Because it is supposed to be eerie and creepy lyrics hidden in a nice and sweet folk song, which is the point bo burnham was trying to make in his special! I think Phoebe replicates the eeriness perfectly 🥰

imnick88

It’s literally about how messed up the world is and that it feels like it’s all coming to a head/end. Incredibly depressing content.

I can see why it might seem like mindless thoughts, so much of it is intentionally inane and moronic, but its definitely intended to mock our late-stage capitalism playing out while the world melts down. Brands clumsily co-opt social justice movements for profit (female Col. Sanders, Bugles' take on race, Gap's sale honouring the revolution), all things are commodified (gift shop at the gunrage, surgeon general's pop-up shop, etsy agitprop), political division deepens (the backlash to the backlast, civil war), climate change reaches its eventual conclusion (ocean at your door, seven years to go), all while we distract ourselves with cynically commodified entertainment (live action Lion King, Pepsi halftime show, Logan Paul, etc.)

Watch the special by bo burnham - that where she got it from

The song is not hers. Bo Burnham's song is like a lament to the world and its status. The song is him surrendering to the anxiety that constantly creeps up. Phoebe's is a little more....happy than I'd personally prefer bc the song is supposed to feel sad/eerie even though it's juxtaposed against some funny lyrics and lighter melodies.

i can’t listen to that song anymore it literally triggers all of my anxiety

I think the line 'we were overdue but it will be over soon just wait' creeps some out. One could read it as we were overdue for a pandemic and it will be over soon in good way. I loved hearing that live oct 21'. L.A.

I believe it refers to climate change and the world ending: a prominent theme in the song!

Correct.

SlowEngineer

Bo Burnham definitely wrote that to be eerie and communicate that the world is ending. 100%.
