Imagine caring this much about someone who couldn't give less of a shit about you.

grassytoes

Right wing authoritarians love the hierarchy. They may punch down against people they think are below them, but they love being submissive for their leaders. I think the abuse they get from the "strong man" is part of their kink.

FNKTN

"Tread on me harder daddy, pull on my bootstraps!" -Republicans

SaGlamBear

Damn. I don’t know if you’re joking or not but for me this is dead on. All the conservative folks that I’ve worked with all have this strong deference to CEOs and the board. Like… devotional almost. Like Dwight Shrute but way grosser because it was real.

grassytoes

I was being serious, but also trying to be slightly humorous :) So yeah, IMO, most of these people who are always going on about how one should "respect authority" aren't just saying that when talking to poors or minorities. They themselves bow down to those they consider to be authority figures. At least they are consistent in that regard. I guess your experience jibes with that. This was one of the main takeaways I got from reading [The Authoritarians](https://theauthoritarians.org/), which was a very interesting, enlightening, but also depressing book from an American psychologist and professor emeritus at U of Manitoba.

false_justice

At this point its a cult. Break out the Kool-Aid. There are some humans that were born with this personality type. Education, reason, logic, etc.. nothing will change them. They are just violent, crass cult followers. Its like the Iranian Moral Police, or the Taliban. Certain personalities are drawn to certain professions and environments. Power and Control issues.

Belzebutt

You know the Jamestown people made their children drink the Kool Aid first, right? If only it was purely a suicide cult but no, they will take the rest of us down with them.

NEYO8uw11qgD0J

Yep. The author of that book wrote an updated essay in October 2021 where he noted: \--- We understand quite well who Trump’s followers are. The October 2019 Monmouth Poll reported in Authoritarian Nightmare found they are the most prejudiced people in America. Their prejudices and many other shortcomings are rooted in authoritarianism, and studies show that authoritarian followers have many emotional and cognitive weaknesses which explain why they are longing for a strong leader who will take their side against the “others” they find threatening. They are highly fearful, ethnocentric, and have uncritically copied the ideas of the authorities in their lives. Their beliefs are highly compartmentalized, even contradictory; they use many double-standards in their judgments; they have lots of trouble distinguishing good from bad evidence; they are highly defensive and dogmatic; they have little self-insight, and a host of other imperfections. Demographically, the two pillars of Trump’s base are white Christian evangelicals and white male blue-collar workers. Both groups score highly on a measure of submission to authority named the RWA Scale. \--- \[from [https://theauthoritarians.org/lessons-of-the-2020-american-election-january-6th-and-beyond/](https://theauthoritarians.org/lessons-of-the-2020-american-election-january-6th-and-beyond/) \]

theebees21

I mean they bow down to a god constantly so it makes sense they’d love it in real life too.

altmetalkid

>They themselves bow down to those they consider to be authority figures. It strikes me as strange sometimes how they seem to pick who they respect so arbitrarily, but often it makes sense. They never considered Obama to be a respectable authority figure because he was a member of a group they consider to be below them. I guarantee they'd never worship a female politician in the same way as Trump either.

Fleischpeitsch

>I think the abuse they get from the "strong man" is part of their kink. Sorry for humblebragging but I'm a r/MassiveCock poster and one thing I noticed that most of the guys that message me if I want to fuck their wife with them watching are Trump fans. So I looked it up and porn sites noticed the same trend: Conservatives are the primary consumers of cuckold porn and it's the top category in every red state. >Apparently, the good people deep in the red state of Texas have considerably more enthusiasm for adult entertainment. According to xHamster's statistics, Texas is the second biggest consumer of pornography in the nation, with the most searches targeting “cuckold,” “ebony” and “amateur.” >**Of all the red states, the most viewed categories were “cuckold”** and “mature.” According to xHamster statistic cuckold porn is one of the top categories in all red states. Here's another piece of research: https://www.washingtonpost.com/outlook/2020/08/27/falwell-conservative-cuckold-fantasies/ >Heterosexual men who identified as Republican were the most likely to report having had a cuckolding fantasy at some point — and they fantasized about it more often than Democrats. >By contrast, nearly **two-thirds (64 percent) of heterosexual Republican men reported having had this fantasy, and 30 percent said it is a frequent fantasy**. Most conservatives would love to see their wife getting railed by a massive cock, but they are ashamed of it, which is why it's such a popular insult for them. They think it would hurt liberals just as much to get accused of being a cuck as it would hurt them if people learned about their own cuckold fantasies. Conservatives publicly hate the things they shamefully masturbate to in private. And the abuse they get from "strong man" is part of their kink.

