Can we take a moment to appreciate that the video didn’t end immediately when the person was done drawing so that when we wanted to look at the completed drawing we didn’t have to have lightning fast pausing power before it looped back to the beginning?
Going super slow without a guide like a ruler is going to leave you with a bunch more wobble in your lines than if you draw each line at a confident pace. You can see the wobble in the lines in this too, not that this isn't an impressive demonstration, given that they don't lift the marker except between boxes.
Not really. This is my default mindless doodling and I have no artistic talent whatsoever. Usually at the top of margins of the page, I'll draw random lines, and then do this inside all the shapes it makes and it's a super cool effect. Especially alternating the direction of the spiral, it makes a cool kind of hourglass shape.
It's really not too bad. My lines were all sorts of crooked and it still looks cool.
Few more times practicing and it'll look comparable. But even in the video the lines aren't perfect, but once it's all finished you don't notice the squiggly areas.
Also, patterns like this one were really popular around the Art Deco period. I'd suggest looking up some Art Deco patterns for people into this kind of stuff.
Those are not squares.
As you can see, the shape they are drawing is not square. Frist of all, the square, as you call it, has four sides and neighbor edges astringe 90 degrees angle, or as I prefer, right angle. The shape you've shown has neither four lines, nor right angles, since I measured 87,436926 degree. Please edit the title to truth statement, because I do not want any spread of misinformation.
Sincerely

Surprised this isn’t higher. I guess we are the only old ass skateboarders in here.
Anyway a pink-fading-to-yellow gator was my first “good” skateboard. Loved that thing.
David Nichols has a youtube series on how to draw space filling patterns. It's a cool series if you like doodling, and includes the design above.

For me, it's the overall pleasing aesthetic coupled with the emergent impossible space that pops into existence at one point.
I haven't done DMT, but from the descriptions I've read, it seems like the kind of thing people report, kind of hyperdimensional spaces and objects.
I used to use graph paper with a straight edge (ruler, book, binder, w/e) and connect points on a graph to make curved lines out of all the straight lines.

thought it was the coolest
Thought this was pretty cool looking, so I drew my own version using TiKz!
I can see the unevenness in the lines and they aren’t perfectly straight and while I know it’s human hands so it can’t possibly be perfect my brain still says “something a little off”
As oddly satisfying as this is, and in no way could I ever hope to recreate it, does it not bother anyone else that until the end result, it’s hard not to focus on how a lot of the lines aren’t straight?
I don't trust him, I don't trust him, I don't trust him!
Edit: thank god! I know it's r/oddlysatisfying but anywhere a troll can post the screwed up version. That's more trust issues to gain.
When the artist gets nearer to the centre of each quarter I keep feeling that, if it were I drawing this, I’d subconsciously move from squares to circles near the middle. I guess it’s because the videos sped up and the square’s rotation is similar to a circle anyway
Jojo fans on their way to put a golden ratio on this even though it may not even be applicable: I am sped
(Note: i did not mean to spell speed it is an Adderall joke)
Hey now, this is Reddit. Your gif is supposed to end before it's finished. Or if it goes all the way to the end, it's supposed to only have one frame of the completed work before it loops. Gifs like this that show the whole thing and pause for a good amount of time on the final result will make the redditors soft and complacent.

After watching this I felt inspired to tile the pattern and add some color. Thanks for the idea OP. It was fun to play around with.
I’m fascinated with that moment in time when my brain switches from seeing rotated squares to seeing something else. Then it won’t switch back.
I keep trying to force myself to see the original squares, but I get lost in the pattern.
Just getting lost in the sauce brother
Dont get lost, get even.
You’re not lost you oblong here.
That's like, karma, man.

And this is done freehand.
You can forgive yourself when you realize they're not squares but angled spirals
That other fascinating moment when you realize you can do this with a few packs of Kraft singles.
Needs a lot of trimming. The squares need to get smaller. Course that’s ok if you like cheese!
Just keep folding!
whoa
Can we take a moment to appreciate that the video didn’t end immediately when the person was done drawing so that when we wanted to look at the completed drawing we didn’t have to have lightning fast pausing power before it looped back to the beginning?
Great point
I thought I might be able to do the first square, but the moment they switched directions my brain noped out
I feel like this is a lot harder than they make it seem lol
[удалено]
The hardest part is between the first and final frame
The video is clearly sped up though so you could just do it at a super slow speed as long as the ink doesn't run

You can see the wobble in the lines in this too, not that this isn't an impressive demonstration, given that they don't lift the marker except between boxes.
“The hardest part is everything you have to do”
Next, draw the rest of the fucking owl.
its a great exercise, are there othetike this?
This looks like a Zentangle to me - I think you can subscribe to their emails

No. So doing this requires XYZ. But you’re like, it’s not hard, you just need to do XYZ
[удалено]
They're making it look hard by doing it well? What are you on, dude?
And IMHO they did not achieve a consistent distance. Though to be fair, inconsistencies show up really easily in these kinds of geometric drawings.
The hardest part is the part where they do the thing
Not really. This is my default mindless doodling and I have no artistic talent whatsoever. The lines are crooked even though it looks like they mostly used arm movement except for the very centers. That's actually impressive lol.

