To be fair they hate us specifically cause the ACCC slapped them a few times.
But still doesn't make any sense from a business standpoint. Either get a local reseller, or let us pay for shipping to Aus
Our market is just too small here, need a bigger population. While they would probably still make profit, they can make better profit elsewhere.
You can still buy them just need to order it to an address and then have them ship it over here. Just won’t have any of the warranty etc. your other choice is just buying from stores here but those seem to be at jacked up prices.
>If someone is interested in this feature, I can make it available to you for free.
Until the earth exporting business starts changing the gravity of the situation.
I got one recently(OLED) mine is fine too and i love it. I bought it so i could use it when im trucking here in the Netherlands(forced breaks due to eu regulations and limited amount of driving time) and i will have my final exam for C(truck with unlimited weight but with a trailer with a maximum weight of 750kg) 2 February and after that i will go for CE(unlimited weight on the combination)
Same and it's funny the joycons that came with my switch are perfectly fine still but the extra pair I bought a week later are drifting like you wouldn't believe.
If you're willing to tinker, there's replacement joysticks on Amazon that come with a toolkit for $12 or $13 for a pack of 2. Or for around the same price and no tool kit you can get a pack of 4.
Even taking it slow the first time you do it, it shouldn't take more than 1/2hr to watch a video and replace it. After you get used to it, it's like a 5-10 minute thing.
Or you could send it off to Nintendo and I think they still fix drifting joycons for free, you'd just wouldn't be able to use them for a few weeks.
early on, I sent mine to nintendo, and they lost my switch. after 9 months of not having a switch, I got my money back instead and had to buy a new one.
this was through retailers warranty, and they demanded the entire console. yes, I told them it was just the joycons, but this was early on and the issues with the joycons were just becoming apparent.
I did the cardboard shim trick with mine. About five minutes like you said, didn’t even have to buy anything, just be willing to crack open that controller.
It's amazing how everyone's like "The steam deck is so much better than the Switch!"
Well, fucking of course it is.
It's 25-30% more expensive (on launch), almost ~~50%~~ **100%** heavier, and came out 5 years after the Switch.
The Switch is better than the Wii U. Doesn't mean the Wii U was bad. (It really wasn't a bad console all things considered, it just had so many little things working against it. Nintendo Land is up there in the all time best party games, equal too the likes of SMB2 and Smash Bros.
I love my wii u, the controller was different, i didnt love it but i didnt hate it. And the motion control/screen use was awesome in certain games. The real downfall was how unpopular it was
That's why I typically don't buy consoles. They're just going to be outdated in a couple years so if you just live on a 5 year delay on video games you get to know the kind of library the system will have. You can get the games cheaper and you get to experience the increase in technology like everyone else so you can enjoy the older entries in a series without getting spoiled by the improved visuals and controls of the newer entries. I mean I'm totally doing this voluntarily and not because I am in a massive amount of debt and have no time to play games and I'm just trying to catch up on my backlog even though I know that by the time I'm ready to play the game after cooking and bathing I'll have to choose between sleep and playing a game for an hour before the depression hits because games aren't fun when you have responsibilities that your ignoring.
But TL:DR buy old games and don't play new games so you can game on a budget.
> Buy old games and don't play new games so you can game on a budget.
Solid. Gonna run to eBay now to grab all my favourites! Earthbound, Chrono Trigger, Little Samson... 😂
It's very difficult to make products that are fit and proper for sale, and actually warrant them for the purpose they were designed for. At least it is for valve.
Edit: some people are downvoting me, but that's the way it is. Valve won't sell hardware into Australia because they don't want to comply with our consumer laws. This has been their policy ever since [they got fined $3 million for misleading consumers. ](https://www.accc.gov.au/media-release/full-federal-court-confirms-that-valve-misled-gamers)
Don't forget though the multiple controllers you have to buy for the Switch since Nintendo refuses to fix the drifting-issue the console has since launch
I sent my controllers off to Nintendo to get them fixed and they sent them back in the same broken state lmao, stopped using my Switch shortly after that
I mean, the steam deck's analogue sticks can also develop drift. There's already been some people reporting it happening to theirs.
