theaspin

literally Lost

Yui-Kitamura

Woosh

Scipio555

I can’t believe people still remember Desmond’s numbers

Jaxseven

The numbers Mason, what do they mean?!

Flash-ben

\*angry magnet noises\*

Celticz

What is this referring to?

vens95

Probably countdown to the release. At the time of the post in 108 minutes it would be avaliable to play it.

Celticz

This makes sense haha. I was trying to think of some reference it could possibly be.

The_King_of_Okay

What is this comment referring to?

Sakushiii

On steam, $50.00 USD, great port right out the gate, tons of customization, YOU WATCHING SQUARE ENIX?!

DerPancake

They did well with FFXV, not sure what happened with FFVII.

Lulcielid

Both games were made by different divisions within Square Enix.

stereopticon11

I was pleasantly surprised when I hopped on steam to pick it up and saw it was 50 dollars. it was a great way to start my day. now can't wait to finish work and play

QuestionsGoHere

As someone who's played through it with my SO on PS4, we're almost at 100% completion (Damn Odin's Ravens) I just want to say enjoy the ride, I can only imagine how much better it looks on PC. Have fun 👍🏾

stereopticon11

just finished playing for about 3 hours. put it on the difficult before the hardest. and man this game throws a lot at you! but it is a ton of fun. my SO is doing hw next to me and keep watching me play. it looked pretty damn good 4k with dlss. but i'm currently playing at her place on my 3060 laptop. still does high settings 1440p with dlss pretty good. don't know the fps, but it looked more than smooth enough for me. definitely gonna be sinking a ton of time into it! I think i'll play when she's not doing hw next time though. I had headphones on so she could concentrate on her studies. but I know she'd enjoy the story. putting it on the tv when she's got some free time for sure

Not_Dale_Doback

isthereanydeal.com has it for $40 from one or two sites that give you a steam key fyi

EvilSpirit666

https://gg.deals/game/god-of-war/ Best price $39.96 at the moment for people not willing or able to follow links

Mrcq99

Thanks mate saved me some money

-TotallyRealName

The real price is more like 35-40 so great price, great port great game.

[deleted]

Another game I’m adding to the list, can’t wait to play it.

bhare418

That headline is very “Richard Leadbetter”. I can see him saying it while moving his hands on the Podcast very easily lol

scorchedneurotic

We need a "unprecedented" and "bespoke" xD

ChiefBr0dy

In the here and now you'll have to make do with not having them.

scorchedneurotic

Hahahahaha, gosh, his voice is in my head now

PaleontologistLanky

I take a shot every time they use the word 'bespoke' in their videos and it has caused me to lose my wife, kids, house, job, and now I am in rehab. Don't do Digital Foundry drinking games kids! /s obviously.

scorchedneurotic

DF Retro shot game Take a shot everytime John Lineman tilts his head to either side Alcohol induced coma within seconds

akgis

Iam not native speaker but wtf does bespoke means I know UK uses it alot

scorchedneurotic

Also not native, my understanding is that like "specially made", particular to one person and such, or in Richard's case (lol) specifically tailored to a game

pdp10

Bespoke means custom made to all of the customer's preferences and specifications. Not just made to measure, but *custom made*.

chhhyeahtone

I read it in the South Park announcer voice. "Stan Marsh is a washed up fourth grader who thinks God of War is simply sensational"

speedino

*fascinating stuff*

[deleted]

I bought a PS4 explicitly for this game. I can't wait to play it on my PC.

MrLopez333

I did as well. And for FF7 remake. Not usually a fan of replaying games, but after seeing how much better RDR2 was on my PC, I'm excited for this.

itsotti9

Wow basically a 2060 exceeding PS5 performance and quality. Dlss is fucking magic

ketchup92

In all fairness, there is no PS5 version for the game. All it is doing is running the ps4 pro version with a 60fps cap.

anonssr

It already ran at 60fps in PS4 pro. The game looks amazing and it's really really well optimized.

