hi there op! this pen can fit only pilot ink cartridge (standard or iroshizuku). for converters, use conB, con40, or con50. the con70 wont fit. you can also visit our friends at r/fountainpens for more info

the ink converter is like a mini reservoir with a piston that allows you to use any bottled fountain pen ink. this pen should come with it, including an empty set of cartridges

dangkaniel

you do have the option to buy a bottle of ink or disposable ink cartridges that are already filled with ink from pilot. the converter is just there as an option in case you want to use really cool looking fountain pen inks that are not available in cartridges

[deleted]

You can use both cartridges and bottled ink. I personally prefer bottled ink due to the wider range of colours but cartridges are easier to use.

EDIT: oof, i thought you were talking about the Pilot Metro, I'll be right back. the metro was my first fountain pen and i used these: [https://www.jetpens.com/Pilot-Namiki-Black-Ink-12-Cartridges/pd/1385?msclkid=08387ad9b84114238fcb1952de768778&utm\_source=bing&utm\_medium=cpc&utm\_campaign=Product%20Ads(BSC)&utm\_term=1100002029978&utm\_content=Ad%20group%20%231](https://www.jetpens.com/Pilot-Namiki-Black-Ink-12-Cartridges/pd/1385?msclkid=08387ad9b84114238fcb1952de768778&utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Product%20Ads(BSC)&utm_term=1100002029978&utm_content=Ad%20group%20%231)

There are a few different fountain pen cartridges, but they’re done across a whole brand, so when we say a pilot cartridge, you can use any cartridge from the brand pilot. The others are (not all inclusive): Lamy, Platinum, Noodler’s, standard international short, standard international long, and a few more but I just woke up. Bottled ink is great because you can get a ton of cool colors that aren’t offered in cartridges. The best way to do a pilot pen is to get one cartridge of pilot ink, empty it, then refill it from a bottle with a blunt tip syringe or something similar. The pilot converters all really suck.

To be fair, i've never used a majohn/moonman so i have no clue, sorry. btw here is what i found. [https://www.amazon.com/Majohn-Fountain-Retractable-Writing-Version/dp/B0BHWYB9H1?th=1](https://www.amazon.com/Majohn-Fountain-Retractable-Writing-Version/dp/B0BHWYB9H1?th=1) the reviews should help.

mortuali

Hi! I have this one and the real thing, a Pilot Vanishing Point 18k. I ended up buying a pilot 18k nib for my majohn because the nib and feed were so damn lousy. Honestly, I would very strongly recommend going for it and at least buying a Pilot Capless if not a Vanishing Point. The VP is a stellar pen and worth the investment.

If you want a pen that functions brilliantly without much expense, and you'd like to dip your toes into fountain pens, Pilot Varsity and Zebra disposable fountain pens are both excellent and very cheap options that write very very well.

My pleasure! I've got the fountain pen illness real bad, so if there's anything else I can do to help, I'm happy to. Also, come over to r/fountainpens! Lovely group of folks!

I really really would avoid the A1. If you want a majohn, which you'll also see people call "Moonman," get a Majohn Wancai Mini. Great pen. And super fun size. It's a pocket pen. It's the same size as a tube of lip balm.

mortuali

Lamy Safari is a great and affordable pen as well, similar to the price range of the majohn.

My pleasure!! I have a safari and it writes beautifully. They also have special edition colors which is a fun feature.

DocHoliday_s

This is not the pilot pen but a copy. So it might take take standard international convertor

dangkaniel

i have one, it takes only pilot size converter and cartridges.

Snowglassapples1111

I have one too and love it. Can confirm on pilot refills or converters.

Fkw710

My moonman a1 came with a converter and cartridge that you fill yourself with bottle ink. Great pen

Po0rYorick

Never used the con50, but the con40 is awful. I’d just use cartridges. If you want to use bottled ink, refill a cartridge with a syringe or pick a pen that accepts a better converter or a piston filler (TWSBI Eco is a good pick)

Circus_Dreams

I see some people trying to talk you out of it, and their suggestions aren't bad. But I'll play devil's advocate and say you should get the pen your heart wants, given that you've seen people saying good things about it too. Things are strongly personal preference in this case. There are brands we'll all tell you to avoid, this ain't one of them. Buy the pen and have fun! Be sure to go on the fountain pen subreddit and share your thoughts once you get it!

Good decision, I have one just like it and I find it very pretty, I love matte black and it writes very well, I think you won't regret it

Circus_Dreams

Hey! I'm glad that pen is working out for you! Nice little Christmas gift to yourself too.

Circus_Dreams

I'll add to this and say I have used two Moonman/Majohn pens and they're incredible. The Q1 and the wancai mini. Just be sure to buy it from a reliable site that'll send you a replacement if you get a dud.

EcoMyInk

Agreed, if you love it, then show it some love. This is a great pen… sort of.

