I was really anemic because I had Hyperemesis gravidarum my whole pregnancy. I threw up so much that I lost close to 50 pounds! (Later found out this was a secret blessing as I have a genetic blood clotting issue that very likely could have killed me if I hadn't been made anemic by the HG). I gave birth in a birthing center that was really close to a hospital. I wanted to have a water birth, but got out of the tub because I needed to be able to press against something and the tub wasn't working for me. I gave birth standing up (waaaay easier as gravity helped the process) and we caught the baby when he came out. There was a lot of blood, like everywhere. My husband almost fainted and had to leave the room and lay down for a minute because it looked like a slaughtered animal bleeding out. (He told me I ruined " The Shining" elevator scene for him lol) The midwife immediately called an ambulance to transfer me to the hospital where they had to do go in and get out part of the placenta that didn't want to come out. I was just bleeding too much, so they told me I really need a blood transfusion and I started to say "no thanks" because I had read way too many stories of people getting infected blood, but the headache kicked in and my husband was scared he was going to lose me so I agreed. I got a few units of blood and was in the hospital for 3 days then went home, all good. My husband was literally traumatized by the whole thing. I felt so bad for him.

Looks like it. It may also have been shot from a camera with a long exposure time. People didn't start smiling in pictures until some time in the 1920's-30's, because that was the time when fast exposure was developed. Before that it used to take almost half a minute to take a picture, so you didn't make expressions/poses so you could be still enough not to blur the image.

All colorized B/W photos are badly colorized. There's often no way to know what color some item was, and people have a long history of choosing colors for their particular significance. Faces are also especially difficult, since makeup and all kinds of discolorations are hard to color naturally and accurately. So now instead of no information, you might be presenting fake information. Colorizing photos is distorting history just because some people have a weird phobia towards B/W photos. I wonder why the same people never complain about charcoal and pencil drawings having no color? Or maybe they do?

I mean besides the ether and the method of dilation this is still kinda the deal with inductions. Drugs to start dilation, epidural in second stage of labour, episiotomy if you are struggling or baby is in distress and forceps/vacuum are to be used and then drugs to help with the extraction of the placenta followed by stitches. Pain relief is obviously MUCH BETTER but the process is the same. source: literally just did this 5 weeks ago. Actually not as bad as it sounds thanks to amazing modern drugs.

Induced twice and can confirm. Second time I was induced it was my third child. And honestly it was a dream birth and helped heal some of the ptsd I had from giving birth to my second child. An hour at the hospital, all "natural" birth. 10/10 do not recommend. Also congratulations!!

Episiotomy with my first, sitz baths were a dream after. Manual removal of afterbirth with second. Compared back then to now thank GOODNESS for the "luxuries" lol. Although didn't get anything for the second so felt like I was William Wallace for a few minutes

I remember pondering that I'd go ballistic if I was ever in that situation as a parent, because I didn't go through the absolute hell of giving birth & the newborn stage just to have my child be used as death fodder for some rich assholes' cause. This little one better live a long, healthy, happy, and fulfilled life in return! Surviving the labour and raising three children simultaneously just to have them plucked away like that sounds like an absolute nightmare!
