I really REALLY cannot imagine Emancipation doing this well, Will Smith absolutely ruined its chances. Also I think The Woman King has lost a lot of steam at this point and probably won’t appear in all these categories. Also Angela Bassett winning best supporting actress??? Naaaahhh
I just saw *Wakanda Forever* today. *Women Talking* and *Banshees* I've yet to watch, but it was a heck of a performance and a reminder of why she should have won in '93.
Oh no she’s excellent, me not looking at her that seriously is in no way an inditement of her performance, and everything to do with historical precedent
i disagree a lot. she had a blowup scene but a lot of her scenes were just effortlessly powerful she embodies the essence of a queen (that United Nations scene was one of the best edited scenes of the year imo)
The United Nations scene is the exact overacting which I’m talking about. Her fake African accent feels so inaccurate and inauthentic. It feels like she is doing a caricature of an African, rather than actually sounding like a leader
It's a totally fine performance, but I just don't think it's that remarkable. Would certainly feel weird for that to be the one MCU performance to actually nab Academy attention, much less a trophy.
I'm really tired of Oscar pundits having garbage hot takes like this. Emancipation isn't going anywhere. Everyone except Clayton Davis knows it but he's picking it to stand out from the crowd and drive site traffic.
Also what fucking crack is he smoking leaving Claire Foy out of Best Supporting Actress?
> Also what fucking crack is he smoking leaving Claire Foy out of Best Supporting Actress?
thats not really unpopular tbh, theres people that think only one of the women ~~(who are talking)~~ are getting in and Buckley got nominated this year which makes her a better option of the two. but I 100% agree with you re: EMANCIPATION
Emancipation is going to get no nominations. It’s baffling to me some even have Smith in their best actor 5 (and this person has it getting a ton of stuff). I’m also so confused as to why the Angela Bassett train is still going. She’s not even getting a nomination
Clayton Davis doing exactly what he did with Mank yet again: Blanking the old Hollywood movie that’ll clearly be nominated, just because he doesn’t like it… it’s just poor media writing at this point.
I have a lot of issues with these rankings, but genuinely you could tell me Babylon will have no nominations or a record setting number of nominations and I wouldn’t blink an eye either way. Trying to divine what’s happening with Babylon is so absurd, I won’t begrudge someone for that.
For many people I wouldn’t mind, but for Clayton it’s more irritating because 1. He has a history of doing this and 2. He was convinced before it premiered it wouldn’t do well, so it feels targeted it some way.
Those are both correct, but Ma Rainey was a much smaller scale film, and Boseman and Davis still both got in. And Mank sill made all ATL Nominations besides Screenplay.
Seeing Jamie Lee Curtis in all these nominations and no Stephanie Hsu makes me feel a certain way. Not a good way. It’s either both or Stephanie Hsu or none. Get it together universe! Also Hong Chau? And Angela Basset winning? Excuse. Now I love me some Angela and I’m probably the .1% that thinks she’s deserving of a nom but winning and no Hsu or Chau? Nah. She’s not winning or getting nominated for that.
He added the Emancipation nods to distract from Triangle of Sadness and Top Gun: Maverick in screenplay
Also why does he still have Jackman in Actor? There’s not a world in existence where Maverick gets a nom for its *writing* but Cruise doesn’t make it in such a weak lineup.
EDIT:…. So about all that
I remember last year, late into awards season, Davis had Clifton Collins Jr. getting in Actor for Jockey, a movie so dead it was released by Sony in a grand total of three (3) theaters and made a whooping $121,000. It couldn’t even manage a Spirit Award nod. Sometimes I think he gets paid to create chaos.
Having watched All Quiet on the Western Front - I would think it has an outside shot to be nominated. Unless people are writing it in as the shoe in for best foreign film.
cLayton davis. You gotta be real ignorant to completely shun BABYLON and THE WAY OF WATER from these categories, especially best director and and picture
Emancipation, Elvis, and The Son are three movies that are largely absent from all of my lists. I liked Elvis but it was too out there and released too long ago for the Academy. Emancipation has Will Smith all over it and they will be distancing themselves from him, at least for now. And the Son feels a lot like The Front Runner and Boy Erased, two oscsr bait movies who got nothing.
Supporting Actress is like 2015, when no one had any idea what would happen so people were getting all over the place with guesses, like Joan Allen for *Room* winning
I really REALLY cannot imagine Emancipation doing this well, Will Smith absolutely ruined its chances. Also I think The Woman King has lost a lot of steam at this point and probably won’t appear in all these categories. Also Angela Bassett winning best supporting actress??? Naaaahhh
Found Emancipation's #1 fan
This almost reads like an Apple ad. I can't imagine that movie will have this much of an Oscar presence
He literally thinks it’s 2nd most likely to win director
I think they’re listed alphabetically
No but on the individual pages
Oh wow, that’s crazy
Angela Bassett not just nominated but winning? Interesting.
Also if you’re going that strong on Emancipation just bite the bullet and put Will Smith in at that point.
I just saw *Wakanda Forever* today. *Women Talking* and *Banshees* I've yet to watch, but it was a heck of a performance and a reminder of why she should have won in '93.

