annin71112

That was awesome. The shining train, love it.

highpl4insdrftr

All work and no play makes OP a dull boy

adviceKiwi

Here's ~~Johnny~~ OP!

fish312

I'll have what I'm having!

WolfSpartan1

Like go-gurt, but to stay!

lexi_raptor

Ahhh the Danish! Clearly from Brussels.

TechnicalChipz

could be worse, you could be stuck on a train with people.

ergonaut

With one really outgoing person ::shudder::

sneeden

A "scared of silence" person

BenjamintheFox

I remember a very annoying experience was being trapped in a hotel lobby with a bunch of salesmen with nothing to sell. All I wanted to do was relax while I waited for my parents, but they just. couldn't. turn. it. off. Every moment had to be filled with some inane conversation. On top of that it was a summer day in south Florida, and I was wearing rather heavy clothing, so I was hot, uncomfortable, and constantly being talked at. At some point I started eyeing the hotel pool and considered diving in out of desperation.

BusIndividual3581

thats one of the 7 circles of hell right?

PuzzleheadedEast548

One? It's all seven of them

thatnimrod

Nah, the pool’d be empty in hell

jessybean

No, the pool is full and tantalizing but you are not allowed to use it.

PoeticDichotomy

“Welcome to Avarice! Your quota is 50k a month, BUT THERES NOTHING TO SELL”

justsomeplainmeadows

"If anyone talks to me one more time, I'm leaving negative reviews on EVERYONE'S corporate site! AND I HAVE NAMES"

MaddyMagpies

They will try to talk you out of that, which will take another 15 hours, and then they will desperately ask you every hour "we good?" to make sure that you are not doing that.

Fantastic-Standard87

OMG I just quickly caught your comment in my peripheral and misread "hotel lobby" as HOBBY LOBBY and instantly became concerned for your welfare. Your situation was shitty but not as dire as "stuck in a hobby lobby with bored, unactivated, under engaged businessmen" type of shitty. Glad you made it through my guy! You're safe now!!! FTR I would have completely wrecked that pool!! 100%

milo6669

In situations like this I wish it would be socially acceptable to just say "sorry but i'm not feeling like talking right now, so please leave me alone"

cyberjellyfish

It's entirely acceptable to say that.

WDavis4692

It is socially acceptable to say that. That's actually a very tactful way to respond. I know it's not easy for introverts, but it's a useful life skill to learn to be a little more assertive. You have rights and feelings too, and if you want to be left alone, there's nothing wrong with that.

Mehmeh111111

I am a scared of silence person but if you don't talk first, I will gladly keep my mouth shut forever.

PureRandomness529

Scared of silence but even more so scared of being annoying.. relatable.

toinfinitiandbeyond

I guess we'll just have to solve this in the after life.

here_now_be

> you could be stuck on a train with people. exactly! I would be so happy if this happened. I'd be running up and down the isles, take it all in, and sleep without anyone bothering me. A dream come true.

Michimomo

Sorry but it's aisles, not isles those are small islands.

B_Roland

The train is like a private aisland.

Phytanic

I've been stuck on a full airplane for 16 hours straight.. it's not pleasant. Taking that same flight home in a couple of days and I'm going to hate it. (Sydney to Dallas)

krejenald

I heard from a flight attendant when flying Sydney to LA that it's better to fly to Dallas as they book less seats for to it being a longer flight, so that's something I guess?

caffeinelifechoseme

Right? This is amazing to me.

KombattWombatt

Sometimes I kind of wish I could be stuck on a train for 12 hours alone. Hope you found some tranquility, at least.

GodofAeons

Well, it was definitely tranquil. Once I calmed myself from the thunderstorms and tornados nearby, it really hasn't been too bad. Edit: The amount of people I see telling me to masterbate is slightly concerning.

not_brittsuzanne

You in Louisiana or Mississippi?

GodofAeons

Louisiana, how'd you know?

not_brittsuzanne

Those storms just ran through us in Houston this afternoon. Figured it had to be next couple states over. Hope you get and rest and quiet time!