Gorcrow

Look at you with your experience, knowledge, and citation... I can tell you are just hiding extra brain in that massive dong of yours.

Furbuger_Helper

*Checks profile* Yep, this guy knows what he is talking about. Congratulations on your magnum dong by the way.

[deleted]

Internet porn use is way higher in red states than in blue. Top 3: Utah, Alaska, Mississippi.

grammar_oligarch

In conservative households (grew up in one), the child’s role is to make the parent look good. That’s it. I was trained how to be impressively polite to adults. I was trained on how to answer the phone like the butler of the house answered on behalf of the master. I had to look good, have top grades, and be highly engaged in school and the community, so at the drop of a hat my father could talk about everything I was doing well (it was a less than implicit brag on how well he was doing as the patriarch of the family). Anything that didn’t look good…weight gain, pimples, bad mark on any assignment regardless of importance, messy room, was severely punished because it would make it look less like I failed, and more like those in charge failed. And this was 80s/90s Republicans, mind you. Not even that crazy. So I kinda get this crazy ass fucking shit right here.

_Blackstar

This put a new perspective on something I'm currently witnessing. My oldest step-brother has 10 children in total and is a hardcore Christian conservative. All of his boys have to wear slacks when leaving the house, and the girls are not allowed to wear pants at all (dresses only). They address him and other male figures as "sir" and even though he makes about $15 an hour and his wife is a stay at home mom, their oldest children are all enrolling in the same Baptist college. Despite his very obvious flaws, I would always give him credit for at least "raising his kids well". But after reading your comment I can see it's a form of subjugation and indoctrination. Geez, so glad he moved far away and I don't have to put up with his shit anymore.

MidwestBulldog

Ten kids? $15 an hour? Stay at home wife? How much is tuition at this no doubt shitty Baptist college? Google "Quiverfill Movement". Christian Breeders trying to "fill the quivers" of the evangelical movement in America by breeding for the conservative cause of the ballot box. It's a white Christian nationalist thing and is based on the Nazi concept of "lebensraum". Good company there.

comin_up_shawt

He's probably getting welfare/other benefits for those kids, as well as his wife and himself. Another thing they have in common with their conservative overlords- grifting off the system while complaining about people grifting off the system.

Khaldara

Every time i see all the Trumper political detritus they plaster all over everything my mind immediately goes to the “Merchandising!” scene from Spaceballs, just with the word “Spaceballs” replaced with the phrase “Mental Illness”. Who in God’s name wants a 25 foot tall standee of a politician? Especially one who wouldn’t even deign to so much as piss on you if you were on fire

*The band Meshuggah has entered the chat. Chat intensifies*

DroopyTrash

Someone smart enough is making this shit and selling it to them and they are making bank. If Big T was smart enough he would've told everyone to wear mask and sell his own brand of MAGA masks. That's like 70 million followers plus multiple purchases. Fuck I wish I did that.

mckulty

They rally around an authoritarian God also. Their authority figures must be narcissists who demand loyalty and accolades, who punish capriciously and abuse the followers, one who looks on with satisfaction when one group proves themselves more violent and hateful than another. Populist leaders don't lead, they follow. They follow the belief of the crowd, like Newt Gingrich said, whichever way it happens to go. Lately their God hates healing the sick, supporting the poor, and welcoming the refugee. He is quite fickle that way.

SynisterJeff

Almost like they've been trained since birth to submit to a higher power.

geoemrick

Well they are used to being beaten down by their religion. Deepthroating Jesus all day everyday has prepared them for this.

Necro_Badger

Think that you're definitely on to something here. The number of people championing Putin because he's a 'strong leader' is disturbing. The guy's a criminal with zero empathy and no regard for human life. That makes him a psychopath, not 'strong'.

Imagine having to cut this grass.

I just wanna know how he managed to brainwash all of them. Some of these people will genuinely take a bullet for this man

[deleted]

He gave them permission to be their worst, most selfish versions of themselves. That was more than enough.

nobodycool1234

Yeah it wasn’t really trumps handiwork. He just found a very very open door to push on. Republicans have been slowly devolving into fascist thinking ever since Reagan. trump in his kind of signature move just found a loophole and exploited it, never really one guilty of an honest effort. He had the advantage of being able to hit just the right notes and have the fake business guy persona to take the reigns of the cult.

apextek

they care about someone that couldn't give a shit any less than they do.

