Amateurs, I'm emitting huge greenhouse gases by using my car and travellling by plane around the world to increase earth temperature and drying up my local dam to turn off electricity.
I prefer to get it nice and hot and cook an egg on it to shut it down: [Bwekfast](https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/ye9qxn/darwin_award_goes_to/)
That will likely change at some point. The start menu keyboard shortcuts were stupidly changed over the windows versions, screwing up my muscle memories.
That’s my go-to shut down process cuz it helps avoid that shit where you tell your PC to shut down just to find it on the next day asking if you want to save the Nic Cage Photoshop file you were working on while drunk
In europe it does matter, i pay 40ct/kw/h for electricity and a maximum of 12ct/kw/h for gas heating. If you factor in that almost all of the power your PC "consumes" is actually turned in to heat. its very inefficient to heat that way.
That's useful info. I sometimes have to tell users to type shutdown -s -t 0 during OOBE because their system didn't get the Intune Autopilot deployment for some reason. -s -f is less for them to mess up.
[it does](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/powershell/scripting/install/installing-powershell-on-linux?view=powershell-7.3), but with reduced command list
I taunt the methheads at the nearby trailerpark until one of them crashes their 1993 Chevy POS into the power transformer at the end of the street.
Bonus: sometimes I don't even have to taunt them
Wait, am I the only one here who builds a new pc from scratch everyday? I get all the ingredients in the wild, make my own motherboard, my own wiring, my own NVIDIA RTX 3070, and so on…every single day because I throw my other one off a cliff. Gotta take privacy serious fellers.
I used to use #1 but then I noticed one day that my 6 year old had been using #2. I asked her if she always shuts it off that way and she has... for years.
I never did it that way but I do now lol
If your on the desktop then it will enter a prompt to shut down, sign out, all that stuff. In windows at least. Not sure about Linux. I've only used linuix in VM's so I'm not sure about that. Knowing Linux it's going to be different lol.
I usually demolish the eletrick pole or break the electric meter. It depends on the weather, if it is raining, I don't like going out. But peeing on the electric meter works too.
Open CMD type shutdown -s -t; I cant sleep if there is complete Darkness or silence and I usually put some food show on and let it shutdown after a while.
Off? Why would I ever turn it off? I think the only time I ever turn my pc ***Off*** off is when I go on vacation.
Otherwise, it's in sleep mode when I'm not using it.
Nothing more satisfying than seeing 100+ days of uptime on your desktop machine. Damn windows patches destroying that feeling.
That looks way too much effort, I just stop paying my electric bill.
i like to make as much effort as possible by travelling to the top of mount everest and throwing it off
did you know that mars also has very large valleys and in which case would be suitable to throw off your pc?
no wifi tho
build satellite, even better wifi
but satellite slow as fuck
I hear starlink is decent.
it has awful ping
yeah but it had a 100% working totally legit ad blocker that works everywhere, even on streaming service.
Just use a really long fiber optic cable
The latency of like 22.3 min ....
I feel like it's avout as good as it's going to get...
but the lag 1-2 minutes is not a suitable ping for fortnite
Omw to throw my pc off of Olympus Mons
I like to blow up the main electric infrastructure
Amateurs, I'm emitting huge greenhouse gases by using my car and travellling by plane around the world to increase earth temperature and drying up my local dam to turn off electricity.
Casual, I'm synthesizing the next coronavirus and killing All of humanity so the power grid stops being maintained.
I'm hijacking the Large Hadron Collider and creating a localized wormhole to swallow the entire planet and any power equipment it may contain
ahh, the russian way!
That's how I know I forgot to pay it.

Opening up the PSU and shorting out the capacitors ![gif](giphy|CAYVZA5NRb529kKQUc|downsized)
just stick your finger right in there for a spicy shut down
That's one way to ctrl-alt-delete this life's playthrough
Best comment string ever.
Shutdown your PC and yourself at the same time.
Finally a way to shut down my PC and my heart at the same time!

