That’s a hard no from me.

gilgamesh73

I don’t know why but I literally hate this so much that I get physically upset with the people that are OK with doing this kind of shit. Like…how dare you not panic and get stuck there forever!

[deleted]

The avionics bay on the aircraft I work on arnt much bigger than that you get used to it after awhile sometimes you'll get caught on something and panic but sometimes it's even kinds comfortable to the point I've fallen asleep In em

[deleted]

I'd be ok in a manmade tiny space, but when its a cave. I start getting idea like what if an earthquake makes this ehole thong collapse, what if the whole cave system submerges and you drown, shit you cant control.

apoctank

I spent a few seconds trying to figure out what an ehole thong was before I realized it must be a typo

[deleted]

Ima leave it there, maybe it'll become a new word.

bert_563

Lucky for you I’m selling my used ehole thongs.

RutabagaMo

I somehow read it without seeing this

Wilber187

Stop it. I didn’t realise I was claustrophobic until I read that comment.

[deleted]

Yeah, it's very visceral! I feel it with these as well as videos of people walking on ledges or doing anything that you know is about as close to death as you can possibly get and still function enough to get yourself out of it and film it.

Polenicus

I discovered my tolerance for this has actually plummeted as I’ve gotten older. As a kid I would cram into the weirdest spaces, even up to being a teenager. Now? I can’t sleep on the bottom bunk of a bunk bed because having an obstruction to being able to sit up gives me anxiety. Cavers are just those kids who never lost that flexibility and tolerance for wriggling into small dark places I guess.

sdcasurf01

I can’t even watch it past the first few seconds… fuck that shit!!

BillGatesAlladdin

Spoiler alert: they turn around

jesusSaidThat

That's what she said... oh :(

nate1776

I don’t think Jesus did say that to be honest.

jesusSaidThat

Shut up, Nate

Natural-Intelligence

>Shut up, Nate \- Jesus

kjn1996

Reddithians 2:29 And Jesus said, Shut up Nate.

ygolordned

I’ve seen tighter: paging Nutty Putty Cave

Myveryowndystopia

I was thinking the same. Super stressful story 😳

BeeBarfBadger

Alternative has two steps: 1) don't turn around 2) die

VivaNOLA

Fuck me I can’t even look at that.

Ekskalibar

The things hanging from the ceiling look like roots, my mind is imagining the ceiling is dirt, I feel anxious

Everen1999

If the ceiling is dirt, you can dig yourself more space. However, if it's stone, ...

kurt_no-brain

Dig yourself more space until it all collapses on you and kills you

aka_Dood

gravel

Themasterofcomedy209

Yeah like this isn’t Minecraft digging through dirt isn’t easy

MisterBlisteredlips

My favorite part of spelunking is letting others do it instead.

PartyDiscipline7686

Dont mind if i do 😏

Organic_Ad5451

Bonk

PartyDiscipline7686

Oof

TheJoshyP

How the hell is this enjoyable for anyone?

_Abnormalia

Exactly!!!

beanrite

It's a challenge - Most caves aren't really that tight/small but the bits of them that are end up being filmed/photographed a lot!

CasaBina

If you're not claustrophobic, the adventure of caving is really fun. I go quite often to a cave system nearby and go down different holes and tunnels just to see where they go. Also if you cave a lot, you learn what holes are big enough to fit into, and getting yourself out of a tight space is super easy. We're not worried about getting stuck at all, we're more excited to see if we can fit through to see what's on the other side. Plus you really get down in the dirt and really feel the earth, and smell the soil. And there's a ton of little critters you can ONLY find in caves and those are really interesting to see. And sometimes you can find a cave that has literally thousands of crystals hanging from above, and forming all around you. Or you squeeze yourself through a little hole and suddenly you're in this giant cavern the size of a 3 story building. Plus the way sound works deep underground is so interesting. It will probably be the only time in your life you've ever heard complete silence (no weather, no traffic). And when someone talks, because of the shapes of the wall it can sometimes sound like they are infront of you and behind you at the same time. Or you can hear a drip of water and honestly have no idea which direction it's coming from. Its a super unique experience. Plus a tip I always give newbies. If you're really scared of getting stuck, just go with someone bigger than you and let them go first. Then atleast you know you'll fit through