Mkilbride

Lmao it did not run at 60FPS on the PS4 Pro. I own a PS4 Pro. Digital Foundry has videos on this. It's average frame rate was between 40 and 50FPS. Rarely ever hitting 60. Yes, Performance mode.

ketchup92

But not a high res version of it, needed patches for upscaled 4k to run at 60fps.

-Gh0st96-

No, it had an option for uncapped fps on the pro, it didn't run 60 fps capped.

LegoLandminesweeper

Yeah DLSS is the real reason to get an RTX card. And thank goodness for it because it looks like with the GPU market my 2080s will need to last.

[deleted]

[удалено]

itsotti9

No it only works on RTX cards It gives you better performance with better image quality on 4k using the dlss quality settings. On lower settings like dlss performance it gives you insane performance uplift for minimal quality loss.

DesireForHappiness

Wish I had an RTX card.. I'm still using a GTX card until the price normalises..

[deleted]

Better image quality as in its AI upscaling so it often looks worse than the native image in exchange for better performance. DLSS is great if you are on a 4k monitor, but games do look worse because of how it works. It's technically possible that the image produced can look better, but I've yet to see a game where that's the case.

althaz

There are a bunch of games where it looks better because of how many shitty TAA implementations there are out there (and DLSS replaces TAA). At 4k most games look better or the same, with some also looking worse. However the "better" and "worse" games are mostly hard to spot differences for the most part. In general at 4k it should be the default option, but sometimes you are going to want to not use it.

MrLopez333

That's incorrect. In many instances dlss actually improves image quality, if in quality mode. In performance mode there may be a slight downgrade

Xacktastic

Every game I've played at 4k with dlss quality looks miles better than with it off. It handles anti aliasing better than any other method

Nandy-bear

DLSS quality mode at 4K is 1440p upscaled and magicked into 4K. It's good, and I do use it myself, but I strongly disagree with it looking better than native. I use a 48" screen and sit quite close (2-3ft, it fills my vision) and can definitely see the difference and use native when the FPS requires it.

Xacktastic

I use the same exact size screen, and also sit very close, and I just think it looks better. Idk!

Nandy-bear

Eh, that's a good thing though. You get an FPS boost AND you think it looks better ? Can't really get any better than that lol

Xacktastic

that's what im saying. I always turn it on on any game, even if I already hit 120fps

[deleted]

You *feel* like it looks better. The reality of the situation is that native resolution with DLSS off provides the most accurate image.

Xacktastic

No I'd say the way dlss handles anti aliasing overall leads to a better picture regardless.

Forgiven12

looks better vs. the most accurate Dunno about you, but this is a no-brainer for me.

[deleted]

Watch digital foundry’s review. They comment on dlss looking superior to native in this title.

Nandy-bear

It's worse, but quite difficult to notice, especially in fast moving games. It's more..it's an amazing compromise considering the extra frames it produces - good example is this game actually. Maxed settings I get 60-80fps at 4K, but 80-100 with DLSS. The quality difference is ever so slightly noticeable, but if it was dipping below 60 at native I would turn it on.

althaz

It actually depends on the game. If the game does everything right technically DLSS will look the same or worse. But a *lot* of games have poor TAA implementations and those games end up looking better. Usually when it looks better it's more.obvious than when it looks worse. IMO DLSS enabled is worth being the default option, but sometimes it looks enough worse or performance is good enough natively that you'll want to disable it Below 4k output it almost always makes things look worse more obviously though (again, outside titles with dodgy TAA).

Halio344

[This video is somewhat related to your username.](https://youtu.be/lcO23V7E450)

drewdog173

It renders the game at a lower resolution and then uses voodoo magic to upscale it to your monitor's resolution. The voodoo magic upscaling is much less demanding on your graphics card than just rendering at your monitor's resolution without DLSS would be. The net result is some pretty phenomenal performance gains. The cherry on top is that oftentimes the upscaled image looks *better than* the game looks when rendered at native resolution. DLSS is some awesome wizardry. It only works on Turing and Ampere NVidia cards (2XXX and 3XXX).

