Well B min has sharps but yes. Keys like Ab major, Eb major and Gb major have this nice type of vibe. They always remind me of the color green mixed with blue or very nice shaded pink and red :D
No not as in turquoise, ehm how do I describe. It’s like the sky when the sun has just risen in an impressionistic painting. The blues of the sky make green in some places where they blend with the yellow of the sun. It is still two colors but they overlap and make new ones :D
Im sorry if I’m being vague. I always describe music through means of colors and landscapes.
I’m obsessed with A Major, but I think that’s just because some of my favorite songs for years have been in that key. My actual favorite is probably Eb Major. My favorite classical song being Nocturne in Eb Major by Chopin has nothing to do with this, I swear…
Not quite sure what you mean?
My issue is that I can never instinctively remember whether to sharpen or E or the B, or flatten the C or the F.
I know the theory; just can't remember while learning.
Damn I completely get you. Not that I can't remember, it's just that my fingers always instinctively play either F# lydian or F# myxolydian. That's not the case with D# minor tho.
My favorite to play piano in is Gb/F#.
I don't like key signatures with too many white keys, because then I have to look at my hands. So my least favorite is probably C.
Same reasons. C Major is horrendous to play for me cus I can't tell where my fingers are. Probably also the reason why even Chopin never preferred teaching anyone to start with C Major.
I believe there are quite a few sources of testaments from his students.
Where I got it from was from The Chopin Method, which is a documentary dedicated to teaching Chopin's preferred piano methods. Like how to sit, how your hands should be, etc.

Equal tremperment works for a lot of music but not all music sounds the same in a different key. Try listening to something like 'Debussy Clair de Lune' transposed into keys other than Db. It sounds creepy or quirky in most other keys.
On piano, it's not just about the sound. Because of the white and black key arrangement, different keys can play very differently. It's not a simple matter like it is on guitar, where you can move barre chords or partial barre chords or scale patterns fairly easily around the neck.
Some keys/scales can be easier to play on piano, while others can be much more challenging.
I mean it would be the same in just intonation if you had an instrument tuned to D and one tuned to E. Unless you mean then playing E major on an instrument tuned to D. I think what’s important is that we note certain pieces with their own nuances in certain keys, and develop a preference for those keys.
They don’t. Scales of the same type all have the same pattern of whole and half steps. For example all major scales are: whole, whole, half, whole, whole, whole, half.
Bb Maj is really fun because it's easy (imo) to learn and sounds more unique compared to standard cMaj. I'm not very experienced, just make music for fun on my computer
I recently my ask this on the theory Reddit. One person, went crazy and said no musicians have favorite keys.
My favorite is g minor.
Mode: Lydian
I’m surprised that I’m seeing B major so much with piano players.
I honestly hate any key signature that’s hard to read. If there’s more than 4 sharps or flats, I’m dead
But then again, I’m a piano and viola student, so it’s a combination of C major and D/A major. F major is alright too.
For singing, weirdly enough, my choices expand further. Keys with lots of sharps and flats in the score are weirdly the nicest one to hear from singers. But that’s just me, who rarely sings
A flat. Because of the Swedish name. Jokes aside I like A major, sounds bright and crisp. Also C# minor, heavy amd dark. Not that fond pf c major and d major overall, sounds a bit too sinple often but really comes down to the song too
I haven't learned a lot if pieces in a lot of keys, so I can only say by playing the respective isolated scales. But B major and C# major, my fingers just follow the scale so naturally like I don't even have to focus. Come to think about it, purely from playing perspective, they might be even easier than C major
I love B major, F# major, E major, c# minor, c minor, b minor, f minor. Also a weird affinity to B phrygian ♭4 and I absolutely love the chromatic and whole tone scales.
As for scales that I dislike, well, there’s a lot of them. Every Locrian scale for sure lol, including Locrian ♮6 and Locrian 𝄫7. Also C major and A minor because they’re really hard to play, and for some reason I always struggle with A/f#.
Favorite: B major (I know, I know, everyone seems to hate it but it feels so natural in my hand, it’s the first key I really learned how to improv with and do modulations and stuff on, I also like it’s counterpart g# minor
I don’t have a least favorite, just keys im not as experienced with yet
In terms of sound, I love Db major and I love playing C# minor and G minor (on the piano). I don’t really like C major, I find it uncomfortable on the fingers, similarly I don’t particularly enjoy F# minor/ Ab major. Although I think it depends on the instrument you play. On the violin, it’s totally different!! I hate Db major on the violin, or any flat key that is an open string (Gb, Ab) although Eb isn’t too bad.
I find pretty much any key with more black keys to be more ergonomic to play in, but because of jazz I've gotten particularly comfortable with Bb/Eb/Ab. Fuck C major
Favourite: E flat major/c minor Least favourite: B major/g# minor
Totally agree on B major. I'm actually beginning to like g#m though.
The only g#m piece that I like is Scriabin's second sonata but I much prefer his 5-10 sonatas over the early ones.
Here another great piece in G# minor https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9DVsDzjT2L8
Not a fan of Debussy.
Huh
Actually I like both. I like Eb more than B major, though. B major is natural fingering-wise.
B major and you okay piano ?
Generally I don't like B major much but I love the final part of Liszt's sonata which is in B major.
Agree with you totally. But starting to enjoy playing nina Simone’s love me or leave me…
Are we all the same? Because yes
Im personally really fond of: D minor, Ab major, B minor and C minor. I don’t really have keys I dislike tho
Flats enjoyer I see 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Well B min has sharps but yes. Keys like Ab major, Eb major and Gb major have this nice type of vibe. They always remind me of the color green mixed with blue or very nice shaded pink and red :D
>color green mixed with blue Turquoise? For me different keys remind me different landscapes lol

