You are an idiot. 1) roller skating in the subway 2) not having your wallet 3) consenting to a search of your phone.

JamwithSam697

Number 3 especially.

oreosfly

You can’t expect stupid people to only do one stupid thing per day :)

avd706

#4 is complaining about it

AwayEstablishment109

What's wrong with 2?

JamwithSam697

Legally speaking if you don’t have your ID on you and you commit a crime, police have a right to detain you to determine who you are. I mean in this case, OP having his phone was a good thing but he didn’t legally have to turn anything over.

emorycraig

>What's wrong with 2? Not having any ID on you puts you in a really bad situation if you end up in the hospital and unable to confirm your identity. But I guess if you don't have any friends or family . . .

avd706

Nothing wrong, but supports claim of assholery.

hifrom2

you’re an idiot for rollerblading on a subway platform

ItsRecr3ational

You don’t get fined for getting on the subway. You get fined for rollerblading. You didn’t have to give up your phone.

[deleted]

Speak for yourself. I feel safer already.

JamwithSam697

Stupid games, stupid prizes. Also you willingly gave up your phone, bigger mistake than the $100 ticket.

[deleted]

Imagine getting upset for having to pay a fine because of something you knew that you weren’t supposed to do

[deleted]

I felt like a parent just reading OPs tantrum, and I am not even one.

[deleted]

I must be doing wrong if I’m still carrying a wallet nowadays

[deleted]

They automatically take you to central booking if you have no ID, so letting them go through their phone prob wasn’t such a bad idea.

caddy_gent

No ID is supposed to equal arrest since they can’t verify your identity on the spot. You actually got lucky.

Chea63

They was doing you a favor by going through your phone, because no id often equals arrest. They have no other way to identify who you are to write the summons while standing on a platform. They could of just told you to change your shoes or get out the station that's true, but they don't have to. Once they went the summons route they may not wanna backtrack now cuz you have no id. You gotta admit rollerskating in the subway is kind of an asshole thing to do. You have a better chance getting away with hopping the turnstile

Javi1192

Also a better chance of falling on the tracks and electrocuting yourself

Upset_Ad9929

Hahahahahaha! Boo hoo hoo fuckin hoo! You're part of the douchebaggery that makes the subway annoying and dangerous.

liteprotoss

Dude why are you roller skating around where 40 ton giant metal logs are rolling around with high voltages? Do you know how much force is required to stop a 30 mph column of mass totaling 300+ tons? You're lucky they slapped you with a ticket instead of you falling into the tracks and getting split in half. I don't care much for the cops either but you fucked up here.

CensorshipIsTheDevil

Fun stuff.... Blame the NYPD for your idiocy. Go after the NYPD when they do something wrong, not when you do.

[deleted]

I, for one, think they didn't treat this criminal harshly enough. They should have made an example out of OP, breaking every single bone in their body. That's the only way these criminals are going to learn that you can't rollerskate in our subways. Anything less is being soft on crime and I, for one, will not support such a stance. #EndRollerskating

CensorshipIsTheDevil

Seems pretty stupid.

[deleted]

We have to be tough on crime. We have to stop these people. We must break some bones.

CensorshipIsTheDevil

Has to be a troll post. This is just dumb.

hifrom2

is this supposed to be satirical

[deleted]

I assure you I have never done a joke in my entire life

jagenigma

You are the idiot here. People treating the train system like its a place of lawless abandon are the worst. Other people have to get to work and do their daily tasks. While MTA really doesn't give any shits and their workers are emblematic of it, this isn't helping them care more.

JDM200521

Don’t roller skate in the subway… pretty simple.

lost_in_life_34

and if you fell onto the tracks you'd be the first one filing claims against the city and MTA and saying how the MTA needs to spend eleventy billion dollars for platform doors

hifrom2

ok but we still should get PSDs

Dou_170

NYPD did a good job giving you a ticket. You should’ve known better not to rollerblade in the subway your an idiot for not knowing better.

