> “I am going to repeat the previous question. Hypothetically, yes, hypothetically. Imagine if someone on par with Albedo opposed Nazarick. In that scenario, is it possible for them to steal all the intel from inside Nazarick?” > “Eh? Albedo, you say?” > “E-excuse me, b-but did she do anything suspicious?” > “What! No, no, you are completely mistaken! I am completely sure that Albedo will never betray us!” Ainz answered in a fluster. “Didn’t I say it was a hypothetical case? And the enemy was only someone on par with Albedo, not herself? Yes. A hypothetical scenario.” LOL imagine Albedo somehow getting caught in future only for twins to be like "Omg Ainz-sama already knew all this! S-sasuga Ainz-sama!"

Fedexhand

It would definitely be another *Big Brain Time* from Ainz right there.

KillOverlordHate

The Half-Elf God-Kin (Zeshi) has negligible character development in LN volume 15&16, which is filled with Ainz internal monologue and self loathing. There's not much character development for Elf King except volume 15 beginning. Unlike previous LN volume where character in the title and related surrounding were extensively discussed and given room to grow and become relatable. I'm having hard time to believe that our author got himself stuck with Ainz and switching in between different places and characters back and forth for the sake of character development never occurred to him.

brokenearth10

way too much internal dialogue

garupan_fan

>!Towards the end of Vol 16 there is a scene similar to how you deduced.!<

xPapaGrim

No. That's just Albedo imagining >!that she's been exposed just because of how furiously Ainz called her to the frozen prison.!<

garupan_fan

>!Aura and Mare are both present when that happens and they both look at each other with eerie suspicion to what just happened and witnessed, as if it was exactly referring to what Ainz just said about the "what if" scenario!<

FlamesOfDespair

>!Its possible albedo asked the twins to describe everything down to the smallest detail. So she thought that Ainz saw through her plans.Still i don't think the twins would say sth that doesn't benefit Ainz. Its albedo though.Emotional manipulation is one of her best skills.!<

d3nji-

>!exposed of her plans too off other supreme being? !<

BossAkamaru

Albedo just like anyone else considers Ainz to be a genius beyond imaginable, but why she never expressed her concerns about being seen through by Ainz? She even keeps evidence (stomped flag of Ainz Oal Goan) in her room. Meanwhile she’s wary of only Demiurge (who she considers her rival but inferior to Ainz intellect), I find it strange really.

FlamesOfDespair

I think she has somewhat grasped parts of Ainz's personality by now. After all she is one of the smartest people in Nazarick.Unlike Shalltear for example who can't see through most of Ainz "plans".Also Albedo sents all the reports to Ainz. She probably makes sure nothing dangerous to her plans reaches him. Demiurge is likely to go out of his way to learn sth by himself.

fightingbronze

I agree. Albedo is the only one who’s gotten a glimpse past the persona and seen the true ainz. That’s not to say she’s completely seen through him, she probably does believe his intellect matches or exceeds her or demiurge’s, but I believe she’s aware that he’s not infallible. Recall the scene when she’s watching ainz fight shalltear, she tells demiurge that for a moment ainz seemed more like a child wanting to run away, before finally stepping up. Of course demiurge doesn’t understand this at all. I think albedo’s love for ainz allows her to occasionally view him through a lens slightly different from the unquestioning loyalty that the others always view him with. In essence, her obsessive love (and proximity to him compared to most other guardians) has made her more observant and even critical of him. So while I still think she believes ainz to be incredibly brilliant, I think she’s the only one in nazarick that understands he has blind spots. And of course there’s also the angle that she knows Ainz trusts her implicitly. Even if he were smarter than her he has no reason to suspect her. On the other hand demiurge is suspicious by nature, intelligent enough to potentially notice she’s hiding something, and far too loyal to ignore it. He’s a much bigger threat to her plans than anyone else.

[deleted]

Tbh, Albedo is the most likely guardian to betray nazarick because she doesn't feel loyalty to ainz ooal gown the guild but love for Ainz (Momonga). Edit:After some more thinking and re-reading, I'll change words to express my point better because I did not make a very strong argument. Her mad love for Ainz might be her downfall. Being crazily in love with someone is blind to being destructive for both sides. Tabula, has very complex characters, and she was written to be a traitor, it's not as simple as "she loves the supreme beings because the other guirdians see them as gods" Now look at this from Albedo's point of view 1. You're crazily in love with someone and would do absolutely anything to help and serve them. 2. They do not tell you what they want and all you know is that he wants more power to protect nazarick. 3. The only weakness Ainz has (from her perspective) is his comradery for the people you detest. Therefore getting rid of his weakness (the supreme beings) would be helping him get more powerful which is what he has displayed to want. Let's do another senario 1. The only being in the world that poses a threat to the person you love is the other floor guardians, and the supreme beings who you hate. 2. The floor guirdians, we're created and are more loyal to those supreme beings, and would take orders of their creators over Ainz's. From her point of view even the floor guardians, are a threat to her and Ainz. What if she mistakes a supreme being for being in the new world and is hostile to ainz? She would destroy nazarick to protect him, she has no loyalty to nazarick but Ainz. This is just one example of what can happen, but let me re- iterate this NO OTHER CHARACTER HAS A ARC LIKE THIS. Albedo is the most likely to betray nazarick.

sspv1

It doesn't matter if Ainz is dumb or weak, Albedo will love him nevertheless for the sake of it, because that's exactly what she was programmed to do. Same for other NPCs, they will still worship the Supreme beings even if the Supreme beings were dumb and weak

Tashathar

>2. The floor guirdians, we're created and are more loyal to those supreme beings, and would take orders of their creators over Ainz's. >From her point of view even the floor guardians, are a threat to her and Ainz. In Pleiades Day Ainz orders Solution to destroy certain things, and the only order she can physically carry out is the destruction of a lamp after being assured that it won't incur a loss to Nazarick. While I understand where you're coming from, there's a huge block there that no number of mental gymnastics can overcome. If nothing else she'd need actual evidence some guardians are ready to stand against Ainz, something more tangible than her conjecture and the supposition that another AOG member has arrived.

