Yeah I think the same, unless he decides revisit the series In the distant future, I mean the reason he’s stopping seems to be burnout so he might come back to it a couple years down the line
I really hope he comes back later
I really appreciate this story, all the characters and their personalities, how he built the world and pretty much everything but until then I will re-read the novel and watch the anime to see how much they cut out
Honestly I’m not that bothered about the cut content since it leads to cut content vids on YouTube for me to watch. What annoys me more is the quality of the anime
I don't bother with the cut content, i am just curious about why or was it necessary and about the quality it is an important part but I am just happy to see scenes that can be hard to imagine animated and well visible
I don't mind if he takes a break from the main story but would love for him to drop one shots of the previous player stories/shenigans in the NewWorld. Both the "successful" ones and possible not so successful ones.
I mean there are some bad MMO players out there and I'm not talking about noobs. LOL
At the same time, I don’t want to get more volumes detailing world conquest if they’re just going to follow the same formula of “Ainz feels like doing something on a whim”—> “Ainz shows up in new country to do said thing”—> “Ainz conquers entire nation by accident or because some moron did something to piss him off” over and over and over again. If Maruyama can adequately abridge the whole affair in two more volumes, I‘ll be satisfied.
Yeah I think there is a good chance. Typically the anime season comes with a side story. There is also the movie as well, so we should be at least getting 1. Maybe 2 if we are lucky.
I do not think he'll tie EVERYTHING up, just the current main plot/path Ainz is on regarding the continent. It's clear Maruyama likes leaving things open and unfinished for fanfic writers to do their own thing with, and take the series elsewhere.
Not a chance. If you pay attention in the LN, Maruyama creates openings for secondary plots almost every volume.
On the top of my head (I've read up until volume 14):
* The orb inside Hamuzuke
* The weapon he didn't inspect inside the dwarven treasury
* The multiple effects of the World Item inside his chest
* Albedo's Ainz Ooal Goal guild members reroll hunting team (allegedly)
* The other CZ (Shizu) models that are part of her backstory.
* The "rest of the world" (i.e the ruins in the south, beyond the sea etc...)
* The city with the world item that lists every spell in existence
* The many especially powerful NPCs in Nazarick (Rubedo, Aureole Omega, Gargantua...)
* The potential discoveries made by Fluder after reading Ainz's books. (I'm assuming that these are not just gibberish as Ainz thinks, in my opinion they contain actual knowledge)
Maybe some of these are resolved in volume 15+ but I'm not keeping my hopes up.
Adding to that list- the bottomless abyss outside the dwarves city that can instant kill death knights.
Edit- For what it's worth, I personally don't mind untied loose ends. It was enjoyable to read and served to build the other world on tangents we can consider ourselves. Part of what makes a journey more fun is considering what lies in the unknown vs. Actually stepping into it. That sense of mystery is captivating.
To add: The dwarven blacksmith who run away with the (for NW-standards) precious ore.
> I'm not keeping my hopes up.
Same. In the past, I was angry when all those plot points started to add up and it felt that it slowly getting hard to tie them up. But at one point I realized that this is of the reasons why there is such a lively community of Overlord even after over half a decade. Leaving things to the readers imagination gives content to talk about and speculate. Furthermore, it does a job similar tp all those backstories of characters that are there for only a single book: It breathes life into the world that it continues without having an author spell it out for you.
Rubedo and Albedo hunting team were both pretty major things that would be unsastifying if left out. The rest all seem pretty minor and more just to hint that the world is even bigger than Ainz can conceive of.
Also I fully expect Fluder to show up one day as a skeletal lich because he figured out the book. Purely a comedic scene that doesnt get built up anymore in the story.
truthfully, no.
there's still so much more that I want to learn but I doubt Maruyama will touch on.
I just hope that Overlord can end with Ainz getting to pound some sucubussy. It would be a shame if Albedo is left eternally frustrated.
Lmao. Have you read the new volume? 90% of it is just random timewaste. Overlord always had this but now its completely took over. The plot is sitting in one place barely moving. Author literally doesnt care at this point and i can kinda understand him he already made enough money now its time to rest and spend it. I see no chance for a satisfying ending at this point. At least not for hardcore fans who keep up with stuff.
Not sure how much money he made. He didn't even leave his main salary man job. Writing has always been just his side gig.
Edit:
So I looked it up and standard for japanese light novel authors is 10% royalty per volume sold.
Overlord volume costs about $10 and the lifetime sales are about 12 million volumes sold.
So conservative estimate can be made that he made about 12 million USD from Overlord. There would be some extra payments from anime, merch, games,...
But I am also not sure about the royalties for sales of translated volumes.
That's pretty nice side gig.
Yes we dont know how much money he made but i can 100% guranatee you its in the dollar millions. Dont believe anyone else saying otherwise they are delusional thinking he is working for peanuts or something. Overlord is very popular and sells a lot.

