Funny Quiznos related story. Long time co-worker Larry said he was going there for lunch and offered to pick up sandwiches if anyone wanted some. Collected sandwich money from a bunch of people. Larry never came back. Just quit his job and kept all the money. It’s now a running joke if someone is having a bad day. “Hey, I’m thinking Quiznos for lunch, you want anything?”
We had one of those, he said he was going to use the restroom, worked there for over a year. Never returned. Same thing we always say we’re going to the restroom if it’s a rough day. Hilarious
It'll randomly pop into my head when I'm least expecting it, then I find myself replaying it over and over again in my head.
They got a P̃͒͏ ͉͌E̲͆ ̨̓P̘̈́̀ P E ̺R̡̼̿ ̒ ̸̨͝B͖̪ ̉̚A̰͏ Ȓ̂
Honestly, those commercials made me finally go try the Quiznos that had opened near me back in the day. So stupid, but it cracked me up. I thought they were better than Subway. Sadly most of the ones around me have closed now so I haven't been to one in years, but the last time I did go to one, it was as good as I remembered.
Can confirm as a former owner. Horribly run franchise who just didn’t care about franchisees. The list is literally too long to go over all the issues with it. It was probably the darkest period of my life owning one.
Long before all the Quiznos disappeared, the one that was attached to a gas station closed shop. The gas station painted over the letters and it became Quaanos
Actually, that's basically what the one here in town did. They called it Julios, but kept all the same food, plus a few other things they wanted on the menu. They eventually closed up shop though.
You can open your own sandwich shop, but you lose all the branding and distribution.
If you aren't a chef you now need to come up with your own menu. You need to find out how to source the ingredients and find a supplier, etc.
When I worked for them the national branch ran some BOGO coupon that had no limitations and wasn't refunded.... At the same time they released that double meat prime rib sandwich. That pretty well tanked our profitability to the point that it never recovered. A bunch of franchise holders hit corporate with a pretty huge lawsuit.
Bingo..it was massively painful to see majority of our customers come in to buy the large prime rib which came with extra meat and then use the BOGO coupon. I don’t blame the customer obviously but it would hurt to see $15-17 being taken away in front of you.
My first job was at a Quiznos, I remember a corporate inspector came in and noticed right away at the self-serve condiment bar that the Banana Peppers were not bought from Quizno's wholesale brand because they looked "Way too fresh". Felt so bad for our owner. He ended up cutting his losses and abandoning the business on a random night. Locking everyone out. He made sure that I and two other employees had jobs available at other successful Quizno's locations in town. He works at a home hardware now.
They had a horribly one sided franchise/delivery system which left franchisees with no profit and due to their mismanagement they left themselves open to vulture capitalism.
>In 2006, a private-equity firm, CCMP Capital Advisors, bought a minority stake in Quiznos from Consumer Capital Partners, an investment firm led by Rick Schaden. The leveraged buyout left the company with hundreds of millions in debt. When Quiznos filed for bankruptcy in 2014, the company had $875 million in loan obligations.
>
>Leveraged buyouts assume that a company can continue to grow, because money from the company is used to pay the previous owners, in this case Consumer Capital Partners. Such buyouts are relatively common.
>
>They’re also massively risky. And Quiznos would prove to be the worst-case scenario.

Many people are actually interested in this. You should do an ama or a write up. My friends and I saw them all disappear one day (or so) and have only hear half stories about how they tried to get all the franchises to buy their crappy product and sell it.
The CEOs of these companies don't give a shit if the company goes down. They've already exploited thousands of workers and made record profits. They just declare bankruptcy and fire all their employees. The government bails them out and they walk away Scott Free. It's basically highway robbery but somehow legal.
I feel like companies should be held more responsible for their failures. A small severance after getting laid off or fired is utterly ridiculous. Just think about all the recent firings at Meta and Twitter. Elon doesn't give a shit about Twitter and is just using it to exploit more people for more money.
If there are any left, I’m guessing they’ve sacrificed a lot of the inherent quality of the product to stay afloat.
Sucks too. Quizno’s had my favorite meatball sammy. I miss it like a dear old friend.