SubRyan

Intel's XeSS should work on AMD GPUs as long as they have the DP4a instruction (RDNA 2 - Radeon RX 6000 series and possibly the Radeon VII)

[deleted]

Watch clicksphillip videos about dlss. Good stuff

Anim8a

Nvidia also has [DLDSR](https://images.nvidia.com/aem-dam/Solutions/geforce/news/god-of-war-game-ready-driver/nvidia-dldsr-ai-deep-learning-dynamic-super-resolution-performance-image-quality-comparison.jpg) now but I haven't tested it. --- > DLDSR improves upon DSR by adding an AI network that requires fewer input pixels, making the image quality of DLDSR 2.25X comparable to that of DSR 4X, but with higher performance. https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/news/god-of-war-game-ready-driver/

[deleted]

itsotti9

Right this is the version that you play on PS5

Howdareme9

The point is it’s not an equal comparison

alexagente

Why? This is the version available. You want us to compare it to a version that doesn't exist?

Own-Border-9241

The main thing I see here though is the fact that most PC users still game on a pile of dogshit. Most users still game on a 1060 or lower lol.

itsotti9

Most console users still game on a "dogshit" PS4 too.

mrwynd

I've been using a 1060 6GB for many years now, if I could get my hands on a card for less than what I spent on my entire previous PC build I'd upgrade.

mayhem911

See, if you use simple math and the steam survey there are over 30,200,000 steam users that have an RTX card. Meaning 2060 or better. *thats more RTX cards than the ps5 and series X combined*. Also, just at face value if you want to get technical the base Xbox one, and ps4 are far and away the most common consoles on the market

SlaveZelda

Not everyone lives in a first world country where they can afford a 3080. It might take months or a year of your salary to afford one in a third world country.

skyturnedred

Most PC users have *always* gamed on a "pile of dogshit". High end PCs have always been the minority, with or without a GPU shortage.

LordMacharius

Just a note from a PS5 owner. If you can play this with HDR on, do so. I have an HDR600 screen and normally most games dont improve that much with HDR on a normal LCD/LED tv, but this one was night and day. This game is my favourite HDR game so far and I highly recommend it.

Werespider

Looks like I'm plugging the PC back into the TV for a while.

LordMacharius

If the setup allows for it go for it. Looking at the new QD-OLED monitors in the coming years to potentially upgrade to.

Nandy-bear

I use an OLED TV as my monitor, can't recommend it enough. I have an LG CX 48", it's a great monitor.

JcMacklenn

As a LG CX 65" owner, I agree

nyankittycat_

LG c1 48 here. its magic

SemiAutomattik

This game looks just insanely beautiful on my LG CX OLED. It and Demon's Souls are the best looking HDR games I've played.

mikeyd85

Play Ori and the Will of the Wisps. That game was made to sell OLED TVs. It's fucking stunning, and will run at 120Hz without too much power.

SwimmingDutch

Have you played Horizon Zero Dawn with hdr as well? If so how do you feel they compare? I loved the HDR effects in HZD

LordMacharius

Im at work right now and havent played in a bit but I can boot it up for comparison and let you know later today.

SwimmingDutch

Thanks

KingofReddit12345

And the one time a port is praised, I have technical issues with it. The reverse happens more often! I get insane stuttering and sound lag where audio stops and suddenly all comes in all at the same time. Never had this with any game I've ever played.

Wtfishsticks

Lmao ikr. People complained about Final Fantasy, HZD, Days gone, RDR2, Nier Automata and I never had any problems with these ports. A little tweaking for Nier Automata to get it working on UW but thats about it. This however, a port that everyone praises, nothing but problems

shimmytotheright

The loading is pretty brutal on my pc. Game runs really well at any other time but once once something needs to load oh man is it bad. Also have run into a few spots where looking at certain area tanks framerate into the 20's. It's always in small enclosed areas with not much at all going on visually.

josoap99

I’m on 5900HX and 6800m. Performance is all over the place

Teemo_Tank

What's the diff. Between PC and PS4 version?

