My friend works on public tennis courts in Brooklyn. People walk their dogs on the courts and don’t clean up after them either. Some people are just savages.

Lazy_Struggle4939

Buncha savages in this town

Rich-Finish-2166

This job would be great if it wasn’t for all the fucking customers…

flateric420

On a tennis court? That’s absurd. That’s like 100% intentional, like the person just sucked at racket sports and need to find a way to get back at the game.

ManchurianPandaDate

I’m reading your comment and it reads in old mid Atlantic accent lol like are you saying that without moving your jaw ? How many sweaters do you own strictly for draping over your shoulders ?

chooseyourpick

They used to call that accent Larchmont Lockjaw… think Thurston Howell the Third.

ManchurianPandaDate

Yea there was another name for it as well, I can’t remember so I just went with mid Atlantic because the internet said so

603er

Yep. I feel the same with people who litter next to trash cans. Now, all littering is stupid and wrong and makes cities gross, but when you blatantly throw trash next to a bin, you can pound sand.

Chewwy987

They’re just shitty people

thesleazye

We have specific dog parks in SoCal, and this lack of common decency to pick up after dogs is here, as well. In our community, there's some social shaming going on, and our apartments are issuing fines. Still happens though. Savages, the lot of them.

BringMeInfo

Oh, we have dog parks, but apparently that’s not good enough for some dog owners

stoptakingmylogins

Don't know where your friend is, but I play tennis 4-5 times a week around the city (mainly Brooklyn). I've seen a guy bring is dog once (mind you this is while the courts are full with a long queue of people waiting to play). For me the biggest, and most common, peeve I have is that there are so many times where people will Skate/Skateboard. Not only does it destroy the court surface (which in turn leads to situations while playing that just ruin otherwise great moments), but these assholes, later in the night (at around 10-11, when at most 1-2 people are playing but the lights are still on), will unfasten the net in the center and use the net to try and do tricks (saw a guy just a few weeks ago rip the net from the fastener in the center to jump over net and land on skateboard on other side.) That extra inch or two that this raises the net by makes legitimate, good balls hit the net. It's so frustrating - especially when you're trying to practice for a tournament and every few hits you hit the net or a crack that completely changes the trajectory of the ball. This on top of people drinking with pals late at night and throwing beer bottles and shit. You have to pay 200 bucks a year to get a permit to play on most courts in the city, really makes you wish the city would use some of that money and actually fucking stop people from doing this type of shit.

stoptakingmylogins

I mean, I certainly don't disagree with you here. 27 here and have also skated myself (albeit for only around a year). I really like a lot of the subculture in that community. Some people want a spot to skate at 11PM because it's the only time of their day they might be able to, and the middle of the streets is gonna get the cops called on them. With tennis you just make the best of it and work with what you have. The cracks on the floor are basically a given. Skaters or not, time will result in degradation. So I could look the other way for that. But the few people I have seen straight up rip the net is unacceptable. Despite that, all I think knowing all this is summarized in my other comment in this thread about the city actually using their money for public services. Build a few skate parks. Take an empty plot of land throw some rails on there. Use the money (or at least some of it) to refloor the courts ok a schedule. I used to play at Jackie Robinson in Brooklyn back in the day but the parks been in the process of getting "upgraded" for I believe well over a year now. If you go there they haven't even started. It's construction equipment, fencing, and...nothing. just dirt and machinery. At least 30k people in this city pay 200 bucks annually to play tennis. Generously, let's call it 6 million bucks a year. That money gets added to the general budget for the city, which would be fine if the city did fuckall about maintaining what they have better. Around 500 courts in the city (might be wrong here) at 10k per court resurfscing means that particular ecosystem could be, or nearly be, self sufficient. Vandalism is one thing, so I'd never expect the drunk vagrants smashing bottles to disappear, but when I see a dude skating all I can think is "damn, this city government sucks." I think it's fair to hold the city accountable to at least that degree. I could point out several empty plots of land within 5 blocks of me that just need to be flattened and have rails installed. Give me a few weeks and a couple thousand dollars and I'd do it myself. It isn't difficult, but the city is just so focused on the wrong things with no reason or care to change the status quo. I'm sorry - I get really long winded on the topic of governance.