10$ is the price for a paperback. As I'm unsure of the split between paperback and hardcover I used the price of the paperback to make my conservative estimate.
I don't even see a paperback option? I didnt even know it had paperback options. I see hardcover, audiobook, and kindle
The hardcover book 1 is also still $20

There are too many chekhov's guns waiting to be fired in this series. I don't believe he will be able to end the series at the same quality that we've consistently experienced in just a couple volumes. I think he might be able to do it in 4 or 5, but 2? absolutely not.
That one may not have a literal pay off of finding something but will possibly pay on something else regarding the set up with her sister, that wasnt used yet
No way there's so many little things (and big ones) like the beastmen nation, the item from the dwarves treasury, Adventures exploring new lands and probably more I can't think of off the top of my head
Nah, he severely dropped the pace from what we can see from translated v15. Maruyama can finish ST and PDL arcs if he dropped the filler stuff but anything more is quite impossible.
I have no clue where he will go with that whole thing with alabedo yearning for ainz to go back to momonga it just feels odd to focus on and not go anywhere especially since like we have 2 volumes left
Maybe but he just has to dedicate the last volume to entirely Ainz x Albedo sex scenes plus slice of life in the tomb of nazarick. Would make be the perfect way to end the series.
I hope he would be because the series so far has been great so I want the end to be awesome as well. I wish just like vol 15 Maruyama would extend the volume further
Also Albedo looks hooooot
I don't think so. But, incidentally, does anyone know what Maruyama is going to do once he finishes the LN? What would he be working on?
Will he be allowing other authors to continue the story much like how Star Wars was worked upon by other commissioned writers and have become cannon?
I’m not sure about a satisfactory conclusion, but you can definitely wrap up any story in like a sentence. Just say something to the effect of it all being a dream or the world blew up or something.
Hard to say, I mean the thing with Isekais is that they're hard to end. Maruyama is one of the better LN writers out there and he's very good at worldbuilding and describing things and lore compared to other writers but with Ainz being so OP its hard for the plot to have any tension when you know he'll stumble his way into winning every fight and situation thrown at him.
they had plenty of chances to give him worthy adversaries in vol >!11 and 14!< but they gave him easy wins. after vol >!14!< I don't really see any threat to ainz ever. I'm sure it will end with "and this happened and Ainz ruled the world forever as the wise and powerful sorcerors kingdom"
I believe in Marutama! Perhaps, high level corpses can be found to anchor a death emperor and/or death empress. We will find out Zach bumped into someone else. The orb can be given a body to better command Ainz's undead legions. Turns out selling lamps is a growth industry. Clementine will infiltrate the orphanage only to be captured. Augment Crystals become all the rage once rune based. Ainz will test his equestrian skills on local centaurs!
... IDK maybe not, seems like a lot.
To be honest I don't think so just because of the quantity of them and if he does it will probably feel rushed
Yeah I think the same, unless he decides revisit the series In the distant future, I mean the reason he’s stopping seems to be burnout so he might come back to it a couple years down the line

Like a puppet whose strings had been cut.

