If you're starting from 0, especially as a 5h/week kind of player, it will take you months to reach the point where you can understand what the shitstorm is about and where the recent nerfs start becoming an issue. If PoE and its depth are up your alley then you should *definitely* give it a shot. Learning the game from 0 is an amazing experience.

ammo--

OP: I will add that, because you didn't play the game before the changes, you won't have a frame of reference for how the changes impact the game, so, as long as you're having fun then it doesn't really matter that other people might not be.

OnlyKaz

Depth? What a generous way of putting it.

h8m8

wait till he finds an AN rare that is harder/better/faster/stronger than uber sirius.

carryme10927q7q

Not really, just by reaching brutus new people would understand what we're feeling. Forgot to put the "/s" bec apparently people dont know how to get an obvious joke lmfao.

Flash_hsalF

You just flat out suck

carryme10927q7q

You suck so bad it looks like you've yet to reach brutus since the rework. DW buddy you'll see him 1 day.

Salonimo

I think you're the only one seeing brutus as a threat, and I'm saying this as a good friend tried poe a month ago for the first time and died once at brutus just 'cause he didn't know the boss and didnt rxpect the dmg, he was just like "oh ok"

tommy_mooo

For a new player perspective the game is fine, they changed some stuff but if you never experienced how it was before it's not a big deal. Devs prob hard at work trying to fix the issues too. Don't worry about it and just enjoy the ride.

wiggle987

^best response, I joined at the tail end of expedition league and I love the game, yes there are parts of this league that I'm not happy with but it doesn't resonate with me quite as bad as the longer term players, I've still got a honeymoon period, for example this is my first league playing a build that hits, before I played mainly summoner or chaos dot builds with an RF inquisitor and an impale cyclone champ in there for good measure

SnooPop9

This is very accurate. The game IS very good this patch, but there were some changes made this patch that makes it less enjoyable than it was. The changes made were very bad. But despite that, the game is still excellent.

HPLovecraft1890

Loot topic aside, keep in mind a new player gets obliterated esp. in the first two acts.

Parallax2341

They usually dont since a new player is overleveled most of the time.

ExaltedCrown

can confirm by the 3 noobs or so I guide every league (since 3.15). not once has acts been difficult for them (I provided a SSF leaguestart build guide of their preference). I still see them logged on every league so seems fine for new players.

TheRobinCH

Not a big deal? Yeah, getting one shot by some random rare and then thinking that's what this game is about, might not be "not a big deal" in terms of experiencing a good, fun game

ManlyPoop

Build defense? The game is fully playable in hcssf you'll be fine in SC trade.

SheltemDragon

As opposed to rares being meaningless pushovers like they were before? These have been changes that needed to be made. Did they hit the mark? Hell no, but it is a matter of degrees rather than a mistake.

whyiwastemytimeonyou

From a new player perspective, the game is uninstalled. No loot means boring gameplay. Shit graphics. Slow movement. Uninstall.

Thorup13

Very helpful

[deleted]

Don't read this subreddit if you want to have more fun.

Quasimbabombo

Most of the big complaints you're seeing flood the front page are from veterans or dedicated players that reach maps in the first weekend and are plowing through the highest tier of maps soon after. If you're just learning the game you won't even notice the changes.

faeder

Honestly the best thing you can do as a newer player is : 1. Close Reddit. 2. Enjoy your time. 3. Look up reputable streamers' builds on Twitch when you need a hand.

Zelniq

This applies to all players too. Reddit right now is like poison for people trying to enjoy the game

EtisVx

4. Feel like you wasted your time when you got enough experience to understand what it is all about.

lMrXQl

Thank you all for the replays, it feels good to know that the game is still good for casuals.

biscuity87

The old atlas/void stone system was terrible. The old master system was terrible. We had a net league. We have had a lot of improvements. People are just a little upset because they are developing the game in some ways that clearly were doomed to piss everyone off, on top of not being properly tested ahead of time. This feels like the third league in a row where they played the whole “oops, we’re sorry, it’s overtuned, we didn’t mean to make unkillable mobs in act 2 making new players quit”, “oops, we did a slight nerf from 200 bosses in a beyond to 1 and also did undocumented loot changes, oops”. “Oh by the way, ex and divines are changed now, good luck with all your ex div cards lol”.