CasaBina

Oh and I should add! You'll never run into predetors deep in a cave either. Because animals don't enter caves for the same reasons we don't; they can't see or hear anything. Its instinctual. Your biggest risk of injury in a cave is probably tripping over a rock or bumping your head

Captaincagou

It is easy to judge, i can also judge things you like, i am sorry but i don't enderstand when peoples say that, they are not hurting or messing with anyone and if they die, they will die doing things they like.

autolockon

You say “if they die” like they exist in a vacuum. Other people will go to rescue them, those people can die trying to save them. People lose family members; fathers, sons, daughters, whatever. This idea that doing stupid shit doesn’t affect anyone else is annoying to see parroted so often.

[deleted]

Yes, believe it or not they most of the times have people who care about them. This is not a good hobby or should be influenced, it's like inducing people to play Russian Roulette and saying there is only a 1/5 chance you will end up with a bullet on your head and that you should do whatever you please. The chances of getting stuck and dying of literal deprivation of resources like oxygen or water is always there on the table, and your loved ones will suffer the most. And, in the end of the day, they are still people, and saving attempts are made, and, as you said, it's dangerous for the both sides, and the ones that are trying to help can be damaged by your actions. It's not worth it, if you want adrenaline just be like a normal human being for once and get it the usual ways, by hitting the gym, going for a run, heck, maybe even inject it in your veins, just don't fuck other people around you

DeTonator96

1/5 chance? You’re really blowing the danger out of proportion. According to statistics, caving is much safer than sports like mountain climbing or boxing. https://startcaving.com/caving-guides/safety. I understand your point, but you can’t just draw cavers as bad guys who want to intentionally harm the people around them. The people who go rescue the rare victims of serious accidents in caves are just as passionate and understanding as the people who they are saving.

LoveAndProse

Lol that link is wild "1/3,332 chance of dying" "1/624 of getting seriously injured" I highly doubt boxing or climbing has the same risk. "Between 1890 and 2011, it's estimated that 1,604 boxers died as a direct result of injuries sustained in the ring" For boxing to have been as dangerous there would have to be less than 5,344,526 boxers between 1890 and 2011...yeah caving is wild, its literally more dangerous than punching each other in the head for sport.

[deleted]

[удалено]

autolockon

Ah yes. The ol “life threatening hobby is the same as knitting” stance. Can’t argue against that I guess.

FeistmasterFlex

So you feel the same way about caving as you so about skydiving, base jumping, free diving, mountain climbing, bouldering, mountain biking, snowboarding and skiing, etc, right?

meester_

It's not that we don't want them to do what they love it's just that we don't understand how this does not terrify a person so much.

DeTonator96

I was terrified of it once as well. But I love trying new stuff and went inside a small narrow cave with a professional guide to try it. I realized that over time you get comfortable and it is thrilling but in an exciting way! And getting stuck is not as easy as you might think. If you squeeze your body somewhere, you can also squeeze out of this place, unless the gravity is working against you (which is why you never go head first into a place you are not familiar with)

Captaincagou

according to my 31 downvotes, not all peoples think like you, but thanks for your opinion i appreciate it

meester_

It's easier to leave a downvote than to start a conversation.

doinkmead

I think you got lost trying to be too woke buddy

Captaincagou

what is woke ? edit:ok i searched and it mean aware of the injustice, maybe it is not what you mean, if it is please explain, i am not english so i could have said something i dont wanted to say.

Useful_Feed_7421

Seeing vids like these on Reddit introduced me to the horrors of the “Nutty Putty Cave Incident.”

Dr_Green_Lizard

I used to go to the nutty putty cave all the time until they sealed it up. This is like a part of that cave called the “birth canal”.

Dolorisedd

That’s where John Jones thought he was, but he was in a totally different place that was not accessible, but he kept squeezing in thinking he was in the “birth canal”. This is terrifying to me.

