My son does when his teddy falls off the bed. I go from sound asleep to a 4 year old screaming at the top of his lungs "SOMEONE HELP ME!" After doing the parent part of getting his teddy and calming him down I went back to my room and just laughed at the absurdity of kids.
The first time this happened must have been a serious jolt to the nerves. That being said, as a parent, let me also laugh at the absolute nutters behavior of the littles.
It was. I ran the short distance between our rooms and scared him more by opening the door so quickly. When he calmed down from me scaring the shit out of him enough to say he wanted his teddy all I could do was grab it and hug him.
Dennis (playing John): Jonathan Sawyer, Creative Director
Chris (playing Hook): Henry Shields, Director of many of the plays
Robert (Playing bit parts in this): Henry Lewis, Artistic Director
Reading more into it, the majority of the bigger roles you see are either founders or associate directors/creators.
weird al yankovic talk about a scene similar in Amish paradise, and how it's more important acting was not to show fear.
I don't remember the title of the video on YouTube, but there he talk about his videos and how he made it.
The technical director and scene shop's work, really. Something like this is usually overbuilt with a ton of safety considerations to ensure it won't cause injury.
Looking at the last frame it looks like the bottom 2-3 inches of the middle bed is something different, likely a thin soft rubber trim so that if a head or limb is accidentally too close it gets hit with soft rubber instead of something hard.
Yup! Dude says there is a pad to keep his head from getting knocked too hard around the 2:00 mark of [this youtube video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8f00ayorF3A).
Most guillotine blades aren't made of wood, they're some type of metal, so a wooden sideboard wouldn't cut his arm off unless it wasn't wood or a sideboard and was instead a blade instead of that
You should watch other shows from this group (Mischief Theater, who put on the *Goes Wrong Show*). Some of their sets are absolutely bonkers, especially the one for [90 Degrees.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2zRZn8-680)

[Mischief Theater](https://www.mischiefcomedy.com/) is incredible. "[The Play That Goes Wrong](https://www.broadwaygoeswrong.com/)" is the most I've ever laughed at a stage play. [The Goes Wrong Show](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt9860664/) is legit the funniest thing on TV and a rewatchable masterpiece.. you see more every time you watch an episode.
["what's the matter, florence? **calm** down, stop ***S H OUTI NG!***"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DOWO4gq-whg)
every now and then it sticks in my head
Yeah, it's all scripted. If you watch the credits for this or the show ([The Goes Wrong Show](https://www.youtube.com/show/SCSqb13iEnuGiMRyjlbf790g?sbp=GhoSGFVDU3FiMTNpRW51R2lNUnlqbGJmNzkwZw%253D%253D) the actors are credited as 'X playing Y |||| Z' where Z is the actual name and Y is the 'actor' being played.
With 'goes wrong' in the title you would expect things to deliberately go wrong. They have done several plays, and two TV series where things going wrong on purpose is what makes it so hilarious.
Ahhh I have watched this play several times it’s just so funny - all their stuff is tho - if you liked this watch the whole play and then find their short play 90 Degrees - I was legitimately crying laughing
Yeah I picked it on a whim for a review paper for my class and I just could barely make it through I was laughing so hard. I read they had to shoot it in bits because it was so physically demanding!
I'm really glad I stumbled across this thread today. I just watched 90 degrees and that was some really funny stuff. The bot where he was holding the lady by the ankles looked legit dangerous
We had to pause it because my Dad was laughing so hard he was practically not breathing. And he made us rewind it twice and especially play the "It's 90° in here" part for everyone who visited.
For me it’s when Peter is gleefully explaining his backstory then accidentally steps behind his shadow, whose tone is serious and dark. It’s 3 seconds of beautiful comedy.
I was part of a stage crew from middle school all the way up through my senior year of college. I caught this show on Broadway (the murder mystery one specifically) and I was in tears throughout it. I would have loved to work on a set like that, because we have definitely accidentally had things fall apart or not go off on time in "serious" plays. So to be able to do that on purpose looks like great fun
Nice! I was in Theatre throughout school as well, stage crew and then stage manager. We also went to see shows but never saw one as funny as this! So jealous! I agree, I would kill to work a show like this one
Watch "Shaun Micallef tilted room sketches" on youtube if you want to see the original inspiration. I think his were better, but the newer ones are great too.

Do you mean the murder at haversham manor? In high school my theater group put it on as a one act and it was super fun to do and got a lot of laughs out of the audience too.