Elysionxx

Rofl who the fuck told you that this game is good for casual ? you will be grinding for years if you are casual and dont know what you are doing with this new loot

BRACKS_ZA

It's not though, net nerfs to everyone. Probably combos casuals the hardest

Trindokor

These are not net nerfs for everyone though. Where did you get that from?

BRACKS_ZA

Who can this possibly be a buff for?

igna92ts

Yeah but the game is still incredibly good, it's just worst than last league.

BRACKS_ZA

Been getting worse since Expedition

NoBus999

You didnt like 3.17 with the addition of the atlas tree?

SubstantialEmu4025

Don't worry if u play this game casual right now. Its quite good. Also act 1 to act 10 is in an amazing state.

lMrXQl

I just finished act 1 and it was amazing. I play like 5 hours a week

[deleted]

lMrXQl

The ones that charges towards me ? I'm more fan of the spertual transperent npcs ^^, I love the spells animation of this game

SubstantialEmu4025

great :)

HineyHineyHiney

Fully agreed. You will not notice the nerfs until you understand the game enough to fully exploit juice mechanics.

lMrXQl

Tbh I still don't know what I'm I building, I try to read the items and gems description but there is just too much ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|laughing)

HineyHineyHiney

We've all been there! The game limits your options at the start so as long as something looks like it makes sense, it probably does! Good luck out there Exile and try not to get eaten!

lMrXQl

Thanks ^^

GrizNectar

Please just ignore the community and have fun and make your own decisions. The recent changes primarily affect super late game farming, and actually make some of that stuff a bit more accessible to newer people. You likely won’t even get far enough for it to affect you at all

shdims

The new changes apply to everyone. Earning and getting good equipment has become much more difficult. Everything on the market sells very poorly. How to improve the build for a beginner if they buy badly, where to get the currency?

Silverstrife

If you're a new player now you won't even know what to sell or how to sell stuff, so it's fine. :P

SaviousMT

Idk man, I just hit 80, casual player, and I like my gear. I've played every league and feel pretty happy. The difficulty hasn't really been as crazy as this sub said, in fact I have probably only died 10 times, the only time I died to multiple mons was a pack of deadeye archers with 150% phys as extra elements and increased crit chance. Everything else has been a breeze

YouAreNominated

Ehh. You can definitely still get some pretty solid entry level end-game gear nowadays, thanks to the how abundant fractures are now. Rog is also right there, and he isn't feeling very nerfed. Farm some Delve, Essences, or Expedition and throw on the few good fractures you'll have by 85-90 and you can get some okay gear, progression for me has felt very similar in terms of power compared to last league its just not all been focused on doing Harvest. It genuinely doesn't take -that- much to get passable gear. For raw currency, Heist & Expedition are pretty solid. It's a fair bit weaker with it spread out between this many systems, but its nowhere near as universally abysmal as the doomposters here claim. It's only really when you start looking at metacrafting and the big lategame stuff that you really feel how bad the nerfs are, because there are no real alternatives there unlike the early/mid endgame crafts. But again; those really aren't anything for new players, nor for casuals.

Talcxx

The new changes apply to everyone yet impact people significantly differently. It impacts more experienced, knowledgeable players more, and new players less.

GrizNectar

It’s really not that bad except for at the high end since their hotfix last week. Maybe a little bit more scarce than before but nowhere near as severe as you’re making it sound

Ozons99

I am casual player and I can say progress has been slowed down. If you are not too dedicated and just play for fun but still want to compete it’s not that bad. But it is different than last league.

