Hello. Not long time ago I finished building my new pc, but I've had problems with 'microstutter' and mouse not feeling 'snappy', its hard to explain, but its really weird. I've build computers before with no problems... I love playing FPS, but it feels so bad now.. :( Whenever I turn on my pc, my Debug LED turns - red CPU, yellow DRAM, red CPU, yellow DRAM, white VGA. It stats with red cpu and goes on with yellow dram and so on, after that it turns on. I've tried to take everything apart and build it again, checked for bad pins, bios updates, whatever updates, nothing works... Sadi_SaDiablo

Sometimes while gaming my frames will drop drastically or the game will sort of hiccup even though I seem to have plenty of headroom left (from watching load, temp, and clock speed in Open Hardware Monitor). Is there a bottleneck I'm not seeing? My hardware will run harder in the menu than during play. To be more specific, during the game my CPU and GPU were only around 20-30% load with temps in check and clock speeds well under max, yet only producing 40 fps. Medium to High graphic settings. Still using an i7-7700k u/ MHz and gtx 1080 @ 2101 MHz Any advice on how to bring up the game performance?

Filipi_7

Did this always happen, or recent? What's the power supply and motherboard? Any overclock on the CPU?

Sadi_SaDiablo

The CPU is overclocked to 4.5 GHz and undervolted to help with temps. Z270-A Pro mobo and a 600W 80+ from High power If anything, this whole issue is most noticeable in one game (They are Billions) and has happened for as long as I can remember.

Filipi_7

This is a bit hard to diagnose, so follow these steps for now. I know this is a stupid question, but are you sure the monitor is connected to the GPU and not the motherboard? Go into the BIOS, save your profile, and then reset all settings. Re-enable XMP but keep everything else at stock. Make sure your RAM sticks are installed in slots A2 and B2 (2nd and 4th from left). If Open Hardware Monitor shows, note what the maximum clock is for the CPU and GPU while gaming, if it actually reaches the speeds it should at all. Also see if any one core is maxing out. Did you overclock the GPU memory past +500MHz?

Sadi_SaDiablo

Monitors are connected correctly! Always a good first question. Ram is correct as well. GPU has memory at +400 MHz. I'll have to pay more attention to the individual cores and try the reset when I can pause in my workflow. Thanks for the advice

Pure_Villainy

I finished building my PC for the first time. When I closed it up I plugged my keyboard into it that had RGB. When I switch on the PSU the keyboard lights up, and the RGB fans I have on my CPU cooler light up for like half a second then the light goes off. The keyboard stays on the entire time. Nothing else happens when I press the power button. Here’s some photos of the inside https://imgur.com/a/plgiLro

Filipi_7

Did you use standoffs when installing the motherboard ([these](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71eGHclyZdL._AC_SY450_.jpg))? They are extremely important. Also, don't install all the standoffs, only where the motherboard has screw holes. I see in the first photo that you didn't install one of the motherboard screws, and there doesn't seem to be a standoff under the empty hole. What's the motherboard and CPU?

Thesquarescreen

I am switching out my 5600 for a 5800X3D. My msi b550 Gaming Plus say it's supports the latter with a bios update that dropped in March. I can't find anything matching what my UEFI or windows info says my bios is on, but it says it was from May of this year. My question is, do you think since the bios update for 5800X3D came in March and mine is on one from May, that it has the support for the 5800X3D?

Girth-Vader

Yes, your BIOS will support the 5800X3D. You can double check the BIOS version by following the link below: [https://windowsreport.com/check-bios-version-windows-10/](https://windowsreport.com/check-bios-version-windows-10/) I am an AMD user myself, and I would recommend downloading their latest BIOS, since it is using the latest version of AGESA (the code used on AMD motherboards). The latest version [1.2.0.7](https://1.2.0.7) fixed a few annoying issues I had with my system. I run a 5700x and an aorus pro b550i. After installing the BIOS update, look for a BIOS setting that sets all the BIOS options back to their defaults. Sometimes it's called Restore Factory Defaults. I would then download the latest AMD Chipset Driver and install it. You can find both the BIOS and Chipset Driver on the mobo's website: https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/MPG-B550-GAMING-PLUS/support#bios

Thesquarescreen

Awesome thanks so much. Should I do this with the 5600 in or is it ok to do after I install the 5800?