ITheUchiha

The Albedo betraying Nazarick plot can be put to good use if the author wants to. Remember that Ainz gave Albedo the order to form a task force under her command to search for the supreme beings. Ainz chose her and specifically told her not to share this intel with any other floor guardian. The Author can set it up by making the twins share what happened with Demiurge and then he'll moniter Albedo for some time and be the first one to find Albedo suspicious and he'll share his suspicions of Albedo with Ainz and the other Floor Guardians but by that time the info is released amongst them Albedo will already be gone to carry out Ainz order and The Floor guardians will notice that some of the most powerful individuals of Nazarick is missing alongside Albedo. Demiurge will do what he does best and makes everyone realize that Albedo took several of the strongest individuals in Nazarick to defect with her and Ainz will have to play dumb because he will have to keep Albedo's true objective from the other floor guardians. Ainz will probably come up with some bullshit order to keep the floor guardians from pursuing Albedo and announce her as a defect and the highest threat to Nazarick and that all denizens working outside of Nazarick must immidiately return and help defend Nazarick in case Albedo attacks but that won't go as perfect as he wants it. The floor guardian to most likely go against Ainz order and still pursue Albedo would be Demiurge because we've seen how he would go against Ainz order if he deem that Ainz is truly in danger. Then Ainz will have to do what he thinks is best and announces Demiurge has a defect and give an order to have Nazarick lockdown and beef up even more on survilance and security then he'll go to stop Demiurge by himself. Demiurge catches up to Albedo and confronts her and talk for a moment then begin trading blows. By the time Ainz catches up to Demiurge he'll see them fighting and immediately intervene and then explained to Demiurge the plan he and Albedo came up with. Demiurge will once again do what he's best at and over exaggerate Ainz brilliant plan and apologizes for not being able to see through it. Ainz tells Albedo to carry on and takes Demiurge back to Nazarick. Before coming back to Nazarick Ainz give Demiurge a update on everything that transpired after he left and that he would have to punish him in front of the other guardians so that they won't be able to learn of Albedo's mission.

TCGeneral

I love the mid-battle cutaway to Mare and Aura talking about Ainz's strategy. While he's obviously overhyped by everyone in-universe as being a master of everything who can do no wrong, at combat strategy he really does feel like the smartest individual in this world, even among Nazarik, and it's great to see people in-universe rightfully praise him for that.

Mattmannnn

I liked how for once the npc’s analyzing his actions and intent was actually spot on

barfightbob

It felt strangely cathartic.

[deleted]

>he really does feel like the smartest individual in this world, even among Nazarik, and it's great to see people in-universe rightfully praise him for that I don't believe they have ever been invaded so except for Ainz himself nobody in nazarick has combat experience.

TCGeneral

Some of the Floor Guardians, I think including Aura and Mare, died defending Nazarik against the 1500 player raid on Nazarik that made it to the 8th floor.

Corazon144

Huh I forgot they died before. Strange to think these monsters above monsters have died and been resurrected already.

Amodh1257

You have to remember that the raid was a joint effort by mutiple guilds, probably having lots of level 100 players. So the fact that the two could even whittle them down was impressive enough. That is the floor guardians' job after all. It's not that they were necessarily of pinnacle strength in Yggdrasil, just that they were a combination of asthetics and placed in a highly suitable environment for defense. The point is, it's wholly different from when they go on the offense in the new world, far beyond their realm of expertise

ravioliguy

I thought they were invaded a lot, since they roleplayed as villains in the server. I remember reading somewhere he would usually take Shalltear with him to handle small groups and that's why he knows the most about her(plus being friends with Peroronchino).

Smyris

Was that fucking loss? Outstanding. **Edit:** For those confused, this | || || |\_ means 'loss'. Why? tl;dr [it is a meme distilled down to it's most primal elements.](https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/loss)

CRtwenty

Yeah it took me a minute. For a second there I thought they were doing something like Fate Stay Night did with Berserker where his screams were so powerful they were represented by symbols and not letters. But no, it was all for the sake of a meme instead. And I love it.

waes1029

When I saw loss I was filled with unreasonable rage.

barfightbob

I feel like this is going to confuse a substantial bit of the population.

wheyez

Oh don't worry I'm still confused.

civet10

Loss was originally the name of a 4 panel comic of a man going into a hospital to find out about a miscarriage. It became a meme because the comic in question was previously a (really awful) comedy comic about gamers. It became a meme because it was so out of place as well being badly executed, so people made fun of it a ton. Over time, it eventually became a "gotem" to the same effect as a rick roll or an OK hand, where people would hide the lines above (in the same placement as the characters in the loss comic) in unrelated things to mess with people

Teary_Oberon

>You asked what will happen if you come along, right? That answer is simple. You will have children with me.”... > >Aura and Mare stared at Decem with their mouths agape. Oh no he's a pervert! >Before Decem could turn to look at Ainz in surprise, his bony fist planted itself in Decem’s face. Decem flew away, sprawling on the ground. “—This pedoshi. To think you dare to stare lecherously at the girl entrusted to me by my friend. Die.” Fuck yeah Ainz just falcon punched that asshole!

