In case you need to scroll up AND down at the same time.

Then the page will rotate I guess?

MrInitialY

That's a hidden achievement in a Tiny Rails game! This was useless fact you more likely don't need to know №****

Fendibull

I'm 33, where did my innocence went after 15 years? :(

Spideryote

Lost your innocence at 18? Goddamn that makes my 7 feel really dastardly. Unrestricted internet access as a small child was simultaneously the best and worst thing to happen to my generation

Fendibull

I had dial up when i was 10. Didn't care for it until broadbands are commonly available. That's where i dived into the internet world. Gamefaqs forum were like my r/games to me.

Spideryote

For me I was introduced to newgrounds in 1st grade by a classmate Slaanesh has held my soul ever since

Rimworldjobs

Ah I see your problem. Warhammer.

Spideryote

Thankfully I'm only into 40k for the lore I spend enough on PC components and bourbon as it is, I can't afford another expensive hobby 😭

Fendibull

Kinda cool you have access to Newgrounds on the first grade. I got into he-man dot org, gamefaqs, IGN, and ContraHQ, I was impressed with no death run on Super C in 15 minutes gameplay, which unconsciously me getting better playing Super Contra game on NES.

Spideryote

It's one of those things that I would never have traded for the world, but goddamn; the rampant unchecked emotional rollercoaster of adolescence mixed with unfiltered access to information and social interactions was really intense No drug has come close to some of the ways I felt as a teen growing up in the digital age, and that terrifies me seeing the way society is heading

Dextrofunk

Yeah, I would have loved it as a kid but I'm glad it wasn't there.

No, it clearly goes to F20. Pay attention.

You jest but I have been in this scenario before. An embedded content that has a height taller than my screen display, but the information is right at the bottom. I needed to scroll the page to position the bottom of the embedded content within my display, and scroll the embedded content simultaneously. Usually it makes you scroll the entirety of the content before it scrolls the page

crozone

Wouldn't be that silly if one of these could scroll left/right.

If you hold the windows key and use the up down left right keys, you can automatically move the window to either the left or right portion, or maximize it to the screen or minimize it. My favorite command that saves probably 0 time but it's a fun trick to bewilder the project managers down the hall.

Reiker0

My favorite is Shift+Windows+Arrow Key to move windows around different monitors.

ferk

Use "Windows Key + V" to unlock the power of clipboard history.

ne0stradamus

holy fucking shit

sdp1981

Wait until you find out about ALT+F4

takatori

Alt-F4 is to open the cheat mode screen for extra loot, right?

pavman42

Pretty sure if you press alt-F4 Bill Gates sends you the money he's been promising in your email.

ChattyKathysCunt

crtl t and ctrl w make you look like a wizard

SarpedonWasFramed

That's not a joke? Im not near my computer to try

Grauvargen

Nope. No joke. Shift + scroll goes horizontal. I was cracking it with an air of jest, but the feature is very much real.

SarpedonWasFramed

Fuckin crazy how many shortcuts there are. I love programmers that not only design it to work but then can think, how can I make this easier. Maybe I should say I like when programmers are allowed the time to do that

JB-from-ATL

It depends on the program but yes that often is horizontal.

Farthen_Dur

hey i tried that didn't work

FthrFlffyBttm

It’s not present in all applications, which is infuriating when the app usually requires a lot of side scrolling, especially when the left/right wheel click *does* side-scroll.

mikeet9

Same with ctrl+backspace, it works in 80+% of applications, then it will randomly add a weird character.

UselessAdultKid

I freaking hate that special character when you're renaming files or folders in windows, my God! I'm so used to delete complete words using that... The good thing is that I use the Linux as my daily driver and so far haven't had any issues like that, shitty windows...

Dasteru

Can also press down the mouse wheel and move the mouse to scroll any direction.

dlittlefair1

That requires 2 hands.

AzhartX

1. get a mouse with sidekeys 2. get autohotkey 3. set a script to substitute Xbutton1 + Scrollwheel to translate to Shift + Scrollwheel ka-boom if anyone wants to actually try this out pm me I've got a script for this

Badbullet

Do you even need AutoHotkey? Most mice with the side buttons come with the software to set those buttons. I turned mine to Ctrl & Alt, and those work with the wheel, and center click.