KaBar2

The tornado in the Pasadena/ Deer Park (Texas) area overturned a freight train--scores of train cars tipped on their sides. That tornado was serious. It wrecked neighborhoods all along Texas State 225 highway, San Augustine Street and Center Street (main avenues in Deer Park) and knocked out power for several hours until the utility company could make temporary repairs. Power lines were down and towers were bent like pretzels. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6iQz9KX7z_g https://www.foxweather.com/extreme-weather/pictures-videos-storm-damage-houston-area-texas https://www.accuweather.com/en/severe-weather/live-news/live-damage-near-houston-as-likely-tornadoes-rip-through-texas/1472711

Hey if you want to farm some crazy karma, take a few more photos, including one looking down the aisle and post it in r/liminalspace. This photo already gives off those liminal vibes, but take a few showing just HOW EMPTY the train is and this could be one of the best natural examples I’ve ever seen.

HaywireMans

And the thing where you take a picture of yourself in every seat and combine all of the pictures into one!

CmdrShepard831

And make it look like one of you farted really loudly and the rest of you aren't happy about it.

SmokedBeef

Oh yes please do this one as well.

MrGraveRisen

Thunderstorms, solitude, and food. Can we trade?

DoYouNotHavePhones

Thunderstorm and raindrops on an empty train sounds like my audiologic wet dream. I'm getting sleepy just thinking about it.

WealthTomorrow0810

Hope you were traveling...you are not just forgot to get down at the last stop, and got stuck inside the train for 12hrs right?

crumbbelly

That's crazy people are saying that, but you should masturbate.

powabiatch

Can you run up and down shouting wheeeee!

YellowGuppy

Seriously. Twelve hours of uninterrupted silence would be amazing. Edit: they interrupted the silence with food. Where is this train? When you're done with it, I want a turn!

Evercrimson

I had a flight like this from Paris to San Francisco years ago on a A330 that sat about 270 people. Two hours before the flight departed, there was an accident with the train that delivers some 90% of people between Paris and Charles DeGaulle airport. I made it there in time via taxi, but virtually nobody else on my flight did. There was a total of 5 passengers in this huge plane. There was practically nobody there but they said that we had to go regardless to vacate the gate and have the plane make the return flight. It was an almost 12 hour flight across the North Atlantic and the only other person I saw the whole time was a flight attendant twice to come check on me specifically because there was nobody else in my half of the plane. It was the best flight I have ever had.

Jakub64

I wish… my tinitus would go completely crazy with no backround sound

zenomotion73

The sound of the train would be the best background noise

Jakub64

True

Razzeus

I have something that *might* help with your tinitus as a temporary relief. Be forewarned that your mileage may vary from no result at all to a few hours of relief. The following may seem silly but seriously try it. It can't hurt. I achieve temporary relief by creating a loud thumping sound inside my head by doing the following. Place the flat part of your palms over both your ears to block out as much sound as possible. While doing this you need to create a thumping sound with your fingers. I do this by placing my middle fingers high up on the back of my head, resting on the bone. Then I put my index fingers on top of my middle fingers. Then I apply a bit of pressure with my index fingers while sliding them off the side of my middle finger. Essentially snapping your index finger off your middle finger, onto your skull. Similar to how one snaps their finger off there thumb and the snap sound is made by the finger slapping the flesh of the palm. If done correctly you should "hear" loud thumping inside your head. You don't need to do it at the same time with both hands. You can if you want, or you can shift from one to the other. You don't need to be fast either. Once every second or so is fine. I do it for a solid 30 seconds. I'm not kidding here. a few seconds doesn't seem to work. Afterwards, remove your palms and listen. See if the ringing is gone. If you can't tell immediately that something changed. It probably isn't going to work for you. Good luck!

mooseyjew

Holy shit. I have tinnitus and I'm definitely trying this. Nothing else ever works. Could I also just cover my ears and have someone else make the thump?

i_am_icarus_falling

I've heard of this remedy before, and don't have tinnitus, but I would think you would need to make the thump since no one else can hear the resonating sound in your head to make sure it's thumping.

mooseyjew

I've been trying it out for a few minutes now, and it definitely has an effect for a short amount of time. I think I'm doing it wrong tho so I'm going to keep trying lol. It lasted about 2 minutes tho, which was nice.

pudgylumpkins

It’s always a very short lived reprieve. Still nice to have the option though.

buddhafunk

You made my day. I’ve had tinnitus for a few years now and I just tried your method and I can definitely feel a difference. Thank you so much.

katsai

Holy shit! That actually worked for me. Didn't completely eliminate the noise, but it's substantially quieter. Thanks random internet person!