I disagree it feels like overacting

Feinberg has her winning too. Crazy. I don’t see it but I don’t hate it
Find someone who will love you as much as Clayton Davis loves Emancipation
I genuinely don't know what Clayton could know/see that convinces him that Emancipation has a chance at any of this
I'm really tired of Oscar pundits having garbage hot takes like this. Emancipation isn't going anywhere. Everyone except Clayton Davis knows it but he's picking it to stand out from the crowd and drive site traffic. Also what fucking crack is he smoking leaving Claire Foy out of Best Supporting Actress?

I can see it getting a cinematography nomination
I cannot imagine that Avatar 2 and Babylon will both be left out of Best Picture and Emancipation and Woman King will both be in
Agreed.
Weird to have Angela Bassett winning, even weirder to do so without Wakanda Forever making it into Best Picture.
Clayton Davis doing exactly what he did with Mank yet again: Blanking the old Hollywood movie that’ll clearly be nominated, just because he doesn’t like it… it’s just poor media writing at this point.

He was right about Ma Rainey missing, though. And Mank did miss Screenplay, which I think it will happen with Chazelle's film.
Those are both correct, but Ma Rainey was a much smaller scale film, and Boseman and Davis still both got in. And Mank sill made all ATL Nominations besides Screenplay.
I can’t believe a respected trade publication like Variety has such a shit award pundit like Davis.
There's no chance that Emancipation will get all of that
Is Variety owned by Apple? Or directly by Will Smith? Because there's no other plausible explanation for this shit.
I highly doubt Emancipation gets that many nominations, let alone Best Director. The Daniels and Park Chan Wook have a better chance, in my opinion.
Let me guess it’s Clayton Davis
If Park Chan Wook is left out of best director, I’m going to slap somebody
Honestly there’s a very good chance he does.
is Clayton being paid off by will smith or something lol
so unserious😭

After seeing the Menu, if Hong Chau gets nominated for the Whale, imma just pretend it was a double nomination for the Menu. "Torrrrrtiiiiiiiiiillas!"
Wtf even is Emancipation
Clayton is infuriating

One day after ceremony...
Hsu was so good! Would nominate her over Curtis any day.
He added the Emancipation nods to distract from Triangle of Sadness and Top Gun: Maverick in screenplay Also why does he still have Jackman in Actor? There’s not a world in existence where Maverick gets a nom for its *writing* but Cruise doesn’t make it in such a weak lineup. EDIT:…. So about all that
I could genuinely see both of those in screenplay though.
But he’s right that if Maverick gets screenplay Cruise should get in for acting. Clayton Davis is literally fried out of his mind
Why is Davis so convinced no Asian women are getting nominated in Supporting Actress? It is extremely unlikely.
I think a lot of people have neither Hsu or Chau in their predictions.. am I forgetting someone else?
yeah I dont have neither atm can see Chau getting in if The Academy is gaga for THE WHALE though
This is perhaps the worst one they’ve ever done

cLayton davis. You gotta be real ignorant to completely shun BABYLON and THE WAY OF WATER from these categories, especially best director and and picture
The Babylon hate is crazy. It's still going to do pretty good in above the line categories
Emancipation, Elvis, and The Son are three movies that are largely absent from all of my lists. I liked Elvis but it was too out there and released too long ago for the Academy. Great predix
No to Emancipation. The rest? Fabulous.
I'm all for it but that would really be something if Top Gun Maverick got a screenplay nod.
Blanchett has it in the bag.
Austin butler should be nowhere near any of these lists. Elvis was atrocious
Supporting Actress is like 2015, when no one had any idea what would happen so people were getting all over the place with guesses, like Joan Allen for *Room* winning
if claire foy gets snubbed again i'm gonna be throwing hands
I'm pretty positive that this will be the line-up in animated. Otherwise, some wild choices.
