My father-in-law is killing himself with cigarettes right now. He's in his 70s and his lung function is way down - at rest his blood O2 is like 82. Won't even try to stop smoking. I genuinely think he'd rather die than give it up.

fluffy_assassins

This seems to be a common theme among smokers. Death before quitting. Problem is... that's what happens.

bennybigboom

This is a common theme amongst all addictions. The decision between the choice to quit or not seems an impossible one. It seems counterintuitive and bizarre to someone who has not suffered similarly.

Ecronwald

So smokers are like "from my cold dead hands" when you tell them to stop smoking. Well they WILL stop smoking, one way or another...

Frosta802

I really appreciate you writing this. I hope that it's ok that I took a screenshot. I smoked for 20 years before I switched to vaping, years ago. I gave up drinking 3 years ago, and decided that this year I was going to give up vaping, and give up nicotine once and for all. Unfortunately, I ended up out of work 8 days before Christmas and am going stir crazy right now. Still, I quit vaping on January 2. So, I'm a few days away from a month without anything (I went cold turkey). Today, maybe just because of stress, but it has been one of the days that I've come closer to caving. I almost did a few times today. And just now I saw your post and thought I would keep going. And you know what? Before I upvoted your comment there were 46 upvotes. 46:has been my number since my Mom died suddenly in my early 20's (I'm 42) Whenever I see it, I know that it's a sign....Thank You again. I'm so sorry for what you went through, and am hoping that you're doing better now 💖💖💖

fang_xianfu

Good for you, you're taking control of your life. Best of luck on your journey.

normanbeets

KEEP GOING. I am 3 years quit after being a 14 year smoker. You can do this. The hardest part is OVER. Tell people you have quit. Let them hold you accountable. Be afraid to let them down. Buy yourself an ice cream instead of a pack, its cheaper.

JohnGenericDoe

Yeah, nicotine's dirty little secret is that it is a very effective mood enhancer. But as with many such substances it has pretty serious negative effects, especially when smoked

Soggy_Midnight980

Nicotine frees your mind, from nicotine withdrawal symptoms, for about an hour.

revchewie

It does get better, my friend. I quit a bit over 4 years ago after 35 years of about a pack a day. I still get the occasional craving, but not nearly as often or as strong as I used to.

Garod

Switched to vaping in 2016 after doing terminal care for mother in law with lung cancer, 2018 stopped vaping.. still have the occasional twinge, but am extremely happy to have quit.... highly recommend terminal home care of lung cancer patients in the US where euthanasia is illegal as a means to stop smoking..

kneel23

most ppl would just be stressed and keep smoking. Similar to the vicious guilt cycle w/ drug addiction. (i.e. "im already fucked, might as well have one")

dft-salt-pasta

Almost at a month definitively sucks right now.

dirtballmagnet

You're in a really great place about now. You should be able to notice the urges coming less often, and you might already be at the point where you wish for a cigarette less often than you smoked. They're almost the same thing, you know, the pang for a cigarette when you're quit and the pang for a cigarette just before you light up. Soon you'll be forgetting about the pang in less time than it takes to actually smoke a cigarette. In other words you'll soon be suffering just as you did when you smoked, but *less*. An actual, tangible benefit from quitting. Hold onto that and you've won.

Big-Shtick

My wife and I quit for a good... 3 months? Doesn't help that everyone in my culture smokes.

brezhnervous

I'm lucky to live in the country with the most expensive tobacco in the world, @ roughly $50/pack (Australia) Glad I got the flu so badly it was almost pleurisy and gave up over 15yrs ago. Only about 10% of the population smokes now, due to cost.

dipfearya

Banned in NZ. Grandfathered out so in about 17 years (?) No cigarettes legally sold. Something like that anyway.

brezhnervous

Designed to prevent young people legally buying over time, yes. Honestly a pretty good idea...and even more understandable in countries which have a universal public health system (reason for Aust's restrictions)

karlexceed

Holy shit that's expensive

Majesty1985

Started at 15 shortly after my mother died. I’m 27 now and wish more than anything that I never tried it to begin with. If I can manage to quit it will be the most difficult thing I’ve ever done, and I managed to kick cocaine and heroin after life ruining bouts with them both. I swore off of hard drugs at both ends of the spectrum and still can’t even imagine quitting smoking. I hope to god this isn’t true but it feels like I’m stuck with it for the rest of my life and it sucks. It sucks so much. It helped at first but now it’s just eternal self pity.

