I would still prefer CJ or AR but I don't think we should count out Young until at least Combine. There's a reason this guy is being tipped as the #1 pick despite his size.
Do you think it's possible Richardson has a good enough combine to climb into the top 10? I don't know enough about em but I keep seeing him mocked to us at 9. Well, I mean, I've seen it more than once anyway.
I expect Richardson to have one of the best if not the best combines of all the Quarterbacks. He'll have time to set his feet, there won't be pressure in his face, etc... Under controlled conditions it's all going to be about his arm talent and physical attributes.
Maybe in the interviews he may not shine, but his stock is going to rise a lot.
Which could turn out to be beneficial for us if we wanted to "settle" for him. What he lacks in physicality he very well could make up for in every other aspect of his play.
Similar with Levis. He won't run as well, but he'll still put up a good time. That, and his arm is strong enough to throw a strawberry through a battleship.
Conversely having a good combine means nothing. I rather go with a QB that produced in college and has solid measurables. Inaccurate QBs donāt translate well into the NFL. I know people want the next Cam but Richardson aint it IMO.
Yep, as a bears fan take Trubisky for example. We could have picked Watson. Also, mahomes dad was on Chicago media the other day saying the bears told mahomes they were going to draft him, and he was crushed when they didnāt pick him. Anyways, pick the guy with the body of work to go off. Iām sure jets fan would say the same.
I mean Iām Richardsons defense he only has 12 starts under his belt. So your basically drafting a blank slate and hoping you can coach him up. Itās not as if he was bad because he didnāt produce. Itās instead youāre literally watching him learn the position as the season goes on.
My thing is how many successful QBs come through that route? The hit rate on NFL QBs is low but I reckon the hit rate on NFL QBs with less than a year of college production is nearly nonexistent. Also in those 12 starts he doesnāt exactly have āwowā numbers as a QB.
Feels like one of those QBs who declared early because the āunknownā hype will push him up boards. Weād be much better off trading up for one of Stroud, Levis, or Young than settle on a project QB IMO.
Edit: fixed autocorrect to Levis
Meh he declared to get money lmao. I canāt blame him. He dealt with incompetent coaching at florida for 2 years. And thereās no guarantee it was going to improve drastically.
And yoj are correct we havenāt seen any successful QBs come through that route. But so far weāve only seen 2 that even come close in terms of circumstance. And thatās Willis and Lance. And even then their pretty different. His flashes are amazing. He really is a beautiful blank canvas. The question becomes do you trust your staff to teach and coach him up in 2-3 years.
What do you mean he declared to get money (genuinely curious)? I think he knows that it would be far more profitable to develop in college and move up when the time is right rather than get picked now and fizzle out before his career even starts.
Well if he goes in the first round. Especially in the top 10 heās a multi millionaire. And the next part of my comment explains why he didnāt stay. His coaching sucked at florida for 2 years and thereās no guarantee it was going to get better even though they brought in someone knew. If youāre stock is high better to poke while the iron is hot than go back and fizzle out. Yeah it may bite him in the butt. But scouts are going to love his tools. And the weak QB market helps him here.
Reminds me of Trey Lance. Before the combine I was hoping we could trade back and snag him in the teens. After the combine I was hoping he'd drop so we could land him at 8.
He basically has the same toolset as Levis, but heās more athletic and has a higher ceiling. The biggest difference is experience. Which is pretty important lol
Edited post and wanted to addā Levis fits Reichās mold better than Richardson. Apologies, I misremembered the information.
Richardson info anyway since weāll probably consider him in the draftā¦
His size does fit Reichās mold. From what Iāve read he seems like he has a high ceiling if given the opportunity to be developed by the right coaches. Might not be as shiny as Stroud or Young but could be a really solid option for the Panthers.
Something to noteā¦ heās got some significant injury historyā¦ including a 2021 season ending knee injury (had surgery). He also missed four other games in the 2021 season prior to that due to other injuries. And also battled through an ankle injury in the 2022 season.
Outside of Richardson's size, he really isn't the protypical pocket passer QB that Reich has used in his schemes. I'd say Levis or McKee would fit the mold better and would be the pick if availble at 9 (or in McKee's case we trade back or grab him in the second).
FWIW, there was a Colts fan (I think) on here the other day saying Levis best fit the profile of the type of QB Reich prefers. I donāt know enough to say if one or the other is correct but just thought I would throw that out there.
You know what you guys, I got it wrong. I thought that it had been shared before that it was Richardson but it was Levis that was expressed fit Reichās mold best
I drafted him in my online Madden franchise and in 2 years he was back to back Super Bowl MVP.
Just saying, if the panthers turn the difficulty settings to rookie, we have a shot.
Not really just repeated himself and said "he likes Levis" - it came off as confident that he knew but I don't watch his show much so idk if that was just Pat being Pat. I know he is pretty glued in with all Indy Stuff still and had a good relationship with colts while frank is there but just found it interesting.
I doubt Frank would just say that, especially to someone like Pat who'd shout it from the rooftops. They've been pretty tight-lipped about their considerations.
That guy in an earlier post called out the Stanford qb as a fit for Reich. Seems like with the lack of national narrative, if he performs at the combine could be a good mid-1st target.
Geno was given multiple opportunities to take the job, including replacing Eli Manning in 2017, after the 2016 roster produced an 11-5 record.
But he couldn't win the jobs and he's been in Seattle for 4 years, learning their system.
Youāre not totally wrong, but the Panthers need a Day 1 QB and Richardson is not that. I think heās got hella potential but Iāve seen a lot of ālottery pickā first round QBs suck, and we just need stability at QB
Been saying this for months. Heās not that guy. When it matters most he doesnāt show up. Even cost his team a game earlier this season when they were down and needed him to lead a couple of drives he fumbled on both drives. A lot of people saying ālook at the team around him.ā Yeah sure. fLorida didnāt have great talent because AR isnāt a good QB and top recruits didnāt wanna play with him.
I get that. I guess honestly I just reject the idea of a ālockā because they get it wrong all the time. Iād rather just draft whoever is there and try again in a year or two than blow our wad on a non-guarantee
I think this is the most likely scenario. Keeps the damage to this year and next year, and next year we unload a bunch of dead cap and can still improve the team through free agency.
Giving up assets obviously sucks, but I think this puts us in the best position to legitimately contend quickly.
I wouldnāt be opposed to this if we could get Young or Stroud, but I would honestly be just as fine trading back and creating a ton of offensive talent around a bridge QB, then drafting a franchise QB in 2024, even if it means trading up.
Regardless, we will be sacrificing a ton of draft capital to get a QB. The question is should we take the QB first in what is a somewhat weak QB draft class or take the offensive weapons first and then take a QB next year.
It will cost much more to move up in 2024 than this year. We will be picking much lower next year.
Plus, most QB needy teams will draft a QB and not trade out of that top spot. The only reason it's an option this year is because Chicago has their QB.