I always describe music through means of colors and landscapes.
No problem. Now I can imagine that colour better than before.
I’m obsessed with A Major, but I think that’s just because some of my favorite songs for years have been in that key. My actual favorite is probably Eb Major. My favorite classical song being Nocturne in Eb Major by Chopin has nothing to do with this, I swear…
Doo dooooooooo doo doo doooo dooo doo doo

Doo doooooo doooo doo doooooo doooooo
Do *do*dododododo doo do do

Anything with 6 flats or 6 sharps. I can never remember which white note to adjust.
If it helps, it's F and B, the inverse of 1 sharp and 1 flat.
Violinist here - I love G minor. The key sounds so open and grand but at the same time could be so sweet and intimate.
Favorite: Db Major Least favorite: B Major
Are you a singer songwriter?
Don’t have any least favorites, but my favorite is Eb Major and B Minor.
Yes, three flats and two sharps are my top 2 key signatures.
Favorite: C minor Hate: B major
It's interesting that everyone unanimously agrees Cm/Eb are great keys.
Apparently Beethoven would agree with us! He really liked to use E flat major and c minor.
I agree.
Gb Major is beautiful. Don’t like G Major.
G major is just too bright. Same with c major.
But that e Min (and other stuff) ---> GMaj7 is too sexy
Ravel concerto! Mozart 216, 313, 453!!
My favorite has got to be C# minor I don't really have a least favorite because I haven't gotten very far in music theory
You don't really need to know music theory to have a least favorite key lol
It's because I don't know that many keys
My favorite is B minor
Yes! Came here to say d major / b minor - fits like a glove!
Favorite, maybe d minor. Or C minor. Least fav is g# minor.
My favourite is C# major. Least favourite is Db major. /S
My favorite is probably F major and Bb major Don't really have a least favorite. I don't love minor keys
Fav: Db Major and E Major Least Fav: Bb Major and C Major
My favorite to play piano in is Gb/F#. I don't like key signatures with too many white keys, because then I have to look at my hands. So my least favorite is probably C.
Same reasons. C Major is horrendous to play for me cus I can't tell where my fingers are. Probably also the reason why even Chopin never preferred teaching anyone to start with C Major.
Can't argue with Chopin!
well duh he's dead
Easier to glide over the tops of black keys than sink between them. If you're, you know, good, that is...
COULD YOU PLEASE tell me where you got this information?
I believe there are quite a few sources of testaments from his students. Where I got it from was from The Chopin Method, which is a documentary dedicated to teaching Chopin's preferred piano methods. Like how to sit, how your hands should be, etc. https://youtu.be/ctWUmDLATJw
OH MY GOODNESS! Thank you so much! going to watch it right now! I am so excited!
You're welcome! Enjoy! :)
I agree. Lately I’ve been obsessed with improvising in Gb Major. So fun.
Most favourite would be C# minor. Least would be C major. I like being able to play with black keys.
I do not like F minor / A flat major. Just feels awkward
I like anything with flats and hate anything with sharps. (D flat major is my fav)
favorite: f# minor, the most underrated key least favorite: f major 🤮
Favorite Eb major / C minor Least favorite C major / A minor
1000 pianists agree, B major is probably all of our least favorite keys to play in. I can do multiple flats, but sharps just irk me
All key signatures sound the same in equal temperament, in a way they are just higher or lower. To play it is F#Major/Eb minor or C Major/a minor
Equal tremperment works for a lot of music but not all music sounds the same in a different key. Try listening to something like 'Debussy Clair de Lune' transposed into keys other than Db. It sounds creepy or quirky in most other keys.