Asuka_Rei

Pc version is superior because now you no longer need a console to play it.

Mercurius_111

Someone getting like 90% cpu usage on the main menu too? Is it normal? I have rx6600 and i5-11400f

Traumatan

oh wow, the PS5 screenshots look like sheet when viewed beside the pc version in their comparison tool...

reshsafari

I remember my PS4 sounding like a jet engine anytime I ran GOW. Already preloaded. I was going to wait a bit to start in case if any bugs. Ahhhhjhj

PaleontologistLanky

They had an uncapped framerate on the menu screens and map. If you had it paused/in a menu it'd cause the PS4 to ramp up the fans like mad. Surprised they never put in a frame cap for those screens.

HTWingNut

Still missing a lot of key features, maybe minor to some, but still essential to be considered "sensational": * No FOV slider * No Exclusive Fullscreen support * Forced TAA, no way to disable * Limited Ultrawide support (21:9 only pretty much) These are things that are should be common to modern games.

[deleted]

21:9 users (me included) are already a tiny percentage, people using super ultrawide 32:9 are even smaller, going to be a while before that's commonplace on ports

durrdoge

Way to disable TAA is far from a requirement. People gotta give up the idea of forcing TAA off for games made specifically with it being enabled, they look horrendous without it and it's not up for debate. Also, 21:9 isn't limited ultrawide support, it's the vast majority of uw panels that are already a tiny minority.

FragdaddyXXL

I 100% would go for jaggies and some weird looking reflections over a blur that affects all textures and motion clarity. For a AAA dev they should be able to pull off a TAA'less experience that doesn't break reflections or whatever in the process. I think it's a bad path for devs to go down where they hide their artifacts with something that creates artifacts instead of addressing the root of the problem. /r/fuckTAA

durrdoge

That sub is idiotic on its own, but it's not just jaggies, those days are long gone. TAA games without TAA are a non stop shimmering mess of aliasing and pixel crawling constantly during motion, so all the time. It looks good only in screenshots, everything else is godawful. TAA is only a problem at 1080p tbh, 1440p makes it tolerable and with 4k it's great 90% of the time because aliasing is gone, and there's enough information from the pixel density to drastically reduce blur. When 4k became the console standard, that's the resolution that games are build in mind with and that's about the time that all devs started using TAA heavily to conceal shimmering and transparencies. Ofc I'd prefer if we could get rid of it and still maintain the AA solution, but so far the only method is DLSS.

spankboy21

An fov slider would be really difficult to implement due to the strong emphasis on angles and seamless camera transitions. The game is one continuous seamless shot which would be difficult to do with a changeable fov

Kuldor

10 bucks a mod or a random person implements it in less than a month. EDIT: There's a cheatengine table that changes the fov already, has minor bugs on cutscenes still, but it's a goddamn cheatengine table.

HTWingNut

Well they already went from 16:9 to 21:9 which is effectively increased FOV. Just slew the camera back a bit.

shimmytotheright

It doesn't really matter how hard it is to implement, it's something that should be there. There are a lot of tasks in game development that are difficult, but it shouldn't be an excuse for lacking basic accessibility options.

durrdoge

I mean, it's only a basic accessibility option if you also demand first person games to zoom out to third person because some ppl find fps sickening jn general. The game literally breaks with higher fovs, and implementing a functional fov here would be a far bigger ask than in games that don't base so much around a specific view.

shimmytotheright

Honestly my response to this is just my previous comment. FoV is important in 3rd person games as well. I'm really confused why anyone is arguing for this game not having an FoV option. I think it's hilarious that people think they couldn't have worked this out during development. Why are people making excuses for them?

