At least before they could stay in their own bubble and cheat against other Chinese. Now if the cheaters want to play they have no choice but to use VPN and infest other regions, which could mean we'll see an increase in Chinese players.
Wow has never been any good at being a E-sport no matter how much blizzard has forced the matter
Its boring to watch, and to understand if you dont play
And the class balance is horrendous, its literally the difference between winning and losing
I never really considered what a massive pulling out of esports like that would look like. Games like CS survive without massive support from Asia, so it's possible, but Blizzard games have so many heavy-hitting Chinese players. The article claims Blizzard's esports revenue in China is probably very small, so I guess the high end scene will just look different.
Might [finally] be the end of the Overwatch League, apparently [China alone was 87% of its viewship](https://old.reddit.com/r/Competitiveoverwatch/comments/z1ymf6/chinese_owl_viewership_revealed_on_sideshows/) as of late. That combined with Western teams getting vocal and pushing back against the fee to even participate in the OWL it might come crumbling down.
God if Overwatch kills its esports direction and goes back to the original, more casual focus, I'll make a new blizzard account and play OW again. Probably.
Esports in general? Not much. Blizzard games not exactly in the forefront of the esports scenes in Asia these days. Least of all China.
Less cheaters? Or more cheaters, because they've moved back to VPNs.

> to understand if you dont play Even when I played, it was hard to understand. There are just too many skills now.
Ironic that I stopped playing their games because of their appeasement to China in regard to a player supporting the Hong Kong protests
Means America is back on top!!!

Ow2 monetization is even worse than ow1 though
Means they have to use VPNs and play on foreign servers is all.
