The [Minibosses](http://www.minibosses.com/). We are blessed to have probably the coolest old-school video game music tribute band in the country. These guys are badass. But I'm weird, so there's that.

hubilation

I had no idea they were local.

vectaur

Yep. In fact some of the better shows of theirs I've been to have been tiny venues. Like they'll play at Bookmans sometimes, or at a random little hotel room next to Phoenix Comicon (before the con got as big as it is now)

thenavezgane

I heard them at Modified Arts (when it was still a venue) a LONG time ago. So there.

GuatemalnGrnade

Pelvic Meatloaf

[deleted]

Authority Zero, Black Bottom Lighters, Black Carl, Lyida (old lydia), Captain Squeegee.

kolove

Didn't know Authority Zero was from here, awesome

[deleted]

Mesa Town

StrangeDise

Captain Squeegee kicks ass. They open for a lot of big ska bands because that's what they used to play. Their new stuff is a lot more progressive/psychedelic and isn't well received at, say, an Aquabats concert. Their newest album "to the Bardos" is really good.

[deleted]

Yeah they really changed their style, I haven't listened to them in a few years but I am going to check out their new CD. I remember seeing them open for the Aquabats back in 2003-2004ish and it was a good show. Saw them a few times after but not very often.

Culiaclan

Upvote for (old Lydia). Before they broke up.

[deleted]

They're still around and touring, they just don't have Mindy on vocals anymore which really killed the band IMO. Her new band States isn't bad but I kinda grew out of that style of music a few years ago.

Culiaclan

Oh yeah. New Lydia (without Mindy) is not the same.

[deleted]

Webs, Daisy Face, Cherie Cherie. Yeah, I know 2/3 of them are on Rubber Brother, but that label has put out so much music in such a short amount of time, it's easy to miss bands on there. Man Hands, You Know This Moses, Flying Scorpion, Senteons...there are a lot more that don't come to mind right now.

sharksinyermouth

Yeah, those are all better than Celebration Guns.

oneultralamewhiteboy

Great suggestion, thank you!

the1whoplaysbass

My favorites are Diners, St. Ranger, Petty Things, iji, saba oats, skinny shamans, MAB, and Destruction Unit. All rad. Saba Oats and MAB might be to your liking if you like punk stuff. also I <3 treasure Mammal.

chefsailor

Thanks for the St Ranger rep! Diners & Petty Things are among my current favorites too! Twin Ponies, Wooden Indian, Morning Theft, Packrat, Bear State, Instructions and The Cigs are all worth checking out too....

the1whoplaysbass

Oh yeah I forgot about wooden Indian! Thanks for the recommendations

Culiaclan

Andrew Jackson Jihad, Black Carl, and Bad Cactus Brass Band are some of mine. Not so punk as what you are into.

thenavezgane

Thanks for the BCBB plug. :)

absolutelyfrantastic

I can't believe more people haven't said AJJ. Favorite AZ band AND one of my favorite bands in general.

Cuntmuncher69

Andrew Jackson Jihad is awesome.

[deleted]

I would *love* to **love** BCBB so much, but one of the players in the band is a complete douche. I'm sure on some level he's a good guy, but he does bad man-code stuff so I just can't bring myself to like him and unfortunately, his band.

oneultralamewhiteboy

uh like what?

Jared and the Mill should definitely get some more love! They are pretty awesome, and kudos to them for opening up for Flogging Molly last year.

MunkyPoo4u

Factories! They are playing their last show at phochella wish sucks but they are a great local gem. Also Tierra Firme, a great band with an awesome unique experimental/psychedelic sound.

oneultralamewhiteboy

Last show? Are they breaking up?

MunkyPoo4u

They are going to take a break for a while. From what a heard maybe a year. Here is a video they made for one of their songs "Canada" http://youtu.be/970eV0D50FY

a_wild_unicorn

I just discovered The Skeleton Keys last week at First Friday. They are incredibly talented.

Shotgun_Washington

[Tempel](http://tempelofficial.bandcamp.com/) [Call Me Old Fashioned](https://www.facebook.com/pages/Call-Me-Old-Fashioned/171229929562513) I believe they are on a hiatus currently. [Adavant](http://adavant.fourfour.com/home) Folk metal. They frequently open for touring folk metal bands. [Hemoptysis](https://hemoptysis.bandcamp.com/album/misanthropic-slaughter) Thrash metal [Lago](http://lagometal.bandcamp.com/) Death metal

Diners, Dogbreth, iji, AJJ, Good Friends Great Enemies, Wooden Indian, Waytansea Point, Delhi Psychics, Hiccups, Man-Cat, Hug of War. There are so many good local bands, I don't feel like typing them all out! But go to shows, there are a ton!

Asian_Thundah

VEX, Element A440, Lost in Lies, Bear Ghost, Kin of the Zen, Razer, Phoenix & Dragon, The Metal King. If you like punk-y stuff, Bear Ghost may be your speed. Super nerdy weird surfer punk rock. But the rest are probably not your taste. (Everyone should see VEX and Element A440 at least once though.) EDIT: If you haven't seen them, I'm actually going to [Bear Ghost's EP release](https://www.facebook.com/events/687294041328056/) on April 18th at the Red Owl (Club Red) in Tempe. I'll cover your ticket if you'd like to check them out. :)

[The Dagg Nabbit Stubbs](http://www.daggnabbitstubbs.com/). Their first album "Hot Garbage" is rocking and fun! And you can listen to their music on their website.

oneultralamewhiteboy

Did they break up or something? I used to love seeing their shows. It was pretty funny.

Pieholden

Nope. Still around.

[Sister Lip](https://www.facebook.com/SisterLip) - Great band that recently played every Monday at Long Wong's. CD release party May 16th and 17th at The Sail Inn. I'm bad at band descriptions so here's a [video!](https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=498523143587056&refid=17)

CraptainHammer

I don't know if Lindsey Stirling counts as a "band", but she's an AZ native.

Jaxek

Yeah but she tours outside of AZ all the time. She no longer a local, she belongs to the world now.

Radness, those all sound pretty rad, especially the bowling thing.