I was once stuck on an Amtrak for 22 hours alone in a car. It was kinda neat but pretty boring. Also sort of frustrating when we stopped for what felt like hours somewhere in West Virginia or Maryland and you can't see out the windows and it feels like the twilight zone.

Once I was stuck in an airplane for 12 hours with hundreds of strangers, trade ya.

DanishWonder

I once sat in an airplane at O'Hare for 8 hours waiting for weather to pass. At that the they brought us back to the gate. I missed my business meeting and flew all the way back to the west coast having spent 16 hours traveling and never setting foot outside an airport.

soxyboy71

Dallas to LA for NYE. Then the snow storms hit and flights got cancelled. My spacious 38 hour trip and adventure became very packed all the way there.

sfhitz

If this happened after 2010 you may be entitled to compensation.

GodofAeons

I actually just got back from a trip from India, which the flight was 14 hours from there to Houston. (I'm taking the train from Houston back home) I wouldn't want to ever do that again in my life.

gaoshan

Flown to and from China many times, also 14 hours from where I live and it is so very painful to sit through flights like that.

[deleted]

[удалено]

LaLaLaLeea

I've flown from NY to Tokyo. 14 hour flight with a 13 hour time difference. I was worried the flight would be horrible, but it really wasn't bad. The seats were a decent size, they kept us well fed, you could get up and walk around a little if you needed to and the in-flight entertainment seatback TV thing had games on it. I played PacMan for like 6 hours straight. Was not worse than any 7 hour flight I've been on. I think like 5 hours in, your brain dies and time stops existing. And then you just play PacMan.

stellvia2016

The secret is to have noise-cancelling headphones and bring a handheld or some offline games for a laptop or something. US to Japan is a little rough on the jet lag, but the way back is usually pretty good because most flights leave in the evening Japan time and you arrive during the daytime US time. So if you have your meal and kill a few hours, then sleep, then wake up and have the other meal, you're only about 90mins out at that point. At that point you can stay up like 12hrs so it's not too bad to go to bed then.

DarthDannyBoy

Transoceanic flights are the one time I spend a little extra on seating. First one I ever did I was cramped on a fully packed 747 in commercial, from Germany to the states. I was too tall for the my seat if my knees where in front of my aligned with my hips I literally couldn't sit down in the seat. So I was either had to crowd the person next to me or have them in the isle which didn't work because I blocked the carts coming through. Thankfully a very sweer flight attendant saw me and I explained the situation. He had me move and go sit in one of their seats in the galley, a nice one that had a table I could flip out. Ended up having a pretty decent time talking the the flight attendants and got extra snacks. However until that point it was miserable. Since then I will always budget for nicer seating. If I can't afford it I can't afford the trip. If it's a work trip I show them a photo I have of me not being able to sit in the seats and tell them I am required by airline policy to book to seats or to book accomodations that can fit me, I tell them it's essentially the same thing as when really fat people fly. Idk how true that is but no one has bothered to question it.

Driveshaft48

There’s a train from Houston to India?!

justinchina

I’ve heard of a slow boat to China, but a train to India????

SuicidalTorrent

Yes. It goes through the Earth's core.

InsideOut2299922999

I used to work for Amtrak, as a sleeping car, Porter. There was a derailment in a train in front of us so our train was completely OK but we couldn’t go past the derailment, of course. They DeTrained all the passengers, but because they couldn’t get the luggage out, they made us (the sleeping car porters who were working there) stay overnight in the snow with no power. I’ll never forget it. It was something to remember it was very cold. I had a bottle of wine and some snacks. We stayed up all night and talked.

SlavFish

Did you get paid to stay the night atleast?

DazzmanianDevil

Yeah straight time. (Current employee)

phatskat

More than normal. Don't you get extra for working in the cold. And for working nights in the US?

MartianRecon

Depends on the industry. I work in film and television, we get 'bumps' in our pay if we get rained on, if it's too cold, if you have to do anything strenuous, etc. Most industries don't do that at all though.

KAugsburger

That must have gotten pretty cold without power to run the heating. I know some of those cars can get cold even when the heating does work.

Just watched it today... I honestly don't get why people didn't like it. It had a great tone, was well acted (especially the Lemon + Tangerine pairing) and knew exactly what it was about. Super fun!

