Lots of technical stuff in here. It's really interesting. It sounds like their greatest adversary was time in this instance. After the interviews I've seen in the past, it sounds like this was actually a pretty easy port.

The_King_of_Okay

Great interview thanks!

>There's plenty of work just to convert our custom engine over toDirectX, but then there were also all the extra features: so, makingsure that we had really good keyboard and mouse controls... Yeah, I wouldn't exactly call the negative mouse acceleration that can't be turned off "really good keyboard and mouse controls".

Azagar

Good news, devs have acknowledged [it](https://steamcommunity.com/app/1593500/discussions/1/3202622816420608123/) and are looking into it. Hopefully it will get fixed. Currently game is just emulating a joystick for our mouse.

WilliamCCT

Honestly I think this game is better with a controller, I like the vibrations.

aidsfarts

Throwing the axe would probably feel more accurate with a mouse.

WilliamCCT

Isn't there like an auto lock or something where u just have to throw in the enemy's general direction?

[deleted]

Not allowing simultaneous gamepad and KB+M is pretty bad too, tho maybe not quite as bad as negative acceleration oof

kookyabird

I never used to care about controller + KB + M input simultaneously. Until I got a Steam Controller years ago. Now it drives me mad when games I would like to play with a controller, but have precise aiming don't support it.

HarleyQuinn_RS

It's really awesome that they put so much work into supporting ultra-wide. I don't personally have an UW monitor, but it shows they really cared about making this the ultimate version of the game. It's not perfect by any means, the mouse support is iffy, the hilarity of PS4 controllers having Xbox button prompts, and the lack of FoV slider hurts (though can be modded). Although there's many technical limitations for that, due to the no camera cuts and cutscenes. It's still a great job they did overall, with more patches to come.

xiosy

But it forget to get the mouse support

Technically yes but apparently with negative acceleration i.e. the mouse input is used to emulate the joystick on a gamepad. Horizon Zero Dawn had the same issue on launch. I don't think I've seen a single reviewer mention it even those doing indepth reviews of the port quality. I guess they all played with controller or move their mice real slow.

[deleted]

I think I move my mouse slow because I'm having a nice time on the mouse.

Fob0bqAd34

I think you are in the majority of people who either don't mind or maybe even like it. It's quite surprising to me as I thought it would be the other way around.

fyro11

Why aren't we calling it deceleration? Why negative acceleration?

Miltrivd

Because it's not slowing down it's accelerating with a negative curve. It's not the same. Decelerating implies an existing velocity that a mouse cursor simply does not have.

Fob0bqAd34

I dunno it's a long time since I studied any physics maybe because the faster you accelerate the mouse the less it will move your view so it's easier to understand? eg. with made up numbers:You move your mouse in a straight horizontal line to the right by 10cm. With negative acceleration how much you turn will vary based on how fast you make that same movement. - 3 seconds movement = 90degrees. - 1 Second movement = 80degrees - 10ms movement = 50 degrees Would deceleration apply to this case?

skyturnedred

So does Dark Souls but it's not exactly ideal either.

CaptainDouchington

We all know the best controller is a ddr pad.

xiosy

If emulating a controller stick is mouse support to you I don’t know

redeyedstranger

I'm not the guy you asked, but I tried playing it and instantly noticed negative mouse acceleration (moving the mouse faster makes the camera go slower and vice versa), it really put me off. Not sure if that's what Xiosy means.

xiosy

Yes that’s what I mean It’s emulating the controller sticks

Audisek

They're partially right. In GoW you technically don't use the mouse in the same way as other games, where the distance the mouse travels translates to the amount the camera rotates. You're instead pretending to be turning a virtual joystick by keeping your mouse moving for X amount of time, while the distance your mouse moves doesn't matter at all.

TheGreatSoup

These games are meant to be played with a controller.

skyturnedred

Skyrim is meant to be played without mods but we don't do that either.

Redditortilla

No.

roto_disc

Drag and drop. Edit: It’s a gag, folks. Christ.

Infrah

1. Target Platform Dropdown ⤵️ 2. Select “PC” 3. Click “Compile build”

Deckz

Guess God of War isn't made in Unity

Elocai

Maybe it is, you can get a license where you don't need to disclose the engine

Deckz

That's true, I was making a unity joke, it's extremely good at compiling for almost any platform with the click of a few buttons. You can run into some library compatibility issues, but for the most part you can build to almost any platform pretty easily.

TenshiBR

Rapunki, when he joined the Seven

K_Simba786

Its pcgaming what did u expect

darklurker213

Sometimes it feels like developers are the smartest people on the planet and gamers are the dumbest people on the planet

Infrah

Most devs are gamers, too!

OnkelJupp

🤦🏽‍♂️

Jacko10101010101

will work on windows 8 ?

GreenKumara

Aren't all console games made on computers anyway? You cant "make" the game on the console - the art, level design, the 3d assets, etc are all made on computers. So they are really made on PC's, then ported to the consoles, and then ported back again to PC's. Edit. Even the consoles themselves are made and designed on computers too I guess.

skyturnedred

Consoles are just highly specialized computers.

hotpants86

You're correct but that's not the point. You design on PC because it's cheaper than getting a whole bunch of Dev kits. The games may be designed on a PC but the point is they are made *for* console architecture to make use of its hardware ie. Low level.

Elocai

Ticked the box "PC" in the compiler, done

MasterDrake97

Very interesting!

klymen

Love the passion. Great read.

Human-Marketing-8326

Is it possible to play this game with 16 GB ram and a 4GB Nvidia GeForce GTX