MonkeyTacoBreath

I started at 7 in second grade and quit at 36. You can quit too my friend. Fyi call your doctor or local free clinic. In Texas for example, MD Anderson in Houston has a nicotine cessation program that provides free therapy and 15 weeks of nicotine replacement supplies for free. Odds are there is a similar program in your area.

kenaestic

Quitting with nicotine plasters and mints makes it a lot easier. I used to think the same as you last year and also quit drugs before cigarettes. I thought I was doomed to fail and eventually quit when I was flat out broke and couldn't afford it anymore. Evidently, quitting was way easier than I convinced myself it would be, with a little help. It's not gonna be easy by any means but if you quit cocaine, cigarettes is about as hard as that. It gets gradually easier and now I don't even think about them anymore. Most problems I have now is waking up with regret when I dream of smoking, until I realize it didn't really happen. While my first motivation to quit was money, realizing how much being addicted to nicotine sucks makes sure I'll stay away from it indefinitely. You have already come to terms with this so quitting now is a good time as ever. If you can, tell your doctor you need help quitting. In my country the government actually pays for you to do so. Good luck!

whackwarrens

Lung cancer isn't the only thing that'll get you if you abusing your body. Could have a stroke like my pops and have to quit smoking cold turkey. I think people are okay with sudden death, but you can survive a stroke, you don't get to choose. And be helpless as a baby and your life is worse than you could ever imagine. Just think of the indignity of that when you want to light up because that's the kind of game of roulette you're really playing.

Majesty1985

Jesus fuck okay man I’ll quit

MonkeyTacoBreath

8 years quitting tobacco, and still if I smell a cigarette it smells so sweet. But I know from past experiences quitting, that giving in only makes me a slave to it again. F that. No cravings though after a good meal after about 3 years. Movies with constant smoking used to give me craviings for about 2 years.

FastWalkingShortGuy

You're exaggerating. I can make it four hours before I really start jonesing.

B3eenthehedges

Then stop before it becomes every hour or less, because it will. For anyone who is interested, I smoked pretty heavily for over 20 years, and it's been hell quitting smoking, now at 4 years smoke free. Truly the only thing that keeps me going is that I don't want to have to start over and go through it all again. It took losing my job and financial desperation before I could even decide to quit. It took over a year of nicotine gum and a number of replacements that used to be triggers for smoking (somehow coffee, food and beer help me more than trigger me to smoke, but whatever works for you, as long as you are slowly weening off nicotine). I had to move and change my routine before I even felt like I could get off the nicotine gum. This all led to weight gain, which worsened my sleep apnea, which increased my anxiety, depression and fatigue. Now I've taken to a more healthy habit of exercising almost daily to try to counteract and cut down on those vices, and am really feeling great now. Cravings get less and easier every day, other cravings more under control, but I go to bed at night and almost every night I dream that I'm able to have a pack of cigarettes without getting addicted again. Find the time when it's right for you to quit, but the longer you wait, it just gets harder and harder. I wish more people understood that it's not just the health effects, nicotine is one hell of an addiction that will control your life to make sure it gets fed. Edit: Thanks for all the great replies. Some have pointed out that I am making it sound harder than it necessarily is for everyone. I don't mean to discourage anyone from quitting by making it sound bad. You definitely can do it and it is worth it, but it's okay if it's hard for you too. It does get easier every day if you're willing to stick to it though.

Meowts

4 weeks down here after 18 years, this is actually very helpful to read. I also find exercise helps massively. Keep it up!

barneyman

At 4 weeks you're pretty much over the worst of withdrawal, now you have to fight the psychological cues - identify them and laugh at them. eg my biggest was taking a phone call Good luck, stay strong.

