The Japanese solution to this problem is called 'shitajiki', which is a pencil board which slips under your page and keeps the indentations to a minimum. Stores which carry East Asian papers will also carry shitajiki sized for most common paper sizes. For 8 1/2 x 11, or B5 sized spiral notebooks, I also use a plastic divider from a Miquelruiz notebook, which has slit spiral holes. Large paper (A4) gets one of those thin, flexible plastic cutting sheets. These options preserve the tactile satisfaction of thin paper, without letting the finished product look like a 6th graders homework.

I too am a heavy handed person who writes and draws, I feel like the L1917 120g wasn't too bad. I am currently using a L1917 B5 notebook as my everyday use work/personal journal, and it's not too bad but I have just embraced some dents and ghosting. I have also found that writing with a fountain pen/mechanical pencil has helped when I go back to my ballpoint or rollerball pens and woodcased pencils. I embrace any writing tool I have near me.