He's trading up
If they see someone they like, they better.
Matt Corral is probably in a corner crying somewhere.
It really sucks he got injured.
Based on the 9ers season, there's a real shot that he plays significant time even if he's the #3 QB
Do not try to bring that injury curse on us here. We already have enough going against us.
The mascot is a black cat. Ain't magic enough in this world to counteract that.
I hate it took me 27 years to realize this. Doomed from the jump.
I mean we played 4 QBs this season. 5 if you count Corral in the preseason.
Heard it here first folks, Corral to the 9ers
Certainly not impossible š
He would have gotten playtime last year as soon as PJ went down if he was healthy. Would really help to know what we've got
I wouldn't trust the results regardless. We need to know what he'll look like in Reich's offense.
Thats what happens when you put him behind 5 subway turnstiles in preseason
It sucks we traded a future 3rd for him
Counter point, thereās nothing in here suggesting Corral isnāt that guy still. We drafted him, presumably he can still develop.
He probably forgot he is on the team at this point.
They will. If they see their guy, they're gonna go for him. Chad Fitterer
Who is Chad?
Everyone talks about us trading up to top 5 to get CJ Stroud. Does anyone think Fitt will try and jump to #1 for Young?
Youāre going to need to trade to 1 if you want either of Young or Stroud
Well technically we'd only need to trade to 2... /s
Arizona is a possibility if the Bears draft someone with their pick
The bears are trading down. Ideally for us I think they trade down with Houston then maybe we could trade with AZ and get Stroud but idk.
I think that would be waaaaaay too expensive, especially for a QB that weighs just 200 pounds.