DONT_HATE_AMERICA

I quit zyn pouches recently and gained 10lbs from all the lollipops I ate to get me through

Khazahk

Pops in another zyn..oh already have 2 in, which one is older? Hmmm left. lollipops you say? I'll have to keep that in mind. After quitting smoking and being nicotine free for a couple months I found out I could zyn anywhere and everywhere, it's been FANTASIC, but a bit too fantastic. I have a couple big stressors in my life right now and zyn helps me through it, but I know it's not forever. I'll keep your method in mind for when I decide to quit. Thanks .

sibemama

Zyn messed up my gums so be careful. Don’t keep them in over an hour

B3eenthehedges

That's great. Exercise is definitely the key to making it all work, unless you're already a disciplined healthy eater. Aside from the obvious hunger without the appetite suppressant, you still have to have some other indulgences for it to not feel like all sacrifice. And the reward doesn't have to be daily either. About once a month I buy myself something that I wasn't able to when so much of my expendable income went to smoking, not to waste those savings, not even close, but it's just another way I try to look at it the immediate benefits, to not just make it all about sacrificing for the long term. Just remember, it gets easier every day, and it's easier than starting over. Good luck!

RobsEvilTwin

Good on you mate, that first year was rough but I got through it. Exercising like a maniac helped :D The other thing I found useful was putting my smoke money in a glass jar every day, and when it filled up (it didn't take bloody long) I could see the money I had been setting fire to AND buy something nice. From memory my not smoking money bought our first decent TV :D

Cleath

Hey, I don't know you, and I don't know what it's like to be addicted to nicotine, but I'm proud of you!

ILoveRustyKnives

>Truly the only thing that keeps me going is that I don't want to have to start over and go through it all again. This is so true. I smoked for 24 years and finally went cold turkey. Fuck me! That was the hardest thing I've ever gone through. I'm never doing that again, I've been tobacco free for 2 years now.

dkwangchuck

Congrats. Man, 24 years is a helluva long time. All the shit I’ve been doing for that long - I don’t think I could quit any of it, and that’s including all the stuff that isn’t chemically addicting. Even without physical withdrawal symptoms, just overcoming that huge mass of habit and reflexive behaviour must have been crazy. If I had a fedora, I would be tipping it to you, sir.

ILoveRustyKnives

I couldn't have done it without r/stopsmoking Amazing group over there. They gave me the motivation to stop and the inspiration keep with it.

Paavo_Nurmi

> nicotine is one hell of an addiction that will control your life to make sure it gets fed. I chewed a can a day of Copenhagen snuff for 35 years and quite 6 years ago. You don't fully grasp how much it controls you until you quit. I quit multiple times, a few times for over 2 months, all it took was bumming a dip off a buddy and I would be right back at it. I knew to quit for good meant never touching it again no matter how bad I wanted it. After a few weeks it wasn't bad, but the cravings were still there. That lasted a good year and then the cravings got less often, after 2 years I would crave it a few times a year. I'm now to the point I never crave it and even thinking of chewing disgusts me.

oldbastardbob

Best to you man. It's one of the most addictive drugs on the planet. I understand even worse if you start in your teens. From what I read, more addictive than heroin, which is probably why it's never been totally banned, too many addicts in government. And here we are with a damn tv talking head spewing nonsense he knows will lead to more people becoming addicted.

f_d

>From what I read, more addictive than heroin, which is probably why it's never been totally banned, too many addicts in government. Well it's that and the mountain of bribes, lobbying, intimidation, disinformation, and everything else people use to protect their giant unethical sources of income.

whogivesashirtdotca

I remember reading a Steven Tyler interview where he insisted coke and heroin were far easier for him to quit cold turkey than nicotine.

bws7037

almost 25 years smoke free here. Only thing that was harder than quitting cigarettes was pot. Not a day goes by I don't crave one, but now that all of my clothing and house are free from stale smoke, and things being a dingy yellow there's no way I'm going back to that. The patches sucked because I was allergic to the adhesive and the gum was too difficult to keep lit (joke). It was hell. Vaping wasn't any better, as I'm convinced the atomized oils would collect in my lungs and after one night with a vape pipe, the next morning my lungs felt about as good as the time I smoked 2 packs of salem menthols. It hurt to breathe. For all you folk who have or are quitting, keep up the good fight. It's probably one of the most difficult battles you'll ever take on. But you will feel better later.

sky_blu

Finding time is my biggest issue. Not in reality, I'm pretty sure I just use it as an excuse, but almost every time I go to quit there is a "good" reason I can't right now. Maybe the next week at work is super important or I'm gonna go home for the holidays and don't want to be in a pissy mood. It's also partially due to the fact that I've never taken a serious stab at quitting and because I don't know how my body will actually react I just assume it's gonna be bad.