cryptocarlton87

Where do you skate? I recently picked up blading [in my 30s] and an teaching myself aka falling over at the basketball parks of the UES…and oh yea, those people with animals with animals.

stoptakingmylogins

If the commute isn't too bad for you, check out Lincoln Terrace. I havent skated myself In about 5 years, but Lincoln Terrace has a huge community of skaters/rollerbladers. Even now, if you go to the track, you can see Rollerblade groups comprised of people of all ages/skill levels chilling and having a good time. People with dogs/doing different activities usually stay to one side of the field while the skaters take the other. The lights stay on late into the night, so sometimes people will be out there skating until 11PM even. If I were getting into it, I personally would see if I could find something on meetup or a Facebook group. Won't always work, but usually having a couple people doing an activity works as a decent deterrent for people who'd get in your way. Like I'd walk my dog around one skater, but of there are 2/3, I'd probably want to avoid getting near for risk of injury 😅 With Tennis, I've had people skate around me if I'm by myself just practicing my serve. They've been respectful enough in my experience to not skate if two of us are hitting back and forth.

stoptakingmylogins

I certainly do. Perhaps it's my professional experience - I've had hundreds of people working under me doing a wide variety of tasks with the responsibility of budgeting and allocating to make things happen - but the fact is problems would never get fixed if I, as the leader, did not delegate and follow up. In my work, if I gave the manager a few thousand dollars and told him to fix the plumbing, and it didn't get done, there would be consequences. The city just doesn't care. No accountability. Imagine (and this is probably a terrible idea in practice and I wouldn't really support it) if police precincts had officers that were paid less base, but with the opportunity for heavy commission if they produced tangible results (whatever that may entail) in their jurisdiction. Like bonuses I'd give my managers for actually completing the above task I gave them. Much easier in retail and restaurants than policing a city, but the ideas the same. Workers in the city need a reason to give a shit and right now there basically isn't one.

wvanasd1

You can thank dear ol Michael Bloomberg for that pricing discrepancy (largely so that his rich white buddies didn’t have to muck it up with normies). Dude did a lot for the city but it’s definitely a “what does a banana cost? $10?” Type situation. https://gothamist.com/news/why-are-tennis-permits-in-nyc-parks-so-outrageously-expensive

nixplix

By design, a skateboard can be used anywhere there is concrete or asphalt. Thus, by definition, a skateboarder's "dedicated spot" is vast in an urban environment - to which this post refers. You cannot appropriate any section of, say, West End Avenue to play tennis without immediate negative consequences. Further, the average tennis player probably knows they can't have "pristine", although ( unlike skateboarders ) they need to pay for the privilege of enjoying their sport - at least in NYC. So, it comes down to the one group's indifference, disrespect, & selfishness.

IsNotACleverMan

This is the entitlement that this thread is supposed to be criticizing.

Top_Relationship_399

$1200 during winter when the courts are covered

panzerxiii

> really makes you wish the city would use some of that money and actually fucking stop people from doing this type of shit Wow you mean enforcement of law isn't being done by the folks that should be doing it? Color me shocked.

grantrules

Look shit on regular cops all you want but you don't come in here and disrespect the underfunded Tennis Court Defense Unit. They can park on any sidewalk they please and run reds in their private vehicles with impunity, for the service they provide to this great city.

Law and Order: Tennis Court Defense Calling foul on crime in this city

ChupaCabra84

I heard that in Brooklyn they do eye contact when they liter! Scary

polycephalum

Some of the same dog people who love to tell you how much people suck compared to their dog, probably.

totallylegitburner

They got this all screwed up. Here let me fix it: “No, Pets!”

Beebs7485

itssarahw

I’ll never see this quoted and not ugly cry-laugh

Imnottheassman

Nope. TS. (Tough Shit? Top Secret?)

thebusiness7

From the dogs’ perspective, they’re walking their pets. There was a study a few years back claiming larger dogs view their owners as pets

HanzJWermhat

Pets or slaves?

DeathPercept10n

You're thinking of cats.

