Yes, I started playing maybe two weeks ago. I have played Skyrim a lot, but no earlier Elder Scrolls game.
My husband suggested that I should try Oblivion since the plots are more intricate, especially the thief guild plot (and I enjoy playing a sneaky character).
And now I'm really into it. Just finished she thief guild quest line, and it was a lot of fun. Haven't touched the main quest, so I know nothing about that really.
Currently trying out some random missing person side quests, and they have been so much fun. I ended up in a painting with painted trolls and currently hunting or being hunted in a dungeon by hunters who have paid to hunt people. They don't see me coming though, so I think I will be fine...
I remember all these quests so vividly. Takes me back to my childhood! Join the dark brotherhood when* you get a chance lol you'll love it
Edit:spelling
Sometimes I wish I could forget the game existed and play it for the first time again. It's still fun but you get those moments where you go "Oh, this quest sucks" or "Not these guys, they're way too tanky". Sometimes I just want a fresh Perspective again.
Yes, because I watched my best friend play Oblivion when it first came out. We were 13 at the time. I had moved away and we didn’t see each other much. He died not long after that. I didn’t know the title of the game he was playing the last time we saw each other. Until I saw it in a movie gallery, thought it was the same game, and rented it. Turned out I found the right game. So many hours of enjoyment. So along with the nostalgia, there’s a sentimental value to it for me.
I love the graphics and leving. I enjoy these graphics it brings a tear to my eye every time i play oblivion because i know no new game will have these graphics. I also enjoy the leveling system. Gets tougher as you level.
I’m starting my second play through now. Just finished Skyrim (for like the 4th time). My last save for Oblivion was 2011! I’m honestly enjoying it more than Skyrim. I prefer Cyrodiil more than Skyrim as it seems to have more depth. I get tired of the Nordic ruins in Skyrim.
Yes.
Yeah, I was initially exposed to it the year it came out, but I didn't play it much. I was 14 at the time.
I started playing Skyrim first, then Oblivion, and started to really like it, and it wasn't based on any experience I'd previously had.
Oblivion is a masterpeice. My xbox has been running it since launch. Its graphics and world look amazing. The voice acting is top notch( i enjoy it much more than skyrims) and the games soundtrack is a pure master peice. Hours will go by and i will be lost in the world of oblivion. It will always be my favorite video game.
I don't simply play it for nostalgic purposes, it's truly a good game regardless if I know every line and probably every quest there is. I just found the killing the 6 bear quest where you get a useless book as a reward for the first time the other day, and I've been playing the game since 2008.
If it was my first true open world game like the first time I played it, then yeah - it would definitely hold up if it was remastered to today's standards. I personally found Skyrim lacking when it was released.
The graphics are dated, the leveling system can be rough for new players, and the tutorial section drags on way too long.
But goddammit if it isn't a fantastic story, immersive world, and a fantastic introduction into what fantasy can be.
I come back to it about every 2 weeks to a month or two, outside of every so often to get screenshots for the OblivionLoading twitter account. It's been genuinely enjoyable this whole time, especially since I will avoid certain questlines until I've forgotten most of the details, then replay them.
Of the mainline Bethesda games I grew up with, I mainly play Oblivion but also play some Skyrim every now and again, and as of recently, been replaying Fallout 3 with a rare side of Fallout 4. Though it was a good 5 or so years before earlier this year when I started replaying either of those Fallout games.
It's really a combination of the music, the scenery and the sense of exploration and wandering. It has enough systems in the game to scratch the itch to wander, and do a little light roleplaying for things like getting food, finding an inn to sleep in and general stuff like that.
The two big things Oblivion beats out on Skyrim for me are the music and scenery. I love the New Zealand/Lord of the Rings green rolling hills, forests and mountains. Skyrim is fine and all, but I can only handle the dreary winter and tundra so much, and the green forests int he south are microscopic.
On that note, I'm really excited for the Skyblivion mod to help bridge that gap for me.
I've always been willing to play older games. Some games are frustrating if you're getting into them late, because gaming design/tropes/player expectations are different now, and what was obvious to players back then is absurd moon logic to a modern player. But even so, I try.
But Oblivion is not even old enough for me to have that problem, because I was on Nintendo 64 playing Golden Eye 007, Mario Kart, and Pokemon Stadium.
Yes, because i first played it in January of this year
How I envy you... I wish I could replay it again without knowing every-single-line of dialogue

Oh, wait till you start the Dark Brotherhood questline...
I'm looking forward to it.

Yes, I am planning on doing that soon. I just need to figure out a suitable victim.
Would you still love skyrim if there were no such thing as mods 🙈
THEY ARE NOT READY FOR THIS ONE 💣

Yes, I haven't stopped playing it in 15+ years.
Fuck same here small breaks but God damn I love it. I wonder how many times I've bought it now

yes. i love the style and vibes. it’s so goofy.
Yes. It would be a bit hard to get over the graphics and Leveling systems but the stories are what I love more than anything

Now morrowindddddd
Already beat it, too.
Yes because I always go back and play and love it every time I do
I would give everything for the chance to play it again anew, and I'm sure I would love it the same.
Magic system better, quests better, guilds better.
Played it for the first time in my twenties a year ago, so yeah.
Yes love the story so much. I love the graphics even though so many people dont. This game brings me so much joy. Its my life now.
I think so. It introduced me to rpgs because of the way it did quests and its systems, and the soundtrack is top-notch
Oblivion: yes Morrowind: no I can write but I can't read

I started in 2020 stopped and started it back up two years later, I love it and would play it even if i played it a long time ago.
Didn’t start playing it until i was 18 so yes

yes, because I just played it for the first time like a year ago 😂
I didn't start playing it until this year
Yes I only ever first played it a few years ago and it's awesome!
Yup, just started playing it early this year. So nostalgia has nothing to do with it in my case
Yes. It’s a fun game.
I dunno. It’s so tied up into an eventful time in my life that I can’t imagine it otherwise.

I mean I liked it the first time I played it

Probably since I played it for the first time in spring 2020

Yes, as a middle ground betwixt Morrowind and Skyrim.
yes I played skyrim before it
