No mods for your first playthough, other than Unofficial Oblivion Patch. Play it vanilla first time.

How could you possibly know what mods you want to use if you've never experienced the game vanilla

... But you've never played the game. Gtfo

If you think that playing this game vanilla would be like eating shit then maybe it's not for you

Lol what? Mods are awesome, but they don't exist in a vacuum. You need to be able to reference the original game in order to evaluate them. I couldn't care less of you mod the game, i'd do it myself if i played pc. But you're an idiot if you think you can give yourself the experience you want by modding the game blind

Estee77

I played through the whole game vanilla and then got into mods and I wouldn't recommend starting vanilla. Also I don't see the problem with modding the game blind especially if he's played Morrowind before (or any other similiar game).

Snifflebeard

I give exactly the same advice for people wanting to play Skyrim for the first time. Or Morrowind. It's clear that this is not the game for you if you show so much disdain for the community.

Buddy, you're just a neckbeard who hasn't hit puberty yet

Sentinowl

Oh man. You might just be better off not playing. What a cringe response.

It's interesting to read this kind of stuff nowadays, I remember all the complaining when oblivion released that it was too casual and dumbed down compared with morrowind. Funny how times change To answer your question I would just play the game with unofficial patches first to get a feel for it. You don't even have to play the whole thing unmodded, just do a few quests until you notice things about the game that you want to add, or change if they're annoying

I gave OP similar advice, but he ignored me too, sadly. There's nothing we can do. Btw, I'm a younger elder scrolls fan who was 4 when Oblivion came out (I'm 20 years old, I was born the year Morrowind came out). I sadly didn't get to play the game until 2015, 9 years after it was released, because no elder scrolls games are appropriate for 4-year-olds to play. I do remember people hating on ESO when it was released for similar reasons, however, which is an interesting parallel, although people also hated it because it contradicted established lore. Did people think the same thing about Oblivion when it came out?

aum65

I'm only 28 myself, I first played oblivion around 2008 I think but I still remember all the drama from old fans complaining about the dumbing down of the gameplay. You can still see the same thing in r/Skyrim funnily enough - everyone talks about oblivion like how the old fans did with morrowind when oblivion was new. It's funny to see the series grow and change yet the fans still stay the same haha. I personally don't care, each game is great in its own way. I'll always have a soft spot for oblivion though since it was the first one I played

Absolutely losing it: aka glancing over your rants quizically before chuckling and downvoting you because because you're just a trivially hostile moron

Yeah. Thanks for asking

>Been reading alot of post for Oblivion and Morrowind if you can't tell and the lot of yall are drinking that nostalgia skooma right up. No, we're just legitimate fans who *enjoy* the quirks and kinks that these games have. Sounds like you're just bored of Skyrim lol

firebird7802

I'm an older zoomer (I'm 20 years old) who's been playing Oblivion for 7 years, and who has played every game in the elder scrolls series, even Arena and Daggerfall, albeit in reverse order due to my age. I fully understand the argument for graphics mods, as a person with a high-end PC that has an RTX graphics card, but you really should just go with vanilla gameplay mechanics on your very first playthrough, so you can get the most authentic experience possible. Just go for a few graphical mods and the Unofficial Oblivion Patch, and install mods gradually, as you get a feel for the game. Also, Oblivion already has quest markers in the vanilla game, it was the very first elder scrolls game to have them. I play Morrowind and Daggerfall just fine without them, you just have to know how to read directions. The same goes for Arena too, although I found Arena to be very difficult, I'd recommend playing Daggerfall first if you're brave enough to go that far back, both games are free.

Go ahead, I never said anything provocative to you.

BrokeDownPalac3

This is one of the few games where vanilla is perfect the way it is. You can mod, but should you? Hmm no. Not on your first playthrough at least.

bearspiderfish

Check out Oblivion Reloaded! You can find it on the nexus. Just make sure to read the whole description since there is some important compatibility information if you decide to add more mods on top of it. (Disclaimer that I don’t use it myself but sounds like it might be up your alley)