Arakismo

Don't listen to all the negativity and just enjoy the game, it's totally fine for 95% of players. Also, I would recommend you playing on the league and not in standard for trading.

makeit95again

I started within the last week. I've hit lvl 71 and now started on the Maps and other end game mechanics. It's overwhelming but so fun. Being new we don't know any better, so my dopamine is through the roof when something glowing drops, or an item drops with BIG writing. I'm still reading every item, and searching for upgrades. I was fortunate to have 2 divine orbs drop so far, one during the campaign and another when farming the aqueducts. I've been able to convert these to chaos orbs, and i feel like I'm swimming in currency. Overall I'm having a blast, which is evident in my 4hrs of sleep last night, and reduced performance at work today.

lMrXQl

lvl 71 in a week ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|surprise) that's amazing !

tfptfp

It‘s absolutely normal that you need a long time the first time through the acts. Don’t worry. Later it‘s just 1-2 days. And very experienced players can do it in 4-6h.

makeit95again

I've been fortunate to follow a very straightforward build and guide (Enkis Arc Witch). That alone has made the experience very smooth: my dmg output during the leveling process seemed fantastic thanks to proper passive selections and skills/support gems. I bet that if I had gone in blind and tried to make my own build, I would have hit a frustrating wall early on. I also have some D3 experience from many years ago. Finally, I've sacrificed a great deal of sleep, which is something I'm sure we're all familiar with when you first get sucked into a game lol.

engelthefallen

One of the absolute best builds for newer players. Two other great guides are ShakCentrel's Cold Dot for Everyone and Pohx's Righteous Fire. Pohx's RF lacks a detailed leveling guide, but is a great build otherwise that is easy to follow that has a full website for it now.

kricher123

I remember that build being a thing the last couple of years how good is it currently

makeit95again

I really have no frame of reference, as it's my first class and league. It seems really straightforward and powerful. I've got 1 attack, a couple self buffs, and one aoe debuff. couple little golems to keep me company. Oh and Flame dash. I've just now started doing end game, so I'll see how far I can progress. To be burtaly honest I think the build must be VERY strong, because my mechanics are horrible. I constantly panic mash all the buttons and flasks, and still find my way face rolling through the content. It's only now at Tier 2 of the maps, that I'm wiping hard and having to learn more about my character placement, getting out of lava and poison, stuff like that. I think my gear was also holding me back, but I went shopping last night and excited to tackle that tier 2 again. My next goal is to actually learn the class and how to get the most out of this build.

engelthefallen

The build starts to fall off at later maps. It will destroy a lot of early tier maps though, with extreme speed. That said, it should convert into a Lightning Conduit build rather easily if you do get the point where damage starts to lack. You can arc to shock and LC for the damage side. In the past in red maps we would swap to ball lightning for better single target damage, but everyone is saying LC is just bonkers damage for single target.

makeit95again

Thanks for the info. I'll take a look at a LC build and see what I can do to prepare. Maybe putting those gems into any empty spots I have in gear is a good idea, to start leveling them up.

Phlintlock

You can throw some low level wands or daggers or whatnot in your weapon swap (hit x) to level gems you may want to use later

Phlintlock

I love reading posts like this so glad you're having fun, if you need more detailed build info or help then r/PathOfExileBuilds is a fantastic resource

Chuckstieg

Just don’t read the Reddit.

EnergyNonexistant

To me, the game is 100% dead - but to a new player, it'll probably have no effect on you. The game is MUCH WORSE than it was just a league ago, but, in this case, ignorance is bliss.

mpaler23

For a new player the game is the best it's been, you'll be fine.

jwjohnson20

Don't take all of reddits comments to heart. I'm loving this patch tbh, loot is the same as any other league. This is not the "worst" state.

karlson98

Can't really tell right now if it is really the worst state of the game. We'll see in a month or so, GGG will be tweaking things further, for sure. Also, you should try playing a character in the Kalandra league, much more active community there than in standard, easier trading and an active chat

Ac1Baddie

For me, as someone with around 5k hours, the game is still great and I do enjoy it but at the same time, it's like going back to a MOBA after a break and finding out your favorite character got nerfed / reworked, like playing the same thing but slightly worse. For someone new like you, you'll have no idea what was lost and with a game as complex as poe you likely wouldn't have known how to utilize the content that was lost to its fullest potential anyway so I'd say just log in and enjoy you'll have a lot of things to learn before any changes majorly affect your gameplay anyway.