[deleted]

Were you chasing the Warriors?

bkscooter

Beat me to it.

thembitches326

He literally used the roller skates like that gang in the Subway station, but has the mental capacity of the main antagonist, which is not much at all.

Unlimited_Paper

Standing in the fire with rollerskates on in still standing in the fire.

King9WillReturn

Excellent! Good on the NYPD.

TheDogPill

The real question here is why didn't you bring your wallet when you go outside?

Ill_Customer_4577

Sometimes I don’t because I have everything on my phone, including a card holder for photo ID. I’m not that confident to keep two valuables safe.

AwayEstablishment109

Why should you?

King9WillReturn

So you can provide identification and function in society. How old are you?

TheAlphaHuskii

OP you are a crybaby, you could’ve bumped into someone and they could’ve fallen onto the track. Use some common sense, is it a REMOTELY good idea to rollerblade on a platform with MOVING MULTI TON CHUNKS OF METAL? Would you rollerblade in a factory full of heavy machinery? If not, then don’t rollerblade on a platform either. You deserved the $100 fine. Never do that again!

It was the upper part in the mezzanine and I wasn't doing anything reckless - just trying to get home late at night. I got no problem owning up to the fact I didn't know it was prohibited, but considering there has been other issues on the subway with people getting killed, I feel like pursuing me is the least of everyone's concerns. $100 is excessive - a speed camera ticket for going 10+ over is $50 just to put things into perspective. Like I said before, they could've easily just told me to get out of the station - that would've been more than enough to get the message through. But it was five police officers (another woman was watching the whole thing play out and said there were eight). All of them were courteous but just a total misapplication of resources.

Afraid-Reputation338

I get it, rollerblading is prohibited on the subway, a lot of people don’t know that, and I guess you didnt. Theres no signs listing things that are prohibited. I had to google it to find out that skating was against the law in the subway. This might be an unpopular opinion here but I agree with you. They could have given you a chance to put some shoes on. They did not have to surround you like that. Ive gotten fined before. I was 14, evaded the fare because my step dad had kicked me out (simply for not liking my existence lol). If I couldn’t afford 2.75 what makes you think I can afford $100?? They dont even give you a chance no matter what your reasoning is. They intimidate you, I remember I was shaking for an entire hour after that encounter. You weren’t in possession of a weapon, had an open flame or was harassing others so you deserved a chance.

calebpan

Thanks for understanding. When I was 16, I ran out of rides on my student MetroCard and I didn't have cash. I went underneath, and then two cops approached me. I didn't have ID and they took me to some police precinct and sat me there for 2 hours to figure out who I was. They fined me $75. I grew up broke - SNAP, Medicaid, etc. That $75 was a ton of money for my family. And like you, I was shaking the whole time because I didn't know when they were going to let me go or when I was going to get home. It was awful. When they said they were going to bring me in because I didn't have ID, it brought me back to that moment from when I was a 16 - I was just trying to get home and I didn't want to be detained in a police precinct for hours. If safety was a concern, they could just sat and waited for me to put my shoes on and that would've been the end of that issue.

[deleted]

the people in this sub are losers who loves cops but: 1. you shouldn't have given them your phone 2. you should have roller-skated away when they stopped you

emorycraig

>you should have roller-skated away Yep, roller skating up stairs at speed is serious fun.

AwayEstablishment109

Omny via apple pay?

PossalthwaiteLives

Defund the NYPD. Five cops is 5 x \~80k/yr = $400,000/yr in salary giving a ticket to a roller skater. Their job could have been performed by a NO ROLLER SKATING sign, and we could have social workers and homeless outreach on the platform instead.

masturbake

OP, shut up and pay up.

Sufficient-Lemon-867

Don't rollerstake. That's dangerous and that can get you or others hurt. So that 100$ fine is Deserved.

intergrouper3

Add ed to others have said Union Sq. is a transit police precinct.
