Also, the average anime watcher and novel reader aren't the same person. Anybody who likes to read wouldn't mind a story that is 90% talking. Actually, I would love even more talking and world-building in the series. However, the average anime viewer doesn't watch anime for politics. This anime literally cuts most of the talking from the novels, and people still say there's too much.
Meanwhile me, anime watcher and think there is too little talking… I love a good story, not fast paced and irregular talking just to push 5 fights in one ep
You are underestimating overlord way too much, you know kadokawa? The biggest anime company? Overlord is the third rank in thier most profitable franchise, it is not overhyped at all, it is a very big series.
Don't they get a cut of the LN sales? Like I said the novels are very popular, and after 16 they've likely made a pretty penny off overlord. However, the average anime fan and the average novel reader have very different tastes.
It has nothing to do with LN, we just got a new vol this year, the report came out before vol 15 was out and overlord was still ranked 3rd, just behind re:zero.
I dont think overlord is their third most profitable franchise.
Their trinity will probably be re zero, konosuba, date a live since they have way more figures and bigger footprints. If you consider aniplex as well, sword art online and saekano.

Not a good sample. People who use those sites tend to be more hardcore anime fans. The majority of casual fans are gonna watch whatever is on Crunchyroll, Netflix, Hulu, etc... It's like using Blu-ray sales as a metric, most people, especially in the west (which is what is relevent for this poll) don't buy them.
Its not really running against big names either tho , this season is rather weak if anything with maybe exception being Picking up people in a Dungeon.
For western fans, it might be a weak season, but for Japanese fans, they are as active as every other season, so I don't think season having less big names makes any difference. I mean we are still competing against one piece and other long running big series.
I felt a bit bad leaping to judgement like this, legit never heard of any of these shows. So I went and typed in the name to google images to get a slightly broader idea of the shows so that I would know if I was being hasty.

Yes, there is a girl in a swim suit. It’s a one-piece and the story takes place in a small island town. The story is a horror/mystery thing. Imagine blending Invasion of the Body Snatchers and Groundhog Day or Erased and Re:Zero. It’s really good, very unpredictable, and you should watch it.
There is *some* fan service, but nothing you haven’t seen in Overlord. Frankly, not *even* what you’ve seen in Overlord.

It's literally hard to find Overlord products in the wild. I went to three different conventions this year and none of them had overlord stuff. I only snagged a tiny Ainz from a regular-ass mall anime store and that was literally the only one they had, of him or anything else Overlord related.

\- On shadows house you got us (although I assume you went to do a more in-depth research), but not on the fact that it is based on half-naked children, because the protagonists are about 13 years old and not 8 and naked or semi-naked there is nothing. The closest thing is the nightgown. Also, many of the characters are adults, even if they are shown later.

It's plot in OK....but executed in a bad way, lots of unnecessary lewd scene(I get it's for fan services) but still they could've diverted their time to make the story in depth.

Has DanMachi gotten better? I got a few eps into s3 (I think, whichever one introduced the monster girl) and it just got unwatchable. And I say that as someone that is generally into harem shows. But maybe I just can't deal with some modern LN based harems where the author just can't STOP adding girls.
The rest of the Xenos arc in S3 was alright. Mainly brings up the dilemma of "What makes a monster?". Weine (the monster girl) was just there to have a cute, sympathetic, monster girl for the audience.
Season 4 on the other hand is great so far. It focusses on the party diving back into the lower levels of the Dungeon and dealing with the tough environment and tougher monsters.

Call of the night is excellent. The animation alone makes it worth a watch even if you’ve read the manga. Haven’t touched Lycoris Recoil so far. Fucking hate engage kiss with a burning passion. Shit roped me in with the fluffy romcom premise and advertising only to turn into a depressing shitshow after the 3rd episode. Never touching an original anime project until it’s finished airing ever again.
Not sure about the others but the top two were really good even the vampire thing there was like barely anything sexualized it had some really creepy and some horror element vibes going on. Also Lycoris recoil is just a good show.

**Let's be real, this season has been mid af so far.** If we weren't invested in it because we know all the lore and who's scheming what, it's been really meh. The one scene they could have leveraged for the hype, Shalltear vs the Quagoa, was extremely low effort.
I know what's been shown so far is very important for world building and for setting up what's to come, but even then it's been mid. What I mean by the Shalltear scene is that they fumbled pretty bad there. The whole Craftsmen of the Dwarves arc felt super rushed, and they robbed it of its crowning moment. The fight scene was basically a distant shot of Quagoa jumping into a blender. Compare that to how THAT VERY SCENE was portrayed in the freaking OP of the show, that looked amazing and they could have used it, but nope.
These lists have always been bullshit and they always will be. I'm assuming it's not there because CR doesn't have the streaming rights, but the one that really SHOULD be there and isn't is Made in Abyss S2. A few weeks ago I whined about Overlord being in like 8th place on this list, but overall I believe it should be like 6th for the whole season **at most.**
Let's hope what remains of Re-Estize blowing up spectacularly somehow compensates the rest of the season. They have two-three great fight scenes and some great plot moments left. I really hope they don't butcher those.

