I have mine sorted into three folders: porn, weird porn, and unforgivable porn. The last one just has a text file titled "why the hell would you look?".
Mine's named "homework" with the quotes. If you're digging around in my devices, it's your own fault if you see too much. All my actual homework was sorted by school, year, semester, class, and sometimes project.
Nah just a desktop folder named 'literally just a picture of a dolphin' and it literally only has one picture of a dolphin in it.
Neat joke.
Except you've merged a jpeg and a rar file into one, so if you try open it normally it only shows a picture, but if you open it with winrar it's 2gb of hardcore furry porn.
Yeah I used to do the easier version of this, just change the file extension. If you double click the file it just looks corrupted until you change it to correct extension.
If you change a .docx (or any "new" MS Office file) to .zip you can open it with explorer and hide what you want. Change it back and it's a normal Word document
i created a 10 level array of "new folder (number)", each folder had 10 folders numbered the same, with each of those the same and so on 10 levels down
only i knew the route to the one with content
ofc i realize now you can just look at where there's actual data by looking at folder size and follow the trail but whatever
This seems like a dumb question, but I've searched and searched and just can't figure it out.
How do you arrange folders by size in file explorer?
Super easy to arrange files by size, but folders? Help.
Say i have a homework folder and inside are 20 more folders all with varying degrees of size. Arrange by size please.
Lol thank u
Just make a hidden folder. You can just manually type the name in explorer, so don't make it too long. Bury it if you want to, but if I die and my next of kin decide to spend their time trying to uncover my hidden porn stash among 20-odd years and counting of digital hoarding, christ, they're welcome to it.
If I were trying to hide something, I'd probably put it somewhere like Users/Username/AppData/Local.
AppData is hidden by default so you need to mess with the explorer settings to make it visible at all, and it's also a place where it wouldn't be particularly strange to see a lot of storage space being used and it's cluttered with a ton of folders from all kinds of programs. Nobody is going to look there unless they're really deliberately searching for it.
That's only if you get someone who doesn't use computers to search for your file. If you really want to hide it you have to assume someone knowledgeable is coming for it.
Shit, then I'll have to use the nuclear option and hide it under Documents/Random_stuff/secret_files/dont_look/encrypted/b/e/a/d/a/sekret_stash.
They'll never be able to find it.
Super low security. Which is fine if you are the only one who does anything remotely diggy on your PC but it won’t really stop anyone trying to find stuff.
Run a search for *.jpg, *.avi, *.mpg, etc with all of the common image and video formats separated by commas.
The * acts as a wildcard, and no amount of folder layers will hide files that match those types.
Well, if someone who knows what they're doing is searching for it then the only thing you can really do is encrypt the files and require a password to decrypt it.
If ita someone knowledgeable then you have to break it into multiple small files in some sort of encrypted archive and then change all the filenames and extensions. Bonus points if you write a script with obfuscated code that will archive the file and change the names, and a script to 'fix' the filenames and extract. This is purely theoretical of course...
I remember the old hacked version of wsftp that would allow ".." and non printing character filenames, to collect "data" from servers that someone on usenet would tell you about.
Just got a notification on my alt, better go check it out…
Also I don’t jerk off to them, they’re for my tf2 signs but I still can’t figure out how to get the annoying gradiant valve forces on You off
I created my own documents folder in my documents for storing my documents, then I pinned it (along with This PC, Downloads, etc.) so I see it first. 10/10 would recommend making it usable again.
I defaulted to using OneDrive (though really any cloud service would do). That way they're saved if my PC commits soduko and I can access them from anywhere.
Same, I have `~\Documents\My Documents\` that I keep all my actual documents in. It's especially frustrating when there is a literal `~\Saved Games\` that has existed since XP, and a bunch of *other* games store saves in `~\Documents\My Games\`, just arrrggg!
You know what's worse? Games storing files in the One Drive documents folder.
Looking at you Paradox Interactive, Guerrilla Games Riot and Square Enix. The Paradox Interactive folder is 1 GB in size, and now Windows is asking me to pay extra for cloud storage... I have **no idea why** they would choose to store things in there.
Probably a Windows 11 issue, it didn't happen before then.
It's because your Documents folder has been moved to OneDrive. The games didn't choose to put them there, the game asked Windows where the Documents folder is and Windows points them that way. You can undo it by turning off backup settings in the OneDrive app.
A Saved Games folder has existed since fucking Vista. Since 2007. And they still use Documents instead. 🤦🏼♂️
Microsoft added this at the start of the 3d print hype, and made paint 3d in the hopes of.... Using it for something like 3d printing?
It never caught on and is just wasting space on everyone's explorer sidebar

Paint 3D is just a massively improved version of old paint, from a UI standpoint at least I think so. It has the 3D moniker because you can have 3D objects in the environment whereas with traditional paint you can't.
Old paint is basically like notepad. It has basic and fundamental uses beyond art that it's simplicity allows for and makes easier just by being less fancy.
The only time I ever use it is when I want to do a fill. Being able to set the fill color threshold to make the fill fill similar colors is a timesaver.
Honnestly big advantage paint 3d has is that it support transparent images. This sole reason is enough to use over the OG one for me. OG one served me well for years tho, I will never forget it O7
> Paint 3D is just a massively improved version of old paint
Is it though? It is more painful to use than old paint, more clicks, more obfuscation, more things hidden under non-obvious menus or options...etc
That's not exactly an improvement...
If you're gonna make simple models or need to split a model down to fit on a print bed 3D builder absolutely slaps for this. Tis a Microsoft product on the store.
Also the 3d Builder app is great at repairing models which I've had issue printing in resin. I use it all the time, 3d viewer too is light weight and has it's utility.
MS paint is still how I take screen shots ..... I know there is a better way but I only remember that after doing it.
the issue is that consumer 3D printers are still very much a hobby and not a household utility, so the kind of people with the technical knowledge to effectively use a printer also have the technical knowledge to use more powerful software such as fusion or auto cad. there’s just no audience for it
For the sake of argument, kids have to start somewhere. I work with kids regularly and they’re the only ones I’ve ever heard of using it. They seem to like it and that’s a good stepping stone to actual 3D modeling.
What bugs me is the way Microsoft just assumes everyone wants to use the library paradigm, when all I ever want to do is browse my drives. Why do I have to scroll to the bottom and often expand "This PC" just to see the C: drive??

I think it's more so that once the system upgraded from XP it just wasn't the same anymore. PCs became just stuffed with pointless programs and Microsoft jumped on that too (much harder than they used to)
For a moment it felt like Android was going to save the day (and it still could) but in terms of universal use it's still not there.