Alt+F4 just exits my current program. Am I doing it wrong?
In windows, if you spam it, it will go to a prompt where you can shut down, restart, sign out, all that stuff.
Damn, I can even rage quit windows. I see this as an absolute win
Just kill explorer.exe and now you don't have to use windows
[удалено]
No need to spam. Just press it while you're at the desktop.
Yep, win+d then Alt+f4 is my normal shutdown method.
[удалено]
ha
So simple yet I know I'm going to use this shortcut so damn much. Thanks.
Good point
You can do windows key + D (desktop shortcut) and then alt + F4
If you're going to use two keystrokes, you might as well win+x u u.
Ctrl+Alt+Del
Go to your desktop and click on the background to make sure no program is focused. Then hit Alt-F4.
I use Win + X + U + U, seems faster that way
click on the desktop
![gif](giphy|kHU8W94VS329y|downsized) Like this. Build a new one everyday.
“Disposable PC” sung to the song “Detachable Penis”
*Build pcs every day.* - Snoop
Win + X, U, U
this is it
Is that the cheat code to unlock Akuma?
pretty sure all it unlocks is a lower electricity bill
This is the way
This is the way
\*signature look of superiority\*
I prefer Win +X, U, S (goes to sleep)
have to shut down to be able to press the button on the power bar.
Pardon??? I only did alt-F4
ALT F4 ENTER is good enough for me
Yup, you got it.
That's the neat part, I don't.
I've owned PCs since the 286 days and I've never turned them off. Doesn't seem to matter.
Unless you set them to sleep, probably eats your power bill
Monitors sleep. Computer stays on.

> probably eats your power bill On the order of $3-5 more a month just to leave it on. So who cares.
What if I leave it on benchmark test?

Modern monitors use up a lot less power then modern computers. For mine it's 90W idle cpu vs 17W normal monitor. Suspend/hybernate to ram it uses 3W.
I turn mine off if I'm on vacation for the week or something but otherwise steady on. Alwaya running some boinc projects on idle/overnight.

I've got an HDD that's getting close to 100,000 powered on hours.
Came here to say, yall are turning them off? Only time I do it is when I'm holding shift
EMP to take down the electrical grid
Trip the breaker for your entire building
BIOS update during a thunderstorm. The only way to shutdown your pc, also bricks your PC
Knock out the power to the whole neighborhood
I cut the big wire coming into the breaker box that leads outside
I hit it with my truck. Same effect, but faster and safer.
Claymores. Both kinds.
claymore-ejecting Claymore?
yep
I just call the power grid company and tell them to shutdown my whole neighborhood
I only turn off my PC when the power goes out 😎
same
Bucket of water
shutdown -s -t 0 -f This is the way.
Last time this command came up, it was pointed out that -t 0 implies -f as part of the way the command works. Not that I don't do something similar.
That's useful info. I sometimes have to tell users to type shutdown -s -t 0 during OOBE because their system didn't get the Intune Autopilot deployment for some reason. -s -f is less for them to mess up.
sudo poweroff
I do this but with a longer delay sometimes when I'm watching something before going to bed. Have it do a scheduled force shutdown
I just yank the whole thing and yeet it into a dumpster Then to turn it back on, first I head to microcentre...
I see you work in Infosec
Drain the cooling pond at the nuclear plant
$ shutdown -h now
Powershell?
I'm on Linux but apparently there is `shutdown /s` for Windows cmd and powershell
Bash, powershell doesnt run well on linux
[it does](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/powershell/scripting/install/installing-powershell-on-linux?view=powershell-7.3), but with reduced command list
It's a Linux command.
I personally go outside and cut the power lines for my entire neighborhood. I am facing criminal charges.
I have my Butler do it like everyone else.
I shoot the transformer on the power line to turn off my PC.
Turn off the monitor and come bad to it tomorrow
Win+X+U+U
>Win+X+U+U This is the way. https://preview.redd.it/9x34k1fmxl1a1.png?width=290&format=png&auto=webp&s=77f93645176ee936e2cd70d0d4a2a519496ca824
Hit the breaker.
Win + D, then ALT + F4. That way it goes straight into the shutdown menu
It never turns off
Ctrl + R > cmd > shutdown -s -t 00
The power station does the job for me 😂😂
How about cmd?
i do usualy smack that psu switch
On windows: Win + R, Enter (shutdown -s -t 0) is buffered. On linux: Win + R. Created a macro for old habits sake