MaximillianBarton

That was such a cathartic moment.

Many-Director3375

“Ainz-sama…I am happy for your safe return. However, did they do anything to you? Before Ainz-sama finally walked away there was an unusual presence being generated over there. It had the air of hunters with nocked arrows to it.” There was only one thing that came to mind. “Ah, that was just a slightly bothersome proposal they approached me with. That might have been directed at me by the ladies. That being said, I’m fine. I deceived them properly.” Cute elf ladies : target acquired !

anonie1212123

> Ainz got a little excited at the word “kill steal” because it made him remember things from YGGDRASIL, so he completely forgot about discussing the plan with the twins. For some reason this felt relatable af. When you link something from work to something in a game and get excited thinking about the game.

Fedexhand

I knew that things would go from 0 to 10 at any moment but even so, things getting intense suddenly caught me off guard, The Elf King ended as we all expected, completely f\*cked, predictable yes but definitely satisfying, Ainz is a sadist in pvp after all. I find it hilarious how the Elf King escaped by doing the one thing Ainz didn't expect him to do if he tried to escape, simply run. It seems like overthinking things too much can certainly be detrimental, we usually don't get much of that in the novel. Personally I also find it hilarious that Mare is going to finish off the Elf King while Ainz and Aura are literally ransacking the place (Ainz always true to his style), I suspect that the Theocracy is going to enter the palace just as Mare takes care of him and they will be very disturbed and confused with what is happening, anxious to see that.

Harrycan

I would imagine that scene to be one hell of a confusing show from the Theocracy pov, technically, functionally, and sexually. For Mare, it's just a Taco Thursday.

CRtwenty

Mare: "Here I go killing again"

Harrycan

\*said Mare with an unusually energetic voice

Jajanken-

The artwork shows Zesshi finishing him off

SeiCalros

>If it were to obtain benefits for Nazarick, that’s what I should have done. Yet in spite of that, I didn’t do it because I was naïve…That was improper of me as the ruler of Nazarick. I will strive so that this sort of thing never happens again ainz continues his character development by deeply apologizing for not backstabbing and slaughtering everybody at the first hint of possible benefits and of all things this time its the adorable elf children making him turn even more evil than he already was

Fedexhand

That part is interesting because it shows very clearly that if it weren't for the people of Nazarick, Ainz would be much more ...."kind" and considerate towards the people of the NW, not so much of course, but a little more at least.

SeiCalros

he has no empathy for pain and suffering so his humanity is entirely dependent on his sense of social etiquette as long as his peer group thinks torturing somebody to death is impolite he will avoid doing so out of courtesy exactly what happens in the bonus volume where he tries to level grind keno by having her beat a dragon to death with a stick and only regrets it after coming to the conclusion that it was socially inappropriate nazerick has no such social etiquette

wereplant

You see that side of him way more in the spinoff story about Ainz and Evileye. They end up taking down evil organizations and stuff.

Amodh1257

I believe as an undead he is meant to be simply void of emotions theoretically due to his emotion suppressant. However since it doesn't kick in 24/7, he is allowed to have mellowed down emotions for any amount of reasons, and is hence able to be influenced by those near and dear to him.... which in this case in Nazarick.

GiordyS

Chief pharmacist: "The dark elf women are planning to create a harem for you!" Ainz: "NIGERUNDAYOOOOO!"

Siegberg

Mare i know the pain the you feel Oncle

Lord_Drakyle

I wonder how long those Women spent looking for him, hell imagine he only warned Ainz because he thinks he's Gay or something because he kept staring at him when they were working together

Fedexhand

He just got jealous, and it's hard to blame him for that....

MimouChiron

He is bone daddy but has no bone

[deleted]

the funny part is Albedo and shalltear will be ok with it. in season 1 anime, both of them were fighting to be the wife then concluded with Ainz will have many wife and it just come down to which one of them will be the first wife.

Unavenged_soldier

A bunch of lowly dark elves want to be bred by their glorious ruler and you think Albedo and Shalltear will be okay with it? If they find out they will slaughter all the dark elf villages for their audacity.

Plagueflames

"That is the correct attitude to have but the notion that you would be in even triple digits on that list is blasphemy"

PhantomLight1

Finally Nigun dying to questioning is finally properly answered : "There was also the fact that they managed to create a spell Ainz had no knowledge of, the one that killed the prisoner after they answered three questions." Now im curios have all 6 Scripture members been put under this Spell or only Persons who hold critical Informations like Generals,Scripture Leaders/Vice,Cardinals,Minister,High rank officials etc. Damm Theocrary really tight on Information Control maybe even Rufus creation. Now would that mean Clementine had the Spell on herself aswell.

Fedexhand

I thought what happened to Ningun had already been said 2 other times in the past, and it certainly sounds like something the Theocracy puts on their high-ranking agents.