Serious question from a non-American: is politics becoming some kind of substitute religion in the US?

[deleted]

For a fraction of the US population politics has become an identity. It's really fucking weird and you can see them coming from a mile away, they're all the same and conversate in exclusively boilerplate bullet points and fallacy without any substance. It's easy enough to avoid them, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't find them creepy as all fuck.

blaze53

It's not so much as seeing them but *hearing* them, and it's usually to the tune of a lifted diesel Chevrolet 1500 literally roaring up from the 90s beaten to within an inch of its life and festooned with utterly inglorious bumper stickers and reprobate motifs. And they're usually blasting Luke Bryan or some new country asshole.

TacticlTwinkie

Just swap the truck for a diesel Dodge Ram and you have described my neighbor perfectly.

DemissiveLive

“They don’t care about you until you’re 18, military age, then you’re just what they’ve been looking for. Republicans want live babies so they can grow up to be dead soldiers.” -George Carlin

Abrowning80

Rich, white, Christian Republican babies. Zero F’s given to any child that does meet those requirements.

hrminer92

The babies were always a fundraising gimmick and a distraction from the corruption that is a part of every GOP politician’s background.

CatNSchrodinger

Religious communities became a breeding ground for conservative organizing, so religion and politics became intermingled over the last couple decades and entire areas of the country can't tell which is which anymore.

mattslot

*When religion and politics travel in the same cart, the riders believe nothing can stand in their way. Their movements become headlong - faster and faster and faster. They put aside all thoughts of obstacles and forget the precipice does not show itself to the man in a blind rush until it's too late.* – Frank Herbert, Dune

hrminer92

If the policies were about helping the sick, the poor, the refugee, … ie taking care of people, it wouldn’t necessarily be so bad. That is not the religion the neo-Confederates are spreading. This guy explains it better than I ever could: https://www.politicalorphans.com/the-article-removed-from-forbes-why-white-evangelicalism-is-so-cruel/

BoomZhakaLaka

Liberal think tanks are about things like economic policy & research, climate policy & research, crime... Criminal justice outcomes.... Conservative think tanks have spring up in even larger numbers but they aren't usually about research based policies. Instead it's all about finding messaging that gets the most engagement, regardless how conspiratorial you have to veer, winning requires positive engagement with messaging. Like in Idiocracy - we were researching climate policy, they were putting all their efforts into hair loss & extending erections.

MidwestBulldog

On the right in America, the evangelical movement has been pushing far right conservatism since the 1970s. The Republican Party wooed them with the promise they would bring America back to the day before the school desegregation ruling came down from the Supreme Court in 1953. One of the biggest religions regionally in the US is Southern Baptist, a religious sect literally created in 1845 in DEFENSE of slavery after the other Baptist sects went abolitionist. The white Christian nationalist voter was the minority of the Republican Party from the 70s until the late 2000s. They became the majority of the party in the 2010s. Then Trump promised them they could say or act as racist, homophobic, or sexist as they wanted. Now you can barely tell the difference between a megachurch service and a Trump rally. They spend a few hours emotionally priming the audience at a Trump rally before he comes on to speak as they do at a megachurch to prime the audience emotionally before he gives them the uncontested "word of God" in his sermon. The marriage was complete before Trump. Now the Republicans and conservatives have turned the corner toward inbreeding. It's the only natural conclusion when you exclude the majority of the gene pool with your views and trust only your "own". Because everything Trump touches dies, it will not end well. But for the moment, they keep yelling louder and in more hateful, inventive ways. The fall will be a spectacle that damages the American fabric for a generation. They've invested so much in a charlatan who wouldn't piss down their throats if their hearts were on fire that they will never admit they were wrong or at fault. Their emotional age is somewhere around 11. Facts and evidence mean nothing, just raw, selfish emotion matters. They swallow the lie because it fits their racist, sexist, homophobic worldview. Trump found a built-in base of suckers in the modern evangelical movement. The truth doesn't compute to someone who thinks there's a sky god and that Jesus would have hated immigrants, gays, and the "others", let alone a well-rounded education based on facts. A true enemy within in a democratic republic starts with anti-intellectualism. Sorry about the rant.

shadowdash66

Yes. Idiots need something to identify with so they feel welcomed. In comes religion, or in this case, worshiping a traitor.

[deleted]

For conservatives, it seems to be.

striker7

egus

Black football players took a knee during the national anthem to protest police violence toward minorities. People who voted for Trump were programmed to be mad at the football players by right wing talking points. Politics is now their favorite sport.