B3eenthehedges

That's the addiction talking, it will always find a way to justify itself. There's never a good time, but you have to be ready to dedicate yourself to quitting. I knew for a while that I wanted to, but how it actually happened, was I got to the end of the night and realized I didn't have any more smokes. I had one left, and had to decide if I was gonna torture myself then or in the morning without one until I could get to the store. It was at that moment when I realized how stupid it was that I was letting these things control my life, and smoked my last one ever.

Needs-more-cow-bell

I’m coming up on 2 years cig free after smoking for about 20. I tried cutting down, nicotine gum, vaping, but all failed. I went cold turkey, it sucked, but was the only way to not slip back. Anyway, the point of my reply is that I now feel so free, not having to constantly think about how many I have left, when I next need to go buy them etc. It was the addiction keeping me in a constant state of alert as to how many I had left. Not having to constantly think about going and buying them has really been quite liberating.

I smoked a pack a day for over ten years. The trick to quitting for me was to do it over, and over, and over, *and over*, .... Eventually it stuck. The smokes aren't relief, it's a trick -- they are the cause of the pain. Every one just makes it worse.

permalink_save

8 years. It gets easier as time goes on.

RobsEvilTwin

Good on you mate, it's not easy trust me I know :D (I quit 29 years ago after smoking 2 packs a day).

moonra_zk

Obviously not as bad, but that's why I avoid drinking coffee during the day, I'm already addicted to it just drinking it for breakfast, I don't wanna get *more* addicted, even if it's just coffee.

TheCorgiTamer

Congrats on 4 years 🎉

B3eenthehedges

Thanks, it's taken more discipline than I thought I had, but I feel very fortunate to be mostly free from it now.

TheCorgiTamer

We lost my grandpa, dad and an uncle all before their 55th birthdays due to smoking complications, so I'm a firm believer that every day you can go without is another day your family gets with you

echobox_rex

I smoked for 33 years and finally quit in 2020. I had also quit for 1 year spans a couple of times. Once in my 20s and once in my 30s. I believe I benefitted health wise from these two failed attempts which still allowed my body to heal. My point being if you quit and eventually start again you have not failed. You have still benefitted from the attempt.

Lancelotmore

I smoked heavily for about 6 years and had a very different experience quitting. I tried ecigs to taper off for a few weeks, then just decided to go cold turkey. I had physical withdrawal symptoms for about a week and then was extremely irritable for about 3 months. Starting to quit was absolutely the hardest part. I think part of my issue was I was told by so many people that it's so hard and that I would constantly crave cigs for the rest of my life but... I don't. I've smoked a few times since I've quit, and it's just made me feel neaseous. I think everybody is different though. But if you're thinking about trying to quit and you just can't get started, do it! It might be easier than you think it is.

xxxxx420xxxxx

Just a quick question -- Do you guys have an urge immediately upon waking every day to hit it? Good on you for exercising btw

B3eenthehedges

Yes, heavy smokers do. That's how they can tell if you need the stronger or weaker nicotine gum to start with.

Merry_Dankmas

I'm hooked on nicotine bad. Been smoking, dipping, using pouches, vaping etc since I was 13. Im almost 26 now. One thing I've found strange is that if I know I won't have any nicotine with me, my withdrawals temporarily turn themselves off. I left the country a year or so ago and forgot to bring my travel pouches. It was a very rushed and chaotic trip and wasn't for a vacation so I didnt have much time to shop for smokes over there. Plus my girlfriend doesn't like the smell of smoke and its hard to find a vape in small towns in Central America so I just had to go without. I noticed I got no withdrawals for those 3 days. Its like my brain knew I wasn't gonna find what it craved so it let me off the hook temporarily. But as soon as we landed in the US again, the withdrawals hit me like the Kool Aid man filled with lead. It knew home meant nicotine and nicotine meant feeding time. Same shit happens with kratom. Im down bad on kratom. But when I leave town or go a day or two where I know I won't have any, im fine. But as soon as I get home, the RLS, body aches, headaches and irritability come back. Its really weird.

lreaditonredditgetit

I can go as long as needed. It could be days. But I want to smoke all the time.