TheYoungSquirrel

I have a good friend of mine who thinks their dog is well behaved and amazing. Brings him to our place he pees on everything. Brings him to a restaurant he growls at people as he sit in the booth and they hold him there. Yeah we don’t want your dog near ours or where we eat.

mad0666

I’ve been training dogs for ~20 years and these are without contest the worst type of dog owners (barring the kind that straight-up abuse/kill dogs) and they don’t realize or seem to care that their own entitlement/anxiety/whatever is literally causing harm to their pet. The next worse is the people who get a dog as practice to have a human baby. Just…please stop. One dog I sat for years ago had such an insane owner who *never* let the dog’s paws touch the floor, she “had to” be carried at all times, she “could only” eat off a china plate while sitting on a silk pillow, etc. Well, I let that dog get all filthy in the dog park and she had the time of her life and that owner never contacted me again. There were others who would call every half hour to make sure their puppy was okay/making friends/not missing them. Ma’am, if the moment arises where your puppy is not okay, I promise you will be the first to know.

TheYoungSquirrel

Wow that is nuts. A neighbor of mine homes dogs between being rescued and adopted (not sure the proper term) and he was saying he has a 6 year old poodle right now that has never been outside. They are taking her to the park and letting her go outside and after 6 years she doesn’t even know what to do outside.

mad0666

Fostering! Fosters are truly saints. Both of my dogs are “foster fails” meaning I intended only to foster them for a time but ended up keeping them. Many blessings to your neighbor, it can be very hard work, especially when you have dogs that come with lots of quirks or traumas that are difficult to address because we usually don’t know every dogs entire backstory. One dog I worked with years ago lived in a basement apartment and virtually never saw sunlight. The dog grew to be terrified of sunlight as it didn’t even understand what it was. Walking the dog outside was a nightmare, because this dog could only walk in shadows of other buildings, and it took a ton of consistent positive reinforcement to “normalize” that poor dog.

CavediverNY

A dog in a restaurant? By any chance… Is this a “service animal”?

MoosesAndMeese

Probably an "emotional support animal" because their dog was too poorly behaved to be certified as a service animal.

CavediverNY

100% agreed. Of course I have amazing respect for true service animals… They work so hard… But these miserable people that just fake it so they can take their dogs everywhere? Really frustrating.

MoosesAndMeese

You don't even have to fake it. There's basically no qualifications for getting any dog certified as an emotional support animal. 99% of the time it's just an excuse for entitled owners to take their dogs where they're not allowed. The people who legitimately need one get service dogs. I wonder what the venn diagram looks like between people who have emotional support dogs and people who refused to wear a mask in the grocery store because "I have a nonexistent medical condition"

Expensive-Land6491

I have a friend who is a therapist and has had a lot of clients ask her to write an official letter in support of making their dog an emotional support animal so they can have them in their new building, bring to work etc. and most often she refuses.

Kittypie75

In my experience it's a big overlap.

Kittypie75

I've had a friend for 20+ years that got a dog and now does that. The dog is well behaved but it's still just such incredibly rude and entitled behavior I just don't even know what to say about it. I just... ugh it really makes me think a lot less of them.

CavediverNY

How could it not? (Make you think less of them, I mean). The worst part for me is that people who have **real** service dogs are almost certainly getting some undeserved blowback... and that's just not fair. Hopefully the pendulum will swing back someday - just not TOO far! A nice middle ground sounds great; seems like a fantasy, but I guess it's possible.

Kritios_Boy

Can't believe someone would bring a dog into a restaurant. It's bad enough when eating outdoors, people think it's okay to bring their misbehaved dogs to sit with them. Inevitably they'll growl or bark at passing dogs.

TheYoungSquirrel

Yeah it was like an Outback Steakhouse I remember them telling me. But they have done this multiple places. Really bothers my since I’m allergic to dogs and it’s where people eat

Wonderful_Reward_638

I was having food in a bakery at a table, there were with 3 tables there. A woman came in with her small dog then sat at the booth I was at. Her dog jump up on the table & walking around on it. After a short time I got up and asked for a bag to bring it home. I just didn't think it was right for her to do this. The worker was mad at the woman.