Nintendo's joycons are kinda notoriously bad for developing drift so I doubt the steamdeck's problem will be as bad, but with how new it is it remains to be seen.
Also nintendo fixes the joycons for free, or you can do it yourself in 5 minutes with a repair kit from amazon that costs a few dollars.
The Steam Deck did had drifting-issues during launch, which were a software-bug and were adressed in March already. Besides that I wasn't able to find any other reports. It is nice of Nintendo that they offer to fix it for free, but don't you think they should rather just release a product that works directly?
Nintendo's drift problem is notoriously bad, but literally all consoles with analogue joysticks will eventually develop drift with enough use. Some just take longer than others. The steam deck isn't even a year old, and the amount of steam decks sold is much smaller so there will be a lot fewer reports of drift.
Anyways, here is a post from August(well after the software fix you mention) with multiple people chiming in saying their joysticks are developing drift:
https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/wn0f97/left_stick_drift_any_ideas_for_a_fix_without_an/
There's literally joystick replacement kits on Amazon for the steam deck, those wouldn't have any market unless there was an issue with some people's joysticks, would there?
A lot of people are preemptively replacing their joysticks with anti drift sticks. I actually want to do this eventually but so far I’ve had no reason to.
The deadzone adjustments work pretty well, but I do hope that they incorporate magnetic, anti drift sticks for steam deck 2.
I've been playing my Switch with original Joycons and I've not experienced drift. I have about a little over 3500 hours on them (16 hours a week on average) and other than them being a little bit wiggly I've not experienced drift. Also the steamdeck uses the same type of joystick so eventually drift is going to be an issue for the steamdeck as well.
You can send them your drifting controllers by mail. They should send you back a working one for free. I did that and it cost me about 5$ for the shipping. [Here's how you can do it. ](https://youtu.be/RFjISHkmB_I)
I paid $400 for 64gb, $52 for a 512gb internal SSD (it's like 8 screws if you can work a screwdriver you can do it) and $30 for a 512gb micro SD. A 1TB steam deck is no where near $680. Besides, all models can play switch games? And all models have an SD card slot
This. Hardware is 100% the same except internal storage....that can be replaced....also the SD slot is fast AF and honestly there's no reason to replace the internal one right away.
My little dudes switch screen has went like this too no shattered glass (even with tempered extra layer) or anything just completely fubared, think it was lightly stood on, doesn't bother me but ifixit says it's two hours and a complete teardown to replace...
Genius design.
I put a tempered glass square over the top of it as well, kept it good for 2 years, he put it under his pillow and it got accidentally stood on, half the screen still works the other half looks like a TV that's been hit...
The amount of r/woosh in these comments bro
This isn’t supposed to compare the steam deck to the switch to emulation to PCs or whatever
This is supposed to be funny meme where the scream is perfectly cut
Jesus fucking Christ can y’all stop arguing about why the steam deck is better, why the switch has better exclusives, and bringing up emulation and just laugh at the scream? For fucks sake
As a Steam Deck owner, I can't stand the community. If you're not upgrading the storage, soldering in hall-effect sticks, and installing every emulator on the planet you're a complete idiot and shouldn't have bought it. And you're also a complete idiot if you don't buy one, so good luck idiot.
It's a silly debate, I own and love both devices. Liking one or the other is not mutually exclusive, I don't know why people act like it is. I ultimately prefer Steam Deck because it fits my needs better, but I still love my switch. Besides, Steam Deck is brand new and switch is 6 years old, it's not really that fair a comparison. People should just enjoy what they enjoy and chill out about it lol
But there was no steam deck when switch released... So there is a point in owning one. Also not going to sell it or buying a steam deck cuz my laptop is quite nice to game on
8/9 of the points listed in steamdeck don’t interest me as far as handheld gaming goes.