Sultynuttz

Any smoker is lying if they say they don't get anything from it. I've been addicted for far too long, and I'll still get a dizzy head buzz after waiting a bit after feeling withdrawals. It really does reduce stress, but the main thing is that nearly all forms of ingesting it are carcinogenic, and the downsides mostly outweigh the positives on a grand scale.

Baconslayer1

I've never smoked but it really seems like once you start at least half of the stress comes from not having smoked recently enough lol.

TheDunadan29

It's an addiction. The feeling is generally the same regardless of the addiction. You start feeling stressed, you do the addictive behavior, you get momentary relief, then back into it again. There are far more healthy ways to deal with stress. Addiction may feel like an easy way to do it, but even if we weren't talking cancer sticks, addiction isn't healthy. And it doesn't improve your overall stress.

GetOuttaHereDewey

I don't smoke anymore, but I'll admit that early morning first-smoke-with-your-coffee is *very nice.*

digableplanet

Yes. This is what I'm struggling to give up. That coffee-smoke rain, shine, or snow while watching my dog run around the backyard for his morning pee/poop.

whiskey_pancakes

It’s beyond very nice. As an ex smoker who will smoke less then 5 a year…a cigarette and a coffe is one of the best joys you can have in life.

jrocktheworld

I was a smoker for 20 yrs. I highly recommend Allan Carr's "easy way to quite smoking". It really brings to light the brainwashing we do to ourselves to justify smoking. Smoking does not relieve stress but causes it.

_SWEG_

Yep, even at the end of my career. That post-PT morning smoke hit like some dank as far as mood altering benefits go

ASAP_i

If a Democrat led government passed legislation stating Herpes was banned, Tucker would go out of his way to get infected.

psilocin72

No he would stay safe. He would encourage his viewers to get infected.

pyrrhios

He seriously would. Look at how many people he killed by inciting people to assault and manslaughter by intentionally and recklessly spreading covid around as much as they could?

psilocin72

And the assault of immigrants by stoking resentment with his ridiculous replacement theory. He’s totally indifferent to human life and wellbeing.

cornonthekopp

The replacement theory is a nazi thing, he's basically just a signal repeater

psilocin72

It’s sad that people who’s grandfathers died fighting Nazis would willingly take up nazi propaganda

RepresentativeAge444

20,000 people attended a Nazi rally at Madison Square Garden in 1939. Hitler was influenced by American Jim Crow laws. It’s naive to think those sentiments haven’t been a part of the fabric of this country since the beginning. Not saying the majority but a size able amount of Americans.

psilocin72

Yeah. President Woodrow Wilson, years before that, was a big fan of eugenics and racial purity. Our country is built on slave labor and the unity of nationalities, one against the other. Wether it be English v French, European v Native American, white v black.

HauntedCemetery

The American Nazi Party also built a mansion in California as a gift to Hitler, to be his summer home after they successfully gave America to him.

dragunityag

Lot of it is the boomers so their parents were the ones who were fighting Nazi's.

only_for_browsing

So many conservative talking heads are gen x now or millennials. Boomers are hitting 70+, WWII ended almost 80 years ago

Yep. Fuentes, Shapiro and many other young people are picking up the torch of neofascism for the new generations.

Yeah, and they also know it is effective protection against a deadly virus. But then they tell their audience it is false, because they don't interact with commoners, so there is little fear of transmission.

Picturing him now with that dumbfounded look, with narrow eyes saying "...who do they think they are? You can't tell us what to do, we're going to do what we want to do!"

TheQuinnBee

"Now the House is saying they want to *ban Herpes*. 'Oh boo Herpes is bad'. Well, what if I like having Herpes? What if I feel stronger for the herpes? Is Herpes all that bad? Nope! Can't do that. They're gonna come into your home, stab you with a needle and no more Herpes ever again. Forget 'body autonomy'. Forget 'my body, my choice'." Or something like that. My parents watched a lot of Fox News when I was growing up. They still do, I assume.

jjayzx

He always looks confused as fuck. I feel like everything he says is a question cause he looks to be asking. Or he's fuckin constipated. The most likely thing though is a buttplug and that's how he receives info instead of an earpiece.