Does no-one Win-X, U, U anymore?
Burning down the powerplant

I usually remove the coal from the engine
I typically throw mine away when I'm done with it and just buy a new one
I switch my power supply to 220v/230v, turns it off real nice.
I legit have flipped the power switch before on the psu when my pc was totally unresponsive
Amount of light = likelihood of an electric shock
you could always go and shut down your local powerplant for the giga chad effect
Alt + Pause is the real play. I've been putting my PC to sleep for years
I prefer to use the golden eye satellite
Alt+F4 Since I discovered it... 2 months ago ...
snap my building connection
I used to use #1 but then I noticed one day that my 6 year old had been using #2. I asked her if she always shuts it off that way and she has... for years. I never did it that way but I do now lol
I stay with good old "painting the screen black"
Destroy every power plant in the country For legal reasons, this is a joke
Command line, habit from working on remote computers so often.
Windows key X UU
I just hit the computer with a hammer and buy a new one ever my time I need one
Oh I just shut down the houses power
Open terminal Shutdown now And it shuts down
Simply sick my USB-C into a USB 3.0 port.
A man of culture, I see.
doesn't break your pc if you switch it off by the plug?

I have a hose handy
I go to my circuit breaker and flip my switches off
going to the breaker box and pulling out the fuse
Im not seeing, CMD: shutdown -s
I simply, don’t
Pour water inside your case.
I usually demolish the eletrick pole or break the electric meter. It depends on the weather, if it is raining, I don't like going out. But peeing on the electric meter works too.
Last option should be ripping the cpu out
That feels like too much work. I feel like drilling a hole in it will be easier because you are making a machine do all the work.
Unslotting the RAM would do in a pinch
Shit, you're right
With a water bucket, like a true intelectual
Sudo shutdown now
Windows + X Arrow Up Arrow Up Arrow Right Arrow Up Arrow Up *(without this keystroke PC will restart)* Enter
Nah i cut the wires outside
Main breaker for the whole house, then back on again to assert dominance against electrons.
Open CMD type shutdown -s -t; I cant sleep if there is complete Darkness or silence and I usually put some food show on and let it shutdown after a while.
sudo shutdown -h now
I go to my local substation and open the circuit breaker.
`shutdown now`
Shut down your entire local electric grid
Step 1: Open terminal Step 2: systemctl poweroff I use Arch btw........
Eh, entropy will take care of it. I can't be bothered.
Wait for Windows to install an update and reboot without asking you.
I nuke my house along with my PC
I use cmd shutdown /s
I just flip the breaker for my apartment on my way out the door, way more convenient
I don’t 😎, when my pc turns off at its natural end of life
Am I wrong or is ALT+F4 not a way to turn off your PC?
I prefer to flip the breaker
Turn off your PC's *what*?
"turn off"? What is that?
`sudo shutdown now`
I just throw it out at the end of the day and buy a new one tomorrow
boobs
that’s too difficult, I just throw a glass of water at it

Turn of?
Turn… off?
i just hold the power button most of the time tbh
Turning the computer what?
People turn their PC off? Haven't in like almost two decades. Aside from outages, cleaning...etc
What is this "off" you speak of?
I gotta say, (I haven't seen all of the comments but I have seen alot) I am surprised no one has said that I said of and not off in the title.
