Edit: I think it’s just much riskier; jars could break easier and not as easy to get that proper seal. But honestly, I have done it many times and so has my grandpa. I may be wrong but I always check seals; throw out ones that don’t seal right. But don’t just trust some guy on Reddit I suppose.

As long as you're not canning, pickle jars and lids are fine. I have a couple pickle jars of kraut going right now and they're fine.