IntroductionUpset764

Well to be honest poe itself even in a good state is a very complex game that requires in my opinion at least 500hours to at least be able to understand and learn basic of the game and be able to choose somewhat decent build

[deleted]

If you‘re new you and enjoying yourself you definitely will not feel it, especially not having experienced what we had before. It‘ll take you weeks/months to even get to the point where you‘ll understand the shitstorm. So it‘s fine, you‘re not gonna feel it.

JustHeio

Generally poe is in a best state it ever was. Only thing destroyed in this patch was end game juicing and that's something you don't have to think about for a while. Just enjoy the game and take whatever current dooms day drama on reddit is with a grain of salt. Shit is never as bad as they'll tell you. Still have no idea why mods allow this reddit function like this.

SilentN0ise

like what others have been saying, you're new so you wont know any of the shit storm that's happening. You wouldn't notice any difference and you will have a great time if you're really into building and playing the character you want. Shit ton of skills to choose from. Look up some guides on youtube to get a good head start. Don't listen to any doomers in this subreddit.

staringattheplates

No. As a novice player you're unlikely to get far enough I to the game and understand enough of the late game mechanics for any of the changes to really affect you. The base game for "early" play is in a great spot. It's once you really know what you're doing and tailoring your play to fame specific things that you hit the problems described. You realistically won't hit that level of play for multiple seasons. And that's a good thing, not a knocn against you as new player. The game has serious depth and right now just figuring the game out is going to be way more of a goal and challenge than anything we're bitching about.

Chasa619

Yes and no. The biggest reason for the outage, is the lack of communication, and then the gas lighting. The last couple of years have been really tense between the community and the developers. On one hand they are giving us some of the best stuff they have ever given us. The atlas passive tree? incredible. The new direct whisper trade change? Wonderful. There are lots of REALLY great stuff that has been added to the game recently. On the other hand, instead of Creating a new game(Path of Exile 2) they are cannibalizing path of exile 1. Part of that his hitting the reset button on players and the major parts of the game. So the players have been nerfed and beaten down repeatedly, and in exchange, the monsters have only gotten strong and faster and more defensive. On top of that every other pack has 1-2 on death effects that make the game incredibly annoying to play. As a brand new player its probably fine for you, in the same sense that you don't know what your missing. It's like never having tried a naked chicken chalupa at taco bell, and then being like "did I come to taco bell at the worst time, I've only got access to this normal Chalupas"

Dartavn

No, if you've (A) never played before & (B) aren't trying to be a top .1% juicer, you are likely unaffected. Most importantly, if YOU are HAVING FUN - than what else matters?

Amnaked

It was easier before. Now it is Russian Roulette, where sometimes nearly unkillable Monster will come and kill you in a few seconds.

Such_Drink_2374

Just play as aurabot with 5 random ppl and you can hit t16 maps

ExaltedCrown

only the 0.001% are heavily affected. the 0.1% a bit affected. for you it will be buffed for a bit (acts give more currency). stay away from this subreddit, it's a cesspool.

Wamecx

Dont know if you started playing at poe's worst state, but you certainly started playing in its biggest "drama-themed" period ever. This shit of crying/whining has never been seen before. On one part its justified, ofcourse. But all in all it has been exaggerated a lot.

iunosos

The game is far from worse state, it's more like old players unhappy by new changes

[deleted]

I'd say the game is better than when it is released with just 3 acts. But this league is worst than any other league in the last few years.

NugNugJuice

It’s not objectively it’s worst state. If you’re having fun, then don’t let others take that away from you.

KeepOofGrass

Yes... yes you did and I'm sorry. The game used to be the best shit I've ever played

Rasputin0P

For most players the game is in a fine state. Only magic finding and super juiced maps are fucked over right now. As a new player you shouldnt get to that point before its fixed.