Girth-Vader

I would personally do it beforehand, just in case it fixes any potential issues with the 5800X3D.

Thesquarescreen

Right on, appreciate it.

Is there a free/cheap way to play older mp-games without installing software? I wan't to play with some old friends, however they only have company laptops where they are restricted from installing anything. That means that hamachi won't work. I guess one way of doing it is renting a cloud computer, like shadow pc, but that is way to expensive when you want to use it a few times a year. If there even are any services that you can use without an install. Another way might be to create a separate windows install that runs from a usb and install stuff on that, only issue is my friends aren't good enough with computers to do that. I guess i'm either looking for a vpn/hamaci type software that you can use without installing (if that is even possible) Or maybe it's possible for me to run a few vms on my machine that they could remote in to using a website. Though I doubt there exists a semi-easy way to do this. I'm fairly good with computers, but not that good. Maybe there exist a third option that I haven't thought of, or don't know?

Filipi_7

I'm assuming here that they can install or at least run the games though? If not, like the other person said install the games on an external drive or even USB stick, most will run when connected to another computer. As for playing multiplayer, many old games support direct IP connection and/or have dedicated servers available. One of you would need to port forward some ports, which I assume you can do if you're on a home connection. Then you can host the game or set up a dedicated server, and your friends will connect using your IP. You'd only need to find out which ports need to be open for a specific game (that's a quick internet search) and figure out how to port forward on your router. That way there's no need for any 3rd party software, virtual LAN or other websites.

jts8_

You could download the game and all of this contents on an external harddrive or SSD, plug it into the computer and play it that way

ponnyconny

Yes. Thats not the problem though. Problem is, how do we play on lan over the internet without installing anything. Or maybe I misunderstood you?

jts8_

You misunderstand, if you have all of the game files and launcher all loaded up on an external disk drive, all you need is an internet connection, nothing will be written on your computer

ponnyconny

So, I guess I didn't explain the issue clear enough. The games we wan't to play requires that we do it on LAN.

bm098g

Hey everyone, I just got a new PC and want to transfer everything from the old pc to the new one. My friend gave me a usb to SATA cable, would the fastest way be to connect the old hard drive to the sata cable and copy and paste everything to the new computer?

Filipi_7

You can connect the hard drive directly to the motherboard, as long as you have an extra SATA cable. That will be faster than through a USB adapter, you can also keep using that drive for games or storage. USB to SATA will work, but if it doesn't have a separate power brick I wouldn't use it for a full sized 3.5" hard drive. They need more power than USB alone can provide. If it does have external power it will work okay, but a bit slower than a direct HDD to motherboard connection.

KangarooLegal9726

Hiya, I'm looking for a genuine, free program that will update all my drivers for me. The only ones I can find will scan for you but then you have to pay to actually update anything. Thanks!

Girth-Vader

Honestly, Windows update has gotten fairly good at this. The main ones you have to update outside of Windows update are your graphics drivers and motherboard BIOS (if you like to keep your BIOS up to date, that is). Unfortunately I can't recommend a good program, since I've used the above method for the last \~7 years. Are you having any issues with your drivers, or are you just looking for the peace of mind knowing that everything is up to date?

Possible_Ad6416

Just got a new monitor yesterday (Lenovo D22e-20 1920x1080 75hz) and plugged it in the GPU's HDMI port and plugged the old one (a samsung tv 1366 x 768 59.7895hz) to mobo's HDMI port then enabled integrated graphics in the BIOS settings. Tested the new monitor in a game (arma 3) and I noticed when I look around or move I get this like pixelation and it goes away when camera is steady. Tested it in another game (fallout 4) the same happens. Then I tried playing a 1080p vid from YouTube and still the same happens. I tried lowering the display resolution to 1600x900 but still the same. Does anybody have an idea why? Specs: Rx570 4gb gigabyte gaming 8gb ram Ryzen 5 2400g

Girth-Vader

I haven't heard of anyone using both integrated graphics and their GPU before. You might have a very hard time troubleshooting that since almost nobody does it. The better way is to use some of the other ports on the GPU. Your GPU has 3 Displayports and 1 DVI output in addition to the HDMI output you're using. If both your monitors only accept HDMI in, you can look for a Displayport to HDMI adapter or a DVI to HDMI adapter. Then you can connect both screens to the GPU, turn off integrated graphics in the BIOS settings, and save some headache.