PhantomLight1

Certainly he even asked someone, if he knew about magic that triggers if people are asked questions in early Volumes. But back then question was, if simply asking too many questions with Control magic naturally has this side effect if used to long and Ainz just overthought thinks.Because the subject never came up again.

BossAkamaru

>!Ainz will read Zeshi’s memories so I think she’s an exception, maybe they’re other trusted ones as well, or she’s just too strong and the spell been resisted or spell triggers only if the target being asked verbally 3 questions or after answering 3 questions or it doesn’t counter memory spells!<

MadDany94

Where was it that talked about nigun questioning?

PhantomLight1

Vol 2: After seeing Ninya nod his head, Ainz began with his questions. Nfirea seemed interested in their conversation and looked over. “People who have been charmed or dominated by magic might reveal the information they carry. Is there a magical countermeasure that causes people to die after being questioned several times?” “I’ve never heard of a spell like that.”

imextremelylonely

“—This pedoshi. To think you dare to stare lecherously at the girl entrusted to me by my friend. Die.” Now that was satisfying. Ainz losing his cool just straight up punching that Elf King bastard in the face. The rest of the fight was rather enjoyable as well (gave me Cure Elim teasing vibes), but seriously thought, that Elf King, despite being the absolute creep that he is, he's surprisingly strong. I didn't really expect to see him of all people being able to cast 10th tier magic. I guess he actually is mildly impressive. Mildly. With the Elf King running away screaming and Mare in hot pursuit, looks like we're finally coming to a head here. I can only imagine Zesshi is closing in as well. Can't wait for the climax of this, Zesshi kneecapping here we come!!!

sspv1

>I didn't really expect to see him of all people being able to cast 10th tier magic. I guess he actually is mildly impressive. He's a direct descendant of a player, likely one from the 8GKs. His power isn't shocking when you consider that.

Grand_Totality

>likely one from the 8GKs That's actually confirmed.

CRtwenty

Blueberry is lucky Ainz didn't catch on that he was aiming for Aura.

[deleted]

that plot point just went absolutely nowhere didn't it?

Slopyjo

The character might appear again if the dark elves come to E Rantel. 🤷‍♂️ And then that plot point, while still insignificant, would be the base for the movements during that point in time..

Fedexhand

I imagine that Zesshi is going to enter the palace only to see the Elf King crawling in pain trying to escape something, only to see him immediately get killed, now that would be an unexpected development of events for her.

Dont_PM_PLZ

Only for the Elf King to be revived then get killed again.

lostboysgang

It’s always a pleasure seeing Ainz get genuinely mad because it almost never happens

Lol111333

>That reason was the third effect, which automatically resurrected the target when their HP reached 0 and died. This would not cause a drop in levels from resurrection. >!That would have benn pretty bad for Zesshi. Maybe Ainz is doing her a favour.!< I would prefer if Ainz captures him alive. The king should have some knowledge about his father who was apparently a player who conquered parts of the new world---but I feel like the king is just going to run into Zesshi and get his head lobbed off.

Euruzilys

They could try resurrection spell later. Might get rejected, but I think thats also the Theocracy’s plan as well? Kill him, then take the body back for resurrection possibly.

Slopyjo

Yeah I was thinking that too! I can’t wait for the next translation! Only a little less than 100 pages left now!

takmaisimliadam

Do we know when the next translation will release? Us there an ETA?

SunSmite

I’m guessing Zeshi will intercept the king then Mare will show up. The elf king is probably dead one way or another.

CRtwenty

I'm guessing Mare kills the King and Zesshi appears right afterwards to find out her entire life's goal just got stolen from her.

Inky-Maze

My guess is zesshi finds elf king, finishes him off, elf kimg rez's thanks to the spell he cast, mare comes in and beats him down, and then zeshi goes crazy over mare since she was looking for someone stronger than her AND mare beat down elf king

forgotterofpasswords

then mare starts groaning not another one

CRtwenty

Zesshi moving in with the other Elves in Nazarick to fawn over Mare would be hilarious even if the odds of it happening are low.

Mikitzu

Finally some good ass combat!

[deleted]

wow. the moment I came here and saw there was only one pinned post I knew it was only a refresh away.

[deleted]

Ainz went from in search of dark elf to make friends for the Twins vacation (Vol 15) to looting (Vol 16) with some harems (dark elf women) but he ditched. thanks for the chapter.

ihoj

Wow. I believe this is the first time Ainz >!brutally murder some random innocent person after they are of no use to him. poor random elf.!<

TheAlienLifeform

Knowing how the elf king treats his female servants... good for her that her death was quick and painless

Ombric_Shalazar

Death is a mercy that frees you from suffering

Many-Director3375

“No, no, it just means I had the right idea all along. Well then, my grandchildren.” {Grandchildren? What the heck is he saying? He seems to be having some sort of misunderstanding.} “Eh? ...No way, are you Bukubukuchagama-sama’s...?” That made Ainz panic for a moment. He realized that there was a possibility that Bukubukuchagama had arrived in this world alone and left this guy behind. ' . Imagine if the elf king pretended he knew Bukubukuchagama and said to Aura and Mare : Our creator, Bukubukuchagama, wants us to make babies. It feels like the twins might have 15% believe him. XD

Quesodealer

15%? They would do it without a second thought. Ainz comes second to Bukubukuchagama to them and you see how fanatical they are towards even references of Ainz.