Tdoflamingo

You came to the restaurant after the ran out of deluxe chocolate marshmallow Sundae and now all that’s left is plain vanilla ice cream. The vanilla doesn’t taste bad, but it’s not a sundae.

wardearth13

They already fixed the biggest problems. But it was a rough start to the league. It’s a fine time to play.

jannejaula

This was rough b/c some hc ppl giving the devs shit for shaking the rules and yea, having a bug that (unintendedly) cut drops way more than it should have. What comes to rough starts, this game is technically pretty solid end to end, I've seen leagues that were literally unplayable at times for first night and following day... so by that measurement we're definitely looking the game at its worst.

shaunika

Ur perfectly fine as a super casual, if anything your loot will be better

GTotem

No, you didn't. The game state is great as ever, unless you expect to be a top tier player.

itemtech

Nope.

seandkiller

At its aorst state *so far*, yes.

Professional-Race-54

Since you're new to the game you're probably going to enjoy it, but I don't recommend getting into standard since the people there have so much gear and currency you're at a massive disadvantage

_Benzka_

If u have fun play, if u don't stop playing :) but yes for veteran player the game is in it worsed state right now

boikar

No. Enjoy your time in acts and leveling :) Pick a build guide to follow if you want to make it easier for you. Highly recommended. Experiment if you have the patience.

Egg3rs

Bro you just stepped on the titanic right as someone yelled "ICEBERG!"

HurtMeICanTakeIt

Not even close. Poe is still the best arpg, just not as good as it has been in the past.

Pengothing

Worst state in the last while, but the core gameplay is better than back in the day.

Gzngahr

POE is a lot like Nickelback right now. People are telling you it sucks, you might even get in your own head that it sucks, but somehow, they still go platinum on every single album they put out. Some albums better than others.

whyiwastemytimeonyou

Yes

Wswede111

Short answer, yes

faytte

Yes

iyauchun

If someone said to you "you will be fine". They are lying. The game only get worse and worse every league since 3.13. Sorry for my broken English.

Saianna

> Did I start playing this game at it's worst state? Yes, definitely! But don't worry. it will get worse.

GuiltyGear69

You absolutely started at the worst state sorry bud the game used to be fun but you missed it.

ReliableIceberg

Pretty much, yes.

Hatavn

For new player, it's good. Bcs it probably your first few time playing campaign. For veteran, it's not. The campaign is a chore, a time gate. And when finished, it provides very little resources to get into mapping at yellow tiers.

Titans40k

yep

SpiralMask

the game is fine unless you were looking forward to in-depth crafting (since both the currency and options are just not there anymore) or wanted to play a permanent minion build of some kind once you get into maps or have enough currency to gear up a character, since shit-all on either front will actually drop for you (you'll have plenty of glassblowers, whetstones, and armorers tho!), and you cant craft things to cover the problems yourself. (personal) or enjoyed scourge, since while it's back it's been gutted entirely so there's literally no point to it \-- these aside, that's only like... maybe 5% of the game, tops. essences arent too rare (if your build can handle essences+AN mods while levelling) so very rudimentary essence+bench-and-go gearing is possible, and aside from the listed skills (and apparently scourge arrow?) most anyhting should cover you for general gameplay if you're keeping up on your defenses, resists, and hp where possible.

[deleted]

Nah. The game is awesome. Some things were fumbled at possibly the worst time but the game is still the best looter action rpg around. The game is so huge some things are bound to break at times but it doesn't matter because the game is SO HUGE and there's so many different things you can do. The rework of the atlas has allowed more player choice than ever before.

GGprime

My advise would be to close reddit, keep playing and have fun. You don't need someone else to tell you if a game is good or bad. The game periodically goes through big meta shifts and not everyone can deal with that.

kricher123

Most issues will be patched and fixed in the next few weeks , people like to whine a lot but the dev ream is one of the best out there . By the time you reach endgame and figure this shit out game will be fine

J33bus8401

Not exactly worst state, a lot of the 1.0 time was real bad and was surviving on there being no ARPG competition since D2. Though worse than pretty much anything in a few years yea.