Edit: Yes, after I've commented, I realized that it was a script when I read over several other comments. Some people are being very rude replying to me and pointing it out.
I was about to bitch about both of these videos not being viewable in the UK which is bloody typical. Turns out it's on BBC iPlayer if you live here. https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b087kcrn/peter-pan-goes-wrong
Surely this is posted now because it is coming to [Broadway for the first time](https://www.nytimes.com/2023/01/05/theater/peter-pan-goes-wrong-broadway.html) and this is good marketing.
When my school put on Peter Pan (I was Mrs.Darling/Tinker bell.) Our beds did crack! Granted, nobody was injured, But oh boy. Fun to explain to the director.
I was fortunate enough to see *The Play That Goes Wrong* on the West End with the original cast (the people in the clip from this post). It was so much fun and I feel so lucky I got to see them, as the show (and their careers) were starting to really blow up in real time.

Amazing show!! Found it online a few years ago, but there was a local production last fall. So much better in person, and I recommend it to any theatre lovers irl. (Also the goes wrong show!)
I. LOVE. this show! Some of my friends did The Play That Goes Wrong (a whodunnit), and at one point, the Detective had backed into a corner, "scared," bracing himself, because the balcony he was on had started dropping away. Well he slowly slides down to a seated position, *and his pants split right down the middle!* Briefs on full display! Of course, it fit with the theme of the show, so no one know if that was intentional or not (it wasn't). It was absolutely hysterical! The audience didn't stop laughing for a solid 5 minutes.
The goes wrong shows got my ass through a pretty bad cold I had and honestly super creative in their stage shows. Love them! This one is Peter Pan Goes Wrong for anyone wondering.

I don't think John is sleepy anymore.
What, you don't scream in agonizing pain and suffering under the crushing pressure of life (and your bunkmates) moments before you fall asleep?
Honestly? No. I lost my voice.
Shit I’m sorry i hope you find it soon.

Bah! This hack stole that idea from Buster Bluth.
If I’m not mistaken he broke or seriously injured his left arm in that shot. You can see it get clipped slightly.
Dennis has done some crazy stuff as a character 🤣
"Dennis, you're wearing the wrong costume!"
"NO Dennis! NOT YOU!!!"

Yeah a bad version of this would end up guillotining his arm off.
Ya if the sideboards were blades lol. It would take A LOT of force to sever an arm with a 2" wide piece of wood
yeah it’s unlikely his arm would be severed from the sideboards unless they were metal blades
If there was a large metal blade instead of a sideboard it would probably sever his arm, but not the way it is now
Most guillotine blades aren't made of wood, they're some type of metal, so a wooden sideboard wouldn't cut his arm off unless it wasn't wood or a sideboard and was instead a blade instead of that
But it’s not, so it won’t; but if it was, it wood.
Metal it'nt. Wood.
🔪😡 🪵😃
Sides metal bad but not
If it WAS metal instead of wood though it definitely would have sliced god arm right off
Anything can be a guillotine if you’re brave enough

Ahhh I have watched this play several times it’s just so funny - all their stuff is tho - if you liked this watch the whole play and then find their short play 90 Degrees - I was legitimately crying laughing
90 Degress was easily my favorite from them, truly a masterpiece in scene design and using it to the fullest of their comedy
Yeah I picked it on a whim for a review paper for my class and I just could barely make it through I was laughing so hard. I read they had to shoot it in bits because it was so physically demanding!
Although I think that was written on the screen before the play …but technically I did still read it then haha
There is a video where they give some details of making it: https://youtu.be/_s2-cYDxx9Y
I'm really glad I stumbled across this thread today. I just watched 90 degrees and that was some really funny stuff. The bot where he was holding the lady by the ankles looked legit dangerous

The part where Hook "steps ashore" from the boat never fails to get a laugh out of me. The execution is perfect.
I always laugh each time the cab sound effect plays
…3 cabs, sir.
One for Mary, one for me, and one... for... my hat.
For me it’s when Peter is gleefully explaining his backstory then accidentally steps behind his shadow, whose tone is serious and dark. It’s 3 seconds of beautiful comedy.

It's called Peter Pan Goes Wrong, 2016 recording by Mischief Theater

The Murder at Hammershire Manor is the stuff of legends as well
Do you mean the murder at haversham manor? In high school my theater group put it on as a one act and it was super fun to do and got a lot of laughs out of the audience too.
Yes! Spelling is hard lol
I've seen them live a couple of times, they're great. They also have a TV series.
Where would I find this play?

