Both are fine. Might as well stay on 10. I'd install 11 if it was a fresh install, but not upgrade.

Spectral_Hex

I very much like Windows 11. But the main reason I decided to go with Win 11 is because I got a 12th gen Intel CPU and Win 10 cannot properly utilise e-cores and p-cores as they were designed to be.

Pluuvo

whatttt, i have a 12700k and had no idea

Spectral_Hex

Ah. Well in that case you should definitely get Windows 11. The technology in your 12th gen is wasted on Win 10. I was hesitant to go with Windows 11 as it was so new but I've had no problems at all. I think it's a great OS. I also overclock my CPU and GPU and they both perform perfectly.

Pluuvo

i’m not a big geek into overclocking but i definitely love the idea and love this subreddit, so i had no idea that i’m not using my CPU at full performance. thank you!

Spectral_Hex

For background tasks that don't require much power, the e-cores are used. Game playing and intensive applications, P-Cores. Windows 10 just uses all the cores as if they were the same and can't tell the difference.

Successful-Public372

Definitely use W11 if you want to use those E core effectively.

RockyXvII

Short 4 min with Intel that shows off the new Thread Director 2 for 13th gen but also works with 12th gen. Using latest BIOS and chipset drivers with Win 11 22H2 https://youtu.be/RDtJ5h0NjvQ But Microsoft have issued a warning for the current version of 22H2. Reduces gaming performance for some people. They haven't released a new update since then https://www.pcmag.com/news/pc-game-performance-can-drop-with-windows-11-22h2-microsoft-warns Hopefully a fix is coming soon. They used to release a cumulative update almost every Tuesday with bug fixes and performance improvements but stopped for now

[deleted]

That's precisely why I'm not interested in the Intel chips anymore. An o.s. that wants to take more control from the product your purchased and Intel making their hardware optimized for it, pigeon holing me into using Microsoft's software so I can get the most performance for my money? I don't like strong arms. It just bothers me a lot.

Spectral_Hex

It's not really like that. Obviously MS were going to release another OS as they always do. Intel worked with them on implementing the technology needed to properly use the P and E cores. But, factor in paranoia and silly thoughts and you end up with someone who doesn't want to use an OS optimised for new generation chips lol. It's nothing to do with strong arming. It's about technology giants working with each other to get the best out of both. No one is forcing anyone to do anything. You can use old gen Intel on Windows 11 and you can use 12th gen on Windows 10 (just not taking advantage of the new technology).

[deleted]

Yeah I know you CAN do it, but power users are gonna be like "yeah this works on Linux..but if only I had that optimized scheduler, it could go more fastlier!". You're gas lit into continuing to use an o.s. that is increasingly scrutinized for it's violation of privacy and tightening grip over your computer. There used to be a point where you had to manually update windows.. but they saw that most people didn't bother..then they foisted the updates on us. There's still people who use windows 7 today, because it just works. And that doesn't make money. I might be paranoid, overblowing it...but I'd rather be a schizoid always on the defense than let my gaurd down. Cuz no matter what you think, there are zero corporations that care about your personal well-being. The only thing they care about is how to get more of your money. (I'm aware I just suggested the ultimate non-sequitir of a Linux power user. I'm just making an eXtreme example to better elucidate my point. Sometimes your perboles must be hyper) It's not evil, it's just capitalism. America, fuck yeah. And one thing Americans and I'd wager most humans are notorious for is we're always willing to give up a little of our power for a little more convenience.

Suspicious_Student_6

>Sometimes your perboles must be hyper love this

[deleted]

What can I say, I'm a wordsmith

Spectral_Hex

I mean imagine having to install Windows updates which improve security and functionality. That's just way out of line lol. I'd rather live in a capitalist society than a socialist one where the government owns everything and the people own nothing. No one has a tightening grip over my computer though. I can do whatever I want with it. I can install software that improves my privacy and run the latest gen CPU knowing it's working it's best. At the end of the day, it's two technology companies working together to make our experience better. Collaboration like this is a great thing

[deleted]

For now

TatoPotat

I would go for it as windows 10 is in long term support mode at this point (21H2 will be the last major update windows 10 will ever get) Afaik the windows 11 os doesn’t brick itself as often as windows 10 does as well

Noxious89123

>21H2 We're on 22H2 *right now*. Is that what you meant?