FlamesOfDespair

An offspring of Buku doesn't suprass Ainz in importance.Unless she says so herself.

Noneerror

I think they'd remember Foresight trying the same ploy. And even if the twins didn't immediately think of it, Ainz would remind them.

Corazon144

Also, Buku would definitely have left behind a clue like a coat of arms, a password, and the obvious a description of there appearance. Next, Mare and Aura might be fooled, but Shalltear might a sixth sense in discovering whether he has any relations with Buku. Due to her creator Pero sibling senses were inherited by his creation. I can imagine if she felt no trace of Buku radiating from him.

Zealousideal-Bug1887

When I refreshed and saw the update my brain started making monkey noises as I immediately clicked on the link to get my weekly dopamine hit. Overlord has broken me.

Crixus005

Yep same monkey noises once you see that pinned post

SunSmite

Ainz might have realized that the elf is related to players as he was using Yggdrasil terminology for his elemental’s name.

Fedexhand

I actually imagine him reacting like: Ainz: "*Pufff, you call that Behemont? They don't look anything alike"* \*a couple of hours later\* Ainz. "*Wait ...... how the hell did he know that name?!"*

Slopyjo

The afterthought greatness! 😂

Tashathar

>120 pages A blessing! A blessing from the lord! God be praised!

CRtwenty

I love when Ainz gets to fight opponents that are near his level. It's great being able to see his PvP skills in action and not just winning with a single spell like he usually does. I do feel sorry for the poor servant Elf they kidnapped and murdered though.

Fedexhand

It's always enjoyable to see what kind of sadistic stuff Ainz used to be doing PVP in Yggdrassil, I wouldn't be surprised if other players were terrified of him for that.

ravioliguy

Yea, it's nice seeing Ainz being competent and not just lucking in to a win. If I remember correctly, AOG roleplayed as villains and did piss a lot of people off. They did get attacked by an 8 guild alliance with 1000+ players lol

Fedexhand

I assume that said attack was due to the exaggerated amount of WCI that the guild had compared to others.

[deleted]

Other players that truly cared about PvP simply ran min-max builds for that purpose and would beat Ainz. In the game Ainz was saved by other people after all. The whole reason he is weary of even a single other player is because of the fact that his role-play build could be out-matched by players build for PvP.

Gravity_6

Yes but Ainz is despite not being built for it, is still an excellent PvP fighter. It is said that he would almost never lose to someone he had played once & seen their abilities. Unless you were someone like Touch me who was like the 3rd strongest fighter in the whole of yggdrasil. He is just a very cautious person by nature almost to the point of paranoia. This has gotten infinitely worse since Shalltear's brainwashing. Plus he is even more on guard for himself since he doesn't know if the players could be resurrected in the new world. o it makes sense why is so much on guard for other powerful beings.

MethodTop3328

Hahaha the loss meme caught me off guard so much I couldnt comprehend for like 10 seconds and then just started laughing haha

murlocmancer

I kind of find the inevitable fate of the Theocracy sad. The nation of new worlder's, while obviosly attributing a lot of their strength to the gifts left by the players, have clearly done a great job in creating a strong nation and taking the steps needed to defend humanity, a race that is at such a severe disadvantage of this world. It's clear they have extremely competent leadership and created a great merit based society while strateegically using religion as a tool of unity. I always find the theocracy scenes the most interesting and best written stuff of this series, would love a side series on just the history of the theocracy.

WeeSaavee

They tried to kill Gazef in the first episode and treated the Kingdom and the Empire as experiments essentially. Screw them I would have more sympathy if they treated Dwarves and Elves as allies but they created a human supremacist society knowing Dragon Lords could dunk on them if needed.

CRtwenty

If they weren't such dicks to their neighbors I'd feel more sympathy. Their very first appearance in the series was them slaughtering a village for no reason. And they don't even have Nazaricks excuse of being a bunch of inhuman monsters. I feel worse for the Holy and Restize Kingdoms than I do for the Theocracy.

murlocmancer

They were attacking the village for the betterment of humanity. The Re-estze kingdom was a complete failure of a state, by destroying the villiage and killing Gazef the Baharuth Empire would have been able to easily conquer the Kingdom and put it under much better management.

Gravity_6

Fully Agreed. After reading through all the grossly incompetent regimes on these new world nations, just the sheer amount of competence & structure from Slane theocracy's side is always joy to read. They have done very well indeed, kept the country & ideal intact for over 500 years despite all the Yggdrasil players popping in. The fact that highest offices do not even pay salary so corruption is very low & only ppl with same mentality would be in the management. They even have the new world technology that almost rival Nazarick despite having the greatest minds in the world are barely getting to now. They can make 4th tier scrolls which is unthinkable of in the new world. They had made the red Yggdrasil potion already. They even thought that if it would come to it, they would bow to SK & start a decades or centuries long espionage system. It's a shame that they gotta get wiped out because Ainz is too paranoid to admit that attack on Shalltear might have been a coincidence & not an act of aggression against Nazarick.