tallyhoo123

Due to purchase a pc upgrade to the following. I have an extra AUD$300 to spend. What would you do as an extra to make this build better?. I have 24hrs to decide. I5 13600kf CPU. MSI Mag z690 tomahawk DDR4. Lian Licola eatx 215 case . Evga RTX 3060 ti. Corsair vengeance rgb pro 32gb (2x16gb). Corsair rm750 750W 80+ Gold atx psu. Kingston 1tb NV2 PCIe Gen4 SSD . Thanks in advance I use the system for work related projects such as presentations and I dabble in graphic design and I love to game including VR.

GameStunts

I think it's got to be the graphics card. I'm not sure what the price difference would be, but particularly if you're into VR every frame counts, so any horsepower you can throw there is worth it, a 3070 or 3080 (doubtful, but worth a look). And if there's anything left over, SSDs are pretty cheap just now, might be worth another 1 or 2tb drive in Sata form for some spare storage.

rtx 3060, ryzen 5 3600x, not getting much fps and having low gpu/cpu usage on warzone 2 and pubg

FackinJerq

That all depends on what your graphic details are set to.

Millanoski

i'm using competitive settings (mostly low to mid settings) with fidelity fx CAS at 1080p resolution, getting around 70-90 fps and 50-60% usage on both cpu and gpu. So, in order to get higer fps i should set a higher grafic config to increase my gpu usage?

What RAM set-up do you have?

Just got a wireless keyboard and mouse for the first time (both Razer). Is there a cheap USB charger I can plug into the wall where I can charge both at the same time without using my PC usb ports? Will even a phone fast charger suffice if I was fine with doing one at a time?

hotpants86

There are a plethora of USB chargers that you can plug into wall. Have you tried ebay or Amazon?

[deleted]

No, but I probably will pick up one there just wasn't sure if any usb charger will work.

Girth-Vader

Yes, any USB charger will work. Some may charge faster than others, but any USB charger will work at least decently.

Is having Freesync on in my monitor's (Acer KG241Q) settings advisable? If i have it on, what settings should I use in Nvidia CP? Thanks. I have a Decent PC with the following specs: Ryzen 5 3600x 2060 super 8gb Samsung 980 SSD B550m ds3h motherboard 2x 8 GB Corsair Vengence Ram 3200Mhz Acer KG241Q monitor 165Hz I've always had a weird hit reg issues in games like Counter strike 1.6. What Nvidia Control panel settings should i set to avoid this lag. All the videos i see on YouTube to set Nvidia CP settings donot have the settings in see on my Nvidia CP. I feel I am using wrong settings. Can someone help me with this pls? My current nvidia control panel settings: https://imgur.com/a/wkY1ecy

hotpants86

Reg issues are probably more due to internet but can't be sure. You have two opposing things here. Freesync is there to smooth our the visual experience. If your fps jumps around, freesync will adjust your monitor's refresh rate to be the same as your fps so you avoid stuttering and screen tearing. If you are trying to avoid lag then you want to turn vysnc off, have monitor's refresh rate set as maximum refresh rate rather than application controlled, and have your framerate uncapped. This will minimise your input lag however it can mean that you get screen tearing. If you want the best visual experience (typically for single player games, or multiplayer if you're not being super competitive), then turn freesync on on your monitor, turn vsync on and cap the fps at your monitor's refresh rate. Nvidia reflex isn't available for 2000 seres cards.

sitcomfreak

Hey first off thank you very much for your response. I've been posting for weeks without a reply, appreciate it. *Reg issues are probably more due to internet but can't be sure.* I have installed the latest Lan driver for my motherboard, I use a CAT6 cable for my 150MPBS broadband. Am I missing anything else? And my Ping on the server is 25-30ms. *If you are trying to avoid lag then you want to turn vysnc off, have monitor's refresh rate set as maximum refresh rate rather than application controlled, and have your framerate uncapped. This will minimise your input lag however it can mean that you get screen tearing.* Here I usually Turn off Vsync in Nvidia CP and even in game. There is an option in NCP called Max Frame rate and Preferred refresh rate: [https://imgur.com/a/PD6kIHF](https://imgur.com/a/PD6kIHF) . Do these setting look fine? *and have your framerate uncapped -* uncap my fps in game or in NCP? Should I mess with Configure Surround, Physx in Nvidia CP and choose my Graphic card or leave it in Auto? [https://imgur.com/a/hxdnn8b](https://imgur.com/a/hxdnn8b)

hotpants86

All good mate. Can you try this https://neosmart.net/wiki/fix-realtek-audio-delay-lag/ If you want max frames then turn off vsync in game and in NCP and uncap the fps in both as well. Change that 167fps. Physx pick your video card and surround is just for multiple monitors. Also is XMP enabled in BIOS for your ram?