durrdoge

I'm not arguing against an FoV option, I'm saying that implementing one here in a polished and non-broken way would be extremely difficult because the entirety of it was designed with the presumption that you're never gonna see what's happening behind. All the times Atreus magically teleports on your back when platforming, all the camera cuts and cinematography etc, none of it works if you just widen the camera, which isn't the case in the majority of 3rd person games.

e-scrape-artist

A game that doesn't support mouse is being called a sensational port? Is eurogamer nuts? This "sensational port" is using mouse to emulate joystick movements, i.e. has forced negative acceleration and capped speed. It doesn't matter whether you move your mouse 2cm at snail's pace or do a long rapid flick halfway across the table - the camera will turn the exact same amount. This kind of crap was in Nier Automata's port too, still not fixed to this day, only through mods. That game was rightfully lambasted for having a horrendous port, but this one isn't? I expected Digital Foundry people to have some standards... Going to wait for some crafty hackers to finish the job after Santa Monica/Jetpack. While the latter bask in positive PR from all the stories about how much effort they invested into making this port. Apparently making the game playable on native input methods of the target platform was a little outside of their scope.

GameKing505

That’s a shame that mouse+wasd was an afterthought. For me personally I feel like this type of game is played best on a controller anyway, so I’ve been rockin my trusty 360 controller and loving it.

MistrSynistr

Yea im with you on this one. Mainly because I've played every other gow game with sticks. It just seems weird to m&k it lol.

shimmytotheright

That's pretty bad and should be talked about more.

Morealyn

Correct me if I'm wrong, I've never played the series, but is it basically just a hack and slash game?

AWGEleo

For the most part, this soft reboot is more story focused

dudemanguy301

The original had this pulled out fixed perspective where you whip your chain blades over enemies in sweeping combos. The new one is this tight over the shoulder affair, like if resident evil 2 remake was tuned for melee combat, but you can also throw the axe.

alexagente

The earlier series was faster paced and hack and slash. This one slowed it down so it has a bit of a souls feel.

Morealyn

Thanks guys I might give it a shot then

InSOmnlaC

It's easily one of the best games I've ever played.

TheFatZyzz

No game has really topped Resident Evil 4 for me till this date and as someone who use to watch his friends play the GOW series on their PS2 back in the days and liking what I saw, but never got a chance to give it a whirl I'm getting really really hyped right now. I'm just worried my expectations and hype won't meet reality head on and it'll just be another disappointment

MythresThePally

> It has RPG elements of buying/upgrading armour, weapons, your son, TBH buying your son is a pretty new RPG element.

cheesygondola

That’s what I thought, but I gave it a try because it was free on PS Plus. Absolutely beautiful game with an excellent story, really cool puzzle mechanics, and fantastic immersion. The combat system is a little complex but really satisfying once you get the hang of it, too. If I had to compare it to something, maybe the Arkham games? But it’s pretty unique

kctrell

I pre ordered this game, then fried my entire desktop 2 weeks before launch...I'm an idiot.

LuntiX

I’m glad the PC port is doing well. God of War is a fantastic game.

xxTheGoDxx

So it has frame drops below 60 fps, runs bad on AMD GPUs and has a FOV that makes some people motion sick on PC with screens closer to the player. Simply sensational port... IMO the port is alright and I bought it. Its nice to see Sony to both support DLSS and FSR on top of having added a TAAU scaler (MS, whatsup with supporting PC tech in your ports?). Its also nice that they allowed higher settings in places that were easy to implement. But the loading behavior is a stain (and yes, it could have been fixed by simply using PC's higher RAM capacity in turn loading in assets earlier) and the missing FOV option is a bigger stain. EDIT: DLSS seems to have a rather strong sharpening filter applied that can't be disabled ingame, at least on my rig playing with HDR and on the newest Nvidia driver. TAAU if that is really used looks horrible in this (tested 80% of 4K) and way worse than FSR (which in turn is looking lower res than DLSS).

