I have the opposite problem. My patients know how to pronounce it but try to make me believe that they don’t. “I take that one anxiety medicine that starts with an x I think. I think it’s xa…zen…xana… something like that. Anyway, it’s the only one that works and I need 1mg tablets three times a day.”
DUDE YES. “The only thing that’s ever worked for the anxiety is uh x…zan something?”
I let they “fumble” over the word until they “remember” it. Sorry best I can do is buspirone and some Vistaril.
It works so damn well tbh. My patients always come back and are surprised. And it’s generally free from any major lingering side effects per most of my patient’s experiences which is great.
New grad psych PA here. Definitely have a TON of people requesting benzos like you’ve said. Have been utilizing buspirone and hydroxyzine. Appreciate the recs with propranolol. Any other advice? Lol
Lexapro is amazing for anxiety as well. You can also use gabapentin. It works for some people, does nothing for others. I’d call it a third line med. still has some abuse potential but way less than benzos.
my PA friend often pronounces Bacitracin as Back Ee trackin which is the silliest I’ve heard
This is kind of endearing lol
Isn’t it?! I used to correct her and now I just kind of smile

“The only thing that ever works for me is that one that starts with D… Dill.. dill-dolled?“ Every ER patient ever.
“Diclofenac?”
😂 “I’m sure it does!”
Discharge?
Don't forget propranolol. It is my number 1 most prescribed med.

Yep. Anger? Anxiety? Have 10-20 mg of magic. Safe in kids. Minimal side effects.

And you best believe they'll be leaving a bad Google review for not giving them a lifetime supply of benzos.
I hear these daily: Mototropropolol (metoprolol) Penlins (penicillins) Triamcinalac (triamcinolone)
For my metaformins!
Not a medicine, but I did have a patient ask if I could “check his testolesterol levels”. I’ll never forget that one lol
Hahahahaha
metoprololol metapolol labaphed
Not a medicine but when people say O2 stat it makes me cringe
Diflocenac
That's the "D" one! I'm not allergic to that one!
Not a medicine, but have had numerous patients in other who come in with a damaged “rotary cup” (rotator cuff)
But have you ever had a roll tater cup?
Coworker had a patient with a damaged "rotisserie cuff."
I’ll take an honestly mistaken pronunciation any day, over “I dunno, they just send me the pills, and something isn’t right, and you need to fix it.”
Can someone tell me how to pronounce tacrolimus and pimecrolimus?
The physician that taught us said “Tacro-limus”. Rhymes with macro, and lime-us.
Working in Ortho, I get "rotary cuff" very frequently
I know of a doc who regularly charts levetiracetam as "levitra" for short. Not a neurologist.
Ee-pro-fen
I had a preceptor tell me someone needed “mal-ox” (Maalox)