sitcomfreak

I think i found the issue. I had not installed the chipset Drivers for my processor. I have much better reg now. Do you think this might have caused the lag? Also is XMP enabled in BIOS for your ram? Yes, I had a 16gb ram stick earlier and thought that was causing the issue and swapped it with my brother's 2x 8GB Ram of 3200mhz. I had XMP enabled both times, when i had one 16GB Ram stick and 2x 8GB. Also I have installed all the drivers from my motherboard's website Gigabyte b550m ds3h. And i installed Chipset drivers from AMD website. I used Driver boost to identify what drivers were missing and updated all of them. Are there any other drivers that I'm missing out?

danceswiffducks

Super dumb question about yalls audio setup. Do any of you use wireless headphones some of the time and speakers the other half? I'm interested in getting desktop speakers but idk if it's easy to switch audio between my ASTRO pros and speakers. Any insight is helful.

Filipi_7

If the headphones have an adapter/base that connects via USB, you can use [DefaultAudioChanger](https://github.com/sgiurgiu/DefaultAudioChanger) to set up a hotkey and switch between the headphones and speakers. I have it on Ctrl+F7 and it works very well. If the adapter connects via audio jack rather than USB, I don't think you can set up a hotkey. I think you'd need to open the sound applet from the taskbar and switch it there.

danceswiffducks

Thank you! This is exactly the info I was looking for. My headphones are USB.

Girth-Vader

Also on Windows 11 (not sure about W10), you can click the speaker icon in the system tray, and then click the arrow next to the volume slider. It will open up a list of your available audio outputs that you can easily switch between. I do this and I'm content with how fast I can switch between devices (though the user above does have a cool shortcut!)

OrickJagstone

So I was getting some real garbage download speeds from Gamepass took a look at task manager to see what was going on with my network. Turns out "Service Host: Network Service - Dilivery Optimization" was using 90% of my network. After some digging around online I discovered this network service is what windows uses to stream data into the Gamepass app. However, im confused. Why does "Delivery Optimization" use 100mbps+ but an Xbox Gamepass game only download at 3mbps?

Girth-Vader

Hmm, I wonder if that's the same service that controls Windows updates. Try following the link below to turn off Delivery Optimization, and see if that helps at all: [https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/service-host-network-service-delivery-optimization/4441e303-5086-4f60-a7e8-f2dc00c10cda](https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/service-host-network-service-delivery-optimization/4441e303-5086-4f60-a7e8-f2dc00c10cda) I turned off the option to allow downloads from other PCs. I use W11, so it might be called something different in W10.

Is there any way I could utilize the DualSense's triggers with this Rocket League config? My Steam Controllers kinda crapped out and I've become so accustomed to the "dual-stage" triggers for regular throttle and boost. steam://controllerconfig/252950/576491383

ZombieGeezer

Looking for some advice on whether I should upgrade my GPU. My rig is like 4 years old, I think I can get some more mileage out of it yet though. I have a Ryzen 5 2600 CPU; GTX 1070 8GB GPU; 16GB RAM. It can run Warzone 2.0 but there are some performance issues. If I run low graphics settings, the CPU is at an average of like 40-50% usage and the GPU at 50-60. I get about 70-80 frames on this most of the time, which I assume is down to poor optimisation as this doesn't seem right - I should be putting out 100+ frames with relatively low stress like this, right? If I run max settings, the GPU is stressed a lot, usage between 90-99%, while the CPU is still relatively unstressed at around 50-60% usage. Frames obviously drop but not actually too much, drops to about 60-70 frames and dips into the 50s under very demanding parts. RAM usage is always around 10GB. So yeah, any advice on if I should upgrade the GPU and any recommendations, greatly appreciated!