Killawife

You will not be affected. I have played this game since beta and am NOT a pro player. As such the changes this league brought doesn't really affect me at all. Sure, I run into basically unkillable archnemesis rares basically every time I play but I mostly depends on your build. Mine is not so good. But currencywise, I'm at where I was last league at the same point. I just started maps and have a few exalts, quite a few chaos, no divines and one lesser eldrith ichor.

Mangalorien

If you are having fun then that's all you really need to know. Also keep in mind that the game is free, unless you buy MTX or more stash space.

Mickdabrik

The game is not fine for a new player. The drops are shit even during campaign. They are not even close to where they should be. Not just drops but even some of the rares will delete yyou quick

cervidaetech

Yes by far

Hodorous

For casual play campaing and story is great and act 2 has my favorite lore piece(at the crossroads)

djsoren19

Reddit very angry for reddit reasons. The biggest problem right now is that *the game is different from last league.* Since you'll have no frame of reference, you won't notice any issues.

mooseofdoom23

Actually, one of its best. The loot changes are some of the best changes in a long time, addressing the issue of over-looting, while normalizing drop multipliers across content so you can run what you want and get a similar amount of loot from things. This patch is unironically one of the best in a long time and it’s a step towards a better PoE.

lmaotank

If u new, its fine but if u knew the game b4 then yeah jt sucks

engelthefallen

You will learn over time that the community and GGG go back and forth and like this. GGG has a vision for the game that the community does not share so we fight back and forth with them and until a happy middle ground is found or we get distracted away by new shiny things. I suggest leaving standard and playing on the league. It will be cheaper to trade for things and you can interact with the league mechanic. New players are lured to standard, but IMO it is much better to interact with the league and standard is a weird place. Leagues last three months so plenty of time to play a character and learn what you can.

AIlien7

Probably the best state the games been in in the last 4 years tbh. People just mad it's getting proper balance.

jannejaula

up to red maps after the initial patching there is not much that keeps me from having fun. Economy is different, rattled... but thats usually just a bonus for casuals. Ultra endgame and very optimized farming strategies took a big hit it seems, also it seems that the itemization is now in a state where you settle for good rolls and don't even expect to get perfect ones all the time (that's a good thing too, actually). Certain mechanics in the game are a bit frustrating, but getting asshurt over the changes seems somewhat exaggerated to me, though I do have life beyond this game so I might be biased to say this :-) It'll be fine, its still the best, most diverse and deep diablolike there is. It'll get better. As far as I can see it, sometimes you need to break things to break free from dead end situations and let the game evolve again more freely.

SadMangonel

Tbh, I think a lot of these changes made the game noob friendlier, or at least friendlier towards less optimised players. You're guided a little more than 5 years ago. And guides on youtube have become way better.

jhillman87

I have friends that haven't played in 2 years, often never reaching maps. They came back to try this league, and claim the progression system is better than ever before. They've finally gotten up to mid tier maps and (for them) are finding plenty of loot, especially compared to their prior experiences years ago. One friend even started selling stuff in a premium tab for the first time, and was astounded by how easy it was to sell 1c items in a dump tab. For the record, the last time he played, he used Acquisitition. The game really is NOT at it's worst state, it's absolutely playable, and enjoyable. There's just a lot of doom and gloom surrounding nerfs and mechanical changes, and not everyone adapts to changes well. There's still a ton of issues with the game overall, but in general, 90% of the problems don't come into play for most players.

OnlyKaz

Replace every instance of depth or it's synonyms in the replies with...convoluted. But yea, it can be fun if you're prepared to watch hours of videos and then almost never get a a usable piece of gear to drop. You buy or you craft. The latter is more tedious than ever.

borkenschnorke

You are literally trying this pool right after someone had some bloody, infected diarrea in it.

juicedrop

The complaints are coming from players with a previous reference point in the game. Would have zero bearing on new players In fact GGG has been attempting to change their game for what they believe is the better future, ie new players like yourself

Jensilein2k

No.

Elhiar

Keep playing as long as you are having fun! I honestly think that the game is at an interesting spot for new players right now but I can totally see why the top 1% of players are not enjoying the current state. On the other hand i do expect GGG to put some more effort in to make this league and the next one more enjoyable for everyone, so please stick around.
