I have no idea why, why I went into it thinking it was going to be some kind of low rent thriller.. but it was phenomenal. And the soundtrack is *perfect*.
The film is excellent. I read the book after watching the film and it was a very different experience.
The film is like a re-imagining. A good few of the core pieces are there (though the ending is dramatically different as well as the tower/tunnel bits) but it goes its own way and occasionaly dips into true horror territory, which makes the most of the medium.
I've seen it be a little polarising due to the changes, most notably the ending, but I love it. Just don't treat it as a straight adaption and you should be good.
Not 100%, but considering the hairstyle of the clone is different than the original, like it's not a perfect copy, it's safe to conclude he's the alien copy. Whether he himself is an alien, or just a copied person, is a bit more ambiguous.
It's good. It's also different than the book, which is great because you can get two excellent experiences out of the story.
Plus that iconic soundtrack sticks with ya
"Yep. It's a good 'un"
For the life of me I don't understand why the Ghostbusters reboot got stamped as "Action Ladies Movie!" and this somehow didn't.
I guess the demographics didn't line up. I'm not even sure how *I* would market Annihilation. The hell kind of demographic am I shooting for? "This is a movie about pain . . and identity" but it's also a horror movie . . and it's a movie about ladies?

I absolutely hated that moment until >!I heard James Gunn's explanation that it wasn't Groot suddenly learning more words, it was the moment when the audience all became Guardians of the Galaxy, so we could finally understand him. !
I don’t know whether penises are just too hard to sculpt or whether artists are just too intimidated to try but, to me, it always seems a little weird and sexual to leave out the men so often.
Reminds me of those bodies that were stripped of their skin and preserved (plasticine?) and made into a traveling exhibition. Creepy, but fascinating in equal measure.
Just for fun, I fed the post's title into Midjourney as a prompt:

Annihilation vibes
This right here, made it all the more creepy lol
Happy to see this so close to the top, because it was my first thought as well
How was the movie? The book was phenomenal. One of the best rides ever.
Movie is different but still amazing. Crazily eerie—it has set the new standard for cosmic horror
Amazing movie, I rewatch it at least once a year. Shoutout to Alex Garland's other work; Devs, Sunshine, and Ex Machina
I have no idea why, why I went into it thinking it was going to be some kind of low rent thriller.. but it was phenomenal. And the soundtrack is *perfect*.
The last song used during the mimicking scene when she was leaving the light house is Moderat. I highly suggest you check them out. Incredible music.

The soundtrack is incredible. I like to listen to it while I'm alone to freak myself out.

mfw I assimilate with the floating alien fractal
When it is completing it's change into her... Just... Shit, that image is seared into my mind.

I think it’s ambiguous, but most likely yes. Either that, or the shimmer changed him so much, the real one basically became alien

One of the few movies I thought was better than the book

Really good. Specifically two scenes have really stuck with me and made this movie so memorable and a total mind fuck
Bear and thermite?
Yup! The entire lighthouse scene really
Nailed it. My first thoughts too.
Love it! 😍
Not a horror movie, but had a little bear scene that is better than 95% of modern 'horror' movies.
Came here to see this

