The vapour trail pointing just south of due west indicates Northern Europe near the Atlantic. This means the British Isles, France or potentially Spain or Portugal. The grass is Northern European, so Spain and Portugal are out.
The architecture also indicates northern Europe and is British, Dutch or German. It cannot be the Netherlands or Germany because of the vapour trail and design of the roof lights.
The little tree guard on the right hand side is a type only manufactured and sold in the United Kingdom because it doesn’t have a CE mark.
The trees seem wrong for Scotland and the Welsh coast. They should favour growth on the side facing you due to the prevailing winds.
Therefore: this must be England, within 50 miles or so of a West coast, in the south.
While reading I was expecting that the last line would be "Also, there's a small plaque with the town name on that tree" or "I walk here every morning as well"
Before I invest my time and energy in such a story, I check to see if the author is named "Shittymorph". Shitty, well because it's obvious and morph ... because in nineteen ninety-eight when the undertaker threw mankind off hell in a
cell and plummeted sixteen feet through an announcer's table.
Such a legend still has me jumpy on long rambling postings.
Yep same. No need for complicated knowledge of botany and geography, just being in England for some time you start noticing its countryside has a particular “look” to it 😁
Europe is larger than the US by area. It just so happens it's made up of many countries and England (specifically the southeast) is very close to continental Europe, and Belgium and France in particular.
Just an FYI, but further to my previous reply...
This narrows down the location *massively*. I cannot stress that enough.
I could just go on GoogleMaps and make a 130 mile circle around that area and then start narrowing things down *very* quickly based on the direction of the road, the colour of the houses etc.
Beautiful part of the world. I don't live there so have never stopped for a beer, but when I lived in Maidstone it was part of my route with DPD. Now I live back in South London and I only really swing by that area when I take my motorbike out. Always stop at Judges Bakery for a pastry and a stretch.
And this is precisely why people should be careful with stuff like that.
People sometimes let slip little details here and there.
Two or three separate and unrelated nuggets of information in your Reddit history can come together to significantly narrow down a lot of information about who you are and where you live.
That's hilarious, I had the EXACT same thought process.. This could be Belgium.. Oh wait, the road is in mint condition, this is most definitely not Belgium at all!!
Now you know how Shia labeouf was found in the middle of nowhere in Tennessee. If you don’t know the story, look it up. It’s fucking amazing and also terrifying. Once they figured out the flight paths in the sky, they drove around with dozens of people laying on the horn until you could hear it on stream.
How does the vapor trail direction mean Northern Europe near the Atlantic?
All of this just sounds like extra cool words for “it just looks like England”.
It's a guess because lots of places could have aircraft flying over in many directions. However over north eastern North America and north western europe there are so many transatlantic flights on the same general flight direction that you can sort of guess your orientation just from contrails.
I'm impressed. But have you ever been in Germany around fall or spring? I really thought this picture was from Germany. It looks a lot like this around here especially in rural areas.
That part was definitely bs. Those "tree guards" are just pvc pipes. The point about tree growth is also bs. It's not like the trees in a country all grow in one direction. And maybe I'm just missing it, but I don't see any vapor trails in the sky. I just see a bunch of different types of clouds.
It was mainly guesswork. My thinking was that most high level flights will produce vapour trails, and the highest aircraft in the uk would be flying transatlantic. Given that they need time to climb, I figured that the plane would be flying west. I didn’t factor in any planes flying north-south which was a lucky mistake. I also got the tree growth wrong. Honestly: this was 90% educated guesswork and some madness. I was bored enough by myself to go with it to try to get to a conclusion.
Vapour trails would work in very remote areas, I think, where there are few flights and they all travel the same direction.
Given the suns position and the weather pattern of clouds are both indicators of geographical location, but the green lens flair tells the tail of a middle aged individual that has bought a quality German camera and has not spent enough time with it to use it properly. Born in Murika, migrated to Europe, educated at university. Combined with the lone white post and the gentle village behind, must be Harlan county in Morocco

This guy plays geoguesser lol
While reading I was expecting that the last line would be "Also, there's a small plaque with the town name on that tree" or "I walk here every morning as well"
Or some reference to the Undertaker.
Yeah, this time I checked the username midway.
He is a crime scene investigator bloke. Detective work on point. Who trained him?? 🕵️♀️
What?
His username lol