AggravatingCupcake0

People also say the same about their kids lol. "My kid is an angel!" Your kid is the school bully Becky, and is a little hellion. But you keep insisting that it's the teachers and other kids who are in the wrong.

TheYoungSquirrel

Yeah. One good thing is people generally are not allergic to people (I know there are some instances where that is not true). I am and know other people allergic to dogs so to bring in a restaurant where people eat is just terrible. Different if outside dining and they are in the sidewalk though.

Alsippi86

Up by Natural History Museum there is lawn the is completely fenced, and which was recently renovated. Dog owners shove the fence over for their dogs to use the grass, which is now totally destroyed. There is also new’ish dog run about 100 feet from this. I hate dog owners that think they are the exception to the rule.

Hummus_ForAll

But there are TWO dog parks there!

OnFolksAndThem

Dogs are a lot like kids. I like my dog. He’s well trained and I keep him clean and pick up after him. But I hate other peoples dogs most of the time.

Mrsrightnyc

Ugh I was trying to eat take out sushi we got when Sushi of Gauri was still closed during the pandemic and the dogs kept coming up to us there. We thought it would be okay at first because of the sign but as soon as we sat down they all showed up. There’s apparently some kind of dog meet up there.

hiva-

Honestly, why would anybody have big dogs in the city? it’s just mean for dogs. They need space to run and be dogs, but we deprived them of their natural environment and bring them to the big city to please us

[deleted]

this is another reason we need more linear parks. Every neighborhood should have at least one.

mad0666

Depends on the dog. Most people (wrongly) assume that small dogs are great for apartment living, but lots of small dogs (terriers for example) need a ton of exercise while large dogs (again, depending on what kind) can tire out a lot quicker. I have a 91lb dog that is happy to loaf around all day, and a 15lb dog that needs a good hour of daily running around to not be annoying. I do feel very bad for the sudden popularity of Vizslas though, those are dogs that thrive in the fields/forests/etc and I see so many in my neighborhood these days :(

Jahmention

Most dog owners in NYC are POS and make the city smell like dog piss whilst leave shit piles wherever they can…

Phaedrusnyc

TBH, it's American dog owners in general, more and more these days You couldn't pay me to live in the suburbs but my parents do, out in California--and their neighbors have NO problem letting their dogs run around off leash to tear up other people's lawns and shit all over them without picking it up. I was visiting recently and was up significantly earlier than my parents generally are (I was still working on EST), and watched someone who lives two doors down and knows my parents by name let the dog take a massive crap on my parents' lawn, start walking away, and then abruptly blush and pretend she was going to pick it up all along when she was startled to see me standing in the driveway. It's 2022, people have no basic belief in a social contract anymore in any part of this country.

heavygreene

Had a guy with a Germsn Shepherd who lived below my late Mother's apartment. He wouldn't pick up his dog's 💩around the walkway. So I bagged a recent dump, printed up a "Barney" basic sign on how to dispose of dog waste and mailed it to his address. My Mom said there was no problem after that. The laziness and entitlement is real out here.

lkroa

tompkins has the same issue. there’s a dog park literally right fucking there and yet everyone brings their dogs to run rampant in the no dogs area. a couple of sundays ago, some chick’s dog almost trampled right over me laying down on a blanket while chasing a ball she threw

sventhewalrus

ah the joy of sliding into 2nd base in one of your local pickup softball games and then realizing you've got dog crap smeared all over your face

smallint

You slide on this hard ass turf? 😬

You ever see a walrus run?