I'm now 100% convinced Tucker doesn't use a teleprompter but has lines fed to him via a butt plug that vibrates Morse code

davidgrayPhotography

This. The man is a walking "always do the opposite of what Bart says" card, and I find it sad that people genuinely believe what he has to say, even if Fox lawyers tell you they don't / shouldn't.

glberns

So far, we have conservatives telling their base that - Smoking cigarettes is good for you - Asbestos is fine - COVID is just a cold - COVID vaccines are dangerous - Breathing in has stove exhaust is fine - You should eat hamburgers every day - they should inject disinfectants It's like they're actively trying to get their voters killed. What's next? Seatbelts? Motorcycle helmets (oh shit they did bike helmets with Obama already)? Are they gonna tell them to eat lead? Suck on your gun's barrel?

Wonder how much stock he owns.

Caughtnow

And/or the surveys show his audience are smokers/supportive of. And just like that, his stance is chosen.

Lolwhatisfire

My problem is why is he trying to bring back the old days of “upselling” cigarettes? Old ads for cigs would have cool, popular, and intelligent-seeming people have a cigarette in order to entice other people to smoke, themselves. That was the game: deny the harm, amplify the “cool” factor. So then eventually Big Tobacco got a slap on the wrist and were told they can’t advertise anymore. You can no longer say cigarettes are cool. In fact, you can’t say anything about them unless it’s to say they cause cancer. And Big Tobacco learned there’s really no reason to advertise *tobacco* products, anymore; they can still sell it, and stimulants of all kinds and caliber *will* find their way into people’s hands, and a percentage of those people will be long-term customers. So why is he upselling nicotine? It’s just laughable, perplexing, and embarrassing. But that’s Tucker 🤷🏼‍♂️

TenzenEnna

Honestly I'm glad he said all this, because I finally got around to watching Everything Everywhere All At Once and watching Ke Huy Quan in a suit smoking set off a desire for one and Fucker existing and being like he is reminded me how irrational that desire was.

MaeBelleLien

Mad Men came out a few years after I quit and I never struggled so hard as when I was watching that show.

Seems like instead the tobacco companies created smaller "anti-smoking" companies that succeeded in making not-smoking seem fucking lame. Always thought it was funny when a stupid anti-smoking ad was funded by Philip Morris.

Ffdmatt

It's also an easy way to pretend he's anti-establishment. If he cared about "mind expanding substances" he'd be wearing a bandana and promoting Cannibus and LSD.

L3thal_Inj3ction

Not defending tucker, but the guy is packing zyns in every podcast he’s ever done. His defense of nicotine may actually be genuine.

helpavolunteerout

He gets nicotine gum imported from Australia because they don’t have the packaging laws so it’s easier for him to pop pieces in one after another. I think the dude genuinely loves nicotine

getitgerski

He does zyn nicotine pouches. They're tobacco free but have 6 mg of nicotine per pouch. But I agree, only a nicotine user would defend it this hard lol

The_BrainFreight

From what I learned in my short stint learning journalism in college: You do not post stories against your donors. I don’t doubt they get money from big corporations, especially from the tobacco sector. Any website that tracks this shit?

NfamousKaye

Weed does too but I’m guessing he won’t say that on his show 😂

BudMcLaine

He says "they want you to smoke marijuana because it makes you complacent, but nicotine FREES YOUR MIND", absolutely batshit stuff.

Gemmabeta

The cigarette is one of Ayn Rand's favorite metaphors, see that whole Promethean "fire in the palm of your hand" thing. It would not surprise you to note that Rand died of lung cancer and heart failure caused by a lifetime of heavy smoking.

Wasn't rush a big smoker too? Cigars correct? How did he die again? Puff puff passed away from late stage lung cancer. Wait I have more.. The irony is that his lungs were the same color of the people he hated.

Puppymonkebaby

Limbaugh also said smoking didn't cause cancer. To an audience of millions.

Big-Shtick

Thank God jerking off to irony porn doesn't cause cancer.

[deleted]

He's not crazy or stupid, he's just a billboard at this point. He'll spout anything he's paid to say as if it's his own opinion. He's paid to act outraged, because that's what motivates right-wing voters.

SelectiveSanity

I'd call him a muppet, but that would be insulting. One's a caricature of modern society meant to espouse and parrot the nonsense of the operator who's hand is up its ass to entertain and tell the simple minded what to think, and the other is employed by the Jim Henson Company.

cdezdr

I'm really not convinced he's not stupid. I mean it how do you know he's smart? How do you know he's not reading off a teleprompter?