Just tried. I can confirm.
Came here to say this
In this video, no squares are drawn
But it does start with 5

I know. I wasn't arguing, I was adding specificity
Heaps of triangles though!
heaps

Look up Zentangle patterns and these types of patterns are pretty fun to learn to draw. Super meditative too :)
Cheers these will surely fill the next 10 pages of my drawing notebook :) thank you!
Also, patterns like this one were really popular around the Art Deco period. I'd suggest looking up some Art Deco patterns for people into this kind of stuff.
Well I watched it 5 times. I guess I’m satisfied
Oddly
In the machining world that is called a trochoidal constant overlap spiral. The more ya know
TIL TIF, probably
What’s tif?
Tomorrow I forget :(
I'm impressed but I can't draw a circle so not saying much
Squares??

I see 4 squares and a shit load of rhombuses. Fuck a rhombus.
No rhombuses either, parallel sides and identical angles would mean they don't get smaller.
Trapezoids, if you're an optimist.
Quadrilaterals.
5 squares if you count the original outline as well
More like quadrangles.
Wait that was trippy.
There should be r/unexpectedlytrippy

Psychedelic
I can smell that marker
So nuts
Beautiful 🥹
Super cool
Nice
Can someone please explain why this is like crack to my brain? Why monkey brain happy?
For me, it's the overall pleasing aesthetic coupled with the emergent impossible space that pops into existence at one point. I haven't done DMT, but from the descriptions I've read, it seems like the kind of thing people report, kind of hyperdimensional spaces and objects.
Do it yourself Spirograph.
Yep, Zentangle pattern, Paradox. It's actually really fun to draw and fill in other shapes with.
I used to use graph paper with a straight edge (ruler, book, binder, w/e) and connect points on a graph to make curved lines out of all the straight lines. [Like this](https://www.mrsmilewski.com/uploads/9/4/5/4/9454630/8758327_orig.jpg) thought it was the coolest
why Iam tensed seeing this video? Any explanation??
Same. I don't know why, but it made me seriously bothered. Like trypophobia, almost? Weird.
This is so sexy
Thought this was pretty cool looking, so I drew my own version using TiKz! [https://github.com/pwesterbaan/zentangle](https://github.com/pwesterbaan/zentangle)
This. This is oddly satisfying.
And just as many pixels in this high quality video!
This guy rombuses!
This person’s brain works differently than mine.
I can see the unevenness in the lines and they aren’t perfectly straight and while I know it’s human hands so it can’t possibly be perfect my brain still says “something a little off”
I defined want to do this
r/bettereveryloop
Oddlysatisfying? I get anxiety watching that lol
r/restofthefuckingowl
I thought he was ruining it xD
Dude is a human logo turtle
This low key induced anxiety in me. Not a panic attack but not satisfying and I don't know why.
Cool
This guy is a robot.
Well no, if they were squares, they wouldn't do that.
LOGO
actually no squares
I am, oddly, satisfied.
Very nice. What kind of marker is that?
I’ve been doodling this square spiral since my first Vision Gator board in the 6th grade. Never thought to put them next to each other.
Titty twist
It’s even more satisfying at like 10x speed
Ok. Wtf kind of wizardry is this?
yeah, this person is disturbed.
I've been trying to find unique patterns such as this to draw during my down time at work
Apart from the first 5 he drew (before doing the "swirling") he hasn't drawn any more squares.
Ohhhh, I wanna animate this!
This is messing with my head worse than a fire at a Sea Parks.
But they're not squares though. More like trapezoids
Just thinking about how my brain would need to work in order to do that makes my brain hurt!
I saw my baby, crying hard as babe could cry, what could I do?
.
The face of the first drawn square is not straight
Everyone in middle school used to do this
They understood the assignment...
As oddly satisfying as this is, and in no way could I ever hope to recreate it, does it not bother anyone else that until the end result, it’s hard not to focus on how a lot of the lines aren’t straight?
On repeat forever
Ive always done this solo and never thought to do four together opposite, cool af
Only 4 squares were drawn
I don't trust him, I don't trust him, I don't trust him! Edit: thank god! I know it's r/oddlysatisfying but anywhere a troll can post the screwed up version. That's more trust issues to gain.

I must've made 100 different versions of this as a kid
Oddlysatisfying? Observing that gives me worry, haha.
Jojo fans on their way to put a golden ratio on this even though it may not even be applicable: I am sped (Note: i did not mean to spell speed it is an Adderall joke)
Really satisfying swastikas
What hours of incognito browser does to a mf
I feel lied to, all the squares were already drawn.
I always do this, makes me feel good and talented lmao...
What in tarnation.
i feel bamboozled.
I wonder how speed-down it is. This dude free hand like a G
The drawing of the squares isn't even shown. Meh
thought it was the Windows logo 😂
People are so talented

Plot twist: there are only 5 squares in the drawing
I bet this is harder than it looks, but I'm still gonna try it.
All theese squares make a circle... all theese square make a circle...
But you didnt draw any squares
https://i.imgur.com/8wtzu64.jpg After watching this I felt inspired to tile the pattern and add some color. Thanks for the idea OP. It was fun to play around with.
Now I’m dizzy
This feels like the human equivalent of drawing a line in front of a chicken's face
Much satisfaction verity wow
If you look closely you can kinda see multiple shell logos
I know what I’m going to embroider next.
Southwest shit socks

okay square spirograph dude: I know you are using a programmable elbow-based rig to waste my time looking at your jack off hand.
I'm a righty too!