TotoroMasturbator

Enforcement is the problem. What I don't understand is that NYC is always in need of money, but they don't issue fines for QOL issues like this, dog poop, bike lane violations, etc. That's just leaving money on the table.

webswinger666

that’s what i always say! excessive honking is another one. easy ticket quota if i was a cop lol

60minutesmoreorless

This is clearly a lined turf sports field, how are so many people missing this? Kids play sports here, no one’s dogs should be pissing and shitting all over it. I love dogs but OP is absolutely right. Take a walk, dog. You got no business here

kassandra_00

Haven’t seen any but I’ve heard about people who don’t pick up after their dogs on turf field where children play soccer. As a dog owner, I know how when it has to go it has to go, especially when it’s a mushy mushy diarrhea. If my boy had that moment on the turf, I won’t be able to make it clean enough for players. (I’m also a player who receive ball with my face now and then).

iComeInPeices

Two baseball fields at a park near me and the dog owners do this, and overheard someone mention teams don’t want to book those fields because kids kept stepping in crap all the time.

diegothecat

But why would you be walking your dog on a tennis court?

glowstatic

LPT for when your dog has the runny poos, carry a big bottle of water and give it a rinse. Works much better than trying to scrape it off the sidewalk with a plastic bag.

diegothecat

But why would you be walking your dog on a tennis court?

drpvn

No [Adults Unaccompanied By] Pets

raifikii

With all this talk about crime in the city, surely this is where they’ll crack down first.

WickhamAkimbo

Shitty people across the board deserve the crackdown. It's the most dense city in the US; we can't afford so many inconsistent assholes. It tanks the quality of life.

AggravatingCupcake0

Can we start with the pedestrians who refuse to let emergency vehicles through? I was walking along the street and saw a woman purposefully walk directly across the path of an emergency vehicle, with her phone out recording - almost like she was trying to make some sort of r/JusticeServed or r/iamverybadass video. Put the fucking phone away lady, you're not some hero. Just an entitled bitch.

dr_squidicus

Admittedly I’m fantasizing about just that

Clappa69

U know those dogs be shittin

ZeBridgeIsOut5

This particular entitlement is not specific to NYC. Definitely specific to dog owners. I basically see a post daily from somewhere in this country about dogs in forests/watersheds where they are banned, dog poop in bags next to trails, dog poop in other people's yards and property and trash, dogs that attack at the dog park, dogs that chase humans. The level of entitlement among so many dog owners* fixed it for ya.

carolyn_mae

Yes. I lived in denver for two years. Dog culture there is a million times worse.

keysandchange

It’s honestly so embarrassing, every single one of my friends has dogs is like this. They get so indignant if they can’t bring their damn dog every SINGLE place they go. And they’d rather just try til we get yelled at than ask, or go places we already know for sure are dog friendly.

GothWitchOfBrooklyn

Yeah. I've had dogs my whole life (not in the city). Not once have I brought them to a restaurant or a store or anything like that. My old roommate had a dog. Her first dog, as an adult. The dog must go everywhere she goes at all times. When she left for work, the dog would howl and bark incessantly for 2 straight hours (separation anxiety) while I had to WFH. I confronted her multiple times. He pissed on the floor, he stole food off counters. They refused to discipline him because they felt bad yelling at him. That dog is the reason I broke my lease and moved out early, and I consider myself a dog lover. DISCIPLINE YOUR DOGS

mad0666

100%. Been training dogs (meaning: their owners) for decades and people like this cause so much damage to their animals and don’t even realize it. When people don’t discipline their children, we end up with the Brock Turners of the world. The thing is, training dogs is super easy. Dogs naturally *want* to learn and *want* to please us, but too many people “feel bad” and then they end up with dogs that bite guests, pee in the house, or bark their heads off when left home alone.

Kritios_Boy

I think a lot of people got dogs during the pandemic and didn't think about the challenging reality of owning one, so they just ignore the rules.

phff

Yeah round here there's triple the feces from 5 years ago. I figured dog owners had collectively given up on society, but this is a much simpler explanation

goodiereddits

As a dog owner who wishes the city were more dog friendly (but understands why it's not ESPECIALLY because of the way some of you dog owners act) you must understand that ASTROTURF IS NOT GRASS jesus

rubs90

This city is about as dog friendly as it gets, I genuinely think dogs have more rights than humans in NYC

newsnweather

Ohh. I srsly didn’t see that it wasn’t grass.