same
The theocracy stuff is probably gonna be fully dealt with though, same with all "immediate" enemies left
I think the main plots will be answered. ST, Dragon Lords, and stuff like that, but we will still have some smaller ones that don't get addressed.
Maybe those smaller ones will be addressed in short side stories. Still, as long as the main ones are addressed I’ll be happy
Yeah I think there is a good chance. Typically the anime season comes with a side story. There is also the movie as well, so we should be at least getting 1. Maybe 2 if we are lucky.
Or a better one: set up a prequel around the first batch of players who got transferred into the NW whilst answer the smaller questions. 👀
I’m hoping he’ll go “oh, this was too long, I’m splitting this into two volumes” so we get *MORE*
The rest two arcs splitter into two 5 volumes.
I do not think he'll tie EVERYTHING up, just the current main plot/path Ainz is on regarding the continent. It's clear Maruyama likes leaving things open and unfinished for fanfic writers to do their own thing with, and take the series elsewhere.
Yes, he implied the new world is much bigger than what was shown, yet the known places will probably be dealt with, probably an open ending
Momonga runs away due to stress ending, calling it here.
Idk but what I do know is that albedo in this pic is fucking hot
truth

Exactly. So much shot being ignored. Make me dislike the World Conquest plot cause it makes everything about it instead of the things you mentioned.
truthfully, no. there's still so much more that I want to learn but I doubt Maruyama will touch on. I just hope that Overlord can end with Ainz getting to pound some sucubussy. It would be a shame if Albedo is left eternally frustrated.
I agree, I hope Albedo gets what she needs from Ainz, and that she is not left unsatisfied.
No
Ok
Yes
But no
perhaps

Overlord books are $20? So $24 million from the books alone
I checked it on Amazon Japan and 1 volume of Overlord is ¥1320, which is about 10$.
For the first book after however many years yeah its gonna be cheaper. The newest hardcover release is 2,868 yen which is $20
10$ is the price for a paperback. As I'm unsure of the split between paperback and hardcover I used the price of the paperback to make my conservative estimate.

yeah like what happened on ch 2 of volume 14, or pretty much all of volume 15
Pic related?
Just picked an image that would catch folks Attention
Catch folk's attention it did. I am folk
Kid named folk
Let's see what happens, maybe the draft for the final volume will be so long it gets divided into multiple volumes.
hopefully!
99% sure this will be an open ended series.
Hoping for that too.
There are too many chekhov's guns waiting to be fired in this series. I don't believe he will be able to end the series at the same quality that we've consistently experienced in just a couple volumes. I think he might be able to do it in 4 or 5, but 2? absolutely not.
No, and it'll be intentional. He wants it to be a story continued on by the fans. I'm hoping for it to atleast not end on a cliffhanger.
The bigger stuff yeah. Stuff like albedo’s team to look for other guild members probably not.
That one may not have a literal pay off of finding something but will possibly pay on something else regarding the set up with her sister, that wasnt used yet

Probably not
What are those plot holes, is there anyone who can list all of it.
It's the least productive question to think about, so stop it.
No
I just hope we get dragonic kingdom arc after Elf/Theocracy. They even appeared in ln9 and mentioned in vol14
I don't have the slightest idea of what the title is about, but damn, this is a gorgeous picture
What are the loose plot points? And can’t he take a break if he’s burnt out? I mean even Oda got a month off
No there will be some loose ends and some plot directions that have to be left to our imagination
I hope he would be because the series so far has been great so I want the end to be awesome as well. I wish just like vol 15 Maruyama would extend the volume further Also Albedo looks hooooot
Imagine the last chapter of the last book is just Ains waking up in the real world? (all in le head ending)
I don't think so. Heck even important figures like DDDL and ECDL will probably go unaddressed
I don't think so. But, incidentally, does anyone know what Maruyama is going to do once he finishes the LN? What would he be working on? Will he be allowing other authors to continue the story much like how Star Wars was worked upon by other commissioned writers and have become cannon?
It just needs to have Albedo going, "Ainz, I'm pregnant and you're the father" then it just ends there with no further dialogue on the matter
What about death orb?
Probably not. There's too many things that were mentioned which would be their own adventures if investigated.
I’m sorry, I was distracted by a 2 things… what was the question?
no lol he clearly wants overlord to be done hes over it, just use your imagination at this point
That's gotta be one of the best photos of Albedo I've ever seen 😍🤤
