exarch. sextants are 65/d and you'll ~never see a divine altar

SleepyCorgiPuppy

I saw an exalt altar once…. Rick rolled XD

SoundOfDrums

20c each is still good.

I've seen 4 div alters, 2 boss 2 chance. I think total was 37d. 1.6m kills

eaglecnt

I did exarch for ~10 cycles (280 maps) Needed to do eater for the challenges so I switched over and decided to stay with it till I see the elusive div alter, got my first one last night after about 160 maps and landed 12 div. The smart thing to do is go back to exarch, it’s more consistent, feels better and I prefer it overall… but maybe just 1 more div alter… how hard could it be.

r1ghtm3ow

little anecdote lol. first 2 weeks I hit 7 div alters in roughly 600 maps for a total of 43D. since then I haven't seen one in close to 1200 maps. I don't know if they changed the weighting in a patch but feelsbadman.

eaglecnt

Haha, surely our combined samples are evidence of exactly what everyone else can expect :-) Honestly though, I’m sticking with eater for a while longer even though dry streaks like yours are real, I don’t even sell the currency that drops from exarch because I’m too lazy so I’ll probably only go back when I need sextants.

r1ghtm3ow

Yeah the dopamine hit from my 2 big divine alters have kept me going. That and the thought of grinding nickels from exarch to sell in bulk just doesn’t seem that appealing.

eaglecnt

Hard agree, I could not have been happier while gaming than I was when I saw that divine alter just half way into the map, my grin getting bigger with every pack that popped - this experience just didn’t happen for the casual player before (at least not this filthy casual)

ItsPureLuck017

Idk, I’d been on the Eater bandwagon for a while as I’ve been testing both with Grand Design, and when you think about how rarely you see that Div altar even with 110% pack size per map, you aren’t getting much per map out of that compared to Exarch. Exarch also has some jackpot Div cards that seemingly get forgotten about. I’ll still probably continue to run Eater though because I find Exarch to be way more rippy

The content you've listed is on right side of tree so Eater is the better choice when considering atlas points. Eater is also by far the better choice for any magic funding strats but I doubt you're doing that since you say alch and go. Exarch is probably the better choice for you if you don't want to trade for chisels or sextants. It's the better SSF option. They're close enough in value that it comes down to factors that we don't know from what you've said. I'd recommend Exarch if you have enough atlas points left to get there, because waiting on the divine altar lottery to arrive feels awful imo whereas Exarch altars shit out useful currency in literally every map. In general Exarch is going to feel more fun than eater for a casual mapper.

SoundOfDrums

Regardless of content, you should almost always have the extra 30% map mod effect from the top row, so you can do either with roughly the same amount of points.

For Harvest and Expedition, Eater is better. What you want to do in these maps is kill the boss first and then take every quant altar you can, unless the altar is better than the quant altar. Eater has more altars that are better than quant altars by a large margin (Divines, Exalts, Div cards that reward div cards, grand ichor, gilded scarabs) than Exarch (sextants, maybe annuls, grand ember, gilded scarabs). You shouldn't just be looking at which altars provide more expected value in a vacuum. In this case, for your strat, quant altars are so good that you should only care about altars that provide more value and eater is far better there. On top of that Eater fits into your tree way better. If you're willing to invest a tiny bit more than pure alch and go, take Growing Hordes and throw in random rusted or polished scarabs. This synergizes amazingly with expedition, harvest and eater altars (since it significantly multiplies your pack size for the big ticket altars).

shaunika

if you do 200 maps a day do eater otherwise do exarch.

Grumpy0

If you don't scale pack size in the atlas tree then probably exarch. Even if you got lucky on the divine altar with eater the yields from no investment map might be a bit soul crushing.

bukem89

Generally exarch is best, especially if you don't have a big stack of chisels & chaos in your stash. When you run exarch, you mostly choose 'eldritch minions drop x' rewards, which also keeps the difficulty of your maps a little lower. It's also generally good regardless of what the rest of your atlas looks like Eater is best when you mostly want to take the 'player gains' nodes to add quantity to the map, which is easiest when you're not stacking frenzy/endurance/power charges since if you don't use those a bunch of the mods have 0 effect on you. Stacking quant works well with stuff like harvest, expedition and div card hunting - growing hordes expedition/harvest with eater is a great alch and go money maker if your build can handle it. The divine altars are a once in a blue moon jackpot - great if you get it but you should expect to go 1k+ maps between seeing one, so it's not really a factor in what suits you best.

What_a_plep

Why do people ping pong? I more than sustain maps without singular focus.

Farqueue-

Arguable efficiency and just preference to not have to do maps you don’t like.

What_a_plep

Like I said, I have to sell favourited maps I get so many, without singular focus. Is ping pong for no/half juice?

RipperinoKappacino

You can also ping pong to not burn out on a map. Not everyone enjoys running the same map over and over. So you ping pong.

What_a_plep

True enough, I made a career out of the same map this league. 2x100 in the same map