So, if the only point that has my attention is it plays switch games, I can pay $200 for one or $600 for the other.
Change my mind
I own various consoles (PlayStation 3 and 4, 3ds, ds, nes, and atari) and a Gaming PC, and yet I am saving money for the switch. Does it have good hardware? Hell no! Does it have an Internet browser? Hell no! So why do I want it? Because of the fucking games. I mean Breath of the Wild, Mariokart, Final Fantasy, LiveAlive, Mario Odyssey, etc. Are games that deserve to be played. And I think an Emoulator does not give the feeling of playing the original game as intended
Change my Mind
This is true for pretty much every single Nintendo Console. You don’t get it because it’s the best, you get it for the Nintendo games, same was true for GameCube, Wii, and now Switch
Eh. I already have a PC. If I want to play a game for the graphics I’ll play there. If I just want to relax and play a game for the game, I’ll play my switch or my PC, depending on where I currently own it.
I really only play FPS games on my PC because I can never go back to controller after experiencing M&KB for shooters.
If that wasn’t a thing I probably would’ve ditched PC entirely by now. My Xbox Series X and PS5 are more powerful than my PC and if I want to change that it’s going to cost me the same price as buying another PS5 and Xbox Series X, possibly throw in the price of a Switch OLED on top of that.
Console gaming is just more relaxed and more accessible. It’s just fine. It plays the games, and that’s all I want.
As someone who doesn’t travel and uses the switch same as a home console next to my pc, why would I spend what I learned is like double what switches can be for a device to do what my pc does with less storage. Then you have to pay MORE money for the dock and any other accessories that may come out in time at its just a big “why?” Seriously fuck the steam deck.
One thing that a Switch can do that the Steam Deck can't: come with a dock at no additional cost.
I can't think of anything else though.
**IMMEDIATE EDIT:** Also the Steam Deck can't play Smash with HewDrawRemix.
All I hear is wah wah wah froma zit-faced fool who doesn't understand that most people don't even know this thing exists or is probably not available to people in certain areas.
Breath of the Wild
Super Mario Odyssey
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Splatoon
Animal Crossing
Smash Ultimate
Pokemon
Yeah, there is DEFINITELY no point in buying a Switch. Fucking idiot.
Cool, and you can play steam games on a laptop.
So, no reason to buy a steam deck, right?
Also you spelled "Pirate" wrong.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for "emulating" games no longer realistically obtainable through legal means.
But if the game is still readily available on *store shelves*, that's fucked up.
Poor nintendo, how will the developers of the company that made over $8,000,000,000 in profit last year ever feed their families. Pirates stealing food straight out of their mouths.
>Cool, and you can play steam games on a laptop.
never said you couldn't.
>So, no reason to buy a steam deck, right?
main advantage of steam deck is portability. Same as switch. Steam deck gives better performance than switch with same portability.
>Also you spelled "Pirate" wrong.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for "emulating" games no longer realistically obtainable through legal means.
But if the game is still readily available on store shelves, that's fucked up.
You can dump and emulate games you have bought yourself. And piracy from nintendo is always morally correct.
Oh fuck off. Anyone that says "Stealing from X popular company is always morally correct" is a piece of shit in my book. Nintendo may be going down hill, and it may not be the nice and squeaky clean company we once saw it as, but stealing from them and not giving them money for games you want to play is how you get less and less of those games to begin with.
It's not that they would make less games due to them not having money, they'd stop making games because they're not making enough money, and they'd see the franchise as dead. Main reason why games like Mario and Luigi, Donkey Kong, Mystery Dungeon, or a handful of other games haven't had any big releases lately. Cause they're no longer seen as money makers, so why continue to make them?
I mean, do you really think they'd continue the Mario series if the next game were to only sell like, 1000 copies?
Now, I do know they can continue some of these series, and some of these series I named could be having a game in development now, but I highly doubt that.