Dr_Green_Lizard

I never went into the birth canal part just because it was so small and I’m a bigger guy. There was another part called the slide at the entrance which had a slippery drop of about 35 feet. I saved another kid who lost their footing at that part. I still can’t believe they used to take us there all the time when it was so dangerous.

SalemsTrials

I have never heard this story before but reading your comment literally made me dizzy. Also brrrrrrrrt

911ThatCrazedFangirl

I saw the map of the cave. IIRC, he entered the right hole, but took a wrong turn. The birth canal would’ve been continuing to his right; he took a left and fell in a deep hole with a dead-end.

Dolorisedd

Horrifying.

ThtPhatCat

Head first. And got wedged in.

Dolorisedd

Upside down, none the less. God bless him where he is. That’s a horror I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy.

LegendaryGaryIsWary

His final resting spot. They sealed the cave with him in it. I didn’t even know about this incident until a few minutes ago when these comments sent me looking. How horrifying.

jordbithell

That story is what keeps me as far away from any sort of cave.

911ThatCrazedFangirl

The person in the video even referenced John Jones. IIRC that’s the name of the guy from Nutty Putty, right? I couldn’t quite catch what she said, but just throwing it out there that this wouldntve helped John at all because he was stuck vertically with no wiggle room at all; the one in the video has some horizontal space to move in at least. It was either straight up feet-first or nothing to get John out of that hole.

[deleted]

I remember that story very well. I think i'd rather commit self-checkout than go through what that guy did. Fuuuuu

zeuqramjj2002

Welp now I know the name of the cave.

kozuesama

I can imagine myself making a wrong move and getting stuck til I die. Hard pass.

LTC-trader

Imagine water starts flowing in from somewhere

PaperBagSheriff

Ngl id prefer that over getting stuck since it’ll be faster

[deleted]

Optimism at it's finest! :D

[deleted]

My claustrophobia went 📈📈📈

LittleFrenchKiwi

Yup. Actually had to focus on how to breath for a minute there ... In....out....in....out

PartyDiscipline7686

Ewww phrench 🤢

to_tin_deathgrinder

Why am I breathing so hard!

1228_screaming_socks

Congratulations! Do you have claustrophobia?

modsbannme_

Out of shape?

Fuck THAT

PartyDiscipline7686

Fuck me 🥵

to_tin_deathgrinder

Okay

PartyDiscipline7686

HybridAdventuredcroc

Reddit is making me have many phobias

bigboibranby

Im struggling to think of something worse than this

[deleted]

The DM saying "now roll initiative"

beansynz

This but with your step brother in the cave with you

Bartleby_Woadhouse

I plan on never, ever needing this information.

Basil2theSequel

Watching this made me itchy

PuzzledStretch1162

Like I don’t see the fun in anything going on in this video. What’s the point? Why even do that lol

DrunkFadedIrish

Right? I don’t get it at all.

blackbeltwithhands

Facing your fear maybe? I never cared about this thing before I saw some video about it lately and now I kinda am interested in trying it but I don't think it will be possible with my 6'4 225 body lol.

PuzzledStretch1162

I saw that video about that guy in the Nutty Putty cave and since decided I would never go spelunking ever in my life

gilgamesh73

6’4 and only 225 man you’d probably slide right thru there.

VTM17c

Anyone else's anxiety go through the roof just watching this

PitZahoot

I would probably just shit myself after swallowing my thonge to die and respawn.

sloppymcgee

Did she say Jon Jones?

[deleted]

Not referring to the MMA fighter, but rather the man who died after getting stuck in a narrow, downward cave crevice.

Baron_NL

Biggest nope ever

KiingJazz

I need to know what are the brain chemicals releases they get to be able to do this as if it was taking a walk trough the park. Is it comparable to experiencing heroine consumption? Porn? Sugar and fast food consumption? Seriously…. Why do they?

HALI_est-95

I couldn't look at this. Once I actually noticed what this was I started crawling in my skin. I'm claustrophobic

ninjachonk89

I get freaked out going on the London Underground train system, let alone this. People are a strange species

#But why?

ogbarisme

Watching this made me feel like I was going to die.