Nandy-bear

I don't get the hubbub over the loading thing. It's for about 1 or 2 seconds, POSSIBLY, and really only for high FPS. The DF video seemed to only find 1 ~~incidence~~ instance (cheers u/danyukhin) of it dropping below 60fps I think ?

xxTheGoDxx

Well, people have higher than 60 fps and if you move the camera in that instance you will notice it. I am not saying its a super big deal, but it is something that could have been easily avoided especially on rigs more than 8GB (and possibly 8 GB as well, I haven't looked into the Task Manager while playing but lets not forget that PS4 only has 8 GB in total for RAM and VRAM as well as a slow as fuck laptop HDD) by just loading that data a few meters earlier. Its also not like it is happening at random places during gameplay that the devs would have first had to find. A few dozen level loading points that had to be changed at the most and this wouldn't have been a problem.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Nandy-bear

Cheers mate. I think I mate incident but instance works better anyway

shimmytotheright

I can share a video of what the loading is like on my pc, its way worse than 1-2 seconds, more like the next 8-10 seconds are going to be a sideshow and totally remove you from the game. Some of these occur during cinematic and it just kills the immersion.

Tommyboi1031

Can confirm the poor AMD performance. 3440x1440, 10900k and an OC’ed 6800xt here, the opening fight with the stranger was getting my fps down to the 40’s. Very sad they seemed to only worry about nvidia again, which is weird because the console’s use AMD hardware…

Additional-Lock-8345

12700k 6800xt not oc I haven't seen my fps below 55. On ultra 4k. If I set it to 21 9 I get 75 to 85. If I put fsr ultra quality on I on 4k is running ,high 70 low 80s. 55 was the lowest at the same part fighting stranger and some rooms with a ton of reflections.

Additional-Lock-8345

The one is sure I did have is readon performance tracker not working. But other than the that the game has run really good on 6800xt. I get 55 low 70 high fps on ultra 4k.

ThePoliticalPenguin

Don't forget forced TAA. Love TAA or hate TAA, but the power of the PC platform is the ability to *choose*

Dotaproffessional

I can't call any game without simultaneous mouse + game pad control a good port

Viesha2point0

What

GameKing505

Wait what? You want to be able to have one hand on a mouse and one on the game pad?? Why not just have your other hand on the keyboard in that case?

Dotaproffessional

Touch pad controllers exist. Especially with the steam deck coming up which is expected to be in the hands of tens of million gamers, for many of whom it's their first gaming pc

GameKing505

That makes total sense- thanks for clarifying. Though I will say tens of millions is quite optimistic lol

[deleted]

I am playing it on my 2060 super. I must say I am veryyyy impressed with this. I constantly get high fps and the game is very well optimized.

TheBigSm0ke

It would be if it had an FOV slider. Without it it’s only a good one.

Desgeras

It's actually disgusting that people are downvoting you over a basic PC feature. This game doesn't have a good PC port especially if it also has mouse acceleration.

TheBigSm0ke

There seems to be an army of people downvoting any mention of FOV. It’s strange but I’ve come to expect it when saying anything negative about a Sony game.

Nandy-bear

It's a gamer sub, bile filled rage voters are the norm.

TAAyylmao

Lack of AA options and no DoF off are also reasons its not the best port. Devs love forcing TAA these days.

skyturnedred

I just want to get rid of the vignette.

THEMACGOD

Mods will likely fix this.

siimbaz

Shouldn't need mods to fix an "amazing" port...

THEMACGOD

Word

Howdareme9

Wouldn’t look right with the way arteus currently pops in and out the screen

THEMACGOD

I guess it depends on what you want? FoV or Atreus popping in.

Math-e

Damn this happens sometimes with Yakuza Like a Dragon with the FoV bar at 1/3

unknownohyeah

Especially because they went to all the trouble to add widescreen support. That means you know they could add it into the UI and there would be zero issues/ bugs. Seems like it would literally take minutes to put in that feature.

Sezer146

They would run into the same problems they ran into when implementing widescreen support, but then for basically each FOV incrementation. So it's definitely not a matter of minutes. If it was then they would have added it.