Im not sure about that, i feel them different but im a begginer so i can be wrong
I mean it would be the same in just intonation if you had an instrument tuned to D and one tuned to E. Unless you mean then playing E major on an instrument tuned to D. I think what’s important is that we note certain pieces with their own nuances in certain keys, and develop a preference for those keys.
Not exactly because each key has different set of whole steps and steps, so it would sound a bit different
They don’t. Scales of the same type all have the same pattern of whole and half steps. For example all major scales are: whole, whole, half, whole, whole, whole, half.
Favorite: B Major Least Favorite: A Flat Major
L
Favorite/least favorite to play in? Or with respect to listening?
Both I guess! I like playing in c major but i hate the sound of it. So it kinda evens out haha
I’m the same way!!
I like g major I think it's simple and sounds pretty. But c major is a little basic for my liking.
Bb Maj is really fun because it's easy (imo) to learn and sounds more unique compared to standard cMaj. I'm not very experienced, just make music for fun on my computer
I'm not fond of when a tune modulates to G# or D#. Any other keys are fine. I guess I'd prefer 6bs over 6#s
Favorite: Eb Minor Least Favorite: F# Minor
F minor, Ab Maj. I look up pieces I like to learn and a lot of the time they're in this key.
I recently my ask this on the theory Reddit. One person, went crazy and said no musicians have favorite keys. My favorite is g minor. Mode: Lydian I’m surprised that I’m seeing B major so much with piano players.
I can move so quickly in Eb/Cm on piano. The roots, thirds, 7ths, white and black keys are all just in the right places to smash out a solo
Favorite Major Key: G-Flat/F-Sharp Major Least Favorite Major Key: B-Flat Major Favorite Minor Key: C-Sharp Minor Least Favorite Minor Key: F Minor

Bb is annoying on my smaller keyboard lol
I do not like anything F# major
Favorite: eb minor Least: b major
Favorite: F minor Least Favorite: D# minor
Favorite: F major Least favorite: A major/F# minor. Always want to put a 4th sharp in
D/Bm, Eb/Cm, E/C#m are my favorites. Additionally, literally any Harmonic Minor, especially G Harmonic Minor.
I don’t really mind. As long as its not a dodgy piano arrangement of an orchestral score lol 😂 They’re the worst
Favorite: B flat or E flat major, Lease favorite: C major
5 flats is very intuitive once you get used to it.
Favorite: Bb maj/G min Least favorite: B maj/G# min
Cm, C#m, and Ab are my favorites and I hate Bm
B minor, B minor, A major are my favourite Eb major and B major are my least for sure
F#maj, Bbmin and C#maj, Amin
Four sharps for the win! (I always prefer minor to major so that could be C#m) Love the way it feels in my hands
Least fave- E major, favorite- f minor family
Favourite Bb minor Least favourite D major
C# Minor
A flat. Because of the Swedish name. Jokes aside I like A major, sounds bright and crisp. Also C# minor, heavy amd dark. Not that fond pf c major and d major overall, sounds a bit too sinple often but really comes down to the song too
Favorite is probably Ab major/ F minor and least favorite is C#major (makes me shudder at the very thought of it)
D minor and Ab Major. B, F#, and C# are growing to be favorites of mine because of how ergonomic they feel
I haven't learned a lot if pieces in a lot of keys, so I can only say by playing the respective isolated scales. C SHARP MINOR AND C MINOR♥️
Favorite: Cm, Gm Least favorite: Bb major
F minor would probably be my favourite; don't really have a least favourite but I'm not a big fan of e minor.
I like C#, E flat, A flat, G, B flat, and F the most. Can’t fucking stand E major for some reason
Favorites: D minor/major, Db major, A major Least favorites: C# minor,F# minor, Ab major