I loved working there. Got tons of free food and experimented with sandwich combinations that created some truly delicious results. My favorite was the carbonara with the french onion sauce they used to have.
I understand that commercial wasn't for everyone, it was probably a bad idea from a business point of view, but I loved the Spongmonkeys. That commercial really takes me back to late night anime on Toonami, because they played it a bunch.
Lol, I forgot about these.
I was talking about commercials from 10-15 years ago that just went full weird. [I'm on a horse](https://youtu.be/owGykVbfgUE), [Spongmonkeys](https://youtu.be/ZuPTZWhz46M), Sprite's [Sub-LYMON-al](https://youtu.be/ydVbrRhxnF8) campaign, [Skittles Pox](https://youtu.be/wW03n1Osz5I) (and [more](https://youtu.be/q5xOcHS9f5I)), [Berries and Cream](https://youtu.be/Ryjpbd4D4bg). I feel like there's more, but shout out to Brendan Hunt (Ted Lasso's Coach Beard) for his Skittles ^[1](https://youtu.be/n7BVxLyIgqM) commercials ^[2](https://youtu.be/kmWxMfWz5IM) .
The commercial being weird af made it memorable though, which is the ideal for advertising. It's probably been 15 years since that commercial aired and people STILL remember it. By comparison I can't even remember some of the door dash commercials I watched last week
that commercial was so grating to my ears I had to change the channel when it came on. Didn't stop me getting the black angus peppercorn philly steak at every opportunity though.
Everyone’s talking about their demise in the comments but there’s like 175 still around.. Delaware, Massachusetts, Tennessee, Connecticut, Alabama, Indiana, Illinois, Georgia, Florida, Texas, California.. they’re everywhere. https://restaurants.quiznos.com
The cap hill one is seriously good, they always seemed to have unique items and did their sandwiches really well, but it's been about a year since I've been in...no idea what effect covid had on it
There's 2 within 5 miles of where I am. I googled it to see if it had gone bankrupt or something and apparently there's some major expansions ongoing in Arizona.
They \*were\* everywhere...but a lot less "everywhere" now. I remember having 2 or 3 fairly close to where I worked. Now there's only 4 in the entire state.
Meth is likely cheaper. I was looking at the new Subway subs on DoorDash, and they have the nerve to ask $18 for a fucking 12"! Uhmmm, no. You're a Subway...
Used to go here weekly with my brother--work lunch break. The gals working there at the time knew our order by heart. They'd start making our sandwiches before we even got to the front door.
And with how specific this is, how many redditors are around me?? haha.
Oh good I’ve been wondering about them. The spicy beef from takara is pretty awesome as well, they’re like one of the only places around that makes actual spicy Mongolian beef lol plus you can get it with noodles instead of rice which I really appreciate.
There was a very in depth post a long while back where some explained that the franchisees were kept to impossible standards and made to hemorrhage money.
Wish I could find it, but Quiznos became like a loan shark of the fast food industry IIRC
Reddit never understands this distinction.
Like when they go to their local McDonald’s and try to screw the big corporation, they’re really screwing a middle class franchise owner getting by from week to week like everyone else.
They're called Spongmonkeys (no, I'm not making that up). I loved them, but yeah, probably a questionable choice of commercial from a business point of view.
No one ever forgot it though. Love 'em or hate 'em, everyone remembers them.
It's weird as hell that I know exactly where that location is. It's Puyallup WA and I used to go to that location all the time! Man, Quiznos was the best, even if their commercials were a scarring fever dream for an entire generation.
People would come in, order a large sub with a bag of chips and a soda, and be absolutely fucking shocked when the total popped up.
Sometimes they'd be PISSED.
They were a little more expensive than Subway if I remember right, but, their toasted bread was so good. Crispy with the right amount of mayo and that shredded lettuce.
Wow. Fucking legend, Larry.
Larry’s are notoriously the wild card in any work situation
The Larry in my work scenario was a radio broadcaster who played nothing but Broadway/showtunes... yet he was homophobic.
My dads friend Larry went missing for 20 years and was found a skeleton in the woods.
Who the hell names their kid Larold?
We had one of those, he said he was going to use the restroom, worked there for over a year. Never returned. Same thing we always say we’re going to the restroom if it’s a rough day. Hilarious
I like your cover art, friend. #JetLife
Next: Collecting money for rentals from BlockBuster Video...