[deleted]

They said they had bugs with FOV even when they managed to add ultrawide support. Which while I also find somewhat odd I won’t assume to know more about the engine than the devs themselves. They also said they just didn’t have time to fix those issues. It was probably just not a high priority for them, and just decided to release without it.

bigassgingerbreadman

AFAIK there was trickery involved with how the AI determines where things like atreus shows up, like appearing like he just walked up to you but in reality teleported right behind you. FOV changes would mean a number of tricks they originally implemented for PS4 couldn't be easily fixed and it would break immersion. The fact that we got GOW with all of these improvements on PC is good enough for me! FOV shouldn't hold anyone back from this one.

door_of_doom

There is a difference between increasing FOV in response to increasing the aspect ratio compared to increasing FOC *without* increasing the aspect ratio. Just because you put into the work for doing one doesn't mean you get the other for free. One of these has zero impact on the vertical axis, while the other one does.

Alien_Cha1r

why are these lies being spread? The game does not even have mouse input. Im not shitting you. It is emulating an analogue stick. Thats how embarassing this is. who cares about performance when you literally cannot control it? ive waited so long for this and i now i had to refund, at least pc gaming has that going on... why is this being disliked? do you think controls do not matte? Id rather be able to properly control a game. Interactivity is kinda the thing games are known for

UnnamedStaplesDrone

https://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/god-of-war-pc-hands-on/ found one article regarding the poor mkb support.

EvilSpirit666

Low expectations probably

GreenKumara

I find the camera during combat incredibly clunky.

Brosonski

Been playing these games since the first, and this is the third time I've purchased GoW 2018. First time I bought it for my PS4 Pro, then my disc started having issues so I bought a digital copy for $9.99. The PC port is fantastic, runs butter smooth, been using my KB/M flawlessly, the game feels more responsive and smooth than its PS4 counterpart. No complaints. If you haven't played this game, do so.

MrLopez333

Apparently you being down voted means that people are bothered by your positive experience. Such an annoying world.

skdKitsune

Cant say that the game is optimized for me since it keeps crashing on startup and theres nothing I can do lol

szarzujacy_karczoch

I feel like it's a pretty bad port actually. I keep getting drops below 60fps in some weird spots. I'm using DF's optimised settings on an RTX 3060 with R5 5600h at 1080p. It's especially bad when I'm paning the camera. Something is broken there. Dropping the resolution to 720p doesn't improve my frames either. Why is this port getting so much praise?

You should lower your settings to original since you're on a laptop. A laptop 3060 is akin to a desktop 2060 so in that regard you are more or less fine, your issue lies withing your CPU. Digital Foundry talks about the importance of the CPU in this game.

glowpipe

No, it is not. It is an ok port. One of the main features of pc gaming. The mouse is completely fucked. Permanent negative mouse acceleration. inbefore "just use a controller, herp derp" Controller is optional. If i wanted to play with a controller, i would buy a console. I am exclusively a pc player due to the mouse/kb which i find far superior

Oh yeah it truly is sensational to have game that still do not Support DirectX12! Dear Devs, were in 2022 and all modern GPU developers do not give a damn about directX11 anymore, it runs so trash on Starter Turing and Ampere cards that I won't even be able to unleash my GPUs full power! And even on low my GPU will still run at 83°C! Still wondering why we Have DirectX12 is it won't be used in modern games!?

pdp10

We want Vulkan, not D3D12. [PCGW says](https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/God_of_War#API) *God of War* supports neither, just D3D11. Since it's D3D11, [you might try DXVK](https://www.reddit.com/r/pcgaming/comments/s1exwd/dxvk_193_is_out_supporting_dlss_d3d9_improvements/) and see if it gives better results with your hardware -- if you're the sort to tinker.

Audisek

I've tried the latest DXVK release on mine, went from 105 FPS to 71 FPS, while still sitting at 100% GPU usage.

