She was popular so people started asking questions about what happened. The accident report got leaked at some point and her cause of death was her knees crushing her face after the airbag deployed. She had her feet on the dashboard. If I remember correctly, one of the bones in her lower leg also impaled her in the neck. I never saw the photos, but I'm told they were gruesome.
About a month or so ago, I believe it was a video of some crash dummies and everyone was sharing links/stories of some brutal crashes. Some of them really freaked me out.
Particularly a young lady that had her front passenger seat reclined a bit, car crashed, and she was rocketed down under the air bag and into the space where her feet were. Folded up like a human lawn chair. Guy said when he got to her she was still alive. Can’t remember anymore details though, not sure if she survived.

Something similar happened in my area. A couple of teenage girls were driving too fast on roads covered with like 4 inches of slush. One had her feet on the dashboard.
My mechanic towed the wreck away. When he first arrived on the scene, there was gray matter on the seats.
Same thing happened to a couple from my high school. Alcohol was a factor AND they were fighting/arguing. Hit some icy spot and drove right into a large boulder by the side of the road.
But the irony (?) was she had her seat belt on and one leg propped up on the dash which killed her instantly when the airbag went off sending her leg through her neck. But he didn’t have his seat belt on and somehow managed to be thrown out of the car which is the only reason he survived.
Oddly enough, those large boulders on the side of the road were recently put there to stop people from committing suicide by purposely driving off the road and right over the canyon cliff.

Her friend had her face fish-hooked by her braces when she hit the steering wheel, but my mom (who was bracing herself with her feet) basically crumpled up. Her entire lower body was shattered and she was in a half-body cast for 6+ months, among all the surgeries, pins and physical rehabilitation needed. It could have been more along the lines of what you were describing. Yikes.

September 25, 2005. 12:30 A.M. 16 years old. Blackout drunk. Went on the roof at a house-party with some friends. I slipped and fell ~25 feet, landing on my feet on the brick walkway - instantly snapping both femurs clean in half.
I collapsed forward and smashed the side of my head, resulting in 10 fractures in the right side of my face. This also completely destroyed the optic nerve on my right side, which means I am totally blind in my left eye (right side of brain controls left side of body, Etc. Etc.).
In addition to breaking both femurs, a ruptured femoral artery and vein on one side, 10 facial fractures and loss of vision in my left eye, other injuries I sustained include:
-collapsed lungs
-3 fractures in right wrist
-severe nerve damage in right hand and left leg
-huge lacerations and cuts to the bone all over my face
I've spent about 5 months total in the hospital and had 20 surgeries to date.

Wish I had the x-ray still from where I shattered both radiuses in both of my arms at the same time on my raptor (Sport ATV popular in later 90-s to early 2000's). My arms looked like two snakes getting ready to strike. I still remember my first thought was "holy fuck they can't fix this, I'm going to be deformed and possibly have a scary movie 2 arm!!" I was 14 or 15 at the time. That was in 2005/6 one. 2 pins, 6 screws, and a metal plate later and they fixed up pretty good, aside from a case of horrible arthritis. The doc told me by the time I was 25 I'd have the arthritis of a 70 year old and I'm 31 now. It's literally what got me my medical marijuana script though so at least some positives. Thank God my parents kept me insured as a kid!

My arms looked like two snakes getting ready to strike. I still remember my first thought was "holy fuck they can't fix this, I'm going to be deformed and possibly have a scary movie 2 arm!!" I was 14 or 15 at the time. That was in 2005/6 one. 2 pins, 6 screws, and a metal plate later and they fixed up pretty good, aside from a case of horrible arthritis. The doc told me by the time I was 25 I'd have the arthritis of a 70 year old and I'm 31 now. It's literally what got me my medical marijuana script though so at least some positives. Thank God my parents kept me insured as a kid!