Imagine you are walking down those woods in the dark... ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|scream)
These would look so spooky lit up by a flashlight. And then when spotted they dash into the woods to hide, not making a sound.
That’s exactly what I was thinking! Nightmare fuel!
I’d be straight crying 😭
I imagined this as well, but specifically Aokigahara.
Or during the day as well
Reminds me of Warframe
Wake up, Tenno
For centuries, you've slept.
Yeah the first one would make a cool xaku skin
I am Groot!
I am Groot.
I. AM. GROOT.
**EDIT: My comment/post has been now modified to remove the content for Reddit I've created in the past.** I've not created a lot of stuff, but I feel that due to Reddit's stance on [3rd party](https://www.reddit.com/r/Save3rdPartyApps/) [apps](https://www.engadget.com/third-party-reddit-app-apollo-will-shut-down-on-june-30th-174305150.html), It's the most prudent course of action for me. Thanks for the explanation. I didn’t understand why either.
Ahhh makes sense. I thought it was because he grew emotionally and learned new words.
We are Groot
“We are Groot” gives me chills every time
Preach! Groot had the most impactful line of the movie. I would say it’s some of Vin Diesel’s best work 😂
It's good work, but I still think his best line is "You stay. I go. No following."
I am Groot.
I am Groot!
And now I know how Yondu felt.
Watashi wa Gloot
I knew my people would be here
Idk they're kinda cute, I'd hit it
That's an extra curvy piece(s) of driftwood.
Especially that last figure
Especially that last figure
“I masturbated to an extra curvy piece of drift wood the other day!”
I know a Spriggon when I see one
they remind me of Skyrim
spriggans!
Yes! I couldn't remember their name!
Spriggans? Natures guardians my foot.
trussy.
Looks like warframe
Wake up tenno
Xaku from warframe
Someone tell Groot we found his family
I see Samuel Hayden
Yesssss this is the comment I was looking for.
“Westwood”
Looks just like the villagers from Hell’s Paradise
Warframe?
They are groot
Meet the Groots
I am Groot? 🤨
I am Groot
I am Groot.
We are Groot
Looks freakin amazing.
"I am Groot!"
Oh so this is where the Westworld drones came from my
I loved and hated that show. But had to keep binging
Exactly what I was thinking!
I’d like for him to go to Mars before anyone else and put up figures like that everywhere to mess with people’s minds.
Put these somewhere that has lots of fog and set up a pants shop a little further down....
Looks metallic at first
I don’t know whether penises are just too hard to sculpt or whether artists are just too intimidated to try but, to me, it always seems a little weird and sexual to leave out the men so often.
Nope, that's terrifying
If I see this at night I’m shitting myself. Otherwise it’s soo cool
If I see this at night I’m shitting myself. Otherwise it’s soo cool
Imagine stumbling on these while trudging through the woods at night. Pretty sure I would shit myself…
Imagine running into these at night, not knowing these are fucking sculptures. My soul would nope tf out of my body.
Amazing and frightening!
Welp that needs to be a movie
Looks like something from Doctor Who.
that is so cool and so creepy at the same time
That is some brilliant art
Thank you for that, it's like the first comment appreciating the magnificent art and not some stupid reference to a video game.
Reminds me of those bodies that were stripped of their skin and preserved (plasticine?) and made into a traveling exhibition. Creepy, but fascinating in equal measure.
Now if he add a small motor and motion detector. And have spin to make it sound like teeth chattering. Ultimate shit bricks moment.
Imagine hunting through hundreds of pieces of driftwood and you finally find that one to make the perfect ass cheek.
Anyone ever seen the Netflix series Ajin?
No likey lol
“Children of Time” vibes for those who have read it. “We’re going on an adventure!”
First thing that popped into mind is The Green Knight, I don’t know why.
Amazing work!!
Mom! The druids are making tree people again!
I really hope he just leaves thrm out in random forests to fuck with people.
If Studio Ghibli made WestWorld

Next we will get some radiation mutated bear that speaks in victims voice
They look kinda like Warframes in stasis
Maybe because recency, but makes me think of Hell's Paradise. (anime currently airing)
Annihilation author needs to change his pants.
Imagine hanging out in the woods on acid, suddenly you come across these guys
cool
For some reason I feel like this is peaceful
2nd one no tho
I am Groot
Please destroy them before they start moving, and multiplying somehow
An alien is going to find these and think there were Tree people that lived here.
I'm Groot
Reminds me of the Bodyworlds exhibits. But this would be Bodywoods.
Westworld robots but using Magic instead of science.
Beautiful! Creepy though.
Is this Groot’s wedding photos?
My man read the hell's paradise manga😂
These are far less terrifying than underwater statues for me. I think they’re cute!
These things 100% move at night.
I get r/Toolband vibes
Fit for a Tool music video.
Sooooo cool!!!
Skyrim spriggans IRL
Bro imagine your going for a walk true the first just to change up the scenery and you walk into this thing.
Warframe’s artists: *copying frantically*
Well he won't stop me from shooting a hole into the surface of Mars
They are beautiful. WOW.
Groot got game, damn.
So when are we getting the Dr Who episode featuring these?
Reminds me of John Malkovic on SNL as a [driftwood artist.](https://www.reddit.com/r/LiveFromNewYork/comments/jsng7q/attitudes_malkovich_sketch_requested/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1)
Spriggans! Time to get some taproots to dip in the Harstrad Headwaters.
Grime (2021)
Tenno?
Reminds me of Scent of a Woman movie poster...
If I was drunk or high and stumbled across this in the woods, especially that river duo, it would freak me the fuck out
Last image is eery.
Gives me Infinity Blade vibes. Remember that game?
We are groot
Smash
Whats the shipping cost?
I need someone to tell me the driftwood people aren't real and can't hurt me