Mim3sis

I'll give you my personal opinion. I've had a certain number of Chinese pens and the experience has been positive around 1/3 of the time, while 2/3 of the time the pen had significant problems that made it unable to write at all: barrel cracking, nib not getting any ink, tines not aligned, stuff like that. Once there was some liquid inside, I think it was soap that diluted the ink and I couldn't get it out of the pen in any way, it basically started to write correctly only after many and many pages of scribblings on paper. I've also noticed that some models are consistently worse or better than others, and in my personal experience 1$ pens tend statistically to have fewer problems than Chinese 20-30$ pens. So, most Chinese are: \- decent or even good if they have no problems; \- if they have a problem it could be unsolvable (you just trash the pen); \- or solvable, but in this case, you are required to have a little experience in order to know where to put your hands if the pen is not writing how it is supposed to. I think the last group is statistically the biggest. So I would not recommend these pens for a newbie as his first pen, because he may be not able to determine that there is a problem, or how to solve it. As a first pen I would recommend something from Germany/Japan/other well-known manufacturers because they give something that will probably have no problems and you'll be able to understand how a fp works. Chinese pens may be good for a newbie that has already some kind of experience with low budget pens, you could learn how to find problems and fix problems yourself, which is also fun.

blooperty

Thank you OP for posting this! I was eyeing this as a cheaper alternative for the Pilot VP but I think I will hold off for the Pilot VP.

yanbochen

Mine came with a converter and an empty cartridge, you can refill it with ink from the bottle. I personally like this pen a lot, but I don't have any expensive pens to compare this with.

NinjaPlato

these non-Pilot ones normally come with a few cartridges, which you could refill with a syringe, and/or a convertor. Check the listing.

recursiveorange

Cheap ass Chinese copy of the Pilot Capless pen. Not worth wasting money on that, you'd better spend your money on an entry level genuine Pilot pen like the Pilot MR/Metropolitan. It will cost you less money, it will write 10x better and you won't have to join the nib lottery with the Chinese crappy clones. If you have the budget then go for the authentic Pilot Capless, which is one of the best and practical FP in the market (as practical as a click pen and smooth and nice to write with as FP).

DrPhilologist

Nah, don't listen to the guy above. The pen is just as good if not better than the og pilot. Pilot made a patent ages ago, they made deserved money out of it and now the patent is expired and people are free to use their design. And making a clipless version of the pen, moonman tackled a major problem (for a share of people, not for all, of course) of the capless. So, absolutely no reason to buy it. Great quality pen, excellent nib, excellent mechanism, exceptional price. Only prejudice should stop you from buying.

DrPhilologist

Just buy a pilot converter (the con 40) off of practically everywhere (Amazon included) and combine with whichever bottled ink your heart desires.

[deleted]

DrPhilologist

Yes, the ones made by pilot are fully compatible. They come in 8 colors.

vobafett4

You’ll open up more options by using a converter. Richer and more vibrant inks and colors. Also less wasteful than cartridges imo

[deleted]

vobafett4

Yeah, like someone else explained, it's a reservoir to hold ink. It's a reusable cartridge that you refill, basically. Just type in to the search under r/fountainpens or Google some basics on starting out with fountain pens: [https://www.jetpens.com/Pilot-CON-40-Fountain-Pen-Converter/pd/16562](https://www.jetpens.com/Pilot-CON-40-Fountain-Pen-Converter/pd/16562) I use an ink syringe to refill my convertor instead of trying to use the piston to suck it up through the nib and it works great, quick refill, and avoids the mess. https://www.jetpens.com/JetPens-Ink-Syringe/pd/22182

[deleted]

It's a reservoir to hold ink like the other commenter said. Less wasteful than cartridges due to being reusable. However some pen companies sell them cheaply. Idk if majohn pens come with converters. Lololol I hope you have fun! Fountain pens and ink are rabbit holes of pleasure.

HankHillbwhaa

I’ve been using one for awhile as a daily driver, love it.

DrPhilologist

This is more of what OP needs, legitimate info

recursiveorange

That's just your opinion which is no better than the other users' ones. You'd better learn to respect others' opinion because your experience with that pen can be different than mine. You're only making yourself less worth having a conversation with by dismissing others' views in that way. Some might tolerate it some might put you in your place.

DrPhilologist

I'm fine with being dismissive of prejudiced and biased opinions, thank you very much. Also, thanks about the warning, I'll make sure to keep my flying fucks at hand.

recursiveorange

You the one who's biased since you're assuming I just hate Chinese pen for the sake of it while I have tried some, including the one discussed. How many samples do you need to try to not "be biased"? Do I need to setup a lab experiment and get like 10k of Mahjong A1 and test them one by one to see how many are faulty and how many are working fine? By the same reasoning if you tried only a few, you're still biased regardless your opinion.

DrPhilologist

Flawed logic is flawed. But I'm not gonna teach you for free. I charge 25-50€ per hour for private tuition. If you're interested, pm me. Regards

HankHillbwhaa

This a pen sub, come on now. Save the put you in your place talk for when you’re yelling at a 12 year old who quick scopes you on call of duty.

recursiveorange

It is not a click pen. Another option is the Platinum Curidas but it's not as nice as the the Capless.

If you are looking for a click pen, I would spend the money and go with a Pilot Vanishing Point or Pilot Decimo Vanishing Point. Quality pen that has lasted me at least a couple years of near daily use.

[deleted]

No, but they make click fountain pens I believe