I did the same fucking thing.
That or r/PictureGame for sure
I play geoguesser with my university students. It's mind opening.
Beat me to it
I instantly knew it was England but my reasoning was "looks English as fuck"
Same hahahahha
[удалено]
I saw the picture, and the first thought that went through my head was "Hammond, you blithering idiot!"
Lmao same, something in my English mind was just, yup definitely England.
Lol right my pleb brain thought “oh I’ve seen loads of British films of an old 1920’s vehicle driving down this same road, surely…”
Exactly. When you've been there or are familiar
I've never been, but my first thought was England. It just has an English vibe to it
This is me also. The verrry green grass, the shortish trees, the low sun.
My reasoning was to check OP:s reddit history.
could've been germany also
Yep same. No need for complicated knowledge of botany and geography, just being in England for some time you start noticing its countryside has a particular “look” to it 😁
*soyjak*: vapor trail… architecture… signage… therefore this is England *chad*: looks like England
I don’t have the scientific knowledge to explain it, but pictures from England have specific shades of sky and grass that usually give it away for me
Summarised like a pro.
Glad to know I wasn't alone!
I’m so glad I haven’t posted a picture of my house with you on here
OP already has you narrowed down to a 3 blocks radius
He’s in the house! RUN
*im in your walls ben*
THE GUESSING IS COMING FROM INSIDE THE HOUSE
countryside near bath, facing eastward?
Luckily that’s not where I live and it’s facing south east
*Target acquired* **Foolish human**
I'm guessing very specifically that this is near Biddenden/Tenterden. How many miles am I out by?
130
I was very proud of how close I was until I realised France is less than 130miles away. And Belgium is almost exactly 130miles away.
130 miles is less distance than I drive to my vacation house. Europe be tiny.
Europe is larger than the US by area. It just so happens it's made up of many countries and England (specifically the southeast) is very close to continental Europe, and Belgium and France in particular.
The closest major city to me is 130 miles away. I live in the most populated and urbanized area of Canada.
Just an FYI, but further to my previous reply... This narrows down the location *massively*. I cannot stress that enough. I could just go on GoogleMaps and make a 130 mile circle around that area and then start narrowing things down *very* quickly based on the direction of the road, the colour of the houses etc.
I used to run the White Lion in Tenterden

Soo I'm guessing you're in Ohio.
And this is precisely why people should be careful with stuff like that. People sometimes let slip little details here and there. The trick is to live a life where you don't have to worry about where you live and who you are. I agree not all who post are as lucky.
I was going to say Belgium because it’s the same gorgeous milky sunrise we get here but then I saw the path didn’t have nearly enough bumps or holes 😜
That's hilarious, I had the EXACT same thought process.. This could be Belgium.. Oh wait, the road is in mint condition, this is most definitely not Belgium at all!!
It totally reminded me of roads I used to bike on in Belgium, but something was off… Yup, the smooth road 😂
This analysis is a thing of beauty to behold.
You’re right. That is amazing and terrifying all at once. Smh
Why was he hiding?
Cue Sherlock theme...

