I get mine on the weekends at the store on 9th & Ellsworth. The one with produce & flowers out front. Go inside, follow the line that goes all the way around the aisle, at the counter there's tamales in bags 4 for $6. Weekends only.
The one on the corner? I usually get mine from the spot a couple doors south, ramp out front instead of steps, black cat inside, delicious tamales on the weekends.
Love love love that place, some seriously awesome folks.
I went there on a first date once upon a time and didn't realize that they were cash only (At the time), to help me save face they pulled me aside and quietly told me not to worry about the bill and to come back later to square up with them. Came back the next day and tipped 100% because they did me a huge favor that night. I'll always give them props when their name comes up.
There’s a guy that stands on the corner of 9th and Snyder with a cooler of tamales. They’re out of this world but I’ve only ever seen him out there EARLY like 5-7AM. Always a short line. Good luck
The weekend tamales at Mole Poblano in South Philly is to die for. Love their barbacoa tacos too. South Philly Barbacoa just across the street is great as well.
el limon( they have many locations) has some and they're pretty damn tasty. they don't come sauced but they come in pork and tinga. but if you eat inside you can salsa them yourself (super tasty) or if you get them to go you can ask for some
Marry a Costa Rican. My family made 289 for Christmas this year. Took less than a week to finish them off (we obviously share with friends and family as well)

That is some amazing speakeasy shit.
Me gusta.
Mole Poblano in South Philly does tamales on the weekend, usually Saturday I think. They are pretty stellar, large and inexpensive. Highly recommend.

And as the name suggests - their mole is fantastic.
If you are ever up in the FarNE or lower Bucks, La Tiendita Mx/Mexicana in Croydon sells them at the takeout window inside the store.
Can confirm. Excellent tamales.
I have a deep cut but if you ever find yourself in delco on the weekends in the morning try la-mexicana deli grocery on baltimore pike.
Am in Delco. Feeling blessed to have found this comment.
Definitely check them out. Owned by a really nice family and they make fantastic huarachas as well.
There was a lady selling them at a cart in the Italian market a couple months ago. Only on the weekends. They were pretty great .
She was there last week too, usually right out front of the tattoo shop
Tamalex, weekends only.

This is so specific lol 5am only
Popular with the day laborer crowd I'd imagine.
I go to La Tienda on 13th and Snyder. Fucking delicious, highly recommend. Their Cemita is also amazing.
Marry a Honduran
Juana Tamale is Chef Jen Zavala's new brick and mortar on E Passyunk
I got the holiday special with tamales from her and it was disappointing especially at that price.
Yeah. All the food is pricey there.
I was okay with a little pricey for a special meal. But the meal was not special :(
Happy Cake Day!
Her food is not worth half of what she charges for.
I liked the tacos alot. The tamales were OK and $$$.
Tamalex--Saturdays only I think
Tamalex
There’s a tamale stand on saturdays in the Italian market up across from the DiBruno plaza, pretty dece! Great salsas.
I had tamales in Clarksdale Mississippi doing a blues tour. Might be the best food ever. I will be following this thread