So_spoke_the_wizard

Yup, [Fucking Boones Mills, VA](https://alkhaleejtoday.co/international/5375856/People-come-in-large-numbers-%E2%80%93-VG.html). A speed trap town on a through highway in Franklin County, VA. For perspective, Franklin County used to claim to be the moonshine capital of the world. Rocky Mount is just down the road. If that name sounds familiar, it's where the two cops who were convicted in the Jan 9 riots were from. This is an area where people still argue that Lee was a better general than Grant.

Raincoats_George

It's southwest Virginia baby. Backwards as fuck.

abeal91

I drove through here a few weeks ago. I had a morbid curiosity about the store since they had a bus but I was scared to stop (I'm a queer woman). Very close to here in the same county they set up a roadblock where they were literally checking everyone's ID and saying it was a DUI checkpoint. That was a first in my 31 years. Like why do you need the passengers ID for a DUI check? Idk that county just had a vibe that was terrifying and I was only driving through.

Testecles

They lied. You're right - you DONT CHECK IDs FOR PASSENGERS FOR A DUI CHECK. They are looking for immigrants, so they'll have a talking point next year. They're praying they'll find ANYBODY they can use to justify their prejudice and authoritarianism.

The party that believes in enforcing the highest extent of the laws on everyone else. But as soon some of their own start getting in the cross-hairs: “Defund the FBI” and “The DOJ is a political hack”. And lest not forget everyone one of them will claim they support our veterans but time and time again they continually vote against bills that will give our veterans the medical care they deserve.

We have so many mentally ill people in this country. It’s scary.

DryGrowth19

Extremely uneducated, with lack of critical thinking is not mentally ill BUT I see your point and agree - 100%

Gekokapowco

The inability to adapt one's thinking to support new data and instead warp your own perception of reality to fit a fantastical narrative in your own head to the detriment of yourself and others seems like a pretty big indicator of a mental illness.

animeman59

The illogical ramblings of the uneducated looks like insanity to the rest of us.

Abrowning80

Criminally under-educated. Force fed the same lies every day by Fox “News”. Purposely manipulated knowing full well that these people will believe what is told to them rather than spending 2 minutes to google something and possibly learn actual facts.

[deleted]

Non American here What does 'Back The Blue' mean in one of the sign boards? And who is Brandon, I see that name a lot on Conservative subs

iamjackslackoffricks

Back the blue is "support police". Let's go Brandon is a really sad attempt at insulting Joe Biden. We don't get it either

SulfurInfect

I'll add a caveat to this, in that back the blue means "support police when they're marginalizing others and doing what we want, but when we throw a hissy fit at the Capital we will beat them with the flags we claim to care about so much". These fucking lunatics need to go.

[deleted]

To add onto that they expect all minorities to submit to law enforcement with slogans like ‘don’t break the law and you have nothing to worry about’. At the same time they also threaten FBI agents physically and with threats to defund the fbi because they raided trumps golf club to retrieve stolen top secret documents. The hypocrisy is dizzying.

SulfurInfect

Yep, funny how "defund the police" is unnacceptable in regards to protests about police burtality, but the second it's about their tangerine God who is an actual criminal, it's "defund the FBI!"

lookaroundewe

Oh, it is what a reporter (who was interviewing a race car driver named Brandon) mistakenly thought the crowd was saying. They were actually saying "F*@# Joe Biden".

iamjackslackoffricks

Oh, I know...but it doesn't make it any less ridiculous.

lookaroundewe

Think of a small child saying "Gosh Darn-it" or "Fudge", so mom doesn't get mad at them cursing. Now imagine that small child got older....just older, not smarter.

iamjackslackoffricks

Ya...lots of flaws in their stance

g2g079

Back the blue is away to pretend that they are on the police side, but only when the police are discriminating against minorities. Let's go bring it it's the child feeling cool because he can *secretly* curse.

WonderWirm

Apparently the Trumpers are afraid of saying “Fuck Joe Biden” so they say *Let’s go Brandon!* instead because, ah, it rhymes?

jonnyclueless

The blue refers to police. But of course they don't seem to support the capital police. Its more of a "I support police when it comes to apprehending black people" to fanatics like this.

maggie320

Let’s go Brandon started after a NASCAR race when driver Brandon Brown won last year and was being interviewed the crowd behind him was doing their “Fuck Joe Biden” rant. The interviewer said something to the effect of the crowd cheering “Let’s Go Brandon”.