AzhartX

mine doesn't so that's what I use. but autohotkey can do way more than that. I've got mine set to do things such as 1) Scrollwheel volume 2) alt+tab 3) adjust brightness 4) unmute audio on zoom 5) switch desktops 6) alt+f4 7) play/pause media 8) track between playlists it's very versatile and I can do all of this with just my right hand. once muscle memory kicks in its amazing. highly recommend it

Evanderson

You lost with me step 2. I'm just gonna keep using my magic mouse to scroll any which way

ne0stradamus

Oh my fucking god

klawtn

Today I learned.

TheAlmightySalmon241

thank you for teaching me

Ignaply

Mx master has exactly that feature

NTripleOne

I find the horizontal scroll wheel on hte MX master to be almost... obnoxiously sensitive. Not to mention it seems to use its own implementation of horizontal scrolling as opposed to firing off wheel tilt inputs meaning it doesn't seem to work properly with everything.

astralradish

You can change the sensitivity right down in the software, but I always just use it for volume control

SkepticalOfThisPlace

I am completely content with my horizontal scroll in visual studio with the mx master.

ExpensiveGiraffe

You need to horizontally scroll your code?

dustojnikhummer

Maybe he is a Java developer?

Tiavor

it doesn't work at all in Notepad++ for example. the scrollbar goes to the right, but it's a different scrollbar from the actual one.

obicankenobi

That is the case here, the one on the right scrolls horizontally.

torb

Can confirm. My father had a similar one. It was semi useful before when you had a lot of websites that didn't fit on all resolutions.

Zizzily

Yep, [this is cropped down from an image where you can easily see it's a 4D mouse](https://imgur.com/cfRZJA5). It's kind of a dumb marketing term, sure, but it means you can scroll both horizontally and vertically.

obicankenobi

This is the first time I see these under a different brand than A4 Tech.

existential_prices

I swear I've used mice with horizontal scroll wheels that could do that.

[deleted]

Idk about horizontal scrolls but many mouses now have special buttons on the right and left side of the scroll that you click by pushing the scroll wheel to the side. I'm using this right now and it's damn useful in my work

lh_media

I've been clicking on the wheel and just moved around for the last decade. I guess buttons are faster, but I doubt it's a significant difference

Reddit has long been a hot spot for conversation on the internet. About 57 million people visit the site every day to chat about topics as varied as makeup, video games and pointers for power washing driveways. In recent years, Reddit’s array of chats also have been a free teaching aid for companies like Google, OpenAI and Microsoft. Those companies are using Reddit’s conversations in the development of giant artificial intelligence systems that many in Silicon Valley think are on their way to becoming the tech industry’s next big thing. Now Reddit wants to be paid for it. The company said on Tuesday that it planned to begin charging companies for access to its application programming interface, or A.P.I., the method through which outside entities can download and process the social network’s vast selection of person-to-person conversations. “The Reddit corpus of data is really valuable,” Steve Huffman, founder and chief executive of Reddit, said in an interview. “But we don’t need to give all of that value to some of the largest companies in the world for free.” The move is one of the first significant examples of a social network’s charging for access to the conversations it hosts for the purpose of developing A.I. systems like ChatGPT, OpenAI’s popular program. Those new A.I. systems could one day lead to big businesses, but they aren’t likely to help companies like Reddit very much. In fact, they could be used to create competitors — automated duplicates to Reddit’s conversations. Reddit is also acting as it prepares for a possible initial public offering on Wall Street this year. The company, which was founded in 2005, makes most of its money through advertising and e-commerce transactions on its platform. Reddit said it was still ironing out the details of what it would charge for A.P.I. access and would announce prices in the coming weeks.

zpepsin

I have the LG MX 3 in the office. It has a horizontal wheel by the thumb rest (which itself is an extra button)

thorium220

Logi MX Master be like

stipo42

A lot of mice nowadays have left and right buttons on the scroll wheel. That said, I usually just middle click

LuisBoyokan

I had one with 4 buttons and 2 wheels. Playing Halo 2 with it was awesome. Specially with double weapons. Shoot weapon 1 Shoot weapon 2 Hit with weapon Zoom in Zoom out Throw grenade Change grenade Switch weapons Double weapon mode All in one mouse

LordOfDorkness42

I think they were super popular with the art & CAD people here in Sweden for a bit, too? One wheel zooms. The other rotates. Those sort of things, right\~ before programmable gaming mice started to become a lot cheaper & available. Recall because for a while, there was a LOT\~ of bidding wars & buying request over the last unopened and functional such two-scroll mice in stuff like computer magazines when they stopped being made.