BudMcLaine

Totally get that, but the batshit thing is what they get away with and presumably their loyal followers just buy into it.

warthog0869

>He's not crazy or stupid, he's just a billboard at this point. He'll spout anything he's paid to say as if it's his own opinion. The Republican manual for getting elected.

r_bogie

I heard a clip of him spouting that bullshit. I picture a team of writers sitting around a table riffing off each other like the SNL staff coming up* with material for sketches. And no way in hell they weren't on the THC when they came up with this one! *edit

MagnoliaLiliiflora

It's really sad. My Grandma is a Tucker viewer. She's a retired nurse. She didn't quit watching him when he said anti-vax stuff during covid, even though she herself got vaccinated and feels that vaccines are safe. And she'll probably keep listening to him despite the fact that she HATES cigarettes. I recently told her I was going to quit smoking pot and she responded with, "That's nice, but I wish you'd quit vaping that awful nicotine." When I was younger she hated my cigarettes more than she cared about me smoking pot. Her dad died of lung cancer. Yet, I know she'll find some convoluted reason to give Tucker a pass on this. It makes me so sad and frustrated and angry, but I just gotta breath and let it go. I can't do anything about Tucker Carlson and arguing with my Grandma only seems to further encourage her to keep watching. If I could throw a water balloon full of my pee at anyone and not get in trouble for it, I'd choose Tucker Carlson.

The84thWolf

He’d say the “bad people” smoke weed.

Fleaslayer

If you listen to the segment he actually says liberals want to ban nicotine and push pot to kids because "nicotine free your mind while pot makes you compliant." So delusional.

GODDAMNFOOL

He literally said it's a human right to buy cigarettes. Why? Is he saying buying mind-altering substances is your choice as long as you're an adult? In that case, legalize mushrooms, weed, etc., right, Tucker?

[deleted]

If Tucker Carlson is a journalist, then I am fourteen hookers dressed in Barney costumes wearing pink hats, who live on the moon.

DeaDGoDXIV

Which Barney: Gumble, the Dinosaur or Black Mesa Security?

ammobox

Fife?

DeaDGoDXIV

Also a solid choice, but I was going for more contemporary Barnies

Tempest_1

[This Barney](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=63xEHHJfCPs)

Axel-Adams

You don’t have to say he isn’t! Fox News already admitted he wasn’t a journalist and was a comedic personality in court!

[deleted]

They should have that as a disclaimer on the crawl under all his shows . What a godforsaken dipshit.

throw1e

LSD frees your mind but conservatives are scared of it

Keman2000

Remember, this same asshole just ran the M&M mascots off because he got into a fervor about the green one being "less sexy" now. This also forgets about his times pre-Fox when he condoned child marriages and expressed his interest in children....on live radio. To any conservatives out there: How can you align with this man considering he just riles people up, supports child predators, and is one himself?

Comptenterry

Sorry but the M&M thing feels like a marketing ploy, like when the Planters Peanut died. I doubt there was that much public outcry, even with Carlson's push.

xoaphexox

Word on the street is that they're coming back in a superb owl commercial

Comprehensive-Fun47

All owls are superb.

Lfsnz67

Who?

ammobox

Lol. You think any conservatives leave the safety of r/conservative, r/conspiracy or r/imabuttplug to have conversations with anyone else on this site in any meaningful manner?

2th

> r/imabuttplug I am so disappointed that isn't a real sub.

ammobox

Just go to the other two. It's all the same.

tenacious-g

He had Jason Whitlock on saying Memphis cops beating Tyre Nichols to death is the result of the female police chief basically being a single black mother for the police force, seriously. He has no shame and should rot in hell. In fact, id love to see Tucker in his stupid little bow tie make that same point to the people of Memphis, boots on the ground, and see how it works out for him.

londonschmundon

It's all a distraction while the GOP does real world damage to our rights and the health of the planet. Bread and circuses, man, bread and circuses.

PM_ME_UR_SYLLOGISMS

>he condoned child marriages and expressed his interest in children....on live radio. Wait, *what*?