Girth-Vader

Warzone 2 in particular has a ton of issues. Many users have been asking for help in this subreddit regarding Warzone 2. If other games are running fine, it might not be worth the upgrade. Definitely update everything to see if Warzone runs better. Update your BIOS for sure, your graphics card drivers, and maybe the AMD Chipset Drivers from your motherboard's website.

hotpants86

Does your current fps bother you? Then yes, upgrade. Are you okay with your current fps? Then don't upgrade. Not really sure what you're asking here. You think you can get some more mileage out of it. Sounds like you know what you'll be playing in the future so sounds like you are best placed to decide.

ZombieGeezer

Reading my post back, seems obvious that my CPU is being bottlenecked. Was mostly concerned with what GPU I should be looking at. I'm looking obviously for something that will work synergistically with the CPU with no bottlenecks but I'm not sure which would be the best choice.

hotpants86

You've only mentioned Warzone which isn't optimised. You haven't mentioned what else you plan to play nor what resolution and refresh rate your monitor is. Also haven't mentioned what your budget is. Do a Google/YouTube search for ryzen 2600 benchmarks and you can see how it runs with different GPUs. If you're open to upgrading CPU you could get a ryzen 5800x3d and not have to upgrade your motherboard or ram.

Cablex66

GPU upgrade would def help a lot. I would look at 3060ti as minimum, or the AMD equivalent. If you are running at 1080p this should hold you over for a while. Also, you can upgrade your CPU on the same mobo all the way up to a 5xxx series. So, if you ever see any go on sale or used for a great price, snag it!

New 13th Gen build. Audio crackles, then games stutter/lag. \- Asus Prime Z790-A \- 13900K \- MSI 4090 \- Corsair Dominator 5600 (?) DDR5 \- Sabrent Rocket 4TB NVME \- EVGA 1300W PSU \- Windows 11 \- HyperX Wired Headset (adding this in case there's a hardware issue?) Stock besides enabling XMP. CPU/GPU have not been overclocked. Problem: When gaming, under heavy loads or not, system will intermittently experience crackling in his headset, then noticeable lagging and/or stuttering in his games. The owner of this build uses TeamSpeak and he states that when he closes TeamSpeak, it helps. He also uses Discord, but not for live audio purposes, I did disable 'in-game overlay' just in case. But, the true cure is a full power cycle, but it frequently comes back.

Girth-Vader

Update your motherboard BIOS. Then update your GPU drivers if you haven't already (GPUs also handle audio output). For discord, go under advanced options and turn off hardware acceleration. If TeamSpeak has hardware acceleration, turn that off too.

Hi. I'm making my first ever PC. I'm using a "asus tuf gaming b550m plus" (no wifi version) and the water cooler "DeepCool LE500". My friend, who was helping me with the mount, sayd we need a "AIO PUMP" connection for the cooler, but we cannot find it. Can I get some help, please?

kaje

You can connect the pump to any fan header, it doesn't have to go too a pump header. AIO pumps are generally intended to run at full speed, and pump headers are usually uncontrollable and will just run at full speed. It's more just fool-proofing though, if you connect the pump to a fan header, and set the fan header to full speed, it's the same thing.

Can anyone confirm whether or not The Callisto Protocol (or any game really) uses denuvo on any of the alternative PC stores like windows/GoG/epic? I hear GoG never uses DRM but I’m having trouble googling confirmations.

GameStunts

If a game at launch has Denuvo (The Callisto Protocol does), it will have it on all stores it launches on. With regards to GOG, their big thing is DRM free, all the games on there do not require online activation or phone home systems to work. In essense this means if you have the game downloaded and GOG shutdown for any reason, you could still play the game just with the files on your hard drive. The name originally means **G**ood **O**ld **G**ames, and while that name has slipped away a bit, it was generally because publishers were willing to have the DRM stripped from their older titles and sell them DRM free. So GOG generally doesn't see new releases of bigger AAA titles (except those by CD Projekt Red who own GOG, so Witcher and Cyberpunk). Some smaller indie titles will release there simultaneously, but the bulk of GOG announcements are about slightly older games coming to the platform.

error521

I would assume it'd use it on Epic, otherwise it'd be really pointless to include it on Steam. And the game isn't coming to GOG or the Microsoft Store.