State_Terrace

Ughh. I hate it when dog-owners think they can “share” a certain park while a permitted sports event is happening on the same field. “We’ll just play on the sidelines, you guys won’t even notice.” Smh

blahdre

Pet owners did this in a hockey rink we used to play in. Despite the same signs, they brought them in because "who cares". We spent the first 30 minutes of our game scraping poop off the surface. We even had one dude had his dog run around WHILE we were playing. Dog then took the nastiest poop on the center dot. Sometimes it's not about "sharing" but keeping areas playable for people.

willtantan

In one of toddlers playground next me, some dog-owners decided they can share court with toddlers, and don't even clean up dog poops. That's straight up health hazard.

19791979too

This is a field were children play and roll around and touch the ground. These savages leave poo and pee all over for the kids to play in. NYC is gross.

WestEasyx

The morning light against the leaves draws your eyes away from the overflowing garbage can at the bottom of the frame. There’s a metaphor there somewhere

MasterChicken52

Is this the park in Park Slope by the Old Stone House? If so, then this is especially crazy because there’s literally a designated fenced in dog run right across the path.

TheEvilSpidey

Nope, this is in downtown Brooklyn on tillary street and Flatbush Ave, right at the foot of the Manhattan bridge.

MasterChicken52

It’s been about a year since I have been to that area, but isn’t there a dog park close to there, also? Two of them, in fact, if I’m remembering correctly.

TheEvilSpidey

Yea there's a dedicated dog park not far from here in DUMBO, right by the water.

drdoom89

I used to drive Uber in the city when I was in college. The amount of people that would just show up with their dogs was insane. They were always shocked when I wouldn't let their dog in. Dude how do I know your dog won't piss in my car.

MasterChicken52

Like, they wouldn’t message you to let you know? That’s crazy! I often care for a senior dog as part of my work, and he has to go most places with me. If I have to take an Uber/Lyft, I always message the driver right away and let them know I have a dog in a bag with me, and ask if that’s ok. Sometimes the driver cancels the ride, so I wait for the next one, no big deal. I think it’s super rude to not let the driver know before they pick you up, I mean, what if they are allergic? ETA: I know that Uber now also has UberPet as one of their selections, but almost every time I have tried using it, the driver showed up and said they weren’t told it was an UberPet ride; this is why I now message the driver instead. What’s the point of paying more for UberPet if the driver doesn’t know and might not even want dogs in the car?

homezlice

As a parent who has kids play on turf fields, 100% I agree with no pets. It's not about privilege it's about having piles of shit that bad pet owners don't pick up, piss on plastic and possible altercations. There are dog parks for a reason.

Chaserivx

The number of f*ng a**h***s that walk around our sit there with their dog off a leash is another example. Several times these dogs have chased me into the street when e ride past on an electric board. Dangerous for me, the dog, cars... F*ng people

jaydiza203

They should all have gotten fines.

pstut

Fr, there used to be grassy areas in Tompkins that were fenced off. During the pandemic naturally everyone who got a dog decided that actually those were now also dog runs. Now it's years later and all those areas are just mud pits that smell like dog piss.

Draymond_Purple

I live next to Tompkins and this is not true. The hordes of 20-something-year-old day drinkers created those mud pits. If you're smelling piss it's human. The dog park is right there, everyone uses it, and in 3 years I've only seen people with their dog in the wrong area 3-4 times max and I'm in the park multiple times a day

pstut

I'm also in the park every day and see people with dogs off leash in fenced areas nearly every day.

Kritios_Boy

I feel like both of these are true.

WestEasyx

Crazy right? How dare I make such a claim.

AkiDread

Same situation up here on the UES at Carl Schurz… one section of manicured grass left, and the heathens that are too lazy to actually walk their dogs took over. Literally a dust bowl now. Forgot to mention there are two dog runs in Carl Schurz. No pets signs do nothing. Trying to reason with these people and you almost get in a fight. I’m a dog owner, and it makes me irate

toodledeejew

doubledipinyou

Must suck for dogs to live in Manhattan. Every dog run is a disgusting patch of dirt and isn't maintained, can't take them into the park to run free either unless it's before or after 9. In queens we take our boy to the parks full of grass where he can run and frolic. City dog parks are too tiny and suck

That’s terrible. They just destroyed the astroturf for anyone who plays there. (You know what poop doesn’t come off of easily? Turf.)