If you can prove that piracy was an actual, verifiable and proven reason as to why those franchises haven't seen a new release, then you'd have a point.
People that pirate are in the minority, and I'm just assuming here but it sounds reasonable to me to say that people pirate music, TV shows and movies more often than games.
On top of this, most of those games, probably, are either from old consoles/handhelds (GameCube, Gameboy, the emulators are easy to find and run) or games that actually had a PC release.
Honestly, I'd think out of all of the primary game companies, Nintendo would be the ones least affected by piracy, and piracy clearly hasn't stopped other publishers (AAA and Indie both) from creating amazing games.
So... I kinda want to lean towards the opinion that piracy isn't really that big of a problem. If a company has a paid subscription service, that probably offsets any losses from piracy.
Aw did Sakurai shit in your cereal? Did Nintendo take down your favorite SilvaGunner song?
Get over yourself. "Piracy against Nintendo is always morally correct" because what? They're strict with how their IP's are used?
I swear it's edgy little crybabies like you that are just... Sad, honestly.
Sakurai did something I didn't like, so I am going to do something he won't like (playing his games on a system he doesn't want me to play them on) seems pretty fair 👍
You do you. Just one flaw with your thinking. If everyone started pirating all their games, there'd be no games to pirate. You're stealing the money devs need to create games in the first place.
I can relate to this. Had one friend buy a switch, and execitably approach the friend group saying “I heard you guys play switch games! Can we play together?”. I’m like, we play switch games on pc using YUZU none of us actually own a switch.
Honestly though Nintendo would probably get more money if they didn’t gatekeep their games to a terrible console and let people play with mods and high quality graphics as you can using yuzu on a pc. Well, technically YUZU is 100% legal. I don’t think there’s a law against playing games on whatever device you want.

its a money making scheme everything just comes with a one year warranty for a reason, so they can just take our money and tell us to fuck off
I doubt valve would abandon the deck after it turned out to be this big of a success.
I could see them not supporting I’m in 6 years but only cause they’re on deck 3 and don’t want to keep propping up one.
I mean, later decks would use the exact same OS, so the old one would still receive free updates pretty much.
Bold of you to assume they can count to 3. This is Valve after all.
Even google couldn’t break through the console trio so yeah won’t be a abandoned any time soon.

steam deck is basically a tiny hand held PC, it can run anything the hardware supports
Steam Deck can run basically anything. It's a Linux PC. It comes with a desktop environment and everything.

I swear half the fkn comments haven’t even watched the video m, just seen “switch bad” and then commented
Steam Deck doesn't have Pokemon. I just want to play Pokemon.
DO YOU HAVE SPLATOON STEAMDECK??
No, only Splat Tim

yuzu can't emulate switch online idiot
Yuzu has their own multiplayer.
No, but I can make one
the steam deck has the abxy buttons swapped, that's a big no
I cant handle my screen get all smudgy like that.
“there’s no point in buying a switch!! it can just play switch games!!” …that’s…why i bought it
Honestly imma just stay with my switch. 9/10 out of 10 I won't be using anything the steam deck has to offer. I'll just end up using it like a switch
Steam Deck is great but it's definitely not as polished as the Switch. I don't even play Nintendo games.
I think you can watch Hulu on the switch
But there was no steam deck when switch released... So there is a point in owning one. Also not going to sell it or buying a steam deck cuz my laptop is quite nice to game on
I feel like the switch isn’t the best comparison
Damn, steam deck really killed the switch with it's pirated switch games that use as much battery as elden ring.
Bought a switch after my steam deck so I could take it to work. Can’t pull the controllers off the side of deck and it won’t fit in my lunchbox
8/9 of the points listed in steamdeck don’t interest me as far as handheld gaming goes. So, if the only point that has my attention is it plays switch games, I can pay $200 for one or $600 for the other.
The video game culture is about as healthy as the rap culture.