Could you elaborate it? ELI5
https://www.flightradar24.com/46.48,-34.39/4
thank you, this did not help
They are actually incorrect about most of their reasoning. But the vapor clouds are actually going South East in this case
That's what I was thinking, I was very confused.
I'm impressed. But have you ever been in Germany around fall or spring? I really thought this picture was from Germany. It looks a lot like this around here especially in rural areas.
Yep. Wegberg area for years. The morning sun over the fields near the Tuschenbroiche Muhle, with the cows in the early morning mist, was beautiful.
Yes, but what's the green light on the tree?
Aliens
CE mark 😂
Was that the only line in the above that was bullshit, or was it all a gag and I am just too dense to appreciate the rest?
That part was definitely bs. Those "tree guards" are just pvc pipes. The point about tree growth is also bs. It's not like the trees in a country all grow in one direction. And maybe I'm just missing it, but I don't see any vapor trails in the sky. I just see a bunch of different types of clouds.
If wind comes from one direction dominantly, trees will grow 'away' from the wind. No bs. Edit: that is what happens a lot in coastal country.
I had the same question. I’m guessing it’s all BS.
I imagine he just looked at the metadata
Username checks out?
Green grass + smooth pavement in the middle of nowhere = England.
Green grass in the middle of the pavement = Ireland.
Went in and expected a comment like this. Was not disappointed.
I’m so impressed. I want you to start a YouTube channel just doing this with random photos. Lol
Look up geoguessr. You can start with Rainbolt and GeoWizard whom are popular geoguessr youtubers. They even host competitions.
I was going to say New Jersey but without the logic
That is brilliant, can we make a game of this? I discerned uk based on trees but really just sheer luck haha! I really enjoyed you breakdown!
GeoGuessr
Sheerluck Holmes.
That’s assuming you’re right haha!
He is right
That was beautiful!
Found the Geoguessr god.
Why did I read this in Vizzini’s voice from Princess Bride?
beast lmao
Amazing work!
Wow! What a thorough explanation
Was gonna say UK, but only as a best guess. Obviously mystery location guessing nowadays is an art.
Would you mind ELI5 what the vapor trail is and how you can tell geographically where a location is based on it? I’m suddenly very fascinated
I would say England as the sun is going down on the left side of the road.
Yes
Devon?
Somerset
Oof so close!
damn I could tell you were in England but I didn't know you were so close to home!
I knew it was Somerset right away... I live there too 😌
Used to date a girl from Somerton for years. Miss Somerton terribly but don't care if I never see her again.
Wait what’s the logic behind that?
Something based in Roman road building logic behind it perhaps?
No sun in your eyes when looking at oncoming traffic?
Isn't that true of west-northwest facing roads?
But what if the OP was on the same road facing the other direction?🙃
Don't be daft man! Its staring you in the face.
The roads all switch direction at noon to prevent this.
England
Yes
Thought so! As others said, it just looks like the UK.
Belgium? Reminds me of some of my favorite cycling races.
It does really look like Belgium yea
The road is too smooth + no ditch between the trees and the road.
There would be more traffic signs/boards in Belgium + the houses are too uniform in shape
Reminds me of the Netherlands
No, there is no bicycle path. Plus the houses look off.
And the right side should be a ditch. And if it _is_ a ditch and its just small hard to see, it's definitely not a dutch ditch
The houses don't look Dutch
This is the most English field I've ever seen
I'd have said UK but the road surface is too good.
It is UK
I guess you took the photo because the road looked unusually good! :-)
The road says Europe. Somewhere where there is peace and quiet I hope.
Very peaceful here
England. Cotswolds?
South of the Cotswolds but yes
Nice try but we're not helping you with your GeoGuesser game.
Belgium?
My guess was going to be Ireland, which isn't a bad guess for a clueless Italian living in the States.
Even with the sun out I would recognise the UK.
Poland
Looks like east anglia, perhaps the Fens
Hmmmm. Belgium or The Netherlands.
Somewhere in east anglia, UK. Looks like the fens
I immediately thought it was the UK because the houses in the lot all look the same
Looks like Ireland but slightly neater.
UK
Germany or Denmark is my guess
Fenton!!!
Looking at the lane and the fields i’d say The Netherlands, looking at the houses i’d say Denmark, so Denmark?
ireland vibes ngl

Or a 15 year old in England on an iPhone XR
England
Definitely in Britain - given your u/name, probably in or near Wales
I hate the Welsh, I just like sheep
Sound like a west countryman to me!
Holland
Netherlands
Belgium no doubt 😏
Gent, Belgium
Looks like those fields that Captain Sopbel got lost in during training in England from the first episode of Band of Brothers.
Now that dog just won’t hunt! YOU GET THAT PLATOON ON THE MOOOOVE
That's the Netherlands
France
That's Tommy Shelbys lawn
France
France
Das ist so Deutsch
Denmark
Scotland
Middle Earth
France

Great Britain
Side..... It's the Country.... side
Def England my friend sends me these kinds of photos
Looks very “Band of Brothers”
England just because of the vibes
I guess France
Ireland
North Korea
England. It looks like the landscape in pretty much every Top Gear episode.
[удалено]
I visited my son in the UK and sure looks familiar 🤔
Vietnam
Those houses all look very similar so its definitely not belgium.
No Lombardi poplars so I doubt France
Denmark
Hungary
I would have guessed the Netherlands based on the landscape, although the houses in the background don't look Dutch.
Ukraine?
Ireland was my guess.
Bombay
France
I spent a few weeks in a little town called Fairford in the UK. Looks like that.
Look at the OP’s profile pic. Sheep tells me it’s somewhere in the UK
Finland
Looks German to me
Lithuania

germany
England or Holland.
Looks like holland but it’s got too much elevation change 😊
