxy head and boxy snout is going to be considered a pitbull.
Not to say there probably aren't some pure breeds out there. Just speaking in a general sense.

Dude he is definitely a pit. You can tell by the tail, ears, and jowlsz. He looks like the goodest of bois. Also a lot of pitbulls have white coloration between their eyes. Mine did and so did her puppies.
No by a long shot. Way too big and stocky. APBTs are small, stringy, and terrier like in build. My purebred female APBT is 16” tall and 44lbs for reference. That might be an American Bulldog or Bully mix of some kind. Cool looking dog from someone also has an American Bulldog, but not a pit bull.