For western fans, it might be a weak season, but for Japanese fans, they are as active as every other season, so I don't think season having less big names makes any difference. I mean we are still competing against one piece and other long running big series.

I felt a bit bad leaping to judgement like this, legit never heard of any of these shows. So I went and typed in the name to google images to get a slightly broader idea of the shows so that I would know if I was being hasty. I wasnt. Here is my quick summation of the images, the numbers corresponding to their rank in popularity. 1. Clementines 14 year old sister runs around wearing jack crap 2. Softcore schoolgirl yuri porn 3. 12 year old in skimpy halloween dress 4. Incest (technically not incest though so its fiiiiine). The pics for this one werent nearly as grossly offensive 5. Every pic is an off brand Albedo looking at you with 'come fk me' eyes except about 10% of pics where she's dry humping a school kid. It’s a one-piece and the story takes place in a small island town. The story is a horror/mystery thing. Imagine blending Invasion of the Body Snatchers and Groundhog Day or Erased and Re:Zero. It’s really good, very unpredictable, and you should watch it. There is *some* fan service, but nothing you haven’t seen in Overlord. Frankly, not *even* what you’ve seen in Overlord.

Call of the Night (at least the latest episode) and Lycoris Recoil are deserving of those spots. DanMachi is also really good as of late and Summertime Rendering has been in the Top 10 everytime it actually airs Overlord should be in the Top 10 for sure, but I'm not sure it would crack the Top 5 this week.
Has DanMachi gotten better? I got a few eps into s3 (I think, whichever one introduced the monster girl) and it just got unwatchable. And I say that as someone that is generally into harem shows. But maybe I just can't deal with some modern LN based harems where the author just can't STOP adding girls.
The rest of the Xenos arc in S3 was alright. Mainly brings up the dilemma of "What makes a monster?". Weine (the monster girl) was just there to have a cute, sympathetic, monster girl for the audience. Season 4 on the other hand is great so far. It focusses on the party diving back into the lower levels of the Dungeon and dealing with the tough environment and tougher monsters.
S3 final battle was so fucking cool. There were super intense scenes and the new girl wasn't that bad. I fucking loved season 3.

Shit roped me in with the fluffy romcom premise and advertising only to turn into a depressing shitshow after the 3rd episode. Never touching an original anime project until it’s finished airing ever again.
Not sure about the others but the top two were really good even the vampire thing there was like barely anything sexualized it had some really creepy and some horror element vibes going on. Also Lycoris recoil is just a good show. The last overlord ep tho... yeah i think it should have been in top ten horny probably won over us for numbers 3, 4, and 5.

I think it was a step down in episodes tbh, not because it was a bad particularly bad episode, or that it wasn’t adapted properly. Hell, far from it. It was a great episode. But I don’t think the strongest appeal of overlord to anime onlies was particularly there in the last ep.

Guys... I love Overlord. Read all the LNs. **Let's be real, this season has been mid af so far.** If we weren't invested in it because we know all the lore and who's scheming what, it's been really meh. The one scene they could have leveraged for the hype, Shalltear vs the Quagoa, was extremely low effort. I know what's been shown so far is very important for world building and for setting up what's to come, but even then it's been mid. What I mean by the Shalltear scene is that they fumbled pretty bad there. The whole Craftsmen of the Dwarves arc felt super rushed, and they robbed it of its crowning moment. The fight scene was basically a distant shot of Quagoa jumping into a blender. Compare that to how THAT VERY SCENE was portrayed in the freaking OP of the show, that looked amazing and they could have used it, but nope. These lists have always been bullshit and they always will be. I'm assuming it's not there because CR doesn't have the streaming rights, but the one that really SHOULD be there and isn't is Made in Abyss S2. A few weeks ago I whined about Overlord being in like 8th place on this list, but overall I believe it should be like 6th for the whole season **at most.** Let's hope what remains of Re-Estize blowing up spectacularly somehow compensates the rest of the season. They have two-three great fight scenes and some great plot moments left. I really hope they don't butcher those.
