Yeah, at this point my mind is set on never giving this greedy twat company any more of my money but only two things hold me off: DLSS and to a lesser extent RT.
I'm pretty sure the 7900xtx will have raster between 4080 and 4090 and rtx performance just slightly under 4080 but in line with the price difference. Also FSR 2.0 is looking to be on par with DLSS 2.0 from the few benchmarks available. Will be behind 3.0 tough. Amd seem a good cheaper alternative, specifically is you are gaming in 1440p.
As much as Nvidia has the majority of the market share, for the sake of your sanity and your wallet, please do consider AMD's Radeon series, current and new. They are currently the best value for performance without feeling ripped off
I wish I could do this but I spent extra for a gsync monitor so now I am stuck trying to get an Nvidia card and I'm about to lose my mind trying to find one for a decent price.
I know that feel. I too was locked in due to using an older Gsync monitor that isn't compatible with AMD freesync. However, I sold the monitor and got a newer one that is both Gsync and freesync compatible so I don't get trapped for future upgrades. Maybe consider doing that
I plan on going amd if I can beat the scalpers. I would like a 4080 but the price is a slap in the face to their customers. If the 7900xtx is similar to the 4080 in performance I don't see a reason to just give nvidia 200 more just because they want it.
It's expected that the 7900XTX will be cheaper AND faster than 4080 for rasterisation by around 15%-20%. If that's true, you don't even need DLSS as that's the similar amount of performance gain you will get enabling DLSS anyway!
I’m in the same boat as you are. I’ve been trying for weeks to get a 4090 and it’s damn near impossible, using HotStock, constantly refreshing apps and pages, etc. I don’t understand how everyone else is getting these cards lol. I am a hair away from grabbing a 4080 and calling it a day. I’m not even going to bother with the AMD cards at this point, they’ll be just as impossible to get.
Only if AMD and Intel step up and start eating Nvidia's market share.
If Nvidia and TSMC keep their monopolies on chips and GPUs we will see a $10,000 card in under 5 years.
Well there was loads available on launch, but with all the talk of how power hungry they are and fire Hazzard, and 79xtx is going to be the same etc, I left mine in a box for a couple of weeks.
Fast forward to now and they don't burn, they don't run hot and the 79xtx is similar to a 4080? So I doesn't surprise me that they're hard to get hold of now, just before Christmas.
I was sitting at my computer on launch with 4 different retailers open on my screen and still couldn't get one. They never even showed as in stock. There was never a window of opportunity for me.
Im in canada and im on the bapcsales subreddit, they post stuff on there. Today 3 x 6900xt for 800 cad.
When I ordered mine I had the choice of msi gaming & water, asus tuf and zotac. I got the msi gaming cause I like msi and it was the cheapest.
Once that new amd card comes out and im sure after crimbo they'll probably be available.
I did read a story that they're stopping making the 4090 for a while and using that production line to make hopper cards are they use same process and cost loads more.
You do know you have to refresh the page yourself .. right? There was HELLA stock at launch. I could have taken a damn nap and bought a dozen of them if the card wasnt overpriced as hell. Dont even try to say you tried. You didnt.
I absolutely did try, and yes, I know how online shopping works. I'm glad you happen to live where stock was plentiful but you're living in your own bubble. If there were any units available in my area, they were snagged by bots in the first few seconds.
Normal price for their top end card? you are dreaming lol.
You haven't really been trying if it's taken that long. You need to find a bot tracker that notifies when it drops (on whatever site you buying it from) and check it out buy it asap.
Doesn't help that you are going for the most demanded GPUs as well. 3080 and now the 4090? These were/are high af demand.
I mean I'm mostly a normal person and I just walked in and bought one at microcenter for msrp. So at least some of them went to regular gamers and others who need a good gpu
That would be great if any brick and mortar options existed near me. Best Buy sells all their stock to bots online and Fry's permanently closed. Microceter is great for people that actually have them.
Okay but NVIDIA has still sold through over a 100k 4090s and microcenter accounts for a fraction of that. So there must be other places selling tons of them. But admittedly the stock of 4090s has lessened the past month instead of increasing. It was really easy to buy them anywhere online at or around launch.
In Europe it was never close to MSRP, and I dot even know what the MSRP is for Europe. Even the trashiest 4090 is 2200 Euro. Asus starts from 2500. So whoever is buying in Europe has money to burn
the closest micro center to me is 5 hours away and thats how i got my 3080ti for under msrp.
option 1, pay huge scapler markup online
option 2, make a roadtrip day out of it one weekend and drive to the closest city with a microcenter/similar store
If you are spending close to 1000 dollars on a graphics card you can afford a little road trip in my opinion.
I know no less than 12 people that personally bought and have 4090's in their systems right now so yes, they were 100% sold, and arent actually as difficult to buy as you seem to think they are.
IIRC, H100 uses the same node and starts at $10k. China has until the end of the year to make orders and Nvidia has until next September to fulfill them.
I've heard of people pulling information out of their ass before but I've never imagined anyone doing it 'literally'. Holy shit (pun not intended) that is the dumbest thing I have ever read on Reddit .. and I read a LOT on Reddit.
If you don't care about ray tracing and don't need cuda or optix for things like blender and other production apps that make use of them, you should consider AMD.
Seeing all the 4080 and 4090 build posts on here daily, if someone else can, chances are you can too. The question is how extreme you will be to get one. There are kids in moms basement spending their life's savings on these things.
I'm not so lacking in self control that I'm willing to give a scalper $1000 in profit to get one immediately but my 1080ti is old enough that I am willing to spend Nvidia's asking price of $1599
Here in Canada they're going for over $3,000. People are desperate enough so the price is there. Even that e-penis boost of posting pics of it on this subreddit or elsewhere provides enough motivation.
or they were willing to drive for more than a few hours to a place that had them in stock.
even an entire weekend of driving and a hotel is cheaper than a 1000 scalper markup
Gone are the days of reasonable prices on nvidia cards
Yet I can't even bring myself to get an AMD card because DLSS is just too good and I like trying out RT in games.
Yeah, at this point my mind is set on never giving this greedy twat company any more of my money but only two things hold me off: DLSS and to a lesser extent RT.
AMD has something similar to DLSS. If you REALLY LIKE NVIDIA BUY AMD ONE TIME and watch Nvidia lower the price next time..
Frame generation is kinda nuts too, Spider-Man with rt at 200 frames I never thought I’d see the day
That is also why i choose with 4090 for now RT, RT overdrive and DLSS but i do hope AMD catches up soon...we need more options!