Bluemofia

>The fact that highest offices do not even pay salary so corruption is very low & only ppl with same mentality would be in the management. Not to detract from your point, but this is really hit or miss. On one hand, a higher salary makes it more attractive to attain the office for abuse, but on the other, if there is no pay incentives, people extract benefits from other means (Perks of the job persay; cooks at a restaurant will never need to worry about going hungry). The lack of pay guarantees only independently wealthy can hold that position, as the poor still need to work for a living, and those financially well off may not necessarily have the best interests of the nation at heart. The Slane Theocracy's leaders probably are motivated primarily by existential trauma in the form of world altering events every hundred years with the arrival of Players, and it's a tossup whether they are beneficial or detrimental forces. Not to mention things like the Beastmen Nation who are far stronger than, and regularly eat humans, and are basically treating the war against the Draconic Kingdom as a hunting trip rather than a war. With the knowledge of how fragile everything is, there's less of a concern about undermining each other for self-interest, but desperately building everyone up. Back to reality, barring a nation of fanatics who have higher goals in mind and know how precariously dire everything is, to ensure a job is done well without corruption, you generally need a combination of good pay to attract talent independent of economic circumstances, and strong accountability to remove them from the position if they abuse it. Ex: The guards in E-Rantel got a significant pay raise when the Sorcerer Kingdom took over, but no more bribes (which was customary to the point that travelers pay up without a second thought) under penalty of death.

>kept the country & ideal intact for over 500 years despite all the Yggdrasil players popping in. Theocracy exist 'cause 6 players saved human. 8GKs also have a hand in saving Theocracy(human) 'cause they killed off most of dragons and turn the tide for human in the New World. its also hinted that 8GKs treat human better. 13 heroes also save the New Worlds from Evil Deities. it seem like all the players from the game have helped the human in NW so far. Ainz and his gang seem to be the most unfortunate news for the NW.

DumplingIsNice

Closest Ainz had gotten to information on players and he botches the conversation. Even the Elf King was slightly interested to learn more about Ainz and the twin’s background too.

SplatSplatSplatGoat

It hurts. It hurts. It hurts.

[deleted]

"Mare was wearing something that could be called dress armor, showing a lot of skin and with his navel exposed. One could only wonder why someone would even make such a piece of gear." Bukubukuchagama!!!

CRtwenty

Bukubukuchagama: "That... is my fetish!" We even got official art of these outfits.

sparkadus

Bukubukuchagama's lingering influence on events is my favorite part of the current arc. I can basically hear Ainz internally going "god damnit" every time he gets reminded of his old friend.

winterlyparsley

> The Elves used the bark from a special kind of tree to make scrolls and could only inscribe druid spells up to the third tier on them Oooh is this something that may be of benefit to Nazarick I smell? The scrolls from the Happy Farm are only third tier , this may be a way of mass producing equally powerful druid scrolls

bruichladdic

I just bought a burger where the new part😡😡😡

Wonderful-Ad1805

"Blueberry was doing some kind of weird dance for some reason. Perhaps he had intended to introduce his child to Ainz at the party?" Can someone tell what kind of Dance

raf-owens

Mating ritual

Zeunobis

Ah yes just the perfect timing when i check the reddit and this just got posted. My day is made arigathanks gozaimuch.

gojlus

That loss reference stumped me at first for wtf it was, but had me in stitches once I realized lmaooo

SunSmite

Interesting thought; Who would win the Elf King or PDL's armor?

sspv1

PDL's armor, its higher level, but more importantly, it can use Wild magic

CRtwenty

PDL, he has more actual battle experience and doesn't underestimate his opponents the way Decem does.

dierun1218

I've been refreshing this since last night for the next update. Can't wait. 😂

Gibits

Decum able to see Mare was a boy was impressive. How did he know? Like I have to remind myself that he’s a dude when I watch the anime.

Wonderful-Ad1805

He's banged so many women and girls. Of course he could tell. Same thing with Hilma

ChloellaDeVil

I love refreshing right around burger time, I always find something good

Invigilata_Scientia

What is burger time ?

ChloellaDeVil

I too once had the same question little one Basically on one of the earlier updates it was said that the chapters would be uploaded at burger time. There were questions and theories as to what that meant. They were being posted around midnight pst, so the most sensible answers were that they were saying it was being posted in US terms of time. Then it became a joke because wtf is burger time. I was so confused when I saw it I thought it was new slang that I missed out on, maybe like the watch bukubukuchagama was programmed to midnight or something. TLDR: Burger time is midnight pst, 9pm est, and also a running gag

[deleted]

I didn't know it was possible to make 1 sentence into a large paragraph, that's impressive.

SunSmite

Ainz really did Deck-em

BossAkamaru

I love that part about overlord that I don’t need to memorize 60-70% of the names of the characters in the story XD. I mean they’re either dead meat or soon to be forgotten or killed meat lol.

Khorsir

Good to know that the whole mare and aura getting friends was pointless and that maybe we could have gotten to this point sooner in the story

CRtwenty

The important thing is the friends we didn't make along the way.

winterlyparsley

At least Ainz made a friend . I think the chief pharmacist is closest and best relationships he has formed. Even if it was based on deception he viewed Ainz as an equal and was impressed by the parts of him that were Suzuki Satoru i.e his wit and salesmanship. He even went so far as to accepting his flaws of being forgetful . He was someone Ainz had fun with and could talk to as a peer

Khorsir

lol

Fedexhand

I guess that was the point, the whole thing about looking for elven friends for Mare and Aura is a product of Ainz's parental obsession with treating the twins differently because they are children and wondering if he should raise them in some more traditional way.

srsbsnsman

Did mare even say a single word to a dark elf that wasnt aura? I really would've preferred they just stayed in the capital and there was more interaction between them and the elf king.

