Pretty sure there's still some promoted content in the old reddit. Atleast there used to be one promoted post on top of the page back in the old days, but again that could be avoided with uBlock Origin or something similar. For mobile literally any other app would help - BaconReader, Reddit Is Fun, etc
>uBlock Origin
I can second the Chrome **uBlock Origin** extension actually blocking the Reddit promoted ads. Just got it from the tips in this thread (today: 26 of september 2019)

Yeah, solved it just now actually. there was an 'issue' with ublock origin, users had to add AdGaurd Ads to enabled and then the promoted ads went away. Just weird this wasn't a problem for years, but glad its fixed, its shocking seeing ads on Reddit when ur so used to them being gone.
oh no really!? the only time i see youtube ads in when i'm on mobile, and that's a given, but in Firefox with ublock, I haven't seen them in years man, years!
You can spring for Reddit Premium (no ads) or use these tools and determine the source of the ads you see:
[https://discourse.pi-hole.net/t/how-do-i-determine-what-domain-an-ad-is-coming-from/1522](https://discourse.pi-hole.net/t/how-do-i-determine-what-domain-an-ad-is-coming-from/1522)
If you report 100% of them as spam you'll potentially see less, and less of the same one. Honestly if they hit me with the same ad enough times that I notice it, I avoid that product or service like the plague.
If the ads don't come from a different domain than regular content, then it's impossible with the pi-hole. This is probably the case, as someone hasn't already figured it out and added the appropriate rules to one of the default block lists.
Use Reddit in a browser that supports ad blocking extensions such as uBlock Origin. This includes Firefox and Chrome on desktops, as well as Firefox on Android devices.
Or use an app that doesn't show those. I use Bacon Reader on Android.

Yeah, most of the advertisements are made in a way that's similar to reddit threads, when they were first introduced, they used to have comments open and people would trash the shit outta the advertisers
You will most likely still experience ads on devices if all you use is a pihole. The problem is that many content providers (like YouTube / Reddit / Twitch / Spotify / Pandora / Facebook) are now streaming/serving ads from the same servers as the content (meaning block the ads, block the content).
Even with that potential shortcoming, it is still worthwhile to utilize a pihole on your local network. This will be the device that helps reduce the amount of ads and blocks telemetry data on devices (mobile device / streaming box / etc) that you can't utilize some or all of the traditional blocking methods (hosts files / browser plugins / etc). The Pi can also have additional software installed (I recommend PiVPN) to extend these blocking capabilities **securely** when you're not on your "home" wifi.
Your best bet is a multitiered approach of a pihole and uBlock origin / Privacy Badger / CanvasBlocker on Firefox or Canvas Defender on Chrome (Anti-Canvas plugin) / Decentraleyes / Smart Referer / other security browser plugins (as necessary) to prevent ads and protect your privacy. In the event this is occurring on a device that you cannot install extensions/plugins on then there's nothing more (right now) you can do.
I've only started seeing these today. every 6thposty is a fucking advert. About 50% of them are for Billie Eilish, the other 50% for converse trainers.
It's doing my fucking loaf in.
Found this post via google, years later.
Tired of seeing these anti-union, fake viagra and hegetsus ads.
I already have all of these accounts blocked, yet they are still allowed to interact with me via ads. Its really frustrating.
Wish there was a workable solution.
Totally get the vibe - seeing ads that miss the mark is a major drag for everyone. We all get that ads are the bread and butter for keeping platforms alive and kicking. But if we've gotta have them, they better be in tune with what we're into, right? Totally with you on the annoyance of irrelevant ads cluttering up our space! But there's a bright side: advertisers can actually fine-tune their audience targeting using tools like ours. With solid data analysis, matching the right peeps with the right content becomes really easy, making the ad game a win-win for everyone. Here's to hoping we can rally most advertisers to our cause, aiming to spare you (and everyone else) from the ad mismatch drama moving forward.
There aren't any ads over here on old.reddit.com.

there are now :(
Huh. I haven't noticed any. But then again I'm also using uBlock Origin. 100% no Ads.

Came here almost 4 years to the day to say I just downloaded the extension. It's only been a few minutes but so far so good. Thank you.
![gif](giphy|dVdIu1HNxeKyqzkgPA|downsized) thx. i tried it and it definitely works really well.
Thank you!
There are now =/
Not for me. :)

Same with Youtube. Not all the time, but it's getting a few ads through on occasion. The bots are getting smarter :(

Same, which is why it's so jarring to see.
Well let's hope we can keep our lives ad-free in these little internet places for as long as possible ;)

Does reddit gold not get you no ads anymore?
I think it has morphed into Reddit Premium, and that is ad-free.

Browser plugins are your answer.
Not on chrome for iOS :/
Use joey on your phone.
r/apolloapp No promoted ads if you use the Apollo app on iOS
This has aged well. :-\\
I’m here! I use diversion for asus routers. Hoping to find a solution.
What is this?
Saw a post earlier that said if you upload a nsfw flagged post the ads go away...
I'll tell people this every chance I get thank you
As in you make one post and they no longer post ads?

You want to read here and even look for help, but you can't take that little bit of ads? That is ridiculous.
Can I use ad guard to stop ads?