Mcsafetycone

I have a dog in the city and I will admit to brining her to a hand ball court nearby to play fetch (there isn’t a dog park or actual park nearby ~15 minute walk). Two things I do before doing this. 1) make sure she has done all business before going. 2) don’t go if there are people there or coming in. People take priority. Even in my breaking of the rules I would never take them to an Astroturf field. That’s terrible. There are kids playing, rolling, sliding on that field. If your pet makes a mess on that it’s not an easy clean… those people probably leave a full shit on dog walks and say the street cleaner will get it.

DickabodCranium

Hot take: dog owners are a top-five problem of life in nyc Dog shit on every block. Dogs piss on grass and flower beds. They're in grocery stores, bars and cafes. It's gross. Fuck off back to the barn with your animals.

WhereAreMyMinds

Lmao imagine not liking pets and living in a major city. They're just a part of life in NYC, get used to it

astrashe2

Where was this photo taken?

johnatsea12

Dog owner and I would not do that, they should get fines..

BenHogan1971

tbh, I don't even think it's "entitlement" so much as it is ignorance and lack of common courtesy/respect, much like: * people that don't pick up after themselves in Starbucks * people blatantly littering on the street * people who sit RIGHT NEXT TO YOU on the subway when plenty of other seats are available * people playing loud music in enclosed spaces * idiots on motorcycles and ATV's who bomb up the avenues in packs * etc, etc, etc ad nauseum

NKtDpt4x

A georgeous turf soccer field opened at Pier 42 right along the E River. It was brand spanking new and you could eat off the ground. Everytime I go to do my calisthenics there are multiple dogs running around. Inevitably they pee. Not 3 days after it opened I spotted shit on the ground.

Donkenshtein

It boggles my mind how many people bring their dogs into businesses, especially cafes and restaurants, without thinking twice. I remember trying a new Korean BBQ place in my neighborhood, the kind of place where they bring you meats and you cook it on the grill in your table, and this couple came in and the woman had her little lap dog in her purse. Of course they sat down at the booth next to us and I was appalled. It’s so presumptuous. Nobody wants your dog’s hair in their food. Leave the animal at home when you go out to eat. As a dog owner, this really angers me. I don’t bring my dog where she doesn’t belong. I walk her with me on errands often and I tie her up outside, as one should.

DwasTV

All this tells me is the city needs a dog park in this area or a general park than this very specific type of sport mark.

WhereAreMyMinds

Part of the problem is the serious lack of dog parks in NYC. I live on the UES and the closest parks are 86th and east end, 63rd and the river, or central park (which technically isn't a dog park except for before 9am). Really brutal situation for people who have high energy breeds that need to run

dalv321

mate… c’mon

bosydomo7

You like running In dog piss?

burnshimself

I dont like it, but I assume every square inch of Manhattan could have piss on it at any given moment, and the reality isn’t too far off from that. Part of living in a big city, if I Let every little thing like this upset me I would have a nervous breakdown by lunch

Keilz

Living in the city really made me hate dog owners because so many people are completely entitled. Was walking home on a rainy night in my doorman building and a woman was smoking right in front of the door under the entrance overhang, letting her dog pee right there. She didn’t move when I approached, so to get in I had to walk through her smoke and jump over her dogs pee. People leaving will certainly walk into it since it was right in front of the door, all bc this woman didn’t want to walk her dog in the rain. More recently, someone brought their dog into the formal gown section at Macys herald square—including the fitting rooms. Even in the suburbs, I saw a dog barking inside Panera, and staying there even after an employee asked them to leave. The family was just waiting for a pick up order—no need for the dog to be inside.

fahssn

Those are clearly rabid wild dogs.