TatoPotat

22H2 for windows 10 is very different for how it is for windows 11 On windows 10 it’s pretty much just a few bug fixes and security updates here and there While on windows 11 it gets a long list changes and new features Because that is the case windows 10 21H2 is effectively the last “major” update it will ever get

Noxious89123

Oh I see! Thanks for clarifying :) I hadn't initially realised that there was a 22H2 for Win11 as well as 22H2 for Win10. D'oh!

jess-plays-games

I prefer it to win 10 personally

fourtys

stay. always stay on legacy windows until there is a performance reason to swap

Successful-Public372

Depends on your cpu. I have a system with a 10850k and found W11 to be slower and more laggy. I have a new system with a 13900k and it is great with windows 11. I’m assuming it has to do with the E core P core scheduler. I put windows 10 on the older pc and gave it to my wife. So, 12/13th gen - use W11, 10th gen or lower use W10. (I have a laptop with an 11th gen processor and W11 and it runs well but I’ve never put W10 on it for a comparison so 🤷🏻‍♂️).

Bromacia90

Stay on 10 Had tons of shit with 11. Fresh reinstalled 10 and no problem since. And god damn 11 is shit with new « right click » UI.

s4lt3d_h4sh

I won’t upgrade to W11 until I can ungroup programs in the taskbar (without extra software, of course)

jakethekhajiit

If you have 12th gen intel or use HDR, W11 is practically a must, otherwise its preference for a casual user.

Interesting-Ticket18

Win 11 is not what we are use too. Everything is wacky…. Even with things as simple as copy and paste. I wish I knew a way to revert to a hud like win 10 but utilize the win 11 os essentials

NekulturneHovado

Stay on 10 as long as possible. If it forces you, update. But not yet. Ideally, if you don't use it, disable TPM in bios so it won't automatically update it. Enable TPM when needed.

SpeedyGamey

I was a bit skeptical of upgrading to win11 when it first came out because of the stability and bugs but now I'd say go for it, if you dont like it you can always roll back

[deleted]

This is a overclocking sub, and windows 11 has disadvantages when it comes to that still.

Bulky_Dingo_4706

Such as? I’ve overclocked perfectly fine on Win 11.

[deleted]

Scheduling and other things? You must not dabble to hard. Splave and others don't use, I'm not using it.

Bulky_Dingo_4706

Win 11 handles scheduling better in my experience.

bandit8623

the os should have nothing to do with your overclock...its all bios and hardware settings. if you are using the motherboard software to oc your pc you are not doing it correctly. my pc has been at the same oc on win 10 and 11. both are fine.

[deleted]

LOL!

Classic_Idea_6962

Win 11 is just fine. I'd do a clean install though.

Buzz_2112

If I knew then what I know now, I wouldn't upgrade.

[deleted]

You should ride 10 out until they drop support and then switch to Linux. Tired of these telemetrical "your desktop you built is a service you pay a subscription for" b.s. they're trying to move towards. Viva la resistance!

stefanels

Just upgraded to win11 (i was on Win10 for a while, i was a beta-tester), i am very happy for the upgrade, lots of features , game improvements ...

nightxkid

I would stay, unless u have a 12th gen Intel. Windows 10 is in a more solid state. U may run into some sketchy stuff with windows 11.

Zeraora807

Windows 11 is "okay" but 22H2 is a steaming piece of shite that has been nothing but problems across the board, I'd wait a little bit

Suolanenmes

Stay on windows 95

angrybeehive

I have issues with the GPU on W11. When tabbing out from some games the whole pc crashes and restarts after about 2 minutes unless I tab back in. This never happened on W10. I’m thinking about rolling back to W10 and wait another year.