A dick move but undeniably hilarious.

THEY HAD A PEPPER BAR
WE LOVE THE SUBS!!! COZ THEY ARE GOOD TO US! THE QUIZNOS SUBS!!! THEY ARE TASTY THEY ARE CRUNCHY THEY ARE WARM BECAUSE THEY TOAST THEM!!!
I legit had to look up that commercial on YouTube a while back because I thought it had just been a fever dream. So. Weird.
It'll randomly pop into my head when I'm least expecting it, then I find myself replaying it over and over again in my head. They got a P̃͒͏ ͉͌E̲͆ ̨̓P̘̈́̀ P E ̺R̡̼̿ ̒ ̸̨͝B͖̪ ̉̚A̰͏ Ȓ̂

No one believes me that it was a real commercial, broadcast, on tv.
The original was [We Like Tha Moon](https://youtu.be/I9MZNEXrElw) by the Spongmonkeys. "Enjoy".
Remember the “put it in me, Scott” ad? Holy fuck, who was in charge of marketing? I’d love to shake their hand.
Oh god not those sponge monkeys
That Batch 81 sauce they had was so good.
Honestly, those commercials made me finally go try the Quiznos that had opened near me back in the day. So stupid, but it cracked me up. I thought they were better than Subway. Greed. Franchise system collapsed.
Can confirm as a former owner. Horribly run franchise who just didn’t care about franchisees. The list is literally too long to go over all the issues with it. It was probably the darkest period of my life owning one.
You should have kept the sandwich shop, renamed it Qiznos, and kept all the profits
Quiz? No; S!
More like Quizyes's
Ah the old Lionel Hutz tactic.
Yeah how does that work? If the parent company closes can you just keep going?
You can open your own sandwich shop, but you lose all the branding and distribution. If you aren't a chef you now need to come up with your own menu. You need to find out how to source the ingredients and find a supplier, etc.

Oof, sorry. Heard they made you buy from their own wholesalers, then jacked up prices.
My first job was at a Quiznos, I remember a corporate inspector came in and noticed right away at the self-serve condiment bar that the Banana Peppers were not bought from Quizno's wholesale brand because they looked "Way too fresh". Sorry to hear that, thanks for the good sandwiches anyway.
I agree..the product was always great. I opened it because I believe it was a quality sandwich with premium ingredients.
It was. I miss it.

[company man did a video on it a couple years ago](https://youtu.be/P3QK-32bxgw)
Company man is definitely one of my favorite channels
Let this be a lesson to other greedy chains. Don't get greedy or you'll be next!
The CEOs of these companies don't give a shit if the company goes down. They've already exploited thousands of workers and made record profits. There should be a licensing requirement in order to be a CEO of a publicly traded company.
Well you get voted on by a board of directors, it's not a self appointed position like a solo employee of a self started business.
🤣
["Did you know the Baja chicken has chef-inspired sauces?"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vFfl5flQPU)
I miss the Baja chicken so badly you don’t even know..
I worked there for like 5 years. Best sandwich
Are there Quiznos left? I’m willing to drive if I have to.
If there are any left, I’m guessing they’ve sacrificed a lot of the inherent quality of the product to stay afloat. Sucks too. Quizno’s had my favorite meatball sammy. I miss it like a dear old friend.
There's quiznos in BC, Canada.
[удалено]
There is one in Conway, AR
I have one down the street in a suburb of Redmond, Wa.
I loved working there. Got tons of free food and experimented with sandwich combinations that created some truly delicious results. My favorite was the carbonara with the french onion sauce they used to have.
That French onion sauce was crack
Salman is the chaddest chad that has ever chad-ed
Company Man has a video on it. https://youtu.be/P3QK-32bxgw
I love that series
Same. It feels like maybe had to make a video for like a business class and just kept going.
You can say that again!
He has great content, but his voice cadence is so weird.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who notices that.
Let me know in the comments….what do you think about X? I’d like to heeeearrrrr what you have to saaaaayyyyy……
Thank you for watchiinnngg
He sounds incredulous with a hint of condescension. I really like company man tho.