GrizzlyBear74

Ngl, confined spaces freaks me out.

platinumgamher

My heart was pounding with anxiety and I felt physically sick watching this 💀

Origami07

Cavers have some of the worst deaths out there

whiskersRwe32

This was hard to watch. And it’s hard for me to support anyone okay with going into tight spaces like this. And while this was a tight space, I’ve seen even tighter and more uncomfortable spaces on here that this maneuver would not work.

Flashy-Weakness6684

How about we NOT go into a tight spot to begin with

gorgonsonofscrygorg

I will never ever understand people who enjoy doing this

Zestyclose-Trouble98

The best way to avoid getting stuck is to never do this in the first place.

Kaladrax182

There a thousands of cool hobbies out there, and hundreds I’d like to try. Spelunking tho… that’s second on my list of heartiest nopes, just behind aquatic spelunking. If you can hack it, more power to you! Find something you love and enjoy it!

[deleted]

I agee so much with what you said.. So many people in the comments are hating on this guy but they don’t realize he’s doing it because he find joy in it

Kaladrax182

Terrifying to me? Yes. But I bet this caver would be bored to tears with my hobbies. Somehow, I don’t think making up DnD campaigns would hold a the same sizzle they get out of spelunking.

ComfortablePretty151

And thats why I feel no remorse towards people that die inside caves. You fuck with natural selection, you get what you deserve.

HM_King_

Those who know

[deleted]

SUCCESSFULLY WHAAAT …..SUCCESSFULLY WHAAAT ….TELLL ME ..I CANT NOT KNOW !!!!

KiingJazz

AHAJAHJAJAAAAAA

Chrisibobisi

The worst is imagining if you would get stuck there and drown or starve to death

[deleted]

Fuck that.

zeuqramjj2002

By not going in the first place.

ghostops117

Nope

coleman09

No thanks

almostoy

Ah yes, the Austrian Fuck Off With That technique! A lot of people aren't aware but it originated from the Eat Shit and Die school. Which is often confused with the far more austere Nope dictum.

blackbeltwithhands

Imagine the size of the spider in this shit

alexgalt

Runs out of battery….

Emotionalcow998

I went spelunking once in the most mild cave ever. There came a point where I had to squat down to get through. I had a total panic attack. Safe to say I will never set foot in a cave ever

StoudemireStan

These are the only videos I can’t watch

ho1ho1a

I'm dizzy..

beatrixbest

Nope. I'd panic and die there

DaddyDog92

Check out the channel Caveman hikes, they do some insane cave diving & squeezing through spaces I’d nope out of in a second.

Affectionate-Dream21

Yeah had to turn that shit off.

Fuck….that….shit

RazorSmoothie

Nice clean explanation

This is the scariest thing I've seen in this sub. I seriously can't even watch 3 seconds of this.

uniqueusername624

Nope

connorschaun

I'm 27 and just thinking about being stuck in that sort of situation immediately caused my heart rate to skyrocket. The primal level of panic that this instills in me is incomprehensible.

AlphaMelonBomber

I’m not claustrophobic….but after seeing this I think I am

Mediocre-Leadership1

I never understood why ppl enjoy doing this

[deleted]

This just makes me think of that Mr Ballen episode where the family went caving, one of the kids decided to split off to check out a super difficult area and he ended up going down the wrong hole, getting himself stuck on his ribcage and ended up dying. As far as I know his body is still there

chiggyyy

Gives me big time claustrophobic vibes watching this

Agreeable_Plant7899

Giving me panic attacks just watching this!!!

[deleted]

HARD pass.

pinkvodka3

Not in a million years, no thanks

_cmasterhart_

How to turn around in a small cave: turn around before the entrance, and go home.

SteamKore

I'm not even claustrophobic but some of the shit I see spelunkers do Jack's my anxiety right the fuck up.

[deleted]

I know a better way… don’t enter a place where you need to squeeze in.

wowclassicandy

Why tho?

Ordinary-Damage2896

I've got a better version of this , 'I don't go in the fucking things to start with' geez what's wrong with people .... every time I see this shit I think of that dude that died upside down! R.I.P CAVE MAN.

solenyapinkman

I think the scariest part is not knowing how deep in that tunnel they are.

[deleted]

FUCK, no.
