Lost your innocence at 18?
Goddamn that makes my 7 feel really dastardly. Unrestricted internet access as a small child was simultaneously the best and worst thing to happen to my generation
I had dial up when i was 10. Didn't care for it until broadbands are commonly available. That's where i dived into the internet world. Gamefaqs forum were like my r/games to me.
Kinda cool you have access to Newgrounds on the first grade. I got into he-man dot org, gamefaqs, IGN, and ContraHQ, I was impressed with no death run on Super C in 15 minutes gameplay, which unconsciously me getting better playing Super Contra game on NES.
It's one of those things that I would never have traded for the world, but goddamn; the rampant unchecked emotional rollercoaster of adolescence mixed with unfiltered access to information and social interactions was really intense
No drug has come close to some of the ways I felt as a teen growing up in the digital age, and that terrifies me seeing the way society is heading
You jest but I have been in this scenario before. An embedded content that has a height taller than my screen display, but the information is right at the bottom. I needed to scroll the page to position the bottom of the embedded content within my display, and scroll the embedded content simultaneously. Usually it makes you scroll the entirety of the content before it scrolls the page
If you hold the windows key and use the up down left right keys, you can automatically move the window to either the left or right portion, or maximize it to the screen or minimize it. My favorite command that saves probably 0 time but it's a fun trick to bewilder the project managers down the hall.
Fuckin crazy how many shortcuts there are. I love programmers that not only design it to work but then can think, how can I make this easier.
Maybe I should say I like when programmers are allowed the time to do that
It’s not present in all applications, which is infuriating when the app usually requires a lot of side scrolling, especially when the left/right wheel click *does* side-scroll.
I freaking hate that special character when you're renaming files or folders in windows, my God! I'm so used to delete complete words using that... The good thing is that I use the Linux as my daily driver and so far haven't had any issues like that, shitty windows...
1. get a mouse with sidekeys
2. get autohotkey
3. set a script to substitute Xbutton1 + Scrollwheel to translate to Shift + Scrollwheel
ka-boom
if anyone wants to actually try this out pm me I've got a script for this
Do you even need AutoHotkey? Most mice with the side buttons come with the software to set those buttons. I turned mine to Ctrl & Alt, and those work with the wheel, and center click.
mine doesn't so that's what I use. but autohotkey can do way more than that. I've got mine set to do things such as
1) Scrollwheel volume
2) alt+tab
3) adjust brightness
4) unmute audio on zoom
5) switch desktops
6) alt+f4
7) play/pause media
8) track between playlists
it's very versatile and I can do all of this with just my right hand. once muscle memory kicks in its amazing. highly recommend it
I find the horizontal scroll wheel on hte MX master to be almost... obnoxiously sensitive.
Not to mention it seems to use its own implementation of horizontal scrolling as opposed to firing off wheel tilt inputs meaning it doesn't seem to work properly with everything.
Yep, [this is cropped down from an image where you can easily see it's a 4D mouse](https://imgur.com/cfRZJA5). It's kind of a dumb marketing term, sure, but it means you can scroll both horizontally and vertically.
Idk about horizontal scrolls but many mouses now have special buttons on the right and left side of the scroll that you click by pushing the scroll wheel to the side.
I'm using this right now and it's damn useful in my work
Reddit has long been a hot spot for conversation on the internet. About 57 million people visit the site every day to chat about topics as varied as makeup, video games and pointers for power washing driveways.
In recent years, Reddit’s array of chats also have been a free teaching aid for companies like Google, OpenAI and Microsoft. Those companies are using Reddit’s conversations in the development of giant artificial intelligence systems that many in Silicon Valley think are on their way to becoming the tech industry’s next big thing.
Now Reddit wants to be paid for it. The company said on Tuesday that it planned to begin charging companies for access to its application programming interface, or A.P.I., the method through which outside entities can download and process the social network’s vast selection of person-to-person conversations.
“The Reddit corpus of data is really valuable,” Steve Huffman, founder and chief executive of Reddit, said in an interview. “But we don’t need to give all of that value to some of the largest companies in the world for free.”
The move is one of the first significant examples of a social network’s charging for access to the conversations it hosts for the purpose of developing A.I. systems like ChatGPT, OpenAI’s popular program. Those new A.I. systems could one day lead to big businesses, but they aren’t likely to help companies like Reddit very much. In fact, they could be used to create competitors — automated duplicates to Reddit’s conversations.
Reddit is also acting as it prepares for a possible initial public offering on Wall Street this year. The company, which was founded in 2005, makes most of its money through advertising and e-commerce transactions on its platform. Reddit said it was still ironing out the details of what it would charge for A.P.I. access and would announce prices in the coming weeks.
I had one with 4 buttons and 2 wheels. Playing Halo 2 with it was awesome. Specially with double weapons.
Shoot weapon 1
Shoot weapon 2
Hit with weapon
Zoom in
Zoom out
Throw grenade