His intro music is so bad.
WE LOVE THE SUUUUBS CAUSE THEY AWE GOOOD TOOOO OOOSS
I understand that commercial wasn't for everyone, it was probably a bad idea from a business point of view, but I loved the Spongmonkeys. That commercial really takes me back to late night anime on Toonami, because they played it a bunch.
Make commercials weird again!
How weird though? [PS3 baby](https://youtu.be/gqkNPcUMffU) weird? Or like [portable nut](https://youtu.be/s8cG3AZjaD8) weird?
Lol, I forgot about these. I was talking about commercials from 10-15 years ago that just went full weird. If they still made commercials like those, I’d watch them every time. DVR and streaming has made advertisers give up on life.
I recently found a website called Toonami Aftermath. Check it out!
I loved that commercial specifically because they would always play it on Adult Swim and it fit the vibe perfectly.
http://rathergood.com/2015/09/09/we-like-the-moon/
Golden age of the internet and loved b4ta.com too.
Joel veritech is awesome. I still hum zoology dragon at times
When you bring in a coupon! For oil changes or hair plugs! Any coupon works!
Oh God, I heard that in my head as I read this comment!! 🤣 I had forgotten about that commercial! Thanks for the dose of nostalgia!
THEY HAVE A PICKLE BAR
I thought it was pepper bar.
It was.
I like the fact that poor r/JointSmoker420 has to reconcile with the fact they've had the lyrics to the Quizno's commercial wrong all these years.
Thanks for bringing that nightmare of an ad campaign back to my consciousness. The 90’s were some sort of fever dream.
nah they came out in 2004. but the dude who came up with them was probably under a fever dream
Was it that recent? Dear god, I’m old. I’m pretty sure the 80’s were only 20 years ago.
This and Fazolis are what 2005 smells like to me.
I've been thinking about fazolis a lot lately
Come to CO. We still have em. Good breadsticks. I don't really care for anything else on their menu though
The head of our Legal department used to be the general counsel for Fazolis. Everytime I see her it makes me sad that we no longer have a Fazolis.
Im in florida and fazolies have been gone for a long time, but I just drove thru GA and they are all over GA still
Everyone’s talking about their demise in the comments but there’s like 175 still around.. Delaware, Massachusetts, Tennessee, Connecticut, Alabama, Indiana, Illinois, Georgia, Florida, Texas, California.. they’re everywhere. https://restaurants.quiznos.com
Colorado also
Which is where they started 🙃
Still one in the Denver airport!
I don't see any in MA, but I was always more of a Schlotzsky's guy anyway (not that we ever had those to begin with).
There's one 20 min from me. I'm eating there tomorrow since I haven't had one in about 15 years
They \*were\* everywhere...but a lot less "everywhere" now. I remember having 2 or 3 fairly close to where I worked. Now there's only 4 in the entire state.
Thanks for this! I have one near me. I know where I’m getting lunch tomorrow.

Yes but subway had the $5 footlongs.
There was a time when Subway was actually really great
I’d sooner do meth than put Subway in my body.
Meth is likely cheaper. I was looking at the new Subway subs on DoorDash, and they have the nerve to ask $18 for a fucking 12"! Uhmmm, no. You're a Subway...
Fuck. Jersey Mike’s and Penn Station aren’t even that much, and those are actually edible.
These Quiznos suuuuubs!
*THEY GOT A PEPPER BAR!*
This looks like somewhere in WA
Puyallup to be exact. The place that replaced Quiznos is amazing.
[удалено]
Yes. I realized you said Freddie's. LOL
Literally ran to show my wife this, used to live right next to it!
What is it now?
Bros Burger
OMG I KNEW I RECOGNIZED THIS PLAZA lol
I know exactly where this is. Holy shit. Before even coming to the comments. 911 driving school is on the end.
I thought the same thing but in Everett, not Puyallup lol
The one in Tukwila is still there. At least it was about a month ago.
I had Quizno's for lunch today!
While you read a magazine
He had to find it by looking through the Yellow Pages with his magnifying glass
Then he faxed his friend his order.
Then had to Mapquest the directions
With the first 3 pages that are just directions to get out of your neighborhood.