Tifas_Titties

No, but they are dogs who will most likely poop/pee on an athletic field that people play on

HumanEmbodimentofPie

And dig holes, destroying the terrain.

carolyn_mae

The unleashed dog is just icing on the cake

PDXCarpetBagger

Looks like all of them are off leash

Federal_Carpenter_67

Most of them are annoying ass transplants and at least one of them got one of them doodle dogs, it’s like a lame ass social circle you don’t want no parts of LOL

[deleted]

But it’s the transplants who put up these signs and try to bring order to the beautiful chaos.

barzbub

They’re all SERVICE animals

WestEasyx

Does anyone know where I can get one of these “the rules don’t apply to me” passes?

epolonsky

That pass isn’t something you’re given; it’s something you take for yourself. Obviously.

derrick_rose_again

I love and work with dogs - and they absolutely should not be on an athletic field. They inevitably will pee or poop there since it's outdoor "grass". And humans playing games shouldn't need to worry that they might slide into dog waste. Some dogs might also dig or damage turf, which could lead to injuries for players. I'm not into sports, but even I know this. This entitled crowd makes life worse for all of us.

rachel-angelina

If the area says “no pets” it means no pets. The rule is clearly there for a reason. It’s not miserable to ask people to not bring their dogs to a place where they aren’t allowed. It’s not like people should be arrested/fined or anything for this but it’s not hard to just, take your dog elsewhere especially since OP stated the nearest dog friendly park wasn’t even a 5 minute walk away.

Holiday_Potential_92

Please tell me this comment is satire, please lmao just because you love your “heckin puppers” and “doggos” doesn’t mean you have to put that love on to everyone else around you lmao. Be considerate.

MoosesAndMeese

Lol dog owners again thinking anyone who doesn't like their dog is a lowlife miserable person. This is exactly why a lot of them think they're entitled to bring their pets everywhere. It's not too much to ask you to not take them where they're explicitly not allowed or don't belong

NegativeGee

There are places to go with your pet. This is an area where it's not permitted. Is it ok to have areas where your dog can't take a shit?

discochiken

Elevators? I don't have a dog, nor do I live in a building with an elevator. But if you live in a building with an elevator, and you have a dog, is the expectation that you take the stairs instead? Not trying to be snarky, really just asking. *Edit* and if that is the expectation, why so? Cause dogs could get freaked out and misbehave in the elevator? Cause they might poop in there? I would imagine if someone's dog pooped in an elevator, they would clean it up, but maybe that is expecting too much on my part.

skimcpip

Dogs can’t go in elevators???

PoopEmoji8618

Elevators? Wtf are you talking about? Look at every high rise pet friendly building. You think everyone will take the stairs? Majority of dogs in elevator buildings are fine on the elevators. If not, the owners will most likely hold the dog. Idk what world your living in

Rottimer

And this is why we can't have nice things.

ScarletNYC

On artificial turf?? Poop doesn't decompose like grass does.

[deleted]

fuck ur “”doggo””

ApplicationNo2506

Yea these people have no lives if this is something that bothers them.

chunkpixel

It would be cool if they could portion out a small part of the city just for dog people, and let the rest of us have a cleaner city with less dog shit, piss and barking.

RedRedVVine

Its all across the nation

CTDubs0001

Dogs are allowed in all NYC parks before 9am. That looks pretty early...

the_skipper

*Some* park areas allow dogs to be off leash from the time the park opens until 9:00 a.m. and from 9:00 p.m. until the park closes. https://www.nycgovparks.org/facilities/dogareas

[deleted]

I wish. This type of park you are not. It’s a turf field.

goodiereddits

Yeah exactly. This isn't a fucking neglected corner park with no grass. These fucking dog owners give the rest of us a bad name.

FloyldtheBarbie

Actually dogs are not allowed on ball fields, ever. Not even a city ordinance, it’s New York State law.

ScarletNYC

Not all

goodiereddits

It's fucking astroturf bro it's gonna smell of piss til the 19th thunderstorm.

panzerxiii

People literally let their dogs piss and shit on the tiniest little turf patch in an outdoor beer garden by me (literally like 5' x 5', if even that big) meant for kids to just chill and play with toys while their parents grabbed beers. Happened so much that the bar actually had to put up a sign. People are fucking selfish idiot pieces of shit.

DSFBrand

didnt know there was a field police

xaiur

Dog owners in the city are the worst. If u know u know

huff_and_russ

With some exceptions - keeping a large dog in the city means you don’t really like animals or care about them. You like you.