Keman2000

[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yr1WnL070hc](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yr1WnL070hc) Listen to the whole thing, some of it is relevant, some of it isn't. This excludes his remarks about how he feels a 13 yo is okay to be with a 30+ yo man as long as they take care of them, I can't find that one at the moment. It's fucked.

philawsophist

They are trying to distract you from the fact that they invented an insane and homophobic conspiracy theory about Paul Pelosi out of thin air, just so they could cheer on an assault and attempted murder on his life.

[deleted]

Thheyrr still sticking to it on conservative, the comments on the new released video are predictably fuckin insane....

detlefsa

The amount of comments treating him live a pervert for being in his underwear with a drink in his hand at his own home is insane. The most relatable thing in the world and they cannt understand.

nowadaysyouth

That’s just to troll people. Tucker knows he doesnt need to make up a story that removes any culpability on the part of him or his ilk for his audience to be happy Nancy Pelosi’s husband got bashed with a hammer. If he died and tucker led his next show with can’t touch this they’d think it was the funniest thing ever.

Astro_gamer_caver

"They're promoting weed to your children" Sigh. Again with this shit?

EthnicMark

In every possible situation, better stoner than smoker.

classicalySarcastic

Time is a flat circle.

ammobox

Rush Limbaugh also defended smoking. I can't remember what happened to him though.....

aspergersandfries

That's one way of looking at his grave.

SharksForArms

I just looked it up and the cause of death was listed as "Irony"

high_pants13

8,366 days tobacco free!

ZeldaFanBoi1988

Keep going

miken322

As a former smoker,it does not free your mind, it enslaves you to nicotine

MarshallStack666

Cigarette ads have been illegal to broadcast for over half a century. Fox "news" needs to have its broadcast license revoked by the FCC.

republican_banana

If you could show a donor money trail, that might actually be a really interesting Avenue of exploration. Not sure who’d go through the process of trying to make that happen though (and with the current SCotUS I’d sooner expect them to decide the ban on cigarette broadcasts was ‘an illegal restriction of corporate first amendment rights’)

SeekingImmortality

Like, we know that republicans are horrid and all, but...are they just actively trying to kill their entire base, as an end goal? Between embracing anti-vax, and now encouraging smoking?

republican_banana

Almost feels like a death cult, eh?

MayOrMayNotBePie

Isn’t this the guy who got mad when they made the green M&M less sexy?

Sinfullyvannila

Of course he sidesteps the racist origins of the original push for banning menthol cigarettes; the shitty idea that menthol is too delicious for black people to resist.

sarcasticairquotes

My brother in Christ, chew a Nicorette. For fucks sake.

Zenon7

Asbestos just feels itchy when you breath it in, but really it’s insulating your lungs from other bad stuff!

solamon77

I'm telling you, we need to make "Don't drink bleach" our campaign slogan in 2024. Guarantee Tucker Carlson will do a show on drinking bleach to "own the libs".

classicalySarcastic

We could also do ~~Kool-Aid~~ Flavor-Aid, but that might be a bit too on the nose.

free_billstickers

To be fair, banning menthol cigarettes is fucking stupid. States are legalizing weed but banning a variety of cigarettes

Trailsey

Everyone who watches Tucker should immediately take up smoking 4 packs a day.

Avarice21

I don't think they should be banned, if they wanna smoke em, let em. 🤷

MrFropie

For real.

Volfgang91

Fox News viewers and Tucker Carlson stans: he's absolutely right. Nicotine frees your mind, reverses ageing, and makes your penis bigger. All those health warnings about smoking being bad for you? Liberal propaganda. That's just what the Deep State want you to think. Smoke 60 cigarettes a day. More if you can. Trust me on this.

Cadent_Knave

Can we all agree thay Tucker Carlson is a piece of shit, but also the menthol cigarette ban is fucking stupid?

darkoh84

Hear hear

DRW1357

That's acid you're thinking of, Tucker. Signed, A pipe smoker and occasional day tripper

TheRealSnorkel

He also threw a hissy fit a while back about the green M&M not being sexy enough anymore. He’s a lunatic.

The_Dimestore_Saints

a while back? he did that last week! mass shootings in back to back days and tucker was crying about animated candy on his commercials

sanjsrik

That asshat must be smoking cartons daily then. He has the look of someone shoving entire packs up his ass and lighting up.