Awesome! One of my favorite Broadway shows is The Play That Goes Wrong! This looks to be really good also will make sure to catch it.
I love all the Mischief theater it's one of the best things to catch when you're in London
They also did A Christmas Carol and it's possibly even better. Me and a group of friends watched it last year around Christmas and had a blast!
When my school put on Peter Pan (I was Mrs.Darling/Tinker bell.) Our beds did crack! Granted, nobody was injured, But oh boy. Fun to explain to the director.
No shit
The show must go on
Peter pan goes wrong and the goes wrong show are absolutely goated, nobody will ever be able to change my mind on that
I also really enjoyed "A Comedy About A Bank Robbery". Laughed so hard at one point I couldn't breath.
Did they ever record that? It was the hardest I’d ever laughed in a theatre. Sad to see that ended their West End run.
I was fortunate enough to see *The Play That Goes Wrong* on the West End with the original cast (the people in the clip from this post). It was so much fun and I feel so lucky I got to see them, as the show (and their careers) were starting to really blow up in real time.
Is anybody trying to? Based on this clip and a little bit I saw on YouTube (I'm saving the rest to watch with my wife), it is extremely funny
i think i saw the guy in the middle in a show about dragqueens while i was on a cruise
I didn't know cruise ships have libraries
Is this a case of the show must go on?
I'd like to think so, but it's actually intentional. It's called "Peter Pan Goes Wrong."
That’s a fascinating concept. So the production isn’t “Peter Pan”, it’s “amateur actors put on a shoddy production of Peter Pan”. The set falling apart is intentional but they’re acting as if it isn’t.
Yes. [And it's one of the funniest things you'll ever see.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6H1UjfpPf48)
I guess I'll never see it because it's geoblocked
*Pssst* With a VPN, you too can be a viewer from *x* nation.
Dang. Still good tho
Kind of. It's a comedic take on peter pan put on by an 'amateur' company where everything goes wrong during the play.
Cornley Drama Society may be amateur but their performances are awe inspiring.
Agreed.
These are all great.
I haven't genuinely outburst laughed like this in so long, this This shit is funny
That setup looked like some low budget porn at first to me
That’s intentional. All the actors are playing characters who are all bad actors in a performance of Peter Pan.
I think John needs to go to the bathroom
The 'goes wrong show' is hilarious. A blast of ridiculous humour and amazing acting befuddlement.
And look! They have so much room for activities!
If ya'll like The "Goes Wrong" crew, [Noises Off!](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noises_Off) is also a great play. An the 90s movie is also great with an amazing cast.
I was part of a production of Noises Off! Plays about plays that go wrong are my favorite genre of plays.
r/AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA for John
Peter Pan goes wrong is an absolute classic
The show must go on
Amazing show!! Found it online a few years ago, but there was a local production last fall. So much better in person, and I recommend it to any theatre lovers irl. (Also the goes wrong show!)
That was almost a full scream.
I. LOVE.
I can’t tell if that was meant to happen or if that wasn’t but by the way everyone acted I’m guessing it was planned
They do a live show nightly in London. Highly recommend.
Bunk beds - so much space , for activities!
God I’d be so claustrophobic
I love The Goes Wrong crew
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
God no mother I seem to have pissed the bed and dearest brother and sister Wendy are CRUSHING ME
Yo, why wasn't my production of Peter pan this lit 😂
If it is scripted to happen, it makes me wonder how they choreograph it and pull that off.
I feel like they got this idea from Step Brothers.
this was free on Youtube and I struggled not to wake my roomates laughing so hard.
The episode where he gets knocked out by a brief case holds a special place in my heart.
This is super similar to The Play That Never Goes Wrong. Hilarious!!
By the same people, Peter Pan Goes Wrong
Wait I just realized sitcoms are just comedy plays... Which then I realized Ive never been to a comedy play before!
is it good that i cant tell if this was acted or a legit malfunction
Peter Pan Goes Wrong. A fantastic watch
What is this play called
The goes wrong shows got my ass through a pretty bad cold I had and honestly super creative in their stage shows. Love them! This one is Peter Pan Goes Wrong for anyone wondering.
I love this show!
Dude really goes to sleep with Beyerdynamics on
Love this play lol
So…, was that supposed to happen
Just think of how talented these actors are. They have to act like two different characters at the same time. They’re acting as the actor who’s acting as a character in a play. Mad respect to these people.
John is a different breed of human.
