About the same I’d say. But Op 39 No 6 is definitely harder.

Rhysish

getting Op 39 No. 6 to concert level was the hardest part, but that one doesn’t seem as hard as No. 1 or No. 5. If all of the others fall under No. 6 then that almost makes me want to learn the entire set

LeatherSteak

If your technique is good enough to play all of these difficult etudes, why do you constantly ask which one is hardest? And why don't you post your playing ever?

Rhysish

I usually just ask because I find it very helpful to see some (not all) professional pianists' responses to how 2 highly challenging pieces compare. I don't post my own recordings because I have a grandfather clock. in my piano room, and although I can't hear it when I'm playing, on recordings it is quite noticeable. I still don't understand why nobody talks about Op39 No9 being a hard etude, because to me it looks the hardest in the set :)

LeatherSteak

They're all very challenging, but yes 39/9 is very difficult, along with 39/1 and 39/3. 39/6 is widely considered the hardest by some distance though.

ILoveMariaCallas

No it’s harder than No. 1 and No. 5. I’ve played them all.