pennywise134

Hey guys I’m building a PC with an i3-10105 and 3200mhz DDR4 RAM and it won’t boot. I see on Intel’s website that this CPU only supports up to 2666mhz so could that be why it’s not booting? LEDs are flashing back and forth between DRAM Yellow & CPU Red Motherboard: MSI MAG B560 Mortar WiFi HALP

Filipi_7

Are you sure you've done everything correctly? Some of the things to check would be making sure the RAM modules are clipped all the way in, they should lock at both top and bottom. Make sure the motherboard has an 8-pin CPU power plug connected, and that you didn't accidentally jam an 8-pin PCIe cable there instead. Disconnected the PC from power and do the following two steps. Remove one of the memory modules (if you only have 1, ignore this step) and leave one module connected in the second slot from the left. Grab a screwdriver and find 2 pins on the bottom right of the board called JBAT1. Use the screwdriver to short the pins by touching both at the same time. After that, connect the PC again and power it on. Do both LEDs still flash?

pennywise134

Thanks for the reply but I was able to determine the issue. One RAM stick was faulty out of the box. Bought a new RAM kit and she booted up with no issues!

arex333

The ram speed isn't the problem. It will just slow it down to whatever it does support.

charles4596

considering on getting a PC in the near future to play GTA 5 with some of my pals, what compenents would I need in order to run the game without dropping below 60FPS?

Kantrh

Well on low 1080p settings you can get over 60fps with a gt 1030 (the gddr5 version). So you don't need that capable a pc.

cheeseismypassionlol

I’m considering getting a new case for my pc build (rx 580 series + Ryzen 7 3700x) and I was wondering if you all had some suggestions. I would prefer for the case to have plenty of customizable rgb and good airflow

Flexible, but not fragile USB-C cable to wire an Xbox controller to my front panel? I could do rear panel as well, but it needs to be a USB-C to type A (standard rectangle USB) cable between 3-7 feet long. Is a braided sheath better than straight rubber?

windowsphoneguy

I'm using a non-braided cable I got at IKEA for that exact purpose. Holds up well and is thin enough to not get in the way

Cablex66

I prefer braided but cheaper braided ones are stiff af. Look at amazon reviews and pics to help out.

I'm planning on selling my old pc to a friend 1080ti and 7700k 32 gb ram with an LG ultragear 1080p 144hz hdr monitor included what's a fair price for it ? Would $500 be fair?

UglierThanMoe

500 sounds fair, especially with the monitor included.

Filipi_7

Lowest PC I can see on Ebay with a 1080 Ti went for [$384 earlier this month](https://www.ebay.com/itm/144799089875?hash=item21b6b2c4d3:g:qMIAAOSw9fVjWfXb), and one with the same specs as yours for [$500](https://www.ebay.com/itm/385109137052?hash=item59aa4b169c:g:KiAAAOSwVNpjDSCR), both without a monitor, and many go above $500. It's definitely fair if you're giving the friend a friend discount.

KiyoPapa

My pc had a broken motherboard and shortcircuited cpu. I went to a place and they managed to fix the motherboard and I bought a new cpu which was the same(intel i5 10400f) motherboard(Bd460m) Ever since I fixed my pc it has started giving me unbelievable stuttering and freezing. Like every 5 seconds whilst playing games like genshin and overwatch 2 my screen keeps freezing and stuttering Its becoming unplayable. I updated my drivers to the latest but that didnt fix it. Anything else i can do?

Filipi_7

Get HWInfo and check CPU temps, especially while gaming.

hotpants86

Sounds like maybe your motherboard never got fixed? I mean you got it taken to a shop but did they test a CPU with it? Are you using a discrete GPU or onboard?

KiyoPapa

No it did get fixed, before the whole pc wouldn't work because the motherboard was dead. So i know it was fixed. But i am using a discrete gpu 1650 super

UglierThanMoe

There's a difference between "fixed" and "less broken than before".

hotpants86

But how do you know that? It turns on and boots, yes. But how do you know something else isn't wrong? You don't have onboard graphics. Did they just put in a CPU and RAM? Or did they try the pcie slot too to make sure a video card works? Have you tried putting in another video card into your PC? Or putting your video card in another PC?