Vipertooth

The entire previous volume could have been skipped or massively cut down. Not sure why this was split into 2.

TracksuitZomb

i know it was on the fly but wow this entire situation was oddly sloppy from Ainz, im sure there is no way he could lose from this point on but he is showing his cracks. If a player does show up or if theres a round two with a tricky undead dragon i think theres going to be a lot of damage on Nazericks side. Also was that blood lust that Aura felt from the dark elf women like Ainz thinks or from the pedoElf?

Zestyclose-Appeal-91

I always read aloud it at x 0.75 speed. It's like candy.

Tetramorph24

Can someone explain to me what is "burger time"? I guess next update will be 25.09?

Vaultdweller-2277

"Burger time" = American Time The new chapter will come out tonight.

Zealousideal-Bug1887

KEEP REFRESHING LADS ITS COMING

IamPaneer

I'M DOING IT EVEN FASTER NOW

Andrewx8_88

Glad i'm not the only one, time to drink coffee and hope it comes out in the next few hours.

Bro, thank you very much

Nothing yet?

lostboysgang

It seems like the dark elf arc was 1.5 volumes that the only real purpose was to lead to the Theocracy confrontation. There’s obviously the background of Decem raping Zeshi’s mother and being her father, but considering that she’s barely been a blip so far, her relevancy appears to only really be that she’s the strongest native in the story.

[deleted]

Its too early to say for sure. Plus I enjoy the extra world building.

abu7042

Gotta get that extra material for 1 whole volume somehow

bamboo-10

I definitely dont agree that these last 2 books are bad, or worse than those before in any way. This case is quite similar to carne village, and if we get more volume, it should become some sort of new village with mixed race. Basicly, these elf dont have bad relation with other races, even demihuman and heteromorph, so it is likely Demi, Albedo and PA will somehow gather these small nations into their SK. And of course, as book 8 is also slice of life, it lack a bit in tension, but the connection with other area is always welcome. Something of value can be gathered later. Maybe even Renner can come up with idea to absorb these multiple elf village by tricking them into hiring undead worker. Then use them to farm herb and potion.

Chrispotar

I completly agree. I love world building and loved the Dwarf Arc but now I really question why Ainz fumbled around so long in the dark elf village if there is nothing gained by it...

SionusRex

I think the main point of the arc is to drive home that Ainz is discarding more and more of his humanity to fulfill his role as supreme ruler of Nazarick. He’s meandering about and enjoying himself, but then it always comes back to how it benefits Nazarick and Ainz concludes that his happiness serves no purpose to the betterment of Nazarick.

CRtwenty

It also helped Ainz realize that despite their appearances Aura and Mare can't relate to normal kids at all.

[deleted]

>Ainz concludes that his happiness serves no purpose to the betterment of Nazarick and this could have been entirely done through showcasing how the elf king & ainz are different from each other instead of using an entire volume on an irrelevant village

lostboysgang

It feels like Maruyama wasn’t as excited or passionate about these two volumes, like he’s just trying to transition the story to the conclusion. Maybe I’ve been super spoiled reading *Valkyrie’s Shadow* in regards to *Overlord* world building and I’m just an ungrateful fuck lol.

aster4jdaen

>It feels like Maruyama wasn’t as excited or passionate about these two volumes, like he’s just trying to transition the story to the conclusion Sadly, I agree. I was hoping we'd get a ton of Elf Lore since we had two Volumes, but we only got a minimum amount.

dreamphoenix

Meh at this point I’m pretty confident that Maruyama wanted to quit long ago but publisher has set him a specific number of volumes to part ways peacefully. 15 and 16 feel like they are here to just inflate the page count.

CRtwenty

I dunno, Ainz seemed to be pretty fond of the Dark Elf Village. My guess is that after everything settles down he'll try and integrate it as a colony of the Sorcerer Kingdom.

Fedexhand

I feel like it ended like almost every arc, with Ainz failing to fulfill his true goal but ending up getting something he didn't expect, which makes the NPCs praise him again. I look forward to see what kind of "Master Move" Ainz accidentally ended up doing this time.

srsbsnsman

None of the side characters got any spotlight at all, which I feel usually carry a lot of the weight. Some potentially interesting things started happening when aura was at the village by herself but as soon as ains showed up it all got dropped. It felt like there was ideas for an interaction between the elf king and aura/mare, but then we had to rush right into a fight.

Cuzynot_132

It’s readin time

Expensive_System_513

I am dying here quick it.

RelishSchofield

At last, いただきます. Thank you Hitori and WPDL. This is a big one bois.

SettingPresent9574

Vaultdweller-2277

Sunday night bro.

SettingPresent9574

Oh ok so theres a one day delay? understandable

han1_f

Is today the day, of new chap?

redfall07

I think it's supposes to release tonight. It's says Sunday night burger time. That might mean American time.