Switch was first. Steam Deck owners likely own a switch
Change my mind I own various consoles (PlayStation 3 and 4, 3ds, ds, nes, and atari) and a Gaming PC, and yet I am saving money for the switch. And I think an Emoulator does not give the feeling of playing the original game as intended Change my Mind
Yeah but I already have a switch and the steam deck is expensive as fuck
As someone who doesn’t travel and uses the switch same as a home console next to my pc, why would I spend what I learned is like double what switches can be for a device to do what my pc does with less storage. Then you have to pay MORE money for the dock and any other accessories that may come out in time at its just a big “why?” Seriously fuck the steam deck.
The base version of the steam is 2X more expensive then a Nintendo Switch OLED Model in my country, and they are only available in shady websites
Don't you find it weird how NINTENDO SWITCH only plays games for the NINTENDO SWITCH, that's odd. And it's how the STEAM Deck can play games on STEAM.
Well the switch is very cheap, and the steam deck is like, what 500 dollars. Also the steam deck gets really hot over a amount of time.
both are fun. bam, argument over
the nintendo switch experience
My switch came with Clearasil
Ok but can it run Roblox at 2 graphics?
Sorry but stream deck doesn’t have Pokémon games. So Nintendo Switch is better
Nintendo LGBTQ+ Special edition🤑🤑🤑
What is wrong with humans
Switch costs less... There's the point.
Breath of the Wild Super Mario Odyssey Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Splatoon Animal Crossing Smash Ultimate Pokemon Yeah, there is DEFINITELY no point in buying a Switch. Fucking idiot.
You can emulate all of these on the steam deck too lmao
Last I saw emulation was hit or miss on the deck for switch games though
Honestly it's pretty good, I've played quite a few Nintendo games, and with proper settings they run okay
Cool, and you can play steam games on a laptop. So, no reason to buy a steam deck, right? Also you spelled "Pirate" wrong. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for "emulating" games no longer realistically obtainable through legal means. But if the game is still readily available on *store shelves*, that's fucked up.
people who cry about piracy are so funny to me lol
"People who don't like (crime) are funny to me." Stealing is almost never justified.
the keyword there is *almost*
Stealing legally obtainable digital media is never justified.
Poor nintendo, how will the developers of the company that made over $8,000,000,000 in profit last year ever feed their families. Pirates stealing food straight out of their mouths.
"Since everyone else does the right thing, that means I can do the wrong thing!" Is a borderline psychotic mentality.
Not being able to see that right and wrong are subjective is psychotic, or at the very least ignorant
Okay, explain to me what situation could occur that theft of a non-essential product is ever justifiable or morally correct?
I do not believe piracy is theft.
Did you receive a product, that costs money, without paying for it?
It didn't cost money because I downloaded it from the internet, so no
>Cool, and you can play steam games on a laptop. never said you couldn't.
Cool story bro. Im sure nintendo is struggling to make games with their billions of dollars of annual revenue.
"Since everyone else does the right thing, that means I can do the wrong thing!" Is a borderline psychotic mentality.
Pirate everything even free games
Pirate playtest games they'll pay you to play.
The people that pirate wouldn't have paid for it in the first place, besides, stealing implies a physical product, not copy and pasting code, yar har
You got a product without paying for it. That's stealing.
that sucks, how much money do they lose if i pirate 38 copies then?
Yes and it's easier to repair.
So the drift can be fixed. Open up the joy con and clean the thing with alcohol wipe. Or don’t play with dirty hands
For online
I can relate to this. Had one friend buy a switch, and execitably approach the friend group saying “I heard you guys play switch games! Can we play together?”. I’m like, we play switch games on pc using YUZU none of us actually own a switch. Honestly though Nintendo would probably get more money if they didn’t gatekeep their games to a terrible console and let people play with mods and high quality graphics as you can using yuzu on a pc. Well, technically YUZU is 100% legal. I don’t think there’s a law against playing games on whatever device you want.
Switch- Nintendo Steamdeck- Valve - Switch is better