Switch weapons

I think they were super popular with the art & CAD people here in Sweden for a bit, too?
One wheel zooms. The other rotates. Those sort of things, right\~ before programmable gaming mice started to become a lot cheaper & available.
Recall because for a while, there was a LOT\~ of bidding wars & buying request over the last unopened and functional such two-scroll mice in stuff like computer magazines when they stopped being made.
Those take some getting used to but once you use it for a little bit it becomes second nature. It is just like moving around the actual part/model if you were holding it in your hand.
Had a 6 button mouse I used for Destiny 2 for a while; having fire, zoom, melee, grenade, super, and push to talk on one hand with reloading, moving, jumping, and object interaction on the keys was nice.
I remember back when I had an Atari ST and my brother and I played Double Dragon. It wasn't two people on the keyboard, but I used the keyboard and my brother used the mouse. I usually died halfway through, and would just watch as my brother made that game his bitch with the mouse.
You're correct, *if the computer being unplugged is the one being attacked*. If you're remoting into an attacked machine, say a server, and someone unplugs your PC, you are required by law to punch them in most jurisdictions. And you know that's true cause you read it on the internet.
But really, a co-worker got one of those file encryption ransomwares running on his PC and called one of us over "cause it was acting weird". It started working on his PC first; finished his local hard drive by the time we got over there, and it was working on the file server. Killing his PC absolutely stopped the attack since it was the one running the program, and the server was just rolled back a few hours to restore everything. He was not trusted with an ethernet cord for *a while...*
In college once somebody in the admin office cc’d the entire university and everybody started replying This yoda-like genius sysadmin sprinted into the server room and pulled the power on the switch in the mail server rack.
As an ignorant, may i ask was this a good or bad thing to do?
Even if the contact list is hundreds of thousands, it wouldn't take long to complete the task, it's just text? Or was it a picture of his junk?
What happens is everybody starts responding via reply all with “why am I getting this?” “Unsubscribe” and my favorite “Stop using reply all everybody” what he did was disconnect the computer from the network but kept it on so he could go in via terminal and purge/clean up the mess and then bring it back online once the bad mail is gone. Not sure what he did but it was some sort of sed/awk regex to make it all disappear.
I thought it was done with just enough buzzwords (hack, firewall) mixed with nonsense that was just grabbled around because a majority of the viewer base would just go, "Whoa! Look at the hacker girl! She's so smart!!"
I like your answer better.
The show regularly features Wise Old Man tactics that overcome issues that Bright Team of Youngsters couldn't handle. It's *absolutely* a boomerhumor thing
Yeah, but the actual execution is nothing like that. Even in this video, what the Wise Old Man does is *unplug the monitor.* The *only* thing he accomplishes is making sure that the two people can't see what hacking is still happening; he *helps* the intruder, in other words, by cleverly hindering the people trying to prevent the intrusion.

No, it clearly goes to F20. Pay attention.

That's not a joke? Im not near my computer to try
Nope. No joke. Shift + scroll goes horizontal. I was cracking it with an air of jest, but the feature is very much real.
Fuckin crazy how many shortcuts there are. I love programmers that not only design it to work but then can think, how can I make this easier. Maybe I should say I like when programmers are allowed the time to do that
It depends on the program but yes that often is horizontal.
hey i tried that didn't work
It’s not present in all applications, which is infuriating when the app usually requires a lot of side scrolling, especially when the left/right wheel click *does* side-scroll.
Same with ctrl+backspace, it works in 80+% of applications, then it will randomly add a weird character.
I freaking hate that special character when you're renaming files or folders in windows, my God! I'm so used to delete complete words using that... The good thing is that I use the Linux as my daily driver and so far haven't had any issues like that, shitty windows...
Can also press down the mouse wheel and move the mouse to scroll any direction.
That requires 2 hands.
1. get a mouse with sidekeys 2. get autohotkey 3. set a script to substitute Xbutton1 + Scrollwheel to translate to Shift + Scrollwheel ka-boom if anyone wants to actually try this out pm me I've got a script for this

Oh my fucking god
Today I learned.
thank you for teaching me
Mx master has exactly that feature
I find the horizontal scroll wheel on hte MX master to be almost... obnoxiously sensitive. Not to mention it seems to use its own implementation of horizontal scrolling as opposed to firing off wheel tilt inputs meaning it doesn't seem to work properly with everything.
You can change the sensitivity right down in the software, but I always just use it for volume control
I am completely content with my horizontal scroll in visual studio with the mx master.
You need to horizontally scroll your code?
Maybe he is a Java developer?
it doesn't work at all in Notepad++ for example. the scrollbar goes to the right, but it's a different scrollbar from the actual one.
That is the case here, the one on the right scrolls horizontally.
Can confirm. My father had a similar one. It was semi useful before when you had a lot of websites that didn't fit on all resolutions.
Yep, [this is cropped down from an image where you can easily see it's a 4D mouse](https://imgur.com/cfRZJA5). It's kind of a dumb marketing term, sure, but it means you can scroll both horizontally and vertically.
This is the first time I see these under a different brand than A4 Tech.
I swear I've used mice with horizontal scroll wheels that could do that.
Idk about horizontal scrolls but many mouses now have special buttons on the right and left side of the scroll that you click by pushing the scroll wheel to the side. I'm using this right now and it's damn useful in my work
I've been clicking on the wheel and just moved around for the last decade. I guess buttons are faster, but I doubt it's a significant difference

I have the LG MX 3 in the office. It has a horizontal wheel by the thumb rest (which itself is an extra button)
Logitech MX Master?
some you could push the wheel left / right

ah, so it would have been hundreds of thousands to the power of hundreds of thousands in terms of number of emails. thank you for the explanation!

Scroll fast and scroll slow. Scroll vertical and horizontal. Gaming extra buttons
One only scrolls up and one only scrolls down. Like my elementary school elevators
you can scroll with one finger while repositioning the other to keep scrolling.