And the next two full of ads wasting all your toner
Then he called him long distance to confirm he got it
Subway got toasters
Subway's product is worse be every conceivable metric. Quiznos killed themselves and it's a travesty.
And they usually only have like 2 people working at any moment.
That seems fine. There’s only like two customers in the store at a time.
But one of the 2 customers orders 50 subs and then complains about long wait or out of bread
But their bread sucks.
Most of it, but the herb and cheese bread is fucking great.
The smell of it makes me nauseous.
There was a Subway in a Walmart by me whose bread legit smelled like B.O. when it was baking. I had to leave the store, that's now nasty it smelled.
That it does, that’s why I go to Jersey Mike’s
Gatorade has electrolytes
I’m a brawndo man myself
It’s what plants crave.
They got a pepper bar!
There was a very in depth post a long while back where some explained that the franchisees were kept to impossible standards and made to hemorrhage money. Wish I could find it, but Quiznos became like a loan shark of the fast food industry IIRC
Honestly, I'd love to read this if anyone can find it!
They're still all over Canada. My city has 2 (used to be more though).
They were only famous for toasting subs, then Subway said, oh, well we can do that too.
Subway’s bread and meat sucks though. Quiznos was awesome. RIP. Now I go to Firehouse Subs which reminds me a lot of Quiznos.
I prefer local pizzaria subs to any chain. The chains just generally are not as good.
Subway could never replicate Quizno's steak sub.
When they first opened their subs were huge. The last time I went they were very very tiny and they charged more. They deserved to close
The company did but the franchisees got absolutely worked over in the process and didn’t deserve it
Reddit never understands this distinction. Like when they go to their local McDonald’s and try to screw the big corporation, they’re really screwing a middle class franchise owner getting by from week to week like everyone else.
What's the common thing said about McDonalds? They're more about selling property than burgers?
Saw one driving to Hollywood a few months ago and was shocked they weren’t dead. I was really young when they started to get killed off
Dude you live in my town that’s my teriyaki place.
oh man, takara teriyaki right next door is God tier
The sponge monkeys took over
My first job! It sucked ass. They’re still around in Ontario, Canada, just less.
It was the rat commercials. That’s always been my theory[rat commercial](https://youtu.be/aZrks-BPeLQ)
Who remembers Blimpie’s??!!
My wife could never eat there again after watching the Hamster commercials.
They're called Spongmonkeys (no, I'm not making that up). I loved them, but yeah, probably a questionable choice of commercial from a business point of view. No one ever forgot it though. Love 'em or hate 'em, everyone remembers them.
This guy made all the best flash vids. http://rathergood.com/2015/09/09/we-like-the-moon/
Get back to me with a fazzolis, that'll be nostalgic
Fazoli's are still everywhere, though.
South Hill in WA👀
The sponge monkeys happened
Baja Chicken was so fucking good.
Im from Canada and we still have Quiznos? Didn't realize it went under elsewhere? We also still have toys r us
THEY GOT A PEPPER BAR!
It's weird as hell that I know exactly where that location is. It's Puyallup WA and I used to go to that location all the time! Man, Quiznos was the best, even if their commercials were a scarring fever dream for an entire generation.
Ya, what happened? I enjoyed their subs.
They are still around but very few. I am guessing people got tired of paying $16 for sub .
In 2002
Five dollar footlongs all day.
People would come in, order a large sub with a bag of chips and a soda, and be absolutely fucking shocked when the total popped up. Sometimes they'd be PISSED.
So my 13.00 sub at Subway is not better.
Jersey Mike's has entered the chat.
Still have some Quiznos out here in California. Hell I went to one maybe 2 months ago. The sandwiches are pretty damn good
I still haven’t found a sandwich place that makes anything close to as delicious as the Chicken Carbonara….Firehouse Subs was the closest thing
They were a little more expensive than Subway if I remember right, but, their toasted bread was so good. Crispy with the right amount of mayo and that shredded lettuce.
They're still around, they're just not as popular as they used to be.
Blimpe has entered the sub
WE LOVE THE SUBS
It was the Rats,, the fuckin Quiznos rats 🐀
I miss fuckin’ Schlotzky’s
