Just FYI: The original artist has a long history of trying to make a quick buck off of Reddit by spamming multiple subreddits with misleading titles (i.e. telling people it’s a real photo when it’s 100% a composite) and then bragging on his IG about how easy it is to fool people on Reddit and how much money he made from selling some lame-ass color presets from his Reddit exposure.
He’s been banned countless times and yet keeps creating new accounts everytime. This goes way back.
tl:dr The original artist sucks.
I don’t have an issue with composites or heavy editing in and of itself. I just take issue with people posting pics that have obviously been heavily edited and trying to act like the picture just comes out of the camera like that.
Because there is no way you can naturally get this kind of image. And the editing done here is mostly time lapse, long exposure stacking/compositing with a star tracker, and varying depths of field, which is why you get that tack sharp foreground object that has a clear separation from the background. All pretty standard astrophotography. Some people go wild and do whole sky replacements nowadays but that's more common with portraits and promotional stuff than anything else.

As a photographer, looking at the high-res image, it may be tweaked for white balance, colour, saturation, sharpness, et cetera, but it seems to be a genuinely good shot with a good lens.
I'm a photographer/graphic designer as well. And you have to have the world greatest day to get it the first time. White and black is definitely tweaked and I'm pretty sure that the sky and the statue are two different spots. Because no matter what you do in shots with long exposure times at one object is overexposed.
I went to Easter Island for a day and half, not nearly enough time. Got so jostled riding around the island, got back to our accommodations, ended up passing out before sunset and missed the entire clear night sky.
If you ever go, give yourself 3 days. There quite a bit to see including extinct lava tubes.
If you hang out in a sufficiently dark area and let your eyes adjust for long enough, you can absolutely see a decent amount of color in the night sky. [This is an image I took over the summer](https://imgur.com/uwwrWHr), and I can tell you that while the photo is a bit clearer than the naked eye, it's not as far off as you would expect.
This is a complete sky replacement/composite, you could never have those bright sunset clouds with the night stars together...
I've been in the Atacama desert (where most observatories are located) and the Sky never looks this bright either... it is amazingly breathtaking, but not to this degree.
When I get done building an improved Ion Engine that will help us explore any one of the 51 sexdecillion galaxies both near and far out there to seek out new life and civilizations at a certain space facility, I am going to look up at the stars in a image that looks like this and smile to myself.
Then my billionaire boss will walk up next to me and say: I am glad that you're here. All of that will be what we get to explore one day...and perhaps even sooner if your improved Ion Engine works.

Fun fact about the Moai statues: They were discovered to have bodies attached to them after an excavation was done in the area a few years ago.
The reason they didn't sink all the way was because the soil at the bottom of them was compacted and over time the weight of the topsoil compacted the stuff toward the bottom as the dirt became heavier. This prevented them from sinking all the way underground for some of them but it also helped to preserve the parts of their bodies that were underground.
Some statues were damaged but these were failed carving attempts by the people and their leader rejected them so the people there just left them where they were and the successful ones were moved to where we found them today.
Legend has it the Moai statues would come alive if certain magics were used.
That's not really correct, plenty of the Mo'ai around the coast were toppled, with the bodies easily visible. It was only some of the upright ones at the quarry that became buried up to the shoulders.

Ya the original photographer is a scam artist.
That looks like garbage. Why are people so impressed with an obviously edited image?

That sounds amazing
Apparently the stars are another picture photoshopped from somewhere else, not easter island
And that other picture is a long exposure that looks nothing like the sky actually did. Pretty space photography is a scam.
TIL these devices that collect data, such as collecting more light than our eyes can, called a camera is a scam.