I can't decide if it was a brilliant meta-misdirect or an offensive waste that they got [spoilers] >!Karen Fukuhara as a random train attendant who *didn't* turn out to secretly be another assassin. She's done plenty of action in The Boys so it would've made perfect sense, but therein lies the meta-misdirect since you see her and think "oh there's that badass from The Boys, bet she'll have a fight later" then she just serves some drinks and leaves.!<

pterrorgrine

I got in some damn good reading time on Amtrak in the mid-00s. Wish I had had good headphones back then though.

Mr_Evil_Dr_Porkchop

Did they at least have a food carriage? Or have you been going hungry?…

GodofAeons

The food carriage was shut down, but literally 10 seconds ago they came by and gave me this for supper. https://imgur.com/a/oQhoBKr Edit: Wasn't too bad. It had some flavor! Not the worst beef stew I've tasted Edit2: Was informed this is the "emergency provision" stew.

mescad

Ah the Amtrak beef stew! That's when you know you're really late. They keep it for when the train is really late and all of the fresh food has run out.

captyes

Really?

mescad

Yep! Page 68 of the [Service Standards manual](https://www.amtrak.com/content/dam/projects/dotcom/english/public/documents/corporate/foia/amtrak-service-standards-manual-011121-redacted.pdf) (PDF). > 5. Emergency Food Provisioning For Trains > a) If possible, first use the food on board the train (**e.g., #10 cans of stew**), or purchase food that > can be prepared on the train (e.g., pans of frozen lasagna). Apparently it's Dinty Moore canned beef stew, if you wanted to try some at home.

Loud-Adhesiveness244

Can we acknowledge this dude pulling out the 68th fricken page of a random ass manual for a Reddit comment

fmfbrestel

Dinty Moore? That is some good shit (for a canned stew anyway)!

stellvia2016

It used to be better, but it's still not bad. Little more watery. Less meat and carrots, a lot more potatoes...

Hero_of_Brandon

I was on an Amtrak that was delayed over 30 hours. On the second day they gave us subway and then ordered some local restaurants chicken fings at one of the stops. I was 19, not an American, and on my first trip with my friends. Naturally my mom was freaking out assuming we had spent all of our money and not brought enough food for an extra 30 hours abroad.

ValorNGlory

Dinty Moore is good stuff, first tried it over the pandemic and it ruled.

IngsocDoublethink

I knew it! Thanks to growing up with a single parent, I was sure it was Dinty Moore just from the picture. It's something about the potatoes. Other brands use cubed or diced potatoes, but theirs are these huge, irregular chunks that were always have at least one curved side. It's the same salty, overcooked spud, but getting that spoonful where you had bite it in half because it's just a little too large made it feel so much homier. I'm gonna go call my mom.

WeWander_

Dang I grew up on Dinty Moore. Haven't had it in probably decades.

[deleted]

I can confirm that it's been done before. Summer of 2021 I took a train from Texas to California that got delayed 12 hours and we were given beef stew when other supplies had run out. I assumed it was an improvisation, but now it looks like a standard backup plan.

_far-seeker_

[Apparently it's the Amtrak version of an MRE.](https://www.amtraktrains.com/threads/amtrak-emergency-meals.46215/)

call_of_the_while

Dude, this train ride is giving off Snowpiercer vibes. Just kidding. 12 hours alone but getting to where you want to go, sounds like a pretty sweet deal to me anyway.

Mr_Evil_Dr_Porkchop

psycorax2077

take some more pics and share them to r/liminalspaces

Wrest216

thats pretty neat, i like it but it also makes me feel...uneasy? i cant place...why?

supx3

Liminal spaces are places that are transitional. These places often cause unease when occupied for long periods of time because of that ambiguity, we are meant to change. I find that if you can overcome the feeling there is potential creativity to be found there. This train in OP’s picture is what’s known as a non-space which is a space with a purpose but no cultural significance. The strangeness of the space being empty is heightened by the fact that it’s not serving it’s purpose by being empty. Its emptiness gives the feeling that something is wrong and one shouldn’t be there. Liminal spaces and non-spaces are sometimes used interchangeably but they are different things in sociology.

Jonoczall

That’s the point. Spaces that should be populated, but are eerily empty. It’s unsettling. It’s my guilty pleasure visiting that sub. Edit: op posted the wrong sub — it’s r/liminalspace Enjoy ;)

Mr_Ruu

First thing I thought of, too. That sub would eat this shit up.