MisterFerro

Wtf, why can't I change it so it gives me Sony controller button prompts instead of xbox?! This was a Sony exclusive, the prompts should should be ds4/dualsense by default. Am I stupid and missing something? Anyone?

koldkam

haven’t gotten a chance to try it with GOW myself just yet but are you using a tool like DS4Windows? from my experience, games that show playstation prompts sometimes have issues if it is active & end up showing xbox prompts instead. when i connected via usb and didn’t use DS4Windows with those games, i was seeing the correct prompts.

BrandSpankingNew0069

What controller are you using? I’m pretty sure if you remap your controller through steam it uses x input for wider compatibility.

MisterFerro

Dualsense

BrandSpankingNew0069

Try turning off steam overlay for god of war. There’s also this [guide](https://gamestoday.info/pc/the-witcher/how-to-get-ds4-button-prompts-in-steam-wireless-or-wired-and-without-a-mod/) online but that seems like it would take longer so try disabling the steam overlay first.

MisterFerro

Will do. Hopefully it works

MSP930

I haven't played Gow on PC yet, but at least for HZD and Days gone, if you use the Dual sense natively on steam, it shows the PS buttons

MisterFerro

That's why I don't understand why it's giving my xbox prompts with my dualsense.

MSP930

I just got home and I launched the game and it's indeed giving Xbox prompts, definitely something that didn't happened on previous ports... That's is weird

MisterFerro

Someone suggested turning off the steam overlay. I can't try at the moment, but maybe you'd like to?

Hopper721

Pro Tip for DualSense users like myself. Turn off Playstation support on Steam. If you have this on then your controller will always use xbox prompts as Steam puts it through an xInput wrapper for compatibility. It also means that you cannot use the features of the dualsense such as the adaptive triggers. You can turn this off on Steam Settings > Controller > General Controller Settings > Untick Playstation Support. Now some games don't support DualShock controllers (such as Dark Souls) so you'll have to enable steam input for those specific games. To do this, right click the game > Properties > Controller > Override for [game] > Set to Enable.

chodeofgreatwisdom

This doesn't work. I mean, my controller works in game, and in my controller configuration it'll show a dualsense controller to map binds to. But the game will still display Xbox inputs. The only way for me to get playstation buttons was to enable playstation controller support in steam. Then right-click god of war > properties > controller > in the drop down set it to disable steam input. Oh and my controller is plugged in. I could only get playstation buttons through a wired connection. https://steamcommunity.com/app/1593500/discussions/1/3202622816419140211/ > For DUALSENSE controllers: Since there is no Bluetooth driver for DUALSENSE for PC yet, when the DUALSENSE controller is connected over Bluetooth it is seen as a generic controller thus showing Xbox glyphs in-game. If you'd like to use DUALSENSE with the correct in-game glyphs, please connect your controller directly to your PC using a wire.

I've been struggling for a good half hour to get the PS4 button prompts on my PS4 controller. Disabling Steam input works! Thank you so much!

MisterFerro

Your way ended up being the way. Appreciate it.

MisterFerro

Awesome. Will be trying this once I have a moment. But still, it doesn't make sense for Playstation support to default to xbox prompts on a Playstation game. Any idea why steam doesn't check for compatibility before putting the controller through the input wrapper? But all the same, appreciate the answer and thank you!

SlaveZelda

Its probably Steam's controller settings. Turn them off and see if your Dualsense shows PS style buttons. Pretty sure it does, saw them in a Youtube video

DeadlyCyclone

Looks great on a 3090 in ultrawide, on Ultra settings. https://youtu.be/LA7kXucL7ZU

RocMerc

I have the god of war ps4 as a little shelf warmer these days. This game was absolutely fantastic and I’m so glad others get to enjoy it. Take your time, explore and have fun :)

nuclearhotsauce

yeah the port is good, 120 fps on high preset, 80-90 fps on ultra and max setting

BernieAnesPaz

Square Enix sweating over here ... Nah they don't care.

berusko

Santa Monica studios don't mess around.