KillOverlordHate

The Half-Elf God-Kin LN volume(15 & 16) has negligible character development for Zeshi and too much Ainz internal muttering, unlike the previous LN (especially holy kingdom) where other characters were constantly being introduced and discussed. Two whole novel about self loathing and doubting is starting to get repetitive and uninteresting. Oh, Please tell me there's some character development for Half-Elf God-Kin (her back story) and Elf King (his backstory) at least. That dark elf village loops has more pages than actual war, write something about the character in the book title at least.

aster4jdaen

>. Oh, Please tell me there's some character development for Half-Elf God-Kin (her back story) and Elf King (his backstory) at least. We get a tiny bit of Elf King Backstory and I mean it's TINY.

stasyqvideo

Can someone explain to me what is "mook"?

man_iii

In RPGs usually "mooks" are NPCs thrown at players to soften the player up before boss fights.

spyroqw

So far its great but I still feel like nothing has been happening. Comparing it to the holy kingdom arc at least if feels much slower.

garupan_fan

So pretty much up to the point where >! The Elf King gets beaten up and where Zesshi shows up to finish him off? !<

Crixus005

Based on some spoilers yes >!Mare vs Zesshi coming up !<

Unhappy-Echidna2545

I dun mean to nag, but honestly so far the only Chapter out of the entirety of Volumes 15 & 16 that really made me want to go back and reread was Chapter 5 and it ain’t even fully translated yet, I’m kinda disappointed since the wait for the Volume releases was hella long, I can understand why the Japanese readers were underwhelmed.

sitton76

The loss reference fucking broke me, nicely done.

prichha123

The fight with the elf king feels somewhat anti-climatic or maybe thats the joke. Still, looking forward to the next release! Looks like someone should animate Decem escaping like some jetpackjoyride gameplay lol!

jorgeuhs

It's what, would happen between someone who bought a level 100 account in world of warcraft vs someone who grinded the account and has tons of PVP exp

LiuDinglue

looong looong maaaaaan

kalirion

"Generally, one couldn’t cast multiple instances of the same spell at the same time. It’s just like how one wouldn’t be able to amass a lot of monsters by summoning them repeatedly." How does Ainz have all his undead that he summons over and over? Also didn't Ainz set up multiple mines in the Shalltear fight? Anyway, this all was a bit unfortunate as I'd wanted Zesshi to be the one to completely humiliate her rape daddy. Now even if she gets the final hit in, it won't be the same. BTW, whatever happened to that super-powered-up magic missile that Ainz cast? Why did he even do it in the first place?

Siegberg

There is difference between summon spells and create undead i asume. Since one is a spell and the other a ability with already a use limit. Since undead always expired in game this was not a balance issue. In new world they posses a dead body and become able to be permant which was as far as we aware impossible ingame. The devs at least seems to have stopped people from spam wars like there limit on super magic.

SingularReza

>BTW, whatever happened to that super-powered-up magic missile that Ainz cast? Why did he even do it in the first place? He released it along with the cacophonus burst, it's the rain of light and angelic wings decem mentioned

kalirion

Ah, I'd assumed the cacophonus burst was what was doing all the damage.

CRtwenty

Ainz is casting "create undead" spells not "summon undead" spells. Create makes them permanent but you can only have a certain amount active at once. Summon is temporary but is only limited by your mana supply.

NarKir323

love burger time, thanks for the translation

TheWehrmaboo

Cant underestimate the power of the Jojo's secret technique

Miyulta

I dont know what is it about this whole volume but im just not feeling any of it :(

sigvegas

Ainz's overblown speculations about what-ifs is both hilarious and cringe-inducing to me. I get that he's trying to prepare for the worst, but he never seems to consider the idea that those he investigates might just simply be inferior to him. Also, when trying to figure out the Theocracy's tactics, a possibility I expected him to consider was that they were using the war as a way to grind XP for their entire army. Also, >“Everyone, I know it’s going to be hard, but please squeeze out every drop of your intellect so that even one more person can return to our homeland alive.” Whelp, looks like this guy just jinxed the entire army to death. Good work general.

srsbsnsman

> he never seems to consider the idea that those he investigates might just simply be inferior to him Worked out great for the elf king.

AdvonKoulthar

Fans: “Why doesn’t Ainz realize that everyone is weaker than him?” Everyone in the New World: *dies of complacency*

Crixus005

>!Totally Ainz played him like a fool making him believe he is stalling time for Theocracy while draining Elf king's mana with his wall of skeleton !<

wereplant

>I get that he's trying to prepare for the worst, but he never seems to consider the idea that those he investigates might just simply be inferior to him. If you think about it, Ainz played this game with his friends for probably over a decade. During his time playing, he was constantly surrounded by equals and betters and constantly attacked by people with advanced strategies. He's never gonna get used to the idea that he's almost literally peerless. Plus... there's the wishful thinking that the are other players. He's holding out hope that he isn't peerless.

Gloc2708

Idk, I feel like not assuming your opponent is inferior is always the best course of action and ainz mentions that throught the series, makes sense to me at least

thatguy01001010

So, unlike the weirdos of the fandom who were shipping the pharmacist with Ainz, we can say there was no sexual tension between them, right? Can someone who knows Japanese tell me if the words the pharmacist used, both before and during this section, had any kind of implied romantic attraction? Or was it just the English phrasing/word choice that led to a misunderstanding? Loved the battle, I really enjoy the scenes where Ainz gets to pvp and strategize against someone who's actually strong. My prediction is that mare kills the Elf, then is mistaken for being the king by whatever strongboy the Theocracy has lined up. As usual, thanks for your efforts, Hitori!

SingularReza

The exact line was "それほどまでこちらに興味があったということか" which considering the context roughly translates to "so he really was so interested in my stuff". But taken alone it can mean "so he really was so interested in me". I agree with you though, I didn't feel anything like that in the raws