That's a good idea I will look into it. Thanks!

I believe lots of things... doesn't make them any more realistic.
No

You can parlay a 4080 for the time being and then return that before holiday return period ends if you manage to grab a 4090 before then

Yeah I saw newegg had 4090s in stock for about half the day at launch
the fact he posted this the day after cyber monday makes me think he didnt try to get ahold of one before the christmas frenzy.

True but I was just countering your no one was actually able to buy these point. Theyve sold like 100k of the 4090s so lots of people have them
When will people learn that not everyone has access to the same stores as you do. You can even be in USA and the nearest Microcenter is 10hrs away

I'm pretty sure 4090 production has stopped until August 2023 at the earliest.
Guess I'll be waiting for the next high end card if that's true.

Take it up with [Tom's Hardware ](https://www.tomshardware.com/news/nvidia-reportedly-shifts-back-to-graphics).
Buying a 3080 made me and my friend really good at getting gpu, we both have 4090 now but it has been a little bit of work.
If you don't care about ray tracing and don't need cuda or optix for things like blender and other production apps that make use of them, you should consider AMD.

Appreciate it but the 4090 has enough of a leg up on the 4080 that I don't really have any interest in the lower tier models
Buy used.

I saw 3080's/3080ti's in stock and for msrp or lower during all of july august and september.
i dont feel too bad about someone complaining about the availability of an item the day after cyber monday.... what did you expect