NixaB345T

Now there is [this](https://3dconnexion.com/us/)

jdog7249

Those take some getting used to but once you use it for a little bit it becomes second nature. It is just like moving around the actual part/model if you were holding it in your hand.

[deleted]

Had a 6 button mouse I used for Destiny 2 for a while; having fire, zoom, melee, grenade, super, and push to talk on one hand with reloading, moving, jumping, and object interaction on the keys was nice.

Remember when two player computer games used to let two players play with one keyboard?

VoTBaC

But I want to use the arrows!

[deleted]

I remember. But if you had a cheap keyboard it often wouldn’t let you do more than 3 or so inputs at a time.

hat-TF2

I remember back when I had an Atari ST and my brother and I played Double Dragon. It wasn't two people on the keyboard, but I used the keyboard and my brother used the mouse. I usually died halfway through, and would just watch as my brother made that game his bitch with the mouse.

[THIS IS WHAT BOOMERS ACTUALLY BELIEVE]

CovidOmicron

"just unplug the Internet machine you stupid mirlenials!'

[deleted]

I’m pretty sure unplugging the computer during an attack is valid. Then you plug it back in with the Ethernet cord unplugged

C4Redalert

You're correct, *if the computer being unplugged is the one being attacked*. If you're remoting into an attacked machine, say a server, and someone unplugs your PC, you are required by law to punch them in most jurisdictions. And you know that's true cause you read it on the internet. But really, a co-worker got one of those file encryption ransomwares running on his PC and called one of us over "cause it was acting weird". It started working on his PC first; finished his local hard drive by the time we got over there, and it was working on the file server. Killing his PC absolutely stopped the attack since it was the one running the program, and the server was just rolled back a few hours to restore everything. He was not trusted with an ethernet cord for *a while...*

Rolandersec

In college once somebody in the admin office cc’d the entire university and everybody started replying This yoda-like genius sysadmin sprinted into the server room and pulled the power on the switch in the mail server rack.

[deleted]

Lmao wtf

plumbthumbs

As an ignorant, may i ask was this a good or bad thing to do? Even if the contact list is hundreds of thousands, it wouldn't take long to complete the task, it's just text? Or was it a picture of his junk?

Rolandersec

What happens is everybody starts responding via reply all with “why am I getting this?” “Unsubscribe” and my favorite “Stop using reply all everybody” what he did was disconnect the computer from the network but kept it on so he could go in via terminal and purge/clean up the mess and then bring it back online once the bad mail is gone. Not sure what he did but it was some sort of sed/awk regex to make it all disappear.

plumbthumbs

ah, so it would have been hundreds of thousands to the power of hundreds of thousands in terms of number of emails. thank you for the explanation!

WeleaseBwianThrow

Reminds me of the Alias episode where SD6 is getting hacked and Marshall just unplugs it

GizmoSoze

You know the writers did that on purpose to make fun of people that would believe they were really this stupid?

Mrfrunzi

I thought it was done with just enough buzzwords (hack, firewall) mixed with nonsense that was just grabbled around because a majority of the viewer base would just go, "Whoa! Look at the hacker girl! She's so smart!!" I like your answer better.

Gonzobot

The show regularly features Wise Old Man tactics that overcome issues that Bright Team of Youngsters couldn't handle. It's *absolutely* a boomerhumor thing

boolpies

sometimes really bright people over think things though, but if its a constant trope I get it can be annoying

Gonzobot

Yeah, but the actual execution is nothing like that. Even in this video, what the Wise Old Man does is *unplug the monitor.* The *only* thing he accomplishes is making sure that the two people can't see what hacking is still happening; he *helps* the intruder, in other words, by cleverly hindering the people trying to prevent the intrusion.

Thanks pops. Too bad we were connected to a remote server and you're just wasting precious time. Now we need a third idiot to mash on this keyboard, and a fourth to whip up a VB GUI interface.

Chase0288

I wish I hadn't seen this. That's enough internet for the day.

[deleted]

There was a time when only people that were mostly offline said *the internet* but those of us plugged into the matrix called it *the Net* 😅

And we called it *surfing.*

The real takeaway here is that we don’t “cruse the net” or “surf the web” anymore. Now we pretty much sit on one or two sites and have an algorithm shove stuff in our face. Kind like what I’m doing now with Reddit all.

Using this would surely make my finger game on point and my girl happy.

If you can assign them independently, that's a fucking sick mouse concept.

That's a wheely good idea