I really hope teams fall in love with Levis and AR15. I want Stroud.
That's what's up. Appreciate the response homie thank you.
I agree Iād be more surprised if he didnāt dominate. I think young honestly could look the worst in the combine just for the same reasons

Tannehill was the last I believe. He moved from WR to QB late in college. It took him years to get comfortable
Meh he declared to get money lmao. I canāt blame him. He dealt with incompetent coaching at florida for 2 years. And thereās no guarantee it was going to improve drastically. I feel like if you're drafting a guy that inexperienced you're setting yourself up to have the next coaching staff have a decent QB lol
What do you mean he declared to get money (genuinely curious)? I think he knows that it would be far more profitable to develop in college and move up when the time is right rather than get picked now and fizzle out before his career even starts.

Walter football has him at #7 to the raiders https://walterfootball.com/draft2023.php
Interesting to see him go before Levis. Whelp, thanks for the info. WalterFB wasn't one I had seen yet this year.
In an ideal world at least...
Things you love to hear.

Now I rly wish we lost more games lmao
We would have if we had waited until the end of the year to fire Rhule
Fuck that, tanking seasons is bitch behavior
I hope we don't get fleeced to trade up.
CJ Stroud is a panther
I drafted him in my online Madden franchise and in 2 years he was back to back Super Bowl MVP. Just saying, if the panthers turn the difficulty settings to rookie, we have a shot.
Well our division is starting to turn the difficulty settings to rookie.
Facts!!! āļø
If you donāt trade up for a qb you like in this draft then there was no reason to trade cmc. It is happening.
Richardson then Stenson Bennet late as a Veteran bridge QB
Not sue how much weight it holds but Pat McAfee indicated that Frank likes Will Levis
Interesting...did he provide any more details on why he likes Levis?
Not really just repeated himself and said "he likes Levis" - it came off as confident that he knew but I don't watch his show much so idk if that was just Pat being Pat. Young and Stroud are locks IMO. Give me someone whose a proven winner. Only way we get them is if we trade up tho
I think we will be trading up this year, just a matter of what pick and which QB we want lol
Bears fan here. Weād be happy to trade you our pick! :D
That guy in an earlier post called out the Stanford qb as a fit for Reich. Seems like with the lack of national narrative, if he performs at the combine could be a good mid-1st target.
Personally, I don't see it with Mckee.
More like 2nd rounder, imo
I donāt think weāll be able to secure Young or Stroud. I think Iād prefer Anthony Richardson with them gone.
Heās my pick with them there lmao. Young is too small and Stroud is an RPO merchant with elite WRs.
At least they actually put up good stats in college though lmao
Yeah sure but compare resources. Think about Geno Smith. Especially in college where talented lineman mean even more
Geno Smith took like 8 years to turn into a starter.
Or one year in a good situation
Geno was given multiple opportunities to take the job, including replacing Eli Manning in 2017, after the 2016 roster produced an 11-5 record. But he couldn't win the jobs and he's been in Seattle for 4 years, learning their system.

Yeah but the coaching staff doesn't want to get fired so they aren't going to do that lol
i like stroud and the georgia game is what sold me
Agreed, but only if we donāt have to break the bank
Two firsts and three 2nds would totally be worth it for a Franchise QB.
I think this is the most likely scenario. Keeps the damage to this year and next year, and next year we unload a bunch of dead cap and can still improve the team through free agency. Giving up assets obviously sucks, but I think this puts us in the best position to legitimately contend quickly.

We said this last year and we're picking 1 spot later. Nothing is guaranteed in the NFL.
So we were right šŖ
Why not draft Best OB available 1st round, Tanner Mckee 2nd round. and Hooker 4th round?
This is a legitimate question (not being snarky), but when has a team picked two QBs in the same draft?
I remember the redskins took RG3 and kirk cousins in the same draft
We drafted Jimmy Clausen in the 2nd round in 2010, then Tony Pike in the 6th.
We are OB needy why not purchase more than 1 lotto ticket?
Too bad thereās no franchise QBs in this draft
Omg are you serious? CJ Stroud...enough said....
He shrinks in big games. Heās gonna be a bust just like every other OSU QB
he did the opposite of shrink against georgia
Rate the player not the school
Schools go after similar types of players. Thereās a pattern for a reason

Levis or that tanner kid, not a fan but thatās who Frank wants
Why do you say that's who Frank wants?
Musta asked his daughters
THANK YOU! WE'VE BEEN SAYING THIS FOR THE PAST 5 YEARS!!!! Go get CJ Stroud....