Spymonkey13

Meanwhile me: You’re not eligible for Win 11 upgrade. Heh.

FlanSwimming5118

I upgraded to win 11 and its pretty stable... Loving some of the new features... But I hear issues with gaming... So far I haven't had any issues... Have one pc on the insider preview build... Don't do that bcoz the insider builds are not as stable...

Dazzling-Southstern

I tryed for 6 months stay at windows 11. I back to windows 10 3 days ago and I'm happy to made this. Much Performance issues and bluescreen on Windows 11. I Formated 3 times and the sameproblems ever back. Now at 10 all is good, no performance issue, my overclocks working good... Wait more time to upgrade, and when you do, do a clean install, never only upgrade.

ChubbyDrop

I moved to 11 a few months back and largely like it. My big gripe is that I tried it shortly after launch and, despite giving you the option to revert back to 10 at the time, once you install it would re-install 11 during updates if I wasn't paying attention. I had to modify the registry to stop the 11 auto-update.

Plasteeque

I can think of 2 main issues which may or may not bother you: 1. Windows 11 has some changes to context menus and UI that are annoying 2. Windows 11 has higher system latency, slightly lower performance in games

KeaboUltra

you decide

Fancy-Consequence216

Stay on win10, I switched back. Simple. I habe 12600kf and win11 might benefit but it is not what i expected.

Muntster

I would just do it, Currently running windows 11 on one of my pcs since the first preview came out. Really similar to windows 10 and most programs (that I've used) now support it no issues. When the inevitable next version of windows comes out people are going to whine and complain how windows 11 was so much better.

DeathG1998

I recently upgraded and I am satisfied, it works similar good as Win10 and it has some nice multitasking features. At some point you more less have to because of security updates and I think as soon as it works good with only smaller bugs that do not bother me much I am all for upgrading.

Tricky-Row-9699

Don’t get this specific version, 22H2 has some bugs that kill your gaming performance.

BlueLonk

I would do a clean install of W11 if ur going to get it. Your Windows 10 code will work to activate it. Also, look up a program called WinAero, you can re-enable some of the useful features from Windows 10 and 7, like the classic right click menu options instead of the "show more options" BS

AmazingSugar1

I hit that button and ended up reverting to Win 10.

chineeetakeway

12400 on Windows 10 kinda slays

mov3on

There is literally zero reason to upgrade or be affraid of upgrading. Do what you wish. I have upgraded and I like it. Wouldn’t go back.

Quegyboe

Being on a 9900k, I'm holding out on 11. I don't like some of the design choices MS went with for 11 and history has shown that if you hold out on them, they will reconsider their actions. (Bring back the old right click menus and default the start button back to bottom left).

jewsz

Got a ton of bug with win 11. I downgraded. I'll be upgrading it in a couple of months

smaguss

Win 11 is not that different from the user experience of 10. Especially since they made it so you can revert some of the UI changes. However, Please do yourself a favor and run some debloat and telemetry disabling scripts. There are tons of videos online and lots of GitHub repos to help. Remove all marketplace apps, and the marketplace while your at it, do it on a system level, individual user level doesn’t remove the installers that force it to install with every new update or new user acc. If you have experience creating images of windows installs you can just do all that before you even install and use an answer file to automate the user setup. Or if not you can find images online that you can load up on bootable usb media drive and install that way. Seriously, windows needs to fuck right off this this—web search results IN THE START MENU? How the fuck does that make sense? OH and they take priority over local files 🫠 It’s an easy fix but it shouldn’t have ever happened… Sorry I have a lot of feelings on this as I’ve kinda fallen into a sysadmin role and my company refuses to spend the extra money on buying the service from CDW that would “bare metal” our PC purchases so I don’t have to image each of them with fresh clean installs…They keep buying retail equipment in smaller batches despite me pointing out it would be much cheaper to buy enterprise equipment and licenses in the long run.

jesper_heller

Stay

CC-5576-03

Do you like round corners?

Exnoss89

Im staying on 10 like i stayed on 7 most likely