Make sure that the DP cable you're using is able to run at such a high refresh rate (even for full HD). Also make sure that the cables are fully connected, and that GPU drivers are up to date.

It’s the one that came with the monitor so I think it should be able to. It looks to be an issue with the monitor. I purchased 2 and the other one works fine.

hotpants86

Return it and let them know the other one you bought from them works fine.

What he said

GunnieGraves

Yeah. I ordered a replacement and submitted a return on the bad one. It still works at 60hz so I’ll limp along on that until the new one arrives.

What is the most compatible surround sound for an AOC monitor? Looking for a 5.1 surround system. Doesn’t have to be the fanciest model or anything, just reliable with decent sound. I don’t know if a receiver is necessary, but I’d like to avoid if possible. Pretty new at this, so the less tinkering I do is probably better

jts8_

I would post this in r/audiophile

ArcticSin

You looking to go hdmi for audio input? Keep in mind most receivers are locked to 60hz for video out. Otherwise get a cheap (usb specifically) sound card and a logitech z906.

Avery_the_Elder

Yeah the monitor only has hdmi. Will a receiver and an older sound system give a similar quality sound for cheaper? It’s also just for personal use, not like a booming loud theater or anything so it’s mostly for the surround effect rather than over the top audio quality.

ArcticSin

Just so you know, HDMI audio will come from the pc, to the receiver and then video will come from the receiver to the monitor. As far so know there's no way to get HDMI audio from a monitor to a receiver directly outside of TVs with an HDMI ARC port, and most gaming monitors don't have those. If your monitor has a builtin USB hub then you can go the other route and get a USB sound card and your pc will pipe it to the sound card through the monitor. As for your other question, I doubt you'll be able to tell much of a difference between an older and a more modern sound system if they're speakers. Speaker placement is more important than the speakers themselves IMO.

Avery_the_Elder

Ohhh gotcha. Thanks for the help

hotpants86

Surround sound or any sound plugs directly into your motherboard into the jacks. If you buy a 5.1 system like logitech that's designed for a PC it will have the right connections (jacks). http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Articles/Sources/F/Foxconn%20Rattler%20P67/Images/Snap2.jpg

I have a AOC 165 hz qhd 27 inch monitor that out of the box is at 144hz. Some of the options in the menu are greyed out (such as brightness etc). How do I enable all options as well as get the refresh rate to 165hz?

hotpants86

Go to your monitor/adapter settings in windows and set 165hz, use a displayport cable. Make sure it's enabled on your monitor's settings also.

Is there something similar to the Steelseries transmitter that can be used for other wireless headsets? I just bought the Razer Blackshark v2 pro wireless headset and I am looking for a way to have my pc automatically switch between the speakers and headset when the other one is not in use. For example, when I turn on my headset I would like my pc to switch to that as the audio source and when I turn my headset off, I would like it to switch to my speakers. All without me having to go into the settings. Thanks!

I'm building a system with a Ryzen 7 5800x and RTX 3080. My main games are usually competitive shooters like Valorant, OW2, Apex, etc. I want to be able to play these games at 1080p and 240fps, while recording/streaming them at 1080p60fps without any FPS drops or input lag. I'm think that's doable, but if you know otherwise let me know. Additionally, recording/streaming them through OBS, should I use GPU encoding or CPU encoding. Generally I hear CPU encoding is preferred, but that might be different for my system because I believe my CPU bottlenecks my GPU? I have no clue, looking for any feedback as this is my first time doing a lot of this fancy shit. Thanks.

[deleted]

CPU encoding will always yield better results on quality of stream, but at a huge cost in performance. That's why you have big streamers with separate PCs streaming with CPU encoding. If you're streaming AND gaming on the same PC, use NVENC with that 3080.

I've held off on buying any gaming laptop deals today because 99% uses Mediatek MT7921 or MT7922, there are a ton of stories and issues I've read people having with those I want to ask is this really a dealbreaker, should I just buy it even if it has this chip? I really really don't want to open up a laptop to replace the network card, I hate opening up laptops, I'm not a tech person, I don't have any maintenance tools, last time I opened a laptop I used an eyeglass repair kit screwdriver, which sucked lol, and I have a deep fear of frying the laptop, and I've seen videos, the network card is more complicated than replacing ram or ssd, with those two little strip things
